I am 48, peri-menopause and boo - what I used to do to lose weight does not seem to be working and I am struggling just to maintain. My co-worker is trying this and seems to be doing well on it. I am getting ready to start and hope to view it as a science experiment on myslef vs a "diet".

For years I have struggled with my weight as a healthy eater. Salmon, asparagus, cauliflower puree's all have made appearances on my menus. Wheat has always been a problem for me, but I thought other grains were "healthier". When I read TP it immediately made sense to me. My children have struggled with food sensitivities and now I understand I do too. The Plan gives me the tools to figure out what foods work for me and which don't. I think inflammation is the root of all illnesses and I think TP will help me combat that. Plus the recipes are delish. Love my kale.

My husband and I started TP because it just makes sense- everything I've been reading on health in the last 1-1/2 years has pointed to inflammation as the reason for disease and weight gain. He is diabetic and lost 100 lbs on a local weight loss plan but once he went off the expensive supplements ($400 a month), he gained it all back. I've always thought that health is about the individual and not a blanket approach like Western medicine treats all people the same. We both need to lose 100+ lbs and feel that this is the way it's finally going to happen!

Ok, I am here for many reasons. I have struggled for years with my wt after I had my second child in 1997 but always managed to look and feel ok, but my young son was diagnosed with cancer 5 yrs ago and his subsequent death, I have gone over the '200' mark where I usually never went. So in these last 5 years I have become tired, weak, brain fog, sever plantar fasciitis, damaged my knee soft tissue and it just won't heal...feel achy, headaches...all of this while being a lover of 'whole' foods and gardening and juicing. My husband is pretty good shape but is overweight now, my grown son has IBS but I can't help him until he is ready, my other son still at home has very bad acne and IBS, my only dtr and last child was just diagnosed with Thyroiditis and it turned into Hypothyroidism. I want to see if there is something we can avoid so her body won't attack itself. So I am doing what I can to include the kids. Started them on Day 4 but am more relaxed due them being kids and I am overwhelmed. Glad my hubs bugged out after the first day! My precious brave boy in Heaven is 100% behind me, he loved me to be healthy and always encouraged me, he is my inspiration!!1

I am hoping to keep encouragement going with other TP's and get some inside tips with some of the discrepancies that come up etc...

I'm here because I'm at an age and autoimmune status that is leaving me gaining on 1500 cal/day. It's got to be more than calories in calories out. Sister in law did this with great success and now they maintain by doing this some of the time and by eating more regularly some of the time. They have a healthy a balance with mostly healthy foods. Sounds like it is worth a 20 day trial. I'm on day 7 now, lost 6 lbs and have had no reactive foods yet.

Now I'm on day 15 and still only six pounds lost. Lots of gaining even on friendly days. Still feel good doing it and my BP has never been lower. So for now, I'm going to keep at it. I am a healthy weight (although high end of healthy). My goal is to lost about 10 more lbs.

Nothing else was working. I was convinced that what I was eating just didn't suit me. When I read Mandi's blogs, I knew I had to investigate further. And then Maggie had great success too!

What did I have to lose?

OK, 10 lbs. emoticon

I'm sick of feeling sick. Health issues, weight-related health issues, the mirror. Chose one or all! (lol) I guess when the scale went to and then PASSED the 200 lb number, I faced up to the fact that my arthritis pain HAD to be exacerbated by caring around the extra poundage, not to mention GERD. I'm not even sure that weight-loss is as important to me as getting rid of the extreme inflammation levels that keep showing up in my blood work.

I've tried other "diets"--once I stopped eating that way, the weight came back. None of them every helped with the other issues. Since reading this book, I bought a basal thermometer and found that over a 20 day period, my average temp is only 95.29°--so looks like there is some thyroid issues going on too.

Wishing everybody success on the road to better health!! emoticon

I am here because on other eating plans I would lose the initial 5 - 7 pounds but it meant eliminating everything except protein, veg, nuts and seeds, and after 3 weeks I would be going stir crazy! It is hard to maintain that!

Anyway my friend on SP did it and she is exactly the same height as me and we have the same body type and goal weight. While she lost 17 pounds on "The Plan" I yo-yo'd around the same 5 pounds doing it my way!

Clearly her way was working better than mine, so I switched. I am on day 4 and have lost 3 pounds so far. My fear is that I will lose the 5- 7 pounds and stop there!
Let's hope The Plan works for me and I can lose the 20 pounds I put on in the last 3 years!

I hope you will all help in cheering me on and giving me advice! I need it!
Thanks

Why am I here?

My naturopath told me to! LOL!

She is concerned that I'm not losing weight, nor feeling better, even though I'm not eating much, and I'm avoiding (for the most part anyway) wheat, dairy and corn.

Since I've been on the plan (only one week), a lot of my reactions to food have ceased, even though I've so far tested reactive to almonds (unroasted) and egg whites (sigh. I love eggs)

I can't wait to see what else is causing problems so that I can get my life back.

I started this after a friend told me about it. I just finished my masters degree and studied heath and nutrition courses, some of which I thought were outdated for the most part- calories in vs calories out, fat is bad, etc. I've always thought the way of TP, that certain foods cause issues, I just didn't know how to figure out which ones. I tried gluten free and no eggs but had no changes. Like ECHO, I also could gain a ton of weight over night and then just drop it right back off within a day or two of clean eating but never get below that point. So far on day 7 I am at that low point so any loss from here is an actual loss for me.

I am excited to start this to stop the yoyo of weight gain! I can't lose effectively and sometimes I will gain 6 ponds overnight, once I gained ten pounds in a 24 hour time span. That is def not calories in calories out! I want to be healthy and enjoy my foods and not freak out about bloating. My problems decreased incredibly when I stopped eating wheat but I still have some issues, hoping to figure those out!

Perseverance until healthy!!!!!

I decided to start TP because I had been searching for some type of anti-inflamatory diet plan. I have rhuematoid arthritis and sjogren's syndrome and heard I could reduce symptoms if I tried this type of diet. When I first started reading the book, I realized that the people who have had success sounded just like me. It explained my gaining 10lbs in a week and looking 6 months pregnant when I eat a very healthy diet. I have always thought that maybe I had issues with inflamation, I always felt puffy and my head was foggy.
As I mentioned in my intro post. I am so glad that I have stuck with TP, looking forward to finding out what my reactive foods really are. :-)

I read Lyn-Genet's book because I've finally decided to take my health into my own hands!! I'm overweight with BP that ranges between 150 to 135/80. My doctor never mentions my weight or my BP when I go for checkups or flu meds. Asthma is a problem a couple of times a year. Take my meds when I need them, but I want the asthma to be gone permanently. Same thing with inflammation, bloating and a small patch of excema I have on the joint of a couple of fingers. And, let's not forget "brain fog" or ADD. Doctor has a pill or cream for every problem I have but never mentioned that I could control all the above with my diet!! I know, I'm not terribly unhealthy, but I'm at the point of "So, so, just isn't good enough anymore!" Thus I'm on The Plan!

I was told several years ago that my inflammation (measured by a test called CRP, I think) was high. I went to a Rheumetologist and he told me that black people had higher inflammation than whites. Sounded fishy to me, but I couldn't prove otherwise. I just knew I tried EVERYTHING and couldn't lose weight or get my blood sugar under control.

I read about Lyn-Genet in MORE magazine and was interested, so when I saw the book, I purchased it and decided to follow the plan.
On my first try, my weight yo-yo'd up and down. Now on the second try, using probiotics and taking milk thistle instead of drinking dandelion tea, it is moving steadily downward. I reacted one day on the detox, but not sure if its the almonds or chickpeas, so I will test again.
Glad I am doing it.

Michele

Michele: I figure it is healthy daily food and I already know even without starting TP that wheat gives me inflammation so I figure it can't hurt to try and see if anything else does. Glad to hear you have less pain already!

I chose the plan because I am tired of doing everything right and getting the same results as when I do everything wrong. I have been asking doctors for years to help and been told I'm just not trying hard enough and give up too easy.

Another reason is that I know I have had full-body inflammation for most of my life. When someone hugs me it hurts a little. Gently grabbing my arm is a little painful. Therapeutic massage is agony. I feel low-grade pain all the time that is turning into full blown pain in my left knee and lower back.

After doing the 3 day cleanse I already feel signicantly less pain. I'm very hopeful for this experiment to be the answer I have been searching for.

Michele

Actually I started reading the book out of curiosity from someone I know that mentioned it. After reading it, it makes complete sense to me as I've know since Jr. High (or maybe earlier) that I have a problem with too much tomato sauce (as in lasagna one day and leftovers the next) and about a year age I figured out I have a problem with wheat. Thinking it will also be good for my husband as he is trying to get his cholesterol under control without meds and normal healthy diet and exercise aren't enough.
