I grew up around Frankfurt. The easiest to loose weight in Germany walk, most people do and buy a bike. There are so many bike trails and the weather is getting nice and most Germans will go walking or biking in the evening. Also in the summer it is almost light until 10-11 pm and you can do a lot outdoors. Also you can go swimming because almost every town has a indoor and outdoor pool or join the rowing club. They row on the Main river you meet people and it is a great work out. I always go to the farmer market and buy fresh. Hope this helps Jutta

Thank you for your help ladies!
I try to buy a ham or roasted chicken breast deli meat at the butcher's stand in the market. I must admit, that german supermarkets do have a great variety of food.
When it comes to the bread I'd like to pick u something whole grain, yet not too caloric.
Michael eats in a totally different way than I do (or used to) and he's not familiar with the products I#d like to purchase.
Vielen dank!

I can only agree, those breads are very tasty and healthy! I really miss them! I tried to buy it here, but couldn't find it anywhere! emoticon
I think you can also buy deli meats from 'Weight Watchers'! Sometimes they are good! But read the ingredients!! And in general I would say, that it is much better to eat deli meat from chicken or turkey, than from pork!
Before I went to America I always bought products from 'HERTA'! My favorite was 'Herta Finesse Putenbrust mit Honig' (Turkey breast with honey)
One slice has about 5 calories and less than 1 gram fat.
You can check out this side for more of their nutrition information:

I'm sure your future-husband will help you and translate what you don't understand!!

My first little goal is to go down on 90kg!
The next little goal would be 80kg!
After that I will go down on 70kg!
If I still have enough faith I will go then down on 60kg, which is my final goal!!
And when I reached that, I hopefully will be able to attend at the Cologne-Marathon (the third biggest in Germany)! That is my dream!!

Anything that's called "Landbrot" or "Bauernbrot", "Vollkornbrot" is very healthy. It is more dense and therefore a little higher in calories than the bread you're used to in the US.
If you need the calorie count for a certain product you've seen, try going to fddb.info/ and see if you can find it there.
Otherwise, organic foods are so much cheaper in Germany than in the US, I would always try to buy organic.

German Bread.... I miss you...
Oh the choices...
From a diet point, the darker and more grains, the better. From a health point, I would buy as close to a real baker as possible....

Christina (missing German bread in Arkansas, surviving on fake Italian right now)

Hi, yes, I believe, that I bought their mushroom - sauce - thing (creme fresh?)
Actually, I don't like to buy all the skimmed products, because it doesn't always mean that they are better (there are some exceptions)
I would appreciate any hints when it comes to buying bread, whole grains ,and etc (for example "cream of wheat" or granola)Same for lean deli meats.
Are you planning to visit Germany anytime soon?

Hi Karina,

I am a German in the US but I still can help you with any diet questions over there.
If you're looking for low fat stuff, see if you can find "DU DARFST" - they make margarine and lunchmeat. It's healthier than the rest of the stuff!

I moved to Germany (from Canada)about 7 months ago.I currently reside near Frankfurt am Main area.
I would love to connect with some english speaking SP members that live in Germany (to exchange diet tips and so on)Although my German is improving every day I'm still "butchering" it and it would be easier for me to communicate in English.
I will eventually try to write my posts in "Goethe's language" (Im hoping for your understanding)
Looking forward to stay in touch with this group!
