Hello to all! My name is Janine and I have been serious about Spark for 14 months now. I loved the introduction to this team and the team name. My heart is to be a steadfast woman of God. God's Word and His Spirit in me are what sustains me every day. I wake up every morning knowing I need to be in the company of my Savior and have a cup of coffee! Life is good and sweet and full of peace and joy not because of outward conditions, but because of knowing that Jesus loves me. HE created me and has a plan to prosper me. HE is my strength, self control, and wisdom for every mountain that I face. I am thrilled to connect with fellow Sparkers who are also fellow daughters (and sons) of the King of kings! Have a fabulous Friday and a super weekend too! emoticon

Thank you for the warm welcome! I'm usually good for diet changes for 24 weeks. It's my hope to stick with this and take care of myself. It's great to have support from fellow believers. All the best to you all on your journey too!

Hi Everyone. I am just getting started officially tomorrow. I had a friend tell me about this site when I was doing this before but using the Biggest Looser website and books. I love it so far. It has all the same features and more. I look forward to meeting you all and going through this together. I look at it this way I gained some back when I quit for a while. It is better this time because I am about 20 lbs lighter than when I began the first time.

I just realized I never did an introduction!! My name is Brandi and I will be 40 years old this month. I'm struggling a lot with turning 40 and I'm not sure why. I'm married to Aaron for 13 years now. We have a 5 year old daughter who has Down syndrome. Aaron is a teacher and I am a social worker for the state. I work with children who have special healthcare needs. I absolutely love it. I've been there for a year now. Prior to that I worked for CPS for 12 years.

I have so much weight to lose and so many health problems. But I work hard to take good care of myself. I am scared of what will happen to my daughter once my husband and I are gone. We don't have a lot of family around to take care of her. We are about to move her into Kindergarten and are afraid we will have a battle on our hands to have her mainstreamed. We are also looking for a new therapy place for her as the place she had been going to for 4 years have washed their hands of her. It's been a rough week for us. emoticon

I tend to be very lazy and make lots of excused as to why I don't need to exercise. I've got the eating well part down and do that about 99% of the time! The last several months I've been experiencing a distorted taste/smell problem and the doctor does not know why, so that's annoying, but I'm still eating well. My diabetes is doing much better. Thank you Darlene for your comment on one of my blogs and for reminding me of this team! I don't think I've set it up to get get notifications so I need to change that!!!

Hi, I am Lee from Michigan. I joined the team when it was new but have not been around to introduce myself yet. I am 66, married almost 47 years. Sadly I have not been able to have children due to endometriosis. I too am a retired RN having worked with infants, cardiology, and mostly administration. We have a miniature Australian Shepherd named Maggie who is the sweetest dog anyone could have (see my page for pictures). I retired in 2005 and since then have been doing eldercare, first with my in-laws, then my dad and now my mom. My mom is the only one left, she is 88 and I just got her moved into independent living. I spend a lot of time with her - she has some mobility and back pain issues, but mentally she is better than I am...LOL. My DH has Myasthenia Gravis but is doing well with it. I am thankful to be healthy with a few aging aches and pains. I can share more later...that's enough for now. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know each of you. Please visit my page and friend me as you have time. We are off to a birthday dinner for my SIL today!!

Hi Tracy - welcome. It is a wonderful feeling to express your feelings with others who share difficult times. We all need to carry our cross throughout our lives and with God's love, we can do it. My ailments are chronic and rear their ugly heads from time to time and it is at those times that I tell God I accept this burden and pray that it will feel better soon. And it does. My family sees what I suffer with and try to be compassionate but I'm sure it's a drag for them - bless their hearts, they do try to help. My DH suffers with back problems from time to time and I know how painful that can be. I'll keep you in my prayers.

They just make the most of everything they have.

Tracy, Welcome, welcome! We are so glad to have you with us. What a blessing you are already because you have shared with us an intimate part of yourself and giving us an opportunity to serve you with understanding and prayer. Bearing one anothers burdens is such a wonderful way to grow to be more Christ like, something we as Christians really desire. I know already with your upbeat attitude, you are a winner.

Hi, Tracy! It is so good to have you here. You are the first truly new face to me on this team. I look forward to knowing you.

I too was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I know the pain of it and am praying for you. There is a difference between confessing our struggle and need, and speaking out of lack of faith, my friend. Do not fear. God knows your heart toward Him and your trust in His sovereignty over your health issues. It is in telling others that we find His called and chosen ones who will come alongside to stand with earnest expectation and hope of seeing Him move in your situation. Where two or more are gathered in unity, there He is in their midst. And when we confess our sickness to others who will pray, He hears and answers. How can others who hurt as we do know how to walk through their pain in faith if they do not know that we understand by experience so they can see our example and follow suit. So fear not. We believe with you for your healing.

My Doctor put me on a med I agreed to take for a short term with the understanding that it sometime "jump-starts" the proper function of the nervous system to alleviate the symptoms of Fibro. I took it, sensing God's lead to do so, with faith that is what would happen, and God was faithful again. When my 6 months were over, I got off the med, and have had few symptoms since. Only when I get way overly tired do I struggle with its effects. I credit God who answered not only my prayers, but those He led me to share my struggle with, and who faithfully prayed me through those days. Many of them are on this team. Many of us here have or have had Fibro. We are happy to walk with you.

BLESSings!
Darlene D-Abby

Hi everyone! It's been great reading all of your introductions and and becoming acquainted with you all!! This looks like a great team; I'm excited to be a part of it :)

I'm Tracy and I live in Montana right at the base of the Rocky Mountains. I am married to my high school sweet heart and after 25 years, am still crazy in love with that man!! We have two sons in high school, a freshman (Wyatt) and a junior (Kaz). We are a basketball family!! Both my boys play on the varsity team. Basketball is a year-round sport for us and I love it!! :) We raise quarter horses, but have cut our herd back significantly in the past few years. We now have just one stud horse and seven mares. I am so head-over-heels in love with Jesus and just could not imagine my life without God being the center of it! I teach Bible study from time to time, loooove to study God's Word, and loooove to learn!! :)

I have been on SparkPeople for what feels like forever. I do very well for a while and then just seem to quit. I can't fail again. I think I need to share something that even my closest friends really don't know. I have pain issues. I was a nurse for 10 years when I was involved in a patient fall and ruptured a disk in my lower back. To make a very long story short, I am now missing 5 disks in my lower back and 3 in my neck. The doctors are trying to diagnose me with fibromyalgia at the this time and I am struggling with that, to say the least! We serve such an amazing God. I absolutely know His healing power first hand! I know how faithful He is and it just seems like if I say these things out-loud, I am not operating in faith. I feel like I'm saying He can't or won't heal me and I know that is untrue. So, I've really not shared any of my struggles with anyone outside of my 3 guys and I've not really spoken out loud to them about it, either. They just see my struggles and are such an awesome force of help to me, but they've never heard me verbalize very much. My initial injury was in 2001, so this has been a very long process. The fact that I'm actually sharing this here and now is a bit terrifying, I must admit. So... yikes!! haha!

Anyway, I know that is a lot of info; I certainly hope it wasn't TOO MUCH. I guess I just need to be honest, and have a fresh, new start to this VICTORIOUS journey! I'm excited to be here with you all and will keep our group in my prayers daily!!

Have a healthy, BLESSED day sistas!! ;)

Tracy

Welcome to the group, Everybody!
Sarah, I know how hard it is to attend church once you have lost a loved one. I can remember being so disappointed that the City would not let us occupy our newly built church because of various issues. Our youngest son, Ben, died during that time and we had his service in the rented facility. Now, I am glad that happened. I do not think I could have remained in our church if his service and other memories of him were in that new building. God always has a plan!
Kiki, looking forward to getting to know you better.

Hey Sarah - welcome aboard. We all have our little problems but if we put them in God's hands, He will look after them for us. You have some things to sort out but they will get done and you will heal inside and out. While looking for a church, remember that God is always with you and if your anything like me, you have to stop, be quiet and listen. I have a problem with listening but I'm getting better. Good for you losing 120 pounds and you will shed the pounds that have showed up - don't give up, you did it once and you'll do it again. Being here is a good thing - support, motivation and prayer. God bless you on this new journey.

Welcome, Sarah. You continue to be in my prayers on your journey as a relatively new widow. We are part of the church, the body of Christ together. Though it is always best to have the face to face communion with a loving body, we will do our best to fill in until you find your way again. Hugs to you, beloved of God.

May we run in such a way that we may win. Think strong. Be strong. Finish strong. (1 Cor. 9:24).

Hi Carol..I am new but wanted to say that I enjoyed reading about you. I lost my husband in 2011 after a lengthy period of taking care of him at home and then in a nursing home. I can relate to the fact that your hubby has been ill and am praying his surgery goes well.

I am Sarah..been on sparkpeople forever it seems...lost lots of weight and gained back a bit that I am now trying to lose again...thank goodness it is not the 120 pounds I originally had to lose. I just bought a new house and am busy getting settled in. I live alone with my 2 dogs...one an ancient wiener dog who sleeps all the time and is on her journey to Rainbow Bridge...and a 1 year old yorkie girl that is my joy. I am on disability for fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease (having had back surgery) and graves disease(hyperthyroidism plus....) I worked as a NICU (neonatal intensive care) (sick and preterm babies) RN for 30 years....felt called by God to that profession and loved my job. I have two grown sons...and a 3 year old granddaughter that I struggle to see due to custody issues in a nasty divorce with my youngest son and a 10 month old grandson from my eldest son. My parents are 86 and my mom is legally blind and wheelchair bound....my dad has glaucoma and is losing his vision. I help them as much as I am able...
I do not have a church home now..after losing my husband I was not able to go to the church we went to..I tried once and it was just too hard...so I am searching for a new church...but it is hard to go by myself and to be honest...I have "put it off" with many trips out of town to visit my grandkids. I have been a Christian for many years...love Joyce Meyer...and I press on to do God's will for my life.

Hello ladies. My name is Carol. I've been kinda missing in action for a while. This past year has been a blur and my stress level has been thru the roof. But, I'm here now and hope to be a regular poster and sharer of our faith. I live in Northern Ontario Canada - born and raised in the city in which I still live. I'm married to a great guy for 42 years and have 2 married children. My son who is a Physical Therapist in a county hospital has just remarried October 2011 after being divorced for almost 12 years. He has a 16 year old son and a new baby boy, 6 months old. This little boy arrived 10 weeks early as his mother suffered with pre-eclampsia, he weighed in at 3 pounds and he and Mom stayed in hospital for almost 10 weeks before going home. I am happy to say he is now closing in on 14 pounds and thriving - our prayers were truly answered. My daughter lives in the same city as me, she is a teacher in a local high school, is married and has a 3 year old daughter who is the joy of our life.

My mother is almost 94 and lives in a retirement residence and lately showing signs of dementia, so that causes some concern to my sister and I, but her life has been filled with love, family, travel, grandchildren and now great grandchildren and she is content and ready to meet Jesus any time.

We've had our home for sale for about 6 months with no sale yet. We live on the waterfront in the country so the right people haven't crossed our paths yet, but I'm sure they will arrive soon and fall in love and want to live here. My husband has failing health, having a stroke 7 years ago and never fully recovered. Now he is suffering with osteoarthritis in his knee and will have it scoped in the Spring - hopefully that will help or it will be a knee replacement.

For the past 10 years, we have been wintering in NW Florida and will do the same this year - planning on heading south end of January.

I love to cook, bake, read, knit and attend regular bible study classes which I have been leading for quite a while. I am on a journey to a more intimate relationship with the Lord. There are days when I truly feel His presence and others when I have to search for Him.

BTW, I have quite a good sense of humor and see the funny side of things, I love to laugh AND I love to talk - lol. I am looking forward to a wonderful spiritual relationship with you.

Sally, it is good to have you with us. You were on the grief group because of the heartache over Ben's passing, among other things. We are here for you still. Feel free to be as open as you are comfortable with and we will come alongside you. Hugs, Darlene

Hello, my name is Sally. emoticon
My husband and I will be married 39 years this weekend. My dear husband has been chronically ill since the spring of 2006 and has not been able to work. He has had 8 surgeries. We both worked for corporate America for decades until we were down sized. We were both very active in our church and our parochial school. We raised two boys in Colorado in full view of the beautiful internationally known Rocky Mountain National Park. The oldest, Matt, is our miracle baby. We did not know we could not have children until after we had him. The second boy, Ben, was adopted from South Korea. Matt got his BA and then a Masters in counseling for children's behavior problems. He works for a school district in Florida. He is married with two girls. Ben got his Associates Degree and a Certificate to be a Pharmacy Tech. He wanted to become a pharmacist. Sadly, he suffered from Marfans Syndrome and died in his sleep on Dec 22, 2006. The summer before he died, he was able to be his brother's Best Man at the wedding. It was a beautiful time in our lives. Ben left us his beautiful little dog, Riley. She was sleeping in his lap when Jesus came to get him that cold snowy night.
Sparks has been a God send to me. It allows me to take care of myself, physically and emotionally. Sparks has also sent some good people into my life. May all of this continue with the new team!

Welcome, Veronique! I am glad you are here and I know the other ladies will welcome you as well. God birthed us through Israel. We may not recognize the same Christ, but we both await the Christ's coming. And we do serve the One True God together. We believe in the Old and the New Testament here. You are welcome to share from the portion of Scripture you use, and we pray to the same God, who hears the heart that is sincere in seeking Him. I love you, my friend. We can do this together because our God is for us and not against us. Hugs, Darlene

Hello, I am Véronique, and I am in Virginia. I am French and have lived in the US for now 32 years. I have 3 sons and live with the youngest one, 23, who is handicapped (severe autism and intellectual disability). My middle son is married with two children (a boy, 9 and a girl, 6) and my oldest is getting married in April. My husband (we were separated) died this past November and I am still going through the bereavement process. I lost my full time job in October and I am considering retiring. And I am the oddity among you: I am Jewish! I have known Darlene for quite some time and she has always made me feel welcome, as I like to join her in prayer. I have been on and off Spark for 4 years and trying to lose weight for years, more seriously lately because of arthritis in my left knee. I look forward to a fresh start with all of you!

Hi, I am Kathleen

Some of you already know me and some of us will get to know each other through this team.

I am happily married (40 years) to the love of my life and soul mate. We have two adult children who have not found that "special one" yet. As a result we have no blood grandchildren. We do have two "adopted" grand-daughters from our church family. One has been a part of our lives since she was a year old and the other came into our lives about two years ago. They are 12 & 13 respectively.

I am a retired nurse who worked mostly in Geriatrics. My husband served as Pastor of several different churches over the years in additional to secular jobs. He is also retired but continues to work part time.

We have lived in this community for 13 years and have attended the same church since arriving here. My husband serves unofficially as the assistant Pastor. The Pastor and most of the congregation thinks of him as the Pastor's assistant and frequently introduces him in that way. We do not care about positions or titles but just want to serve our God in whatever way He leads.

I have been on this weight-loss journey for many years and have had some success over the years. Last year was when I really started to get serious and became more compliant with my Diabetes lifestyle and eating habits. It took an A1c of 10 to force myself into becoming serious about my health and weight.

My determination for this year, 2013, is to become more Christ-like in everything I do. I am a temple for the Spirit of the Living God and want to honor Him in all of my activities, habits and interactions with others.

Hi, everyone! It's great to see some new faces here along with some familiar ones. emoticon

I'm Karen, 63 years old, happily married to my sweet hubby for 44 years, mom to 2 and nana to an 8-year-old girl. I live in a small town in NY state. Our son is disabled and lives with us, our daughter is married and lives closeby with her hubby and DGD. I've been here on SP for a little over 2 years and am hoping to reach my goal weight within the next few months. I mostly walk a lot for exercise and am not following any particular diet, just try to eat a healthy variety within my calorie range each day. I love to crochet, enjoy reading, Bible study, baking, gardening in the summertime, etc.

I like the idea of this new group - a fresh beginning for the new year.

Hi, I'm Robin. I live in PA, where we have almost 2 feet of snow right now, and it was 0 degrees this morning! Some of you already know me, but for those of you who do not...I just retired in July 2012. It was kind of necessary, as I had some health problems. Two stents put in a main artery descending from my heart in Sept, 2011, then another one put in June 2012. After that last one, I had a small stroke. I started out eating right and exercising great for the first 4 months after this last episode, but then lost steam. I have gained 7 pounds and am starting to get tired a lot again. I pray that it is not too late to get back on track and eat healthy and get my exercise in. I fear another blockage..this time they will have to do by-pass surgery. My brother had a severe stroke in November, and has had such a hard time. He just had surgery on his carotid artery last week. They removed over 3 inches of blocked artery and replaced it with a synthetic one. He had a very large blood clot, which they were able to remove as well. He still has a long way to go; what with physical therapy and occupational therapy. But, God has blessed him with lots of caring people who are helping him get back to where he should be.

It is a shame that stress makes some of us eat more, and just forget about ourselves (like Darlene said) and damage our own bodies.

If we saw all the difference even the tiniest of our prayers make, and all the people those...prayers were destined to affect...we would be so paralyzed with awe...that we would be unable to get up off our knees for the rest of our lives.

Hey, gang. I'm Darlene and I need to be steadfastly determined in this journey!

I have discovered as we begin 2013 that I have left myself behind and fallen to the wayside on my journey to a healthy lifestyle. Our family has so much going on that is challenging our mental and physical and spiritual faculties that I cannot afford to fall to the wayside on this journey. I need my health, my strength, my ability to have right thoughts and attitudes, and I must have a right and good and strong walk with my God. Thus begins The Steadfastly Determined Team.

We are here to help one another walk in victory over mind, body and spirit. We are here to encourage our journey to be one of determined purpose. When struggle comes, we come together to help each other not quit, but instead to lengthen our stride and press to the goal!

On a personal note for those coming in who do not know me, I am happily married to my best friend in life. We have three beautiful children who are married to wonderful mates we love. Our children and their mates have blessed us with 11 grandchildren (2 steps, one age 5, the other early 20s with 2 children of her own; the other 9 blood-born are ages 7-19).

I am a homemaker and help-meet to my man. I love the study of God's word and writing about it. Anything creative is exciting to me, including the use of creative computer programs, crochet and other needle crafts, etc.

I look forward to knowing each of you and to walking this journey together.

BLESSings to you,
