Happy New Year!!! The beginning of a new year for my life as well. Weight dropped another lb overnight so I am down 4 lbs in 5 days. Can't complain about that especially as I am not really "dieting". This is a life-style change, not just a diet. I feel great today, and my dog isn't itching like usual. The weather here in So. Calif is gorgeous along with the Rose Parade so what more can I ask for??? I wish everyone improved health, happiness, prosperity, love and whatever else we need to get through this year.

I said there is no soy on the meats at Chipotle's - wrong. I asked the manager and he said that they spray the grills and marinate the meats briefly with a soy oil. I ate some chicken anyway, and almost immediately, my tongue started to swell and my head clouded up. I think I am more than a little sensitive. My son didn't believe me, but he is gluten intolerant, not soy. Oh well. I made the morning protein drink with the hemp protein powder and immediately started coughing so I tested the stuff I put in it, and it was the hemp powder that caused it. Coughing usually means I ate something that my body doesn't like. Anyway, my pea protein that ordered through Amazon.com showed up this afternoon along with a bottle of hemp oil. I decided to use it as a body lotion - lots of good references on the site - and I put some on my dog's rear end as he is always scratching and spinning - and it stopped! I also gave him just a taste of it to see if he'll eat it, and he likes it, so I'll put some in his food in the morning. He's diabetic so maybe it will help him live longer. Went to Whole Foods in Pasadena and got the gluten free oatmeal and more cashew milk - almost half the price I paid for it at the health food store. I have to start going there more often. It was a zoo as the Rose Parade is tomorrow and everyone from Michigan and Illinois are here for that and the bowl game. Yikes. I am not leaving the house tomorrow.

4th day. I'm feeling okay - I'm down the pound that came on yesterday. Yesterday, I felt fantastic, but today, not so much. I found out that the oatmeal I've been eating has gluten so I have to go get a box of gluten free, probably from Whole Foods. Went to the local health food store yesterday and picked up a hemp protein powder plus a box of cashew milk - can't do either coconut or almond milk - I also picked up some quinoa - gotta figure out what to do with it. I want to use it like rice if I can find the right recipe. I also picked up some frozen chicken breasts so I have everything I need to stay in the program. My son, who is on a modified version of this, wants me to meet him for lunch today at Chipotles - they have salad with black beans, etc., that I know are not tainted with soy, etc. As I live alone with just my diabetic dog, I don't need to cook a lot - still working on getting the menus that I can live with. I am religious about no soy, corn, and everything else, but I notice that a little gluten creeps in if I'm not careful. And I just found out I can renew my gym membership so I will have no excuse not to exercise. Just hope my groin pains don't kick in again. Gonna be a good day today. Yay.

I am a 60 year old who has struggled with my weight for the last 18 years and blood sugar issues for the last 4 years. I couldn't lose weight without severely limiting (meaning eating around 1200 calories a day no matter how much exercise I do) calories. Then I saw JJ on tv.
Horray!!! Day 15 for me and I feel awesome!! Literally feel like I could climb a mountain and run down the other side!! My cravings are gone, my skin is clearing, and I am sleeping like a hibernating bear!! Perhaps I have leaky gut and all of the sleep is my body healing itself. Following the plan to a "T" and eating like a queen! (Hubby is watching and making changes in his diet, too, though not drastic yet). Finished week one the day before Christmas Eve and when the kids and grands showed up and I told them what I was eliminating, they said "What CAN you eat?" And I said, "I'll show you." Hubby had bought honey-baked ham, which I didn't touch, and I steamed broccoli and a stir-fry mix I had in the freezer (it had tiny corns and parsnips, which I picked out and steamed separately for hubby, green beans, bell peppers, and onions, to which I added yellow squash and zucchini). I had made some lemon garlic hummus, and I cut up some veggies. I put olive oil and italian seasoning on the veggies, and had baked boneless, skinless, chicken breasts. They ate like little pigs, lol. Have lost 6 pounds but, in all honesty, I must say that I had entirely given up corn (having previously decided it was hurting me), peanuts (for the same reason) all sweeteners except stevia, potatoes and bread so this wasn't much more restrictive that what I was already doing. My mood has improved drastically. Every day is better than the one before. Good luck to all that are doing this; hope your experiences are as positive as mine.

Hi Everyone,
I just started the "diet" too. Day 4. My biggest support is that my husband is doing it with me! I was surprised to notice that I felt better on only the second day, and we both are down about 4 pounds already...right on track for the 7 pounds in 7 days...we can only hope! We are not finding the transition difficult as we already are in tune to eating organic, no sugar...She offers lateral shifts from things we were using like coconut milk from almond milk, and oils and better fats from butter so that wasn't difficult. There are lots of good grains to use instead of white rice and pasta....last night we had brown rice mei fun (pasta)tossed with scallops with ginger and garlic and lime juice...whats not to like? with corn/products being 90% genetically modified it makes it easy to justify deleting that. The biggest thing I would recommend to insure success on this plan is to CLEAN OUT YOUR CUPBOARDS..if it is not there, you wont eat it. I just went through mine and have two big walmart bins full of products that we should cut out...bringing the open products to a friend and donating the rest to a food pantry...the temptation would be too great to "use up" those last few eggs, or that package of ziti....or the soysauce etc. These things will sabotage you....get rid of them. Some people think of the expense...but you are cutting out 2 meals a day....that's less food you have to buy or at least equals what you spend on the protein powder..I know it's not for everyone...it is hard to get off the processed food treadmill but for those of us going for it....I wish us all success and better health! Here's to a Happy and Healthy and skinny New Year!!

Good morning. Second day on the Virgin Diet. So far, I've lost 3 lbs. My head is kind of mushy and I have pains in my hip, but that is to be expected. I've almost cleaned out most of the foods with the soy and other stuff I can't have - anyone want a dozen eggs I just bought? I tried eating a hard boiled egg for a snack and I already had a reaction to that. Going to be an interesting ride, but I know I will feel fantastic once I get through the first few days. Already, the cravings are going away. I want to eat but I'm not interesting in gorging myself. I love this so far. Gotta go shopping today to get the protein powder, but I cannot afford the products JJ sells so will settle for stuff that isn't so expensive.

Hi. I have been trying to lose weight forever, it seems. Lose 2 or 3 lbs., then eat like mad to get them back. I have about 160 lbs to lose and am 77 years young. I have had lots of stuff going on in my body and go to a holistic doctor to handle most of them - plus my regular doctors who want to prescribe medications I won't take like high blood pressure medication or thyroid or diabetes medication which I don't need. Anyway, yesterday, my holistic doctor told me I have a bad sensitivity problem with soy - I knew I had a soy problem before but never did anything about it. But being older and lethargic, overweight, moody sometimes, etc., I did not attribute that to food, just my age and the obesity. Both my son and granddaughter have soy, lactose and glucose intolerance and have been able to get it under control with diet changes. Now, it is my turn, I guess. My next door neighbor has a corn intolerance so has been following the Virgin Diet, and suggested I get the book, so I downloaded it into my Kindle last night. I'm shocked at how much stuff has soy. Someone gave me some facial towlettes for Christmas and I looked and the second ingredient is soy. Now I have to clean out my cupboard and start over. Hope I can do this.

Hello all! I am not new to the Virgin Diet, just trying it for the second time, hopefully for good! My name is Paige and I am 19 years old (probably the youngest on this forum, so please bear with me!). I don't have any major health problems, but I do experience grogginess during the day, sickness after eating sugars or gluten, and low energy throughout. I feel that at my age I should be much more energetic and awake! Although I am in the "healthy weight" spectrum, I am closer to being "overweight" than I would like. My starting weight is 178 (I am 6 feet tall) and I would like to get down to 145, which is still a healthy weight for my age and height. I tend to succeed when I have motivation and encouragement, which is why I joined this forum! I would love any tips any of you have for me as far as sticking with it. I look forward to reaching my goal and watching all of you reach yours too!

Hello ladies. I'm just starting the virgin diet. I'm excited because it expresses many things I believe to be true. A friend at work has been on the diet for a few months. She looks fabulous!!
I can only hope I do as well on the diet. She's lost about 30 lbs., but that's not what really impressed me. She looks years younger, and her mood and energy levels seem to be much higher.
I'm having to start slow due to the cost of the diet. I bought the book, the protein drink, coconut oil, and a few other items. I'll have to add a little at a time. There were several items I didn't have. I think this may be for the best. Slow and steady wins the race. I'm much more aware of what I'm eating that isn't on the diet. I'm planning on starting the diet tomorrow. My husband will be gone a couple of days and that may be a plus. I can concentrate on myself and my needs.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. I'm going to be in great need of support, and I'll be willing to give in return. I work third shift, and this is ideal for a support system.

Wendi, I didn't even think about that my body was working on healing itself and that might be causing my slow weight loss. It makes sense.

Party, sorry to hear about your foot. I am no expert, but, from what I do understand, your body is using a LOT of energy to heal your bone. Your body is not focused on losing weight. I bet when your bone is healed, your weight loss will pick up!

Hi Patty!!!

Sorry to hear about your broken foot... YEOWCH!!! Been there, done that.

Everyone will experience a different weight loss... As I recall, I don't think I lost the 7 pounds in 7 days either, but I was so glad to finally see the scale moving in the right direction, I was encourage to continue, and then, best of all, I started noticing the other benefits from following this lifestyle... No more joint pain, bloating, gas, etc... That and the continued two to three pounds lost per week, kept me motivated and got me to my goal... Just remember, you CAN do it!!!

It's good to have you on board and posting!!! Keep up the good work!!! It's SOooo worth it!!!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Patty. I discovered the Virgin Diet from a PBS show a while back and it stayed on my mind. Since I broke my foot 5 weeks ago I decided that now would be a good time to start so I went and got her book from the library and started last week. I lost only 2 pounds on my weigh in today. I was hoping for more since she claims 7 pounds in 7 days but I'm happy the scale moved. I've been pretty inactive with my broken foot so I don't know if that might have something to do with the low loss. Anyway, I get my cast off in 2 more weeks and hope that I will be able to see more weight loss as I become more active.

There is a family wedding in February so I figure I have about 4 months to see some good results. I feel motivated after the first week of the diet and I'm happy to find this team.

Welcome IGNAZIA!!!

Congratulations on finding the the lifestyle that addresses the real reason why some of us have such a hard time losing and keeping the weight off... The dreaded "7 Hi Fi"... I've been battling my weight all my life, but when I saw that PBS special and read the book, it just clicked... I got on the Virgin Diet back in March, and have been losing consistently since, but it's not just the weight loss that has me so excited... My joints no longer ache, there's no more bloating and I'm sleeping so much better at night.

Again - Welcome to the team!!!

I am reading The Virgin Diet right now, and am so excited to get going. I've had lots of issues with food sensitivies--- I have had a casein allergy my entire life. And gluten causes me issues. But I still have issues and problems losing weight. I'm going to be starting the 21 days full force once I cycle out this box of oatmeal I have and some eggs!

Looking forward to supporting everyone!

Where is Canada do you live :)? This protein is higher in sugar than recommended (it has 10g's) The kind I use is VegaOne it is sweetened with stevia and has added vitamins and minerals. For some people its too earthy. There is a Canadian brand called progressive called Harmonized vegan protein. Its less earthy and still has some added nutrition. I know they sell that brand at nutrition house. Usually its best to get ones sweetened with stevia... xylitol is okay too if it says its from birch not corn. I stay away from it just because it can cause bloating and other side effects if you have too much. I just think its probably not that good for you if it causes gas and bloating.

Hello MASONSVAVO
The Virgin Diet Chi All-In-In One Shake has Organic Cane Juice Sugar and the Thorne VegaLite has Stevia extract. I'm not sure of any others. They are very good. The Brown Rice Protein I bought over the counter to just get started was ok but pretty gritty. I bought a small canister of the chocolate and one of the vanilla of the VegaLite so I'd get some of each, then bought the Chi All-In-One. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of gathering supplies and cleaning out my kitchen to begin the 21 day Virgin elimination. Can anyone tell me what sweetener(s) are in the Virgin protein powder. I've found a vegan protein powder at costco.ca http://www.costco.ca/Webber-Naturals%C2%AE
-100%25-Natural-Vegan-Protein-Powder-.
product.10395728.html?catalogId=11201&
keyword=vegan+protein&langId=-24&storeId=10302
and wanted to compare ingredients. the Virgin website doesn't have any ingredient information.

thanks so much!

Hi Angel!!! Welcome to the team!!! Looking forward to getting to know you and share ideas!!! Thanks for the "root beer" idea... Oh! Even though I'm a newbie, I forgot to mention the one recommendation I had for those starting this.

Do you love Root Beer soda?

Well, there's a red Root Beer tea that takes care of the cravings and is healthy for you!

Check it out: bit.ly/10JsqQs

I've been drinking this tea for over 6 months and never have a craving for soda because of it!

Hope that helps!

Hi everyone! I'm Shannon!

I just happened on JJ's PBS show yesterday and I was sold! Sure, there are some foods that I'm not looking forward to living without (soy, sugar and dairy) but I've been stuck (and sick) for too long! With Fibromyalgia, any food allergies intensifies and I'm done living this life.

This morning was the beginning of the 21-day cycle for me. I'm so happy I can keep my coffee (now with coconut creamer) and I've put a serving of raw almonds on my kitchen counter since I have a habit of grazing. Instead of my Kashi cereal for breakfast, I made Crazy Kitchen's Strawberry Fields green smoothie. I added a bit of raw oats to the blender mix as well as flaxseed meal to add more calories (and health benefits).

So, here I am! Ready to get this party started!

Hello! This is me on day one of Cycle 1. At this exact moment I am thinking I need to get off the computer and go make my shake. I was on looking up comments on the shake but have ended up joining the time. My husband is doing this with me so I bet he's hungry too. After lunch I have to go to town to purchase a hand blender I can take to work for shakes and try to find some sort of protein to grill tonight (since it's Memorial Day) and it seems the thing to do! Glad you all are here.

Welcome NIKFODO2!!! I think you're going to be more than pleased with the results you get on the Virgin Diet... I am so thankful I saw the PBS special, that got me turned around and heading down the right road to good health... I started the Virgin Diet 3-3-13... I'm 64 and am feeling better than I did 30 years ago!!! No lie!!! I'm working out 5 days a week on the TreadClimber, and am able to swing up in my Aussie saddle with ease.

Look forward to reading your posts and hearing about your progress.

I have just read the book and am more than ready to do this. I am 40 years old - overweight, stomach issues, IBS, and lacking energy. I am hoping this will work!!

Hi Courtney!!! Welcome!!!

I too am enjoying the boundless energy since starting the program!!! One of the biggest things for me was getting rid of the bloating.

Hi all! I am new to the Virgin Diet, on day 6 and doing really well! Very happy with it so far, I have tweaked the shake to find a blend that works for me and I have gotten used to the taste of the pea protein powder. I am missing beer and wine some though! I am a believer because I have so much energy compared to how I was feeling before. I have been on and off of WW forever and I have vowed never to spend another 60 bucks signing up for WW online every time I gain weight back and am feeling low!

Even if I don't lose weight, not having to worry about the health of my diet is huge.

Courtney

Welcome...
Do what you can to avoid diet coke at all costs...try and find a substitute. As for caffeine the best stuff I found it a tea called yerba mate. I have been drinking it for years... it takes a bit to get used to the taste, but I like it. Drinking even one coke wrecks havoc on your system. Diet coke or pop is worse than drinking a normal pop and will cause more weight gain than a regular. I know its hard and hard to believe, but the way our bodys process all the chemicals in it is not good. Stay strong. Try and find a healthy alternative. It makes staying healthy easier and makes the initial change easier to grasp

Oh my word!!! I'm so excited to find that Spark really does have a team for those of us following the Virgin Diet!!! emoticon

I'm a Kansas country girl, sharing life with horses, goats, chickens and cats.

Yesterday was day one of cycle 2 and it didn't take long to realize that I am indeed, gluten intolerant!!! JJ was right, when she said "you'll know"... I'm so bummed, as I absolutely loved my multi grain flatbreads for sandwiches.

Welcome and congrats. I am sorry I have no suggestions on the restaurant front. I never really eat out. Also at work they have catering and the guys there make sure my food has none of the 7 forbidden foods. Hopefully someone else can help who has some experience.

Hi! I am new to this forum. I started the diet in January after watching one of the PBS shows, just like many of you in this forum. I have a history of food allergies and am on a quest to improve my health and feel better, after being sick every winter with infections. i also want to lose weight as a secondary goal.

i love the way i feel on this diet. Less aches and pains, no asthma and upper respiratory problems, no chest infections!

I have lost 16.6 pounds in 2.5 months and have decided to stay on level one until I reach my goal weight. The 2 times I tried a challenge, I felt so horrible and it caused weight gain that took a week to recover from.

The two shakes a day are really key to my weight loss and are so easy to do in the morning before work.

the hardest part of this diet for me is going out to eat. I try not to do it very often. does anyone have any suggestions?

I have been on the Virgin Diet for 7 weeks and have lost 20 lbs. Its the first eating plan that has really worked for me. A year ago I started going to a boot camp work out. I went faithfully 3 x a week, sweated like a pig, logged everything I ate (egg whites, whole grains, Greek yogurt, fruits, vegetables, all 1200 calories or less). I also walked every day. After 1 month I had not lost a pound (although the workouts were good for me). So I gave up until now. The Virgin Diet is how I will eat forever.

Hi everyone. I'm Lisa, I'm in the midwest & i am 43.9 yrs old. LOL

I am thru my first 3 weeks. I have tested eggs the last 2 evenings, tonight will be my 3rd. I bought the book in the beginning of February. Started buying things to have on hand & started middle of that month. I have lost weight (20lbs in the 1st 3 weeks) & I am still losing.

Thankfully eggs haven't seemed to cause any problems. I am watching like a hawk, no bloating, weight gain, cramps, gas, breakouts etc. hopefully it stays that way. *crosses fingers*

I don't feel like i am missing out, starving, or craving junk like before. I think the staples in my cabinet are salsa, ghee, & cracked black pepper. LOL I had a cold for a few days, during that time Hot sauce was my friend, cause I couldn't taste anything. LOL

Since starting, I sleep well, am gaining more energy, and as an added benefit, i had minimal PMS symptoms. Had a 1.5lb gain that was gone the next day and minimal cramps. that's a Huge change for me. (sorry if TMI)

I am looking forward to chatting, gaining info, and meeting other on the journey.

~Lisa
