I like your goal! Good luck with your progress!

I like the sound of your mashed potato with kale in it! I will try that.

If you mash potato with a little of the cooking water and a drizzle of olive oil instead of milk and butter, you will have a less fatty vegetable. And the kale in it adds to the flavour, as does my husband's favourite - finely chopped raw onion or spring onion.

I want to try the cauliflower suggestion, too!

Welcome. Losing 47 pounds in your 47th year sounds like a great goal. Spark People will definitely show you how to do this in a healthy manner.

Welcome, Welcome!!! I agree this site is amazing. If you make mashed potatoes a lot, you could try making them with half potatoes and half cauliflower....I do all cauliflower myself, but it took a bit to get used to it. Good luck!!

Hello everyone, my name is Siobhan ( sounds like CHEVAUN) and I am an Irish mammy
to a college student and a six year old , living a hour away from Dublin. I am 47 years young and hoping to lose 47 lbs before my sons 7th birthday in November 2013. I joined last night and I think this site is amazing,
I have got so many tips already, didnt know that you could even use kale in a salad, we normally mash it up with mashed potatoes a little raw onion, milk and butter yummy but not so
light in calories. I'm so up for this challenge and had two salads today already not at the same meal ha ha
for dessert I microwaved pear and nectarine slices and added 2 tablespoons of low fat yogurt
over the warm fruit , hot and cold lovely....
