Hello all, I am Sheryl. Last year was a busy but rough year for me, I turned 50 and I lost my father, who I was his caregiver for 8 years. I suffer from RA and depression and I have about 80lbs to lose. This year I have dedicated to myself in feeling better inside and outside. To everyone out there, good luck and lets have some fun this year.

Sheryl D.

Hi! I am Wendy, 54, from Newberry, South Carolina. I have over 200 pounds to lose and I know it will take a while to do so - especially since at present I can barely move at all without becoming extremely short of breath. I am pretty much wheelchair bound after having been hit by a car 6 1/2 years ago. I am an insulin dependent diabetic and must follow a fairly specific breakdown of calories throughout the day in order to keep the blood glucose within a healthy range. I am down 39 pounds since January and 11 inches off my waist. I am hoping to be able to start exercising soon. When I hit 275 pounds I can see my orthopedic surgeon to schedule my knee replacement surgeries which will allow me to walk again. That is Goal number one. I would be willing to share encouragement with anyone on here, as well as tips and recipes. I would like to get to know some of you better and possibly become friends!

Wendy Polk

I trust in Jehovah to provide for me. He will help me to remain positive and moving forward--no matter what!

Hi all! I'm Cheri and will be 49 this July...I joined SP almost a month ago and I just love this site! I have lost 25 pounds since November, but needed help tracking my exercise as well as calorie intake, which is what brought me here. I still have about 30-35 pounds to relieve myself of. I am usually very athletic so this has been not too hard for me, but I know when I get down to the last 10 pounds or so it will be harder. I HAVE to exercise and eat smaller portions to lose weight, but that's just me...Just wanted to say hi to our team since we all joined at the same time...we can motivate each other!! emoticon .

why be normal?

Hi I am Heather. I am here to not only lose parts of me forever but to also impreove my health and change some lifesyle habits. I have joined a gym in January and have already lost over 23 inches of myself and lost 13 lbs. I have found that I absoluely love lifting weights and am really only one of the women in my gym who will lift heavy weights. I am now squatting the weight of both my sons put together 145 lbs! I am seeing results although it has been very hard work. I am also getting better at eating better and have stopped all soda intake. I make weekly goals and track everything that i do and also eat and drink. I have had to accept that even small successess are successes and that I cant get to frustrated because no matter what i am doing my best and also need to allow my body to respond to all of this even if my mind has responded long ago. emoticon

I am here to help anyone becuase believe me this isnt my first weight rodeo. I love to share and also lookf or new ideas. please send me a message or post or anything if you need a laugh, hug, or even motivation.

It never occurred to me to track my urges so I could head them off at the pass. I'll give it a try. thanks, WILLRN

Something I have learned before when on Weight Watchers, was to get more protein which really helped to control the urges, so keeping track of the time you usually start craving, and then planning snack with protein 30 minutes before that time can help. I struggle with this too. emoticon

Hi I am 40 years old and I want to get healthy!!!
I started doing at least a mile a day every day back Feb. 1st of this year. I am slowly trying to add things to help reach my goal(s). I quit smoking on Feb. 6th of this year. I gained a lot of weight after the car accident leaving me with lumbar issues so learning how to modify or accept the exercise I can now do.

Hi,
I'm a 64 year old woman who's been battling weight gain since I was 40. Stopping smoking when I was 50 and giving up caffeine a few years ago made matters worse. I've been trying for a while to slim down on my own, using the methods that have worked for me in the past, but it just isn't working this time. So I decided to get some support. Weight Watchers was too expensive for me and, anyway, this site is far more interesting and just as good. Here's hoping all us newbies find our way to slimness and contentment!

Hi, my name is Denise, I'm 54 and just happen to come across this on the web. I decided to try the Dr. OZ 3 day detox, and then that motivated me to go on. I like that it tells you how many calories to consume a day and its very easy to keep track of them. I'm excited to begin this journey and hope I keep motivated!

Welcome to all! I've been here all of five days..first and only time, please...so all of you returners have to help keep me in line, okay? I'm 52...had five kids, but didn't put on the weight until about age 48....so I am clueless....

But as for kids and house and work...see how much you can get done at the same time? And don't always make the work easier for yourself. I was weird...when sitting on toidy, clean off the back of the toidy, when washing hands, wipe down the mirror and faucets, after shower, wipe down the bath/shower, use damp towel to damp mop the floor...(odd but they help burn calories too, I think...) Things like that around the house. I had a stupid game with my kids, called talented toes, where if the living room needed picked up -we'd put a trash can in the middle of the floor, pick up tissues, papers, etc with our toes and try to shoot baskets. Same with laundry in the bedrooms...crazy, fun, different....but can be a lot of fun....

Hello all!

I am a returning member, I think this is my second return to SP. I am 38 and a stay at home, homeschooling mother of three boys and one pit bull. I have 140 to lose and this is my last good stab at doing it naturally before giving in to weight loss surgery so please wish me luck!

My biggest struggle is with dinner and snacks. My husband has a bad habit of bringing junk food into the house. I seem to do well with breakfast (when I eat it) and lunch, but mid afternoon through evening, well everything goes into my mouth I swear.

Hi All! I'm Joell. I've been on and off the Spark for a while now losing, gaining, losing, gaining. Vicious dumb cycle. Had a few big wakeup calls over the last few weeks.... BP 134/99 (ugh), saw a picture of myself and didn't recognize the person, cholesterol/triglycerides are up a bit, hiking in the mountains had an episode of fast heart rate and shortness of breath that scared me and overall just feel like crap. I turned 40 last summer and was running, watching the diet. I actually ran an 8 minute mile. Lost a little bit of weight, but really toned up..... skip to now. I barely got through the mile at 11 minutes and I'm a bunch of flab and cellulite. As an ICU nurse, I've been seeing more and more patients in their 40s in the ICU with issues that are directly related to obesity and inactivity. That could be me in that bed. Time to get real. Let's do this!

Hi, I'm Sara, and this is my third attempt at SP. It has been a few yrs since I was last on here, but did have some success when I was. Soooo I have decided to give it another go. I have had some health issues, and injuries so have not been too active lately. I have recently got my injury under control, and am now able to move better. Time for me to get myself back on that old exercise horse, and kick up some dirt and achieve the weight that I want to be.

I am looking forward to being part of this group, and to daily log in my meals, fitness, and words of encouragement.

Hi Alli (thistime86)
I was looking over the posts and your msg stood out to me. Although I am older, I feel like our situations are similar....I often feel as if i am just putting in time with my current body but not actually living. Three kids and a full time job often leave me feeling exhausted and frustrated that I don't have the time or energy to take care of myself. I just thought I would let you know that I commend you for taking the steps toward a better life and in turn I am validating myself, as well. Good luck on your journey!

Hello Everyone,
I am Paula. I am a mother of 3 children that are under the age of 12 and I have been married for almost 17 years. I am a teacher and along the way I have stopped taking care of myself. I am an older parent and I really don't want to miss out on my children's lives, which is the direction I feel I am heading.
I have tried SparkPeople in the past, but didn't have the dedication. Two years ago, I lost 45 lbs but it was done in a really unhealthy way (very low calorie intake with HCG drops). I know I can do it and I like the accountability that Sparks provides and the structured program.
Good luck to all on their journey!

Hi All,
I'm Jen and I recently found out that I have type 2 diabetes. I've used sparkpeople in the past and needed an easy tool to start tracking my calories and carbs, so I thought I would come back. Any weight loss that happens right now will be an added bonus, but I have a feeling that it will be slow until I get my thyroid and blood sugar levels regulated. Good luck to everyone on their journey!

Hi, everyone. My name is Catherine. I am 23, and I have tried Sparkpeople several times, but I always let life get in the way. This time, I am determined to keep up with it.

I don't have any children, but I have a 40 year old boyfriend who has 2 children and an almost 3 year old granddaughter.

I work in transportation at a nursing home, so even though there are physical aspects to my job (a lot of walking, bending, squatting, and some lifting), it has a lot of sitting, too.

I want to fit into my clothing and feel better about my body, hopefully by my next birthday, but at least by the end of the year.

Hi! Melissa here. 34 yr old mom of two. I have tried most everything under the sun, but have never stuck with it for long. My GOAL is to eat healthy with whole foods, natural foods, not prepackaged foods. No more starvation diets for me. The time is now and I am all in! One bad meal does not break all the effort. I have recently started Zumba classes 4 days a week and am completely hooked. My endocrinologist said that unless I make drastic changes I will be a diabetic and I cannot let that happen! So glad to be here!

Hi Alli! Good for you for coming back to Spark! I have been here before too and just didn't have the drive to keep going. I've also been on Weight Watchers, etc. I came back to spark a few days ago and I want this time to be the one for me. I feel the same as you... I'm 26 years old and I don't want to waste anymore time. It might take me a while to reach my goal, but I won't give up again! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you stay on track :) Good luck!

I am a mom of two active toddlers and I am trying to lose weight but more importantly develop some healthy habits so my kids can learn from a positive example. I have tried to loose weight a lot of different ways, but this is my first time on spark. I am hoping that this community will give me accountability and motivation!
From reading your posts, some of you sound hopeful, some already discouraged. But you took the step to sign up for this! That is awesome! Lets use it together, check in on each other, and I know we can all be successful.
I'm looking for people who will help me on this journey.

Hey everyone. Name's Alli. Been on Spark before but wasn't ready to commit I guess.Going to be 27 soon and I'm determined to not waste anymore time just existing in this body the way it is. I have three kids and a 10 year "marriage". Both of which are constant sources of stress. I work anywhere from 5-6 days a week, almost always 10 hours or more. Work is definitely a source of stress. Between trying to balance my schedule, the kids schedules and fit in the "hubby" I'm left with very little time to myself and I'm trying to find the motivation to use that time for fitness instead of zoning out. Best of luck to everyone with their goals!

I'm Gail. I'm 52 (soon to be 53) years old and only put this weight on in the last few years...5 kids didn't get me fat, but computer and driving work after manual labor did. I am not amused. I hate fat. I need to lose 54 lbs. To lose, I used to not have the patience to wait in line for food, I'd see them breaking ribs to do open heart surgery and scraping out the arteries with a scalpel of the artheriosclerotic (cholesterolllllllll), and look at trash cans, peoples plates, and rolls of fat over their belts and sides of their chairs, and the sickening mix of flavors and temperatures on their plates at pot lucks, and remember the stench of dumpsters at fast food places...help to motivate anyone????? sometimes it does....oddest thing......or think of the fat on your body as lard in a fry pan......

I smoke...not good..but always make sure that I am considerate of others and made sure that I retained wonderful lung expansion so as to minimize doctor's lectures on smoking. But when I heard heavy people complaining about the effects of 2nd hand smoke and how detrimental it was, and made them short of breath......I wanted to scream!! What are the 2nd hand effects of obesity (heart disease is the number one killer in this country and obesity is it's number one cause). That shortness of breath..have you checked your carbohydrate and sodium level intakes? let alone the stresses of the extra weight on your heart and joints? Now you in the hospital-work-family-other responsibility, lack of mobility, stresses on furniture, vehicle, wearing out shoes and clothes faster and what additional food costs to support your habit? sorry.....had to vent....Now, I'm with you. this sucks.

Hi I'm Grace! I've been here before, but have struggled with weight loss on and off for a very long time. I figured I would come back to SparkPeople to hopefully find some new motivation and maybe get some help staying on track!

Hi, I'm Dana. I also was part of Spark People several years ago. I half-heartedly tried then and lost some weight. I was at my all-time high about 18 months ago and lost 35 lbs with WW but have had a hard time with their program for the past year or so and wasn't able to lose more. I have since gained back about 15 pounds. I decided to try again over here with a different tracking system. I feel ready and empowered to lose again and am really focusing on whole foods rather than the prepackaged "weight-loss" foods.

Happy tracking and hope we can help each other make the best choices for our health.

hi I'm Jo and I did sparkpeople first of all about 5 years ago and lost too much weight..

I've since put a load back on due to anti depressants and I'm just here to lose a few pounds...

Today I didn't eat enough (only 600 calories by dinner - eek!!!) so have just filled up on lasagne and marrowfat peas...yum and filling (and the remainder of my 200cal lunch)

So hoping I can lose these few pounds in a few weeks (7-10) and then worry less about food but still cut out my doughnuts at volunteering in the pms

Jo

Hello. I tried this site out once a long while ago -- didn't quite work for me then, but I'm here to try again. I have 37 pounds left to lose - already lost 40 after reaching my all-time high of 225... The problem is, that was nearly 3 years ago! and I've been at this same 185ish plateau ever since. It has been very frustrating.

My name is Christie, and I've been Sparking since Fall of 2009.

I'm 50 years old and have struggled with my weight for many years. You can go to my SparkPage for details about my journey.

I hope you find as much success with SparkPeople as I had and continue to have!
