Ok so I'm ready to change how I feel. I'm in a rut and can't seem to get out. I used to eat healthy and exercise. I've become so lazy and make all kinds of excuses about being busy-which I am- but aren't we all? I need a change! I'm ready to get back to feeling good. I have 2 daughters (twins) in college & two young boys (ages 8 & 5). I need energy. I also have a closet full of clothes that don't fit. I can't afford to buy new ones & I'm tired of feeling frumpy. I'm ready...so here I go!

I have the same issue. Pastries, cookies, ice cream and anything else sweet has always been my downfall. I have completely cut them out the last month or so and I must say it has helped!! Good lucky :D

Hello my name is Michelle and I am 22 years old. Over the past few years I have gained a lot of weight. I know this is my fault due to the diet I kept and no exercising, but I am ready to change that my goal is to go from 202 pounds to 145! I really hope that I can loose this weight and keep it off so that I can feel good about myself once again! Hope everyone's weight loss journey is going well thus far!

Hi, I am 47 and ten to 14 pounds overweight. It doesn't sound like much but I have been having a hard time losing any of it for the last three years. I probably haven't really been trying and a friend suggested spark people to me. I'm tracking my weight, diet and exercise. It helped the first couple of days but I'm starting to rationalize the sugar in my diet and I KNOW I have to eat less.. I'm guilty of being an emotional eater and I also eat when I'm bored. I think that if I keep logging in and tracking, it may help me to stay on track. I just tried really hard for something else that really matters to me and I got rejected. I want to eat to dull the pain. I'm just tired of failing at things. I can't fail at this weight thing. I can't fail at my music either but it's not my choice when they don't pick me. I can only do the best I can but it stinks! I miss performing on stage soooo much. I know it's not a matter of how talented I am. I graduated from college as a music major and have had some success but I'm feeling low after not getting cast this week. I need A LOT of encouragement here.

Like several people I have been hesitant to post. I am 47 years old and have been overweight for at least 20 years. I have tried several diet and exercise plans over the years and would lose a little and get discouraged and quit. On 09/13/2012 our local health department offered a shape up program with diet challenges and exercise at least 30 minutes 5 days a week. I signed up and the first step was to step on the scale. I weighed in at 257. It was really helpful to have to be accountable and weigh in weekly and support that the health department offered and still do. I actually came in 1st place for weight loss after 8 weeks. That was a real motivation to keep me going. I came across Spark People on 02/01/2013 and really like the atmosphere they have created with the motivation page and support that is offered and with tracking my food page. When I started on Spark People I weighed in at 200 and have lost 5 more pounds since starting. My hope is to be soon jogging a complete 5K and enjoying all the health benefits of not being overweight.

Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting on the message boards ever. I joined SP because I'm sick & tired of feeling fat & sapped of energy. My health has deteriorated after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder five years ago. After numerous relapses & medication changes; I've gained close to 30+ kgs, have high cholesterol & a fatty liver. My illness has cost me my home, relationship, career & health. After fighting & punishing my body with drastic diets & excessive workouts; I'm waving a white flag. I would love to shed the 30kgs I've gained, but honestly; I just want to try & and heal my body & return to good health. I honestly just want to be healthy; I'm tired of striving so hard. This may seem a cop out to some, but I truly believe if I focus on regaining health, my weight will follow. So, at this point, my goals are to drink at least 8 glasses of water/day & increase healthful, healing foods in my diet. Please message me, I love the community aspect SP & I love learning about what's working for other people. emoticon emoticon

My most valuable tool to use here is education! I have learned so much about fitness and nutrition. The more you know.... That has been key. I "thought" that I knew so much, but actually knew so little. When you learn more, you can "fine tune" what is right for you. It is easy for someone else to tell you what you should do, but are they you? You learn to make the right choices for you. Good Luck!!!

Hi All, I was hesitant to post anything to the message boards because it just seems a little overwhelming at first, but I love the sense of community and support that I'm seeing here.

I'm 38 years old, and I've spent the last 7 years with extra weight. I used to be pretty athletic, but life had different plans for me and after moving to a new place, getting divorced and generally losing track of myself, I put on too many pounds. I'm currently 198 lbs, and what I considered my happiest/healthiest looking weight was 145/150. I have a ways to go. Since I started my new fitness routine and lifestyle on January 24th, I have lost 6lbs!! I've taken the guidance from SparkPeople to heart and I've reduced my calorie intake and have been tracking what I eat. The really big change I have made is that I joined a gym. I see a personal trainer 2x week, and on 3 of the other days I do cardio. I'm trying to kickstart this new routine and get into new habits, so I'm shooting for 5x a week at the gym for the first 6 weeks. I'm hoping by then it will just become a habit.

So this is me, a 38 year old woman with about 45-50lbs to lose! I have faith I can do it and I'm working really hard toward my goal.

Hello Everyone!!
I am samantha & new to sp. i started my weight loss journey october 2011 when i learned that i have type2 diabetes. my starting weight was 258 pounds & my weight today is 222 . my goal weight is 150 pounds .
a little about me:
I am 47 years old. my husband bob & i just celebrated our 25th anniversary in january. we have a 6 year old son cameron & i am a sahm.
finding out that i am diabetic was a scary wake up call. i want to loose the weight first for myself, but i also want to be a good role model for my son. although he does not have a weight problem now i have noticed that he has picked up some of my bad eatting habits. choosing junk food over fruits & vegetables . snacking in between meals and drinking more coke than water. i have made many changes in the last few weeks with my diet biggest being giving up diet pepsi that has been the hardest so far. choosing baked over fried & staying away from fast foods.
my valentines gift to myself this year is a gym membership .i have not excer. in years tomorrow is the big day wish me luck!!!

Hi, Meg
You have a great attitude! Very inspiring!
I am excited also about getting down to my goal weight. My husband hasn't seen me in button/zipper jeans in years, since probably our first few years of marriage. I've been wearing stretch jeans for a long time now, so I'm looking forward to that!

Hi all! I am really late to the game here... emoticon

So far, the trackers here are really keeping me in line and away from those pesky carbs!

Hello! I am two weeks in. I need to lose 100lbs. I am getting separated and want to feel my best when new love finds me. I also need to keep up with 3 grandchildren. I am 39 yo. Mother of 4 who raised them on my own. I have not yet weighed myself, but I have an appointment on the 18th for my Dr. This tool has been so far very easy to track my eating and to make myself behave. I am going through a terrible break up so that has been very difficult for the emotional eater here.
I am excited to start a new life with a new me.

Hi, This is my first posting! I am a woman close to 70 yrs and have yo-yo-yo'd my whole life with food, exercise, weight issues, etc. Recently, a friend told me about Sparkpeople and I am excited. My first week was great; then I got the flu and haven't had the strength to exercise. I am not totally discouraged but will get on my treadmill today for 10 minutes.
My goal is to lose one pound a week; so by summer I can feel great at my lake home while sunning. Current wt is 162.5 and my coach's goal wt is 137; so, a ways away yet but hoping to achieve this.
Have a super spark day!!

Hi, everyone
This is my first time posting. I am 47 years old and would like to lose 79 pounds. My wedding anniversary (20 years) is coming up this October and would love to be close or at my goal weight by then. Wouldn't that be great?!
I've dieted before mostly using weight watchers, so this will be my first calorie counting. Before I started I documented a whole day of an average ww points day of eating. Wow! The salt was in the 4000's and the calories were over 1600! So that really truly opened my eyes...no wonder I was not losing weight very well with ww.
Sugar is my downfall..cakes, cookies etc...so I cut them all out. Greek yogurt and fruit will be my "sweets" for now on. Knowing how much I love the sweets I had to cut them totally out because I always seemed to "fall off the wagon" every time I would indulge in something even as small as a cookie. So no more denial no more excuses!!
We can do this!!!

Hello to everyone!
My name is Andrei (Andy), I'm 30 years old and I'm from Romania, so please excuse my English. When I first began using Sparkpeople my weight was 98 kg (215.6 pounds). Now after only about 2 weeks my weight is 92 kg (202.8 pounds) at a height of 1.75m ( 5 feet and 8.892 inch). I find the food and workout trackers very very useful. I'm also very pleased to meet you all.

PJNSGRL78 Welcome back! Tracking at Spark really helps me. I dont go to a gym either. There's lots of things you can do at home. There is even a book called Be Your Own Gym. Primal Blueprint aka Mark's Daily Apple has a free fitness download also.

To get the ball rolling, make sure you clean up your diet. Not diet as in something you are on, but the foods you eat are your daily diet. That is 80% of the game.

XKUROIBARA Welcome also! I am glad you have a network of support. I am also glad that you found Spark. The tracking especially really made all the difference in my journey.

Hey classmates, and welcome to all the newbies who posted before me. I'm making an effort to try and be active in my groups and at least post an introduction in all of them, and start playing the little games and using the daily chat boards or whatnot on all my groups. I feel it will really help me out in the long run if I check the communities every day. In that way I'm always keeping my goals on my mind and makes it harder to quit!

Anywho, about me. I'm 25 and I live with my best friend, my husband, and my two children, who might look like cats to the casual observer. Using wii fit to get my workout in, and using my roommate as my accountability buddy! I'm feeling good and I make sure to text her every day and tell her I'm proud of us and that we can do it. It really does make all the difference when you have a support network. I am more and more excited every day to get involved with the community here.

Hi all. I am 34 almost 35 married with no kids. I was on Spark People last year and I did quite well. I lost a total of 50 pounds only to gain back all except 10. I live in Canada with my husband and his parents. Unfortunately due to the fact I don't have my permanent residency yet I can't work. I don't drive. I can't even do any volunteer work right now. I have become very sedentary due to living conditions. I even quit going to the gym since transportation became such a hassle.

When I got on the scale and realized I had gained so much of my weight back (plus health problems and no real health care) I KNEW I had to fight through the obstacles. Hubby told me a week or so ago " You know when you were doing your best?" When you were on Spark. He was right! I had lost weight, felt less depressed, gotten more energy, and started to love the way I looked, Why wouldn't I want that back. So here I am again. This time to stay!

I am a bit shy and don't really have any friends in Canada. If you want to add me please do!

Hello! I'm not sure if I've introduced myself or not. I'm not sure if I automatically became a member of this team or if I had to join. I'm a week in and so far so good. The past couple of days have been kind of tough, I'm not getting enough sleep and I'm weak (lack of willpower) when tired. In fact, I should be in bed now. There's just so much to learn!! I appreciate being here and love everything this site has to offer! Thank you!!

Hi, I'm Carol. Iwas doing great for a few years with getting healthier but due to an accident & my dog being killed by a larger dog I went into a depression that lasted almost 2 years. This caused my other medical problems to flare, so I ended up gaining everything I worked hard to lose back, plus a few extra pounds. Now I'm trying to get back on track.

SHELTIESMART Welcome! emoticon I, too, wanted to get everything under control before I hit 50. I think it is in a few years, I have lost track, but I know I will make my goal :)

PKTRUCKDRIVER congrats on your 75lbs! Sometimes we hit plateaus. Our bodies adjust to the new weight, to the calories, the exercise.... that all becomes the new norm. When that happens to me, it is time to shake it up. Maybe a carb refeed day. Add some potatoes or sweet potatoes, etc.

You might also try calorie cycling, along with carb cycling, and do increased days on your increased work out day.

It also sounds like you might be suffering from a bit of Chronic Cardio. I am not an expert... so talk to a professional at your gym, but you may be over stressing your body. It may not have enough time to heal in between workouts.

How is your diet? Diet as in foods you are eating? You have to get your nutrition under control or it won't matter what you are doing at the gym. You have lost 75lbs, so I know I am not telling you anything new. The main thing is do not give up! Keep doing the things you know you should be doing, and eventually the scale will catch up. Take measurements. Lots of measurements in lots of different places. You may be losing inches without even realizing it.

A good read is Perfect Health Diet. Again, diet as in foods you eat, not something you are on. There is a 2nd edition book out now but there is also alot of info available on their webpage.

Best of luck you you on your journey emoticon

I'm soon to turn 50 and I would like to be healthier then I have been the past 20 years. Lately, I have been on a weight yo-yo, which is never good. So I hope this site will stop the yo-yo and let me have a steady decrease in weight and motivate me to move active.

Feeling like... going up a down escalator.

I am Patrick of Edgewater, Florida. Was 500+ lbs or so, down to 425 or so, but not yet under 400 and it is getting to me very very much, maybe too much...

I already go to the Edgewater Fitness center 1-2 hrs a day , 6 days a week, doing the bike , most ever at once was 4 miles, walked treadmill for 43 minutes, the longest, and do the weight machines for about 45 minutes or so. Not too much or that great, but my weight has been steady now for way too long and not dropping, frustration is about to blow

OOPs this was to be a hello I am here thing , sorry

Hi Everyone!

I joined SP about a week ago. I'm stay-at-home mom/freelancer and find it hard sometimes to remember about me. I want to lose weight but I really just want to feel better. I need energy for my kid and family in general. My husband and I are both trying to lose weight but I'm going this route. I find support groups helpful and I really like getting new recipes.

Looking forward to talking to others going through the same thing and looking forward to really taking care of myself.

I know what you mean. I saw this quote on Spark. I believe a Mark Twain. Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.

I figure it is like the oxygen mask on the airplane. I have to take care of myself first, so I will be in a better position to help those I love.

So glad to have you here!

Hey All!

This is my second time joining SP... I was a member a few years back but fell out of practice with some personal issues. I'm hoping to get back into the swing of things, because I'm sick of being fat! I work full time, I'm in grad school (although I'm taking the semester off).

I love dogs and I have two rescued pit bulls. I'm decided to take care of myself this year, so I'm spending more time with the dogs and making tough decisions that benefit me instead of those around me. It's not always been easy.

Thanks all, have a great week!

Under My Trackers, go to your start page.
Then left hand corner, under START, there is a link that says Account/Email Preferences. Click it

Then click on the Community Tab

Then you will see a Signature and Ticker button

Once your ticker is set up, and once you have your Sparkpage set up, you can go to your Spark Page and edit it there also.

Let me know if this makes sense, and then I can share it as a tip for others :)

XBOURQUE & Spikedthoughts1, Welcome!

This is a great place for like-minded support, lots of resources and information. I had some success on my own by making small changes, but it wasn't until I came to Spark that I could see how it all worked, and things clicked.

Welcome!! emoticon

I joined sparkpeople in the past for their work out videos, when I started to loose the weight. I started at 230, this was unacceptable to me if I wanted a healthier life with the people I love, so I decided to join back up to see if the videos and team members could help me yet again on my struggles. Hello fellow Sparklers.

Hello everyone, a newbie here, just RE-joined SP a couple of days ago and am excited about this new challenge. Though I have lost 6 pounds since Jan 1st as of today, so I'll take it. Really trying to recommit myself this year and lose this weight that I've been struggling with since my son was born 5 whopping years ago lol.

I lost 25 lbs 3 years ago and eventually gained it all back and then some. My biggest struggles are emotional eating, and high stress related to work.

Hoping to get a clearer understanding of how to lose weight in the best way possible and how not to beat myself up when I have a setback.

Glad to be here!

Hello everyone!
My name is Sunny, and while this isn't the first time I've tried to lose weight, I hope it will be the last. I finally feel ready to change my lifestyle, instead of just looking for quick fixes that always backfire.

A little about me:
I'm 25 years old, and a recent college graduate. I'm a lifelong resident of southern California, and I'm also married to my high school sweetheart and love of my life, Tim. We've been together for 9 years (as of Valentine's Day), and married for almost 2 (our wedding anniversary is April 2nd). We're looking to start a family in the near-ish future, and that has become one of my biggest motivators for getting in shape! I want to be able to keep up with my kids when they're running around having fun, not sitting on the sidelines, out of breath.

So that's me in a nutshell! I look forward to chatting with all of you and seeing everyone's progress in the future!

Hi All,

I'm new to this whole sparkpeople forum thing but I thought what the heck let me give it a try because I know I may need some virtual motivation. My journey began 3 days ago and I'm excited and nervous at the same time, excited to finally do the work to get the body I want and nervous because I want to make sure I stay committed (with the food tracking and exercise). My goal is to lose 10-13 lbs and tone my back and arms. So wish me luck and good luck to everyone!

Welcome Y'all emoticon

Great attitudes!! Yes we are all on this journey together. So much easier than walking it alone emoticon

For me, I found that once I started feeding my body good healthy foods, that I had more energy. I found that with more energy, I had more desire to exercise, or at least to move more, play more, not necessarily structured exercise emoticon It all counts when you are moving. And it all adds up to.

But anyways, I had to get a grip on my carbs and cravings first - cut out the fast food, processed foods, sugars - this journey is 80% nutrition I have been told. Great Abs start in the kitchen. emoticon

Again Welcome! emoticon

Hihi folks! I have always liked these groups where people who start at about the same time stick together. We may not have a lot in common overall, but we're in the same stinkin' place for the moment.

So, ah, I'm a 30-something divorcee with a bunch of weight to lose (according to some, I should lose half my body weight. I try to imagine myself cut in half and, well, it just seems awfully messy). I have a tweenage child-person who lives with me and occasionally drives me to Batsville, population: lunatic. I like watching NHL games, enjoy reading mystery/thriller books and watching similar types of shows.

My major goal is really to improve my fitness (I'm not sure if I even have any of this "fitness" stuff) and eat more healthfully. The actual number on the scale is of secondary importance.

Please feel free to become a friend or arch-nemesis! Best of luck to us all. :)

Howdy!!

I haven't really yo-yo'ed. I just avoided it all together. Diet is a dirty four letter word, and I never wanted to start it.

But when I decided that I wanted to get healthy, and I wanted to make permanent lifestyle changes, something clicked. So I have never thought of it as a diet, not as something that I am on anyways. There are certain foods "in" my diet and not in my diet, but I am not "on" a diet. Therefore I have never once thought about quitting. It just is not an option. That does not mean I am always perfect, but I am always conscious of all my decisons and if it is a special ocassion and I have a special treat, I accept the consequences of my choices.

Anyways, you really can do this. emoticon

Hello SparkPeople! I'm Kat, recently 34, single, and I'm very happy to be here! I have a LOT to loose, a LOT to gain and I look very much forward to being part of the community! emoticon I am an excellent supporter, but find that I really push back on support which is not what I need to be doing. I'm approaching my 1st anniversary as a non-smoker and I think it's time to deal with this weight. About 5 years ago I lost over 100lbs, but a combo of injuries and life events sent me back to the sedentary life and right back to square one.
I'm a blogger by nature, and an underemployed freelance writer by trade looking to get back to health while doing all that and going back to school. :-)
Oh... I've recently discovered a passion for healthy cooking, and hope to become more herbivore than omnivore too, but all in good time.
I am very excited to be here! emoticon Please don't hesitate to contact me, it may take a day or two before I dive into everything while I figure it all out.

Thanks to GOPINTOS for already adding me and welcoming me to the group!

"Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!" Looking to keep my larger than life attitude without actually being... you know... large.

Hi everyone! My name is Heather and I'm a 33 year old mother of 4 children ages 12, 11, 6 and 4. I have been unemployed for the past 13 months (hopefully that will change soon) after being laid off of my job that I had for 6 1/2 years. I'm currently in school to become a registered health information technician.

I have been heavy my whole life and at my heaviest (2 years ago) I was 420lbs. I'm starting out now at 338 pounds. I don't have a hard and fast long term goal, other than to be healthy and be around for my kids and hopefully one day my grandkids. :)

Hello! Last year my New Year resolution was to quit smoking with my husband. Done! This year we need to shed the excess around our middles. I have tried on my own in the past and have failed. It would appear that losing weight is harder than quitting smoking. But I know I can do it, I just have to keep at it!

Hello. My name is Jody. I live in southwest MN. I recently turned 50 and I'm ready for some changes. I've already been exercising regularly for about one month. Now I'm ready to start paying more attention to the food side of things. I've been watching older seasons of the Biggest Loser episodes for inspiration to exercise. If people that big can exercise....well so can I! My boys are 14 and 10. I love to sing, read and I'm just learning how to knit! I look forward to meeting you all and being inspired.

Hi Margaret! Welcome Back! It WILL stick this time!! I am certain you can do this!

It is a lifestyle, not something we are on short term. We have to make changes towards a healthier lifestyle, it has to be for the long haul, and weight loss can be a nice bonus of getting healthier emoticon

Great goal!

Tracking at Spark really was key for me. Before that, I was trying to track on my own, but not making any progress. Spark was a game changer :)

Good luck and welcome!

Hello!
My name is Elizabeth, I'm 23 and a Mom of 2 boys. I joined SparkPeople to track my progress. I've been a couch potato since the holidays :( I'm done watching my muscle tone go down and my weight go up. I'm getting back to getting into shape. I plan on running a Spartan race in December and the training begins now.

Hi I'm Tulip (at least that's what everyone calls me). I gained over 30 pounds while on 60 mg of Prednisone for 6 months and want to lose it again. Sparkpeople has kept me focused in the past and I'm hoping for success once again.

Help me get to 70,000 steps this week. Join me on Fitbit www.fitbit.com/user/26T84Y
