Hi! I'm new to this team as of a few minutes ago after spotting it on VJH-W65's page, and I immediately found two already-friends, MOVEITMARY and VICKI-B-IN-FLA. I think this is a great idea for a team; that's exactly what I intend to do in 2014.

Me: I'm approaching 60th BD, married nearly 40 years, staff to three cats. I've lost 8 lbs since 1/1/14--actually 9, but one came back :-(

New to this team This year I will NOT
let go of my set goals and skills
All my life I set a skill for each year
A year of Spritz cookies,
a year of soups,
a year of bread,
a year of salad dressings,
a year of exercising my internal compass
I tend to do well when I set goals and skills for myself
I had 6 massive strokes in 1981-82,83,84,85,& 86
each stroke more difficult to recover from
after the second one I never totally recovered.
All could have been prevented if I had demanded that my warnings get attention.
I did not they did not and here I am a half paralyzed 66 yo Indiana hippo
SP are my inspiration and encouragement.

Hello. I'm Dee from Oregon. I live with my husband of 57 years and our 6 fur children, 3 dogs and 3 cats. Actually, the cats belong to other people but they live with us and we take care of them. Chloe is our silver mini poodle, age 10; Grizzly is our baby boy, a beautiful Pomeranian 3 years old. And Bogey looks a lot like a mini pin but he's actually a deer Chihuahua and is 14. He was our grand dog for many years but just last year came to live with us as we can provide more for his needs.

I'm headed out the door in two minutes to Salem (20 miles) for a baby shower honoring the coming birth of Eleanor Marie, our DGGD.

Hi all and happy new year!

I saw in the SP Cafe that OBIESMOM2 became team leader & I knew it would be a great team to join!

I'm Jan and married with 2 sons in their 20s and currently work full time. I also have a 2 year old German Shepherd who's my baby girl and workout buddy. I live in New England and love it here, even if it is freezing today.

I joined SP in January of 2012 and have reached some of my goals here thanks to the support of SP friends, and my baby girl who got me off my butt walking a few miles every day. Now I'm even running (or trying to run) with her every day. Of course, she's much better than I am, but I'm a work in progress.

Hope to be able to give support & motivation, and maybe get some in return!

Nice to meet you Elaine! I am job hunting too, and here in Escondido, Ca the jobs can be hard to come by too. Or it's just the opposite, most of the companies just want to hire a temporary person part time so that they can get away with giving them low wages and no benefits.

Hi! I'm Elaine from Malaysia! I've been maintaining at the same weight for a very long time (slightly more than 4 years), then, BOOM! I gained about a kilo! Time to stop being complacent and get off this darn plateau!

I aim to get at least 20lb off by the end of this year (2014)! I'm a dialysis patient looking for a part-time job or something I can do from home. I'm still looking! The unemployment rate for IT grads is very alarming in this country. Seems there are just too many of us, and I'm talking people without any chronic illnesses. As someone who's chronically ill, I have even less chances of securing a job, even a part-time one! Because every boss here seems to want full-timers!

I'm in my early 40s with a huge belly problem! (well, at least it looks huge to me! lol!).

Hi all, I am Janette Mahnken, I am 53 yrs old, I live in Escondido, CA with my boyfriend and his son that is turning 9 yrs old this month. I have a dog that is 6 yrs old that I adopted when she was a puppy, and we just recently adopted another puppy. I have been on Spark People since last May, I started at 170 and I just recently got down to 150. But the last few months I have been bouncing up and down a little. This morning I am at 151.1, but last night at midnight I was up to 154. I belong to several different groups in here and I am a co leader of the Wii Fit Plus Team in here. Hi, I'm Vicki and I'm a size where it's hard for me to do things I need or want to do. So I've joined a fitness center with my hubby and we go 3 days a week. I'm hoping to regain lost energy and get to the point where I don't cringe when I look in the mirror. I am a wife of almost 35 years and I have 3 kids { 30, 28, 24 } and so the 2 oldest are out on there own and the 30 year is my baby of the family he is married & has been for almost 4 years and then my youngest is my DAUGHTER she is engaged w/ no date as of yet but ah she is still here at home with us ... Hey, everybody! My name is Stefanie, and I have 17-22 lbs to lose by this Summer. I have already lost about 40 lbs prior to SparkPeople, but I've come here for some motivation. I'm also very open to giving advice and suggestions, so hit me up! :D Losing this last amount of weight has been really tough, and I hear that it gets harder as you age. I'm about to turn 20 in April, so I'm going to take care of this NOW. I've just been yoyo-ing for QUITE a while now (I'm talkin' a few years..); however, I've got a cousin's wedding to attend in June, so I plan to look fabulous upon arrival. ;) Also, being thinner would be a great gift to myself by my birthday in April. So long, unorganized story short . . .

Goal: Lose a total of 17-20 pounds
-By June (for my cousin's wedding)
-Be thinner by my birthday in April

*I also plan to get a complete makeover with a cute pixie cut and new wardrobe. Can't WAIT!

I just signed up. I am turning 60 on January 29. I feel really good that I went from 157 to to 140 in the last year. I can run 3 miles easily, have started building up my muscle tone again, and most important - brought my blood pressure and blood sugar levels into the normal range. In the last couple of weeks, I've been slipping a little:

Thank you for starting this challenge. I look forward to checking in with other people who are also focused on some short term goals.

My goals for the next 10 days (through January 1) are to:

a) be physically active
b) eat within a reasonable calorie limit (ideally, 1200 per day, but I want to be realistic)
c) be conscious and proactive about eating, without feeling deprived
d) stay within a 1-2 lb. range of my lowest weight (I am up about 4 pounds, and would like to turn this around ASAP).

Hi, I'm Andrea. I don't have too much more to loose but I'm so scared about the holidays because of all the food surrounding me! I eat gluten free because of celiacs, and now my mom and other relatives like to give me food and there's just so darned much of it and it's so expensive! I would like to keep going with my regular weight loss (about 1lb a week) and try to keep up with my cardio and strength routine.

Hi everyone!
I'm joining a bit late, but I trying anything to keep myself accountable around the Holidays.

My name is Zoé, I'm from Montréal suburb, in Québec. I joined SP last january, so I'm approaching my first year here and I would like to celebrate at least 55 pounds lost.
This mean losing 6 pounds between now and january 5th. I'm sure I can do it.
I live with my boyfriend and two little female cats.
I mostly do elliptical and cardio workout I find online.

With my sister, we created an advent calendar to stay focus before christmas but I know the hard part will be between dec. 24th and jan. 2nd.

My plan is to eat right when I'm at home, try to do ig workout when I can, and on days when I'm visiting my family, try to not over eat and fit some little workout, like a walk.

My name is Lauren. I live in Colorado with my husband and 3 kids. I'm working at losing 8-10 pounds and getting into better shape. Sparkpeople looks like a great resource, and this group seems like a good place to get off to a strong start over the holidays.

I love to hike, bike, walk, run, dance, and do just about anything outdoors, but often don't make time to do it. I also like to cook, and have been transitioning to a more plant-based diet, but I tend to slip back into old habits when life gets busy. I need to get some good, solid habits!

Hello, My name is Janine and I live in upstate NY. I am a mother of 4 My oldest is 23 and I have 2 in college and my youngest is 15. I have been married for 26 years. I have been over weight most of my life and have just recently decided I needed to do something so I will be around for my kids and grandkids (if I get any). I have tried sparkpeople many times and I do great for a few months then something happens and I stop. This time I want it to be different. I am trying to find a close knit team in which I can get support since I am doing this on my own. My goal is to be under 200 by the end of the year so that is 4 pounds. I would love to be lower but I also want to be realistic and not to be disappointed.

I have about 95 lbs to lose to reach my goal but am working on 5 lbs at a time. It sounds like losing 5 lbs is a lot more manageable than saying I need to lose 95 lbs. I lose weight very slowly and I yo-yo a lot, but I really want this weight off.
I've tried a number of different plans but I think for me it's a matter of cutting calories but making the most of what calories I do allow myself. So I'm trying to eat more fresh produce and fruits, and limiting all the junk foods. I do eat meat but am working to cut out a good portion of that and limit it to mainly fish and chicken.
My exercise is sporatic at the best. I'll go days and not do much then for a week or two go crazy with activities that are considered exercise. I need to get more into a regular routine of daily exercise that I enjoy doing.

Hi, my name is Marilyn. I am married with a 34 year old son and a 16 year old daughter. I live in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. It is hard for me during the holidays to eat properly; maybe if I could give up chocolate then that might help. I would love to lose 40lbs but I would take a loss of 10 over the holidays. I haven't been working out much the past couple of weeks due to the fact that I have had a nasty stubborn cold hanging on to me. I am going to try and do some strength exercises this week. Also, I have to start putting out my Christmas decorations. Christmas is my favorite holiday. Happy Holidays To All. emoticon

Hi everyone! Thanksgiving down, December to go lol

My target month is June 2013 and I'd like to keep it that way. It was March, then April, then May...
I started at 180 and need to get down to 135 to be in tip top condition. My body needs to be the best it can be:)

My name is Julie and I live in Kansas City. I am married with two teenagers. I am an accountant but have a part time job at the library that I really love. I do lots of volunteering, also.

I work out at Curves four times a week and enjoy riding my bike. I just reached my goal of riding 1200 miles this year. There is a trail near my office that I use most days on my lunch break and I have started running on it. I couldn't go very far at all at first but I am up to about half a mile now. I have set a goal to run/bike a Duathlon in May (2 mile run, 12 mile bike ride, then 3 mile run). I love to exercise and find eating healthy to be my biggest challenge. I love to eat healthy food but am an emotional eater and am working on trying to find other ways to manage my stress than eating. I plan to lose ten pounds by the end of the year.

Hi everyone my name is Marcy. I'm from Utah close to Salt Lake City. I am a florist. I have 4 kids 2 have moved out. I'm not married but in a serious relationship with a wonderful man. I would love to loose 8 lbs through the holidays. I have have done well with spark people in the past. I love to walk but just found out I have bone spurs. Not to much fun. So now I'm trying to find new exercises I can do. I just bought a stationary bike. It kills my legs. I'm hope it gets better with time.

Hi! I live on the Oregon Coast. I am a linguist and I do educational consulting from home via the internet. I am 37, single and do not have any children.

I am an exercise fanatic and I love to dance. I also enjoy arts, crafts and Latin music. I do Zumba, lift weights, do gym-based cardio, run intervals and swim at least three miles a week. I love to get outdoors and walk, especially on the beach, but that's pretty much impossible in the winter where I am--it rains really hard here and it is very windy.

Most of my weight gain was due to a series of very serious health problems which started when I had a brain anerysm eight years ago. I put on 100 pounds. I now have more than 80 of that off again, but it has been quite a struggle because I didn't have terrible habits to begin with. I've also had major surgery twice during the weight-loss process, which was a challenge.

I would love to get down to the next 10-pound mark by Christmas. For me, that is 210 pounds. Yes, I am very tall!

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

Hi everyone! My name is Heather and I'm a 34 year old SAHM to four boys, ages 12, 10, 4 and 2. After moving several times for my husband's job we finally settled in Pennsylvania and hope to be here for a very long time. I joined a gym about a month ago with my friend and we have been doing CrossFit. It's been going well and it motivates me to eat well since I don't want to waste all of the work I put in during our morning workouts! lol

Hi there!

I am just starting exercising and tracking again after a 9+ month break while I was pregnant & my baby was just born. He's 6 months old now and I am finally trying to lose quite a lot of extra weight I gained during pregnancy. I have 3 other children too. I have been on sparkpeople for 4 years now and had success in the past. I want to finish this year out strong and I would love to lose 10 lbs to start 2013 out right :)

Hi - my name is Debi and I live in northeast Ohio. I work in accounting (bore - ing) and take classes at night to get my accounting degree / MBA; but that's my job. I love to scrapbook and make cards. I am an encourager by habit and my creative outlet allows me to encourage others and gives them something beautiful to look at too. I am rarely depressed and when I start feeling that way, I remind myself that I am Saved, happy, financially solvent, I have a roof over my head, and I have great friends....and then the issues of the day don't seem so depressing after all.

I am trying to lose weight so that I can walk well again. I shattered my ankle about 12 years ago and though I was put back together, things have not been right since. Since I keep breaking more bones, the ankle is really getting hard to walk on for any distances. I am a candidate for ankle replacement surgery, but I need the weight under or around 190# because the equipment they will install cannot handle higher weights. One thing I am very glad about is I am not on any DIET, I am learning to make food modifications so I can still eat all my favorite stuff, just at the right time and in the proper amounts.

I love SparkPeople, I wish I had found you'll 20 years ago! I am very interested in your stories; both your joys and your challenges. Very few people I've met through this on-line group doesn't encourage me in some way.

So let's do this and keep off the extra pounds (an even loose some) during these holidays! I'll help you and you can help me keep accountable too.

My name is Sheila. I live in Northern Virginia, between Washington, DC & Richmond, VA. I have lived in the same town my whole life. I am a Legal Assistant for the Federal Government. November 17th marks my 25 year anniversary as a Federal Employee. I am the oldest of 5 & my youngest sibling is 20 years younger than I am (& we all have the same parents, who are still married after 43 years).

I'm not expecting to lose 10 pounds over the holidays. If I lose 1 or 2 I'll be happy, but I have some time off coming & will have more time to exercise, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I will start, my name is Lisa, I live in Northwest Indiana (not too far from Chicago). i would love to lose 10lbs over the Holidays, and I know I can, it will be so exciting to see Family members I only see once a year and I'll be 10lbs down, and start off the new year in a smaller size. Also for me when I lose another 10lbs, I will be 20 lbs down and I will be 40% to my overall goal. Very exciting!
