Hi Everyone,
Like my friend, Sunny, who started talking about Carb cycling on another team - I am not new to Spark People either and have had some celebrations but more disappointments. I have been struggling with losing and gaining the same pounds on again-off again for the last year. It has been so very frustrating!

Sunny has been talking about Carb Cycling and it seemed like something I could try to do, and after chatting with Sunny on our team for a few days I thought, "Why not give something different a try?" "What I've been doing is no longer working for me." So I decided to start trying to cut back on my carbs - that's all. I was struggling with keeping my carbs below 75 per day even thought SP recommended between 150 and 200 per day for me! Then I did some research on the internet to help with menu planning and meals, and as I did this program made more sense. With those recipes I started my low carb journey.

I have been at this for about 10 days now, and I got on the scale this morning for the first time in a week, and I have lost 6 pounds. emoticon Now looking at my physique, it seems it might all be water weight, but my clothes are not as tight as they were - so that's a NSV for me, as well as the BEST scale reading I've had in the past year! A lower number is a lower number! Those facts alone have convinced me to stick with this.

I am glad to have found this team, and look forward to getting to know you, sharing information, gaining wisdom from you all, as well as recipes (I hope), and losing the weight I am wishing to lose. emoticon emoticon

Hello!

My name is Vanessa and I'm a seasoned Sparker and a veteran at starting over.

Recently I've gained an interest in carb-cycling but didn't know where to start so naturally I searched SP!

I'm glad to have found this group and honestly, haven't heard of Chris Powell till today. I'm glad to have found information that is detailed enough for me to get an idea of "how to" carb cycle and will be picking up the book soon.

I've lost weight before following the guidelines of the Abs Diet but am having trouble restarting this time around and was looking for something new.

Looking forward to "meeting" you all!

I too am starting over AGAIN... I started the carb cycling two weeks ago, started working out last week and am down almost 5 lbs! I'm excited because I know it's not water weight, I've been drinking between 84-110 ozs of water daily(running to bathroom every half hour!) and I am starting to feel my clothes are looser! Anyway, I'm excited about the changes and my husband is eating right n working out too so we are headed the right way, finally!! I look forward to getting to know you all!

Wow, you are off to great start! Hiking 12 miles in 2 hours is awesome, I don't think I could walk 5 five miles in two hours let along hike it, 12 miles seems like an impossibility to me at the moment... Keep it up!

I am not new to Spark People either and have had celebrations and disappointment. I do fine with the exercise but it has always been my diet that let me down. A friend told us about Carb Cycling and it seemed like something hubs and I could do. We have been doing it for two weeks and DH has lost 10 #'s. I lost 8#s then had to be away for a reunion. I notoriously don't do well when I travel so am looking to change this around.

Nice to meet you all and look forward to meeting you and loosing weight on this journey.

Hello ~ I joined this team a while back, left the team, and came back again. I am preparing to do the Turbo Carb Cycle starting 9/8.

One question though - On day 7, Reward Day, is considered a High Carb Day? As I type this I'm thinking yes, but just need clarification.

Thanks!

Hello! I am not new to SparkPeople but I have never heard of carb cycling before and thought I could try something new and see better results. Since this is new to me, I would like to hear how it works and the best way to get started from you "pros". I am hoping to see some differences with carb cycling. emoticon

Hello, fellow carb cyclers! I have been doing an informal carb cycling for the past week, but finally broke down and bought Chris' book as I'm finding that minimizing all those "hidden" carbs is more difficult than I had anticipated.

I maintain a pretty healthy lifestyle, eating mostly clean food, but found the pounds start to creep up on me as I near my Fabulous Forty. I do have what some people call "a lot" of food issues (allergic to shellfish, sensitive to dairy, I don't eat beef or pork, and was diagnosed as hypoglycemic this year), so I'm used to paying a lot of attention to what I eat.

As Alzheimers and dementia run in my family, I find it equally as important to stay physically active, as I've read studies showing that regular exercise can minimize the risk and severity of the disease. It is a horrific thing to watch someone you love live with Alzheimers and dementia, probably worse for the sufferer, and I want to avoid putting my family through those struggles with me as I age, if at all possible.

I'm looking forward to offering support to the team where I can be of value, and hope to lean you when I need it, as well!

What you do every day matters more than what you do every once in a while.

Welcome. I find his program very empowering and so far its my 35th day. I actually feel better and am moving more. I am trying to stay away from the scale as I become frustrated by the numbers. I haven't started the exercise part yet as I have limited mobility with my weight. But. I am now able to walk longer, go up and down the stairs and almost walked a mile the other day. Eventually I will be adding those to my plan. Welcome and good luck. emoticon

I'm officially starting Chris Powell's program tomorrow and am excited about the transformation that will take place over the next 6 months and beyond. Problem is, I was just as excited when I did Atkins back in the 90's, Weight Watchers in 2005 and 2013, as well as the Belly Fat diet and my latest adventure - the Paleo lifestyle. I've lost real weight, felt good, and then gained most of it back again. What makes Chris's program so different? Well, he hit the nail on the head in his Choose to Lose book - "YOU are the mind. Your machine, your body, is at your command." Chapter 5 in this book was a wake up call for me, someone who lets her feelings get the better of her every time. Chris is the first fitness guru to really touch on this empowering concept. It'll be a daily battle for a while, but even Chris acknowledges that much.

Hello Carb Cyclers! My name is Cyndi, I'm 42 and from Central Canada. I am on day 2 of carb cycling. I actually find it hard to get in enough calories - which is a nice problem to have! I am doing the turbo cycle for month one, and will decide what to do from that point on. I will venture into the 9 minute missions tomorrow if I get up on time!

Good luck all!

Cyndi

Although I have done Atkins years ago, I had never really heard of Carb Cycling before.

I have cut out all the stuff I love and it's ok for awhile, then I go nuts and eat a big bowl of pasta, or have some rice or mashed potatoes or whatever..........

So I thought, why not join a team and get the benefit of your experiences? And here I am....

So does anyone have any good starting points. Tips, tricks, books to read, ans the like?

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Ok so this has been an interesting 2 weeks I have found that even on my cheat days I can not eat whatever because it is a trigger. I will have to be careful what I eat I am not as ready as I thought as far as saying, " I can just have 1." that is a big lie! I need to get my mindset right and get it together it is going to be a process! But I will overcome this!

Hi, I just joined this group. I borrowed "Choose to Lose" from the library and have been trying it out since Saturday. I am hoping to learn more about the real life practicalities from the group as well as support and information. I have about 30 pounds to lose, I hope this will help.

Well welcome. I know what you mean- I've done a low carb plan before too. This is definitely nicer, and it works well!
Wow! 12 miles- they sure did trick you! I bet that burned some major calories. Looking forward to hearing about your first weigh in after being on the plan a week.

Hi Everyone....I'm Michele (Chele) I found this team on Saturday and got excited to start but forgot to join. I started on Monday and it has been pretty easy I have done several low carb but this has been the easiest. I am extremely excited to be on this team........My 1st new thing I did was hike I've never have done it before but my friend and the boys I work with tricked me and what I thought was the easy Mountain happen to be the hard mountain. Needless to say I ended up Hiking about 12 miles which took 2 hrs. I wanted to give up and find a easy way to get down to the bottom...but I hung in there......

If your cheat day is Thursday then you'll be weighing yourself next Wednesday morning, I take it? I'm thinking that will be the morning after a low carb day for you anyway. Yes, the fluctuations are no fun, so why do that to yourself, right? :)

Doing the cheat day today and we'll see if that helps. Good idea to weigh only once a week. Otherwise the daily fluctuations are depressing.

That's great you're done 4.5 the first week. That's how it went for me my first week.
Chris would say that a full cheat day (five meals, and the food of the day totaling about 1000 calories more than you usually take in during the week) is necessary to trick your metabolism.
That is nice your hubby lost four pounds the first two days. It was likely water weight though. I know Chris says to only weigh yourself once a week because your body holds in water when you have starches on high carb day, for instance- and there are various reasons besides that- so it's just good thinking to weigh yourself the day after a low carb day (so you're not holding in water).

I'm so sorry no one answered you about this. I don't really know the answer, so that's why I didn't. I'm allergic to eggs. I would say, though, that whatever is the amount of egg substitute that equals at least 12 grams of protein would be the way to go.

I just started one week ago and I'm down 4.5 lbs so far, although I didn't get the book until day 3 and I'm still a little confused as I have the original book and it doesn't talk about the turbo cycle, so I'm trying to do the 2 LC and 1 HC. I didn't do a full cheat day. My DH is doing this with me and he lost 4 lbs the first 2 days and then has stayed the same since. Not sure why that is happening. Hopefully by tomorrow he is down again.

HI I am a carb cycle newbie, I just finished reading Chose to Lose and
I'm very excited to try something new. I am a little confused with one thing,
the food list for protein lists egg substitute as 1 cup but then it says your
portion size at a meal is 3 oz of protein. So I guess I am just having 3 oz of
egg substitute?

I am starting at Day 1 today also. I'm very excited that this might work well for me. My job is M/W/F - so I think that will solve the "which day am I on" problem. LOL I have been trying to decrease soda and increase water for about a week now and also working on moving more. I have been giving up the bread and I actually feel better and have more energy. My hubby is even supportive too. He's not going to do exactly this but he is going to support me - that's a BIG change!

I want to leave myself a little note here (like they do on Biggest Loser): To the future me, I know you can do this! If you get a little down or mess up, just come back here and see where you started. Show yourself some love! Get off those stinkin' meds! No more meds - that's the goal! Learn to Hula.

Meal 2 down. It's weird eating a sandwich with lettuce instead of bread! LOL

No more meds! Learn to Hula!

Hi! Looks like we're all in the same boat here! Day 1 for me and I'm ready. I've tried everything else but can never get past the first week. This time, I'm going to be more vigilant with logging in and staying on track. I just finished reading the book and it seems very reasonable and makes sense. Breakfast done.....check! Now, off to lace up the sneakers! One hour at a time today. emoticon

Welcome to the team Meg. I just posted on the daily motivation forum that I just got a bunch of vegetables to make a big batch of soup (some of which i freeze). My last batch and the way I usually make it is with various beans and carrots, but this time I am omiting them in order to be able to eat this soup everyday. I find that if I am not feeling satisfied, a bowl of veggie soup helps.

Have a gret day!

Welcome Meg...there are not a lot of active users here! If you do FB there are a lot of active pages if you just search carb! I am here for you if you need me. I am finding carb cycling to be pretty painless and easy...it would be a heck of a lot easier if I could get away from tracking numbers...sigh!

Hello. I'm from East Texas. I've started and tried many things to lose weight. I haven't been able to stick with most things more than a day or two. I'm diabetic and lots of carbs are bad for me. My husband is naturally thin and gained 15lbs a year ago all in the belly despite being a bicycler. He found ketogenic diet and is a true believer. I can't repeat can't stay on that way of eating for more than 3 days. I've tried repeatedly. I feel awful on the 3rd day. I want to lose weight, get my blood sugar to the normal range, to make my triglyceride programs go away, and have a baby.

My husband of 5 years is exhaused with me trying diets. He asked in a down beat tone "What makes this different"? I don't know honestly. I guess its because I don't have to write it down, or count anything. I thing other programs I have to super analyse everything (calories, carbs, bg, exercise minutes, etc). With the Cycle I have my palm, fist, thumb as a guide. Yes I have to be conscious of my water intake but I need over a gallon of water for my intake. One jug a day. I think I can handle that.

I'm here because I need a support team like the book says. I have 2 people that are sort of trying. My people close to me are tired of me I think. I can't give up though. My living really depends on this.

Do you think any of you all could be my friend and support?

Thanks,
Meg

Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

I'm back! I completely fell off the wagon from Thanksgiving to Christmas (and gained almost 20 lb!) but I've been back on plan since 1/2. I lost 3 lb the first week and 3.4 this week. And aside from fighting this bronchitis crap I feel so much better when I eat the right way. You'd think I'd learn that eating crap is a bad idea.

Thanks Michelle! SO far the day is going well and I have my husband participating as well. Eating every 3 hours is part of my challenge... but It is going better than I thought.

Hi Corrin,
If you've read the book then you know you need a carb for breakfast (not fat on low carb day) but otherwise low carb day is your two fists sized portions of veggies, fist sized portion of protein, and your fat for each meal. You know on high carb day you don't eat the fat, but have a root veg, fruit or grain per meal along with your veg and protein. If you're doing classic or turbo then you'll have to choose a reward day, and it does work, eating 1000 calories over what you normally do on carb cycling, and then weighing yourself at the end of the following week.
Feel free to ask any questions. :)

Hi, I'm Corrin and tomorrow I am starting my first week of Carb cycling. I read the book and went to the store today. I plan on repairing food tonight for at least tomorrow. I am really hoping that this works and is a plan that I can follow. I know my aunt eliminated white flour and sugar and lost a ton of weight. I am hoping it will work for me too!
Any suggestion to get started?

I just completed my first day (low carb) and so far so good. I agree with some comments I have seen here that the plan 'rules' are not as clear as they could be - but I am just going to go with it and hope for some great results.

Hi All!
I am just starting out - today is day 1 for me. I read the book, completed my major Christmas celebrations yesterday, and am ready to go. I chose the 'easy plan' to start with. I have been working on losing weight for a long time, and am optimistic that this plan will work for me. Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Yay, almost a normal BMI, how cool is that?!
Yes, slingshot week is known for such, so you have a great attitude. Just wait another week and see what you've lost because of the metabolism reset, right? :)
That's great you did that half marathon. I think you're right that weight plays such a huge role for running. I have never liked running, but think for me it is partly my weight so I told my husband that when I get to goal weight I'm going to try it again since he loves it so much. ;)
I think it's great you enjoy it and can do it so well!
When you lost the weight before, did you have the muscle you have now though? You might look quite different if your body decides it does want to go under 155.
Woohoo- terrific that you're so seeing how carb cycling works for you.

I have been doing Turbo but I started with the Classic. My weight is FINALLY going in the downward direction for the first time in a long time.
As of this morning I am ALMOST in a normal BMI. Same as last week. I just completed the slingshot week. Looks like I am looking at about a 1/2 pound weight gain. Pretty good if you ask me.

Last Sunday I ran a half marathon on a whim and placed second in my age division with a finish time of 2:20:16. Weight plays a huge role for running. This would be exciting in itself but my muscle mass is almost to 30% and my body fat is at 25%. Both of those numbers are what is really exciting. I have gained muscle and lost fat in addition to losing some weight.

My normal BMI is 163lbs or less. I have a larger frame so when I am 155lbs I look quite thin. I am goaling for 155lbs. I have weighed 149lbs and my friends asked me if I had an eating disorder, so not such a good look for me. ;-)

This way of eating really works for me.

Hi RENM099,
So which plan are you going with? Where you get rewards more frequently or are you just saying you're glad to have carbs every other day or so? Sounds like the more frequently.
I'm glad you found something that works for you. I think it helps that he says that we can always say that we can't have that now but we can have it tomorrow (if that's the plan for you- for me, I have a reward day and if it's a dessert, it would have to wait 'til Sunday- which I've gotten quite used to! So with that said, I think you'll figure out the holidays.
I know for me I am doing turbo, but for Thanksgiving week I'll switch to classic so that I can have some carb for the meals. I'll make sure I don't get over a cup worth of carb for the meal- but I'll savor what I do get is all. :) I can always save some for the next meal to savor too!
For me, my body has gotten into this mode where on carb cycling days I can picture the taste of the food someone else may be indulging in, and may have asked me if I'd like to, and realize that it's just too sweet for me, I'm glad that I can't have it that day -but of course I could have it on Reward day. Reward day is about what you want at the time though, so that thing might have to go into the freezer if I don't want it after all, lol!

Hi Ready2run74,
So you've read his whole book then?
I think everyone is nervous about cheat day! I usually add up to 1000 calories to the top amount of calories I've had for the week- but it sounds like most go with 2500 since you are supposed to eat 1500 or so on high carb days and up to 1000 more calories added throughout your five meals on Reward day.
Let me tell you that I indulged quite well with goodies on my first reward day (a Sunday), and by the next Saturday (day after low carb day as he says to do) I weighed in at five pounds lighter! I know it doesn't work that way for everyone- he does say it can take a couple weeks before you see changes, but I'm just saying that adding the 1000 calories does indeed tell your metabolism to get busy. So just weighing in the one day, to me is helpful, if you're going to be having a variety of goodies on reward day- otherwise you might not like what you see on the scale from reward day and get discouraged. It works! :)

I don't know how I didn't see your message (via email), so am sorry for the wait on the answer! I've been having major computer issues. I hope to get a different computer today.
I hope carb cycling is going well for you. Some people have to get used to the feeling of the low carb days, but some have to get used to the feeling of the high carb days!
Snacks? I'm not sure what you mean, because we're to have meals every three hours. Anything between is supposed to be a piece of sugar free gum or sugar free candy if we're craving. Low carb day you could have a tbsp. of nut butter if you're in need. That's what I recall from the book. Did that help at all?

I also saw the Women's World article and decided to give this plan a shot while recommiting to a healthy lifestyle. I lost a good amount of weight before by combining weight watchers and South Beach (which basically just meant I followed the simply filling technique, emphasizing veggies, fruit, and the like). Unfortunately, I couldn't stick to what I was doing because of cravings, gave up, and regained the weight over about a year. I'm almost done with my first week and it's going really well because carb cycling lets me indulge my love of carbs every couple of days, so it doesn't seem so onerous. Really hoping this will work for me longterm, but I'm nervous since we're so close to the holidays.

Good Morning everyone. I am on week 1 day 3 (high carb). I started SP about a month ago and lost almost 10 pounds with Slimfast but ended up eating everything in sight for a week and gained back all the weight plus more leaving me 4 pounds ABOVE my initial starting weight.. Ugh. Long Story short.. I saw an article on carb cycling in Women's World. Started reading it and it made a lot of sense. I downloaded his book and began on Sunday. I have done Atkins before with pretty decent results (until I started with the bars and shakes..)
so low carb is something I am OK with. I hope that with the HC days I can stick with this long term. I am nervous about the cheat day - how many calories is everyone eating? I know the book mentioned 2400but that number scares the crap out of me.

Hi Anne emoticon to the team! You should eat breakfast no later then 60 minutes of getting up....

Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day, and for good reason. There are a few reasons people don't eat breakfast in the morning such as not feeling hungry or to try and limit calories. However, skipping breakfast can lead to a number of problems when it comes to trying to lose weight and keep it off. If you are trying to achieve or maintain a healthy weight, consider the following reasons to eat breakfast each and every morning.

-It Revs up Your Metabolism

Eating breakfast is a great way to get your metabolism working well for the day. When your body receives food in the morning, it tells your brain that you're going to need to start working to digest it. This wakes up the system and warms up the metabolism so it's ready to work throughout the day. When you don't eat breakfast in the morning, your body thinks that it needs to conserve the energy it has because it isn't getting any more through nutrition. This actually slows your metabolism down, which results in a decrease in the amount of calories you burn all day long.

-It Keeps You from Binging

Not eating breakfast in the morning may save you calories for the time being, but it sets you up for failure throughout the rest of the day. This is because after not feeding your body for several hours overnight, a lack of food in the morning will leave you grumpy and hungry very early in the day. When lunch time rolls around, you're more likely to choose something high in fat and calories to satisfy your food cravings, because you feel so ravenous. If you can hold off through dinner, chances are you will feel an overwhelming urge to snack all night long, which can really pack on the calories.

-It Keeps You in a Good Mood

Feeding yourself in the morning will keep your spirits up throughout the day for a number of reasons. First and foremost, since your body won't think that it's starving after a nutritious meal in the morning, it's easier to get in a good mood and stay that way. It also provides plenty of needed energy to help you get through the regular tasks of your day, which can help keep your mood bright and optimistic. A healthy meal in the morning can also help to regulate your blood sugar levels through lunch time, which plays a vital role in your mood.
Overall, eating something for breakfast is better than eating nothing at all. The more balanced your meal is, the better off you will be. Instead of a breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast that will leave you feeling heavy and sluggish within just a few minutes, consider having a fruit smoothie and a bowl of oatmeal topped with fresh berries, which will invigorate your body and give you the energy needed to get through the day.

And as for your exercise....keep on doing what your doing as long as you are pushing out of your comfort zones and pushing as hard as you think you can...or buy a heart monitor just to make sure...the change will happen! Your doing great!!

Welcome to the team!

Atkins was actually the first foreray into the low carb world for me. You actually do not have to use processed anything to do that plan. In fact, it's not really recommended. People use them in tight spots occasionally, but not used as regular parts of meals, and some use them all the time because it doesn't affect their losses. I learned how to eat lots of veggies doing that plan and am thankful because it's helped doing carb cycling! I ate more veggies on LC than any thing I've ever done before.

Best of luck to you, I think you'll really enjoy the plan!! emoticon

Hi ~

My name is Ann. I just downloaded Chris Powell's book and started going through it this morning. I've been fighting with this extra weight for a long time and am ready to get it off once and for all. I've been thinking about Adkins, but don't like the idea of all the processed foods (shakes, dinners & bars). Chris' plan is something I can stick with. I do have a couple questions though.

1. Do I have to eat within 30 minutes of waking? I'm up at 3:00am and exercising by 3:15am. That is a little early for me to eat.

2. Do I have to follow his exercise routine? I typically do Leslie Sansone videos as well as Turbo Jam & Turbo Fire.

I am new to carb cycling, I am still reading Chris Powell's choose to lose and I am excited to start but have a question about the high/low carb days. Is there certain about grams of carbs not to exceed for high day and low carb day. Thanks you for all your input and help. Angela

Hi all - I started Chris Powell's carb cycling plan on Sept 29 & have lost 9.6 lbs since then. I'm not quite half-way into my 3rd week. So far, so good. Wanted to find others doing the same plan & found you in an internet search so I joined SparkPeople today so I could join all of you. I lost 9.1 lbs before I started carb cycling which shows in my weight loss ticker.

Hello there! I'm just starting Chris Powell's carb cycling and found this lovely group. I started carb cycling yesterday - I didn't want to wait until Monday! I actually enjoyed the low carb day yesterday, and am really enjoying the high carb day today. I'm hoping to lose 30 pounds in the next 90+ days (I'm taking a week off for a vacation). I was really inspired when I watched my first episode of Extreme Weight Loss, so I bought Chris' book. Now I'm doing it and crossing my fingers that I get awesome results!

Thanks for the response today. I am going to start the classic plan tomorrow for real. I have played around with the diet all weekend.

Tomorrow is my low carb day! I can do this and I am so thankful to find this group on Sparkpeople.

Welcome to the group. I've been here not even three weeks now. :)
The only book of his I've read is the second one, but I have heard only the classic plan is in the first book, and that he has you do ten minute missions. The second book you have more plan choices and the missions are 9 minutes long.
That's cool you tried low carb and did fine with it.
Today is my reward day so tomorrow is my low carb day. I'm doing the turbo plan. It's my third week on it. Next week I'm to do the slingshot where it's high carb each day and a reward day Sunday.
No, I don't follow my calorie plan when following the book. Not really. I just decided I would not worry what the tracker said if I'm not getting "enough" calories, according to it.
I know he said women should stay around 1200 on low carb days and around 1500 on high carb days.
Yeah, that app does sound confusing. Hm. I don't want to pay for those shakes either.
I do tend to start with my own shake. Fruit and veg and protein powder in water or almond milk (the lowest cal kind) is what I usually start with. Mixed in a nutribullet.
You'll figure it all out. Don't be afraid to keep asking questions. :)

TREESPLACE I would get his first book first as its the book that started it all...but if you could I would get both when you can as both books have great food lists and good tips to read. emoticon I bought both my copies at amazon. As for calories I use this site to tell me how many calories to consume in a day.... www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_ca
lc
ulator.htm
and I still when time allows it track my foods on sparks but when I can't I just mark my foods in a journal. emoticon

If you post what you had in your day for food I could help you out. You should always start off your carb cycle plan with a high carb day...on high carb days your raising your metabolism so on low carb days you will burn off body fat! And that is carb cycling!

HI, New to the group and thanks for the Sparkmail welcomes. I am reading the books, I checked them both out from the library to see what ones I would like to buy. I am leaning towards the newest.

Now I am on day 2 and survived yesterday just fine. I tried to use the phone App but I am not into buying the shakes as I can't afford that in my life at this time. In fact it was very confusing just telling me to have a shake for the first 1/2 hour of waking up. I love Sparkpeople but I use MFP on my phone as I can log for free. I have a fitbit too but can't figure out how to connect it to Spark again. I will try to figure it out.

Any suggestions, I think I am on a high carb day. Do you all follow your calorie plan when following the book? I really, really need to continue logging for my own mindset.

I think I will start FRESH tomorrow as it is Monday. But I don't think it hurt to play around with the plan yesterday. I did Low Carb and it was not to bad. Suggestions are welcome. emoticon

Sounds like you're ready for it! You'll definitely need to read the book to understand exactly what he wants you to do so you can fine tune exercise and what you're to eat. You also get to pick which of his plans he presents to lose weight by.
Welcome to the group. :)

Hello team, I just joined the group. I have not read the book yet but intend to asap. Lots of helpful information on this group page. I just spent some time adjusting me fitness and nutrition goals (which I'm sure I'll be fine tuning later). I have only just begun exercising. I have been a life long yo yo and fitness dieter... and have become very burned out. I've been eating healthy for the last long while, not tracking anything and not exercising with any real commitment. As a result, my weight has not fluctuated much the last year or so, but I am still over weight (probably 60 pounds). I guess I know how to "maintain" but this is not the weight I want to do that at! I recently have noticed a shift in my attitude about myself and making myself a priority. I think not having this heart commitment to myself is why I have never stuck with anything long enough to make a lasting difference and experiencing life at or near my goal weight. Ihave been undergoing some personal emotional healing. Now, out of the blue, I felt compelled to start a c25k program. I have been at it for 3 weeks and, although it is painful to do and probably worse to watch, I have been unwavering in my commitment. It truly is about ME this time. So, basically, I would like to slowly ramp up what I accomplish in my commitment to time dedicated solely to myself. I've been a paleo type dieter at one time and now I am basically a whole foods eater, so I don't think I will have to much tweaking to do (just essentially divide those two ways of eating between the hi and lo carb days). I guess I'll read the book to know for sure...

JA2010- hi emoticon on your weight loss...heres a little something that might help you understand low carb days.....What to expect on low carb days-you'll have decreased energy levels and body temperature, don't worry if you feel a tad tired and sluggish, your mind might even become a bit foggy at first, this is all normal because your body is not taking in high amounts of carbs, and its only temporary. Having high/ low energy swings from one day to the next only means your on the right track and your body is losing fat!! So your right on track!! emoticon

Congratulations on getting rid of 4 pounds this past week. Fantastic, isn't it?!
Yes, low carb days were getting hard for me last week on my first week of the turbo plan. I read what others have written this week and they recommend more protein. So I think I'll be adding more protein powder to my shakes and have 4 oz of meat instead of 3. Protein stays in your system longer- takes longer to break down, so it should definitely help with it. I also think I need to stop thinking only 2.5 tsp of fat (size of my thumb I figure)- I think I'll go with what Chris suggests for women and that's a whole tablespoon. Also, I'd like to use avocado for more of the fats- 1/3 a cup is about 100 calories so we can have that much for our fat in a meal, instead of the oil.
Have you thought of getting something like a nutribullet to make shakes with, using veggies?
How about making soup? Broth doesn't add much in the way of calories and so on so it's acceptable to use for that.
Yes, those 9 minute missions sure do start changing the body fast. I've only been on the plan for just over a week myself, but have read the book probably four times now, lol. If you'd like to ask for any help via spark mail/page/blog, I'd be glad to share what I can.

My slingshot week is over and I am ready for a LC day. I did pretty good all week until Friday night, but it was a planned overindulgence. We went out for my daughter's 17th birthday dinner and I had a little of the spinach & artichoke dip with dinner (I ordered grilled salmon and a baked sweet potato and it was yummy!) and a small piece of her Baskin Robbin's ice cream cake when we got home. Then yesterday should have been my last slingshot day but I completely blew it and ate like a crazy person. Today is my cheat day but I'm not feeling too well (I think we have a bug... ick) so I'm just going to take it easy and plan to start a turbo week tomorrow.
