Yep! A friend got me hooked a little over a year ago. Knitting is awesome.

Welcome!!! I get frustrated with the message boards on SP (overall I like the site because there are things about it that encourage slow, sustainable change and the exercise videos are pretty neat) and had been for a while so I wasn't being very active on them. Then I saw a thread where people much like myself were posting and jumped on the idea.

First of all, thanks for starting this team! A lot of teams are just to extreme for me. I wish I could be more excessive about something, but it's just not my nature. I was wondering today if SparkPeople was really for the kind of person I am......and now I see I'm not alone!!! I'm Darla and I'm very moderate as far as diet and exercise.

Hi! Smart idea to take the time to lose the weight and learn how to be healthy. We've all learned that quick fixes don't work.

I walk for most of my exercise too. I don't know what kind of phone you have but I use Nexercise (http://www.nexercise.com/) which lets you earn gift cards for tracking activity with it. I've gotten pretty far with it just from some nice walks. I will have to try Shopkick as well!

And you are right about eating habits. I want to lose weight but I don't just want to drop it for a few months or a few years, I'd like to be at a good weight for me for the rest of my life when I'm done.

WOW was my first MMO I have branched into others but I love gaming with my husband to be (we haven't married only because of finances). I also enjoy knitting and reading. :D Maybe I'm biased but you sound like a pretty awesome person.

Hi everyone... I was just reading the thread in the general board area and decided to join in. I too am a moderate. I don't like restricting what I eat, I eat healthy food about 80% of the time, but if I'm at a party or some function and there's cake... well darn it, I'm eating cake! LOL

I also don't go over board on exercising. I walk 4 or 5 days a week and I usually walk about an hour. My usual route takes me though the mall so I can gather my Shopkick points while walking past certain stores. Might as well get some points towards some free gift cards! woohoo

I'm not in a hurry to lose weight, but I do want to take the time to learn new eating habits and being more active. I know the weight will eventually drop. I feel that depriving yourself of everything you love will just make you binge on it later... so moderation is the key.

I'm 46, finally found my husband about 6 years ago. I have an 18 year old son who is ready to leave the nest as soon as the Air Force has a job opening for him. (he loves to tell me.. Mom, I have to eat 3000 calories a day as I'm an athlete... pft, darn kids). My husband and I like to play World of Warcraft (he's currently back in the Netherlands being treated for lung cancer... so that's how we spend our weekends playing online games together). I also enjoy making jewelry, knitting and reading.

Hope everyone is doing fine today!
Teresa
