Just came across this board - I rejoined SP the beginning of January 2013 This time around, I am definitely getting more involved with getting healthier. There is SO much on SP that I keep finding new things every day that I log onto the site. My name is Lynn and I'm a single parent of two girls and soon to be 51... Live in Iowa and work full time....studying to take the PHR exam in June so I'm trying to tackle a lot in these next couple of months.

Running a little behind here. I joined a few years ago and got off track. I am back and hope to start a healthier lifestyle. I had a stroke a couple of years ago. I had a carcinoid tumor on my stomach five years ago. The cancer has stayed away thank goodness. I am on cholesterol and blood pressure medicines. I hope I can get to a point that I don't have to take them any more.

I am retired. I have a wonderful hubby, two beautiful daughters and two precious grand daughters. Of course 2 sweet son-in-loves.

Hello everyone. I'm late as usual. I opened my Spark account the same week as all of you, but I really didn't get on board until February. My first goal is to be a healthier mom for my 8 year old son. My husband died last year of lung cancer and our child deserves to have a parent in his life for a long time to come. Like most of you I have dieted before and lost weight, fell off the plan and gained it all back plus more. This time, I'm not giving up. If I fall off, I'm going to get back on.

I've just been looking through your posts and see the weight many of you have lost since you joined, and I'm jealous thinking that could be me right now!

I'm Susan, 24, and from Texas! I've started a new me journey. I've finally gotten to the point where I'm ready to make a life style change. I don't know how I've gotten to where I am. I could blame it on my health problems, but that's only a small, small, small percentage of it. I take full responsibility for letting my weight go. So now I'm here to get it off! Hi, I am Lorie, retired and live in Northern California. I joined on Jan 4, sorry was slow getting here, so many things to do/read/write. I did do the 1st week goals, had already set them up on my tracker page, and was successful on water every day. I think I am starting to understand the teams, I really need supportive people with me on this journey and am willing to help others in any way I can. I came to Spark People after getting the cookbook and The spark for Christmas. I decided 2013 would be my year to learn how to live healthy and stay that way.

My wish for 2013: that everyone takes a moment each day to find inner peace and calm. This may not calm the storms of Mother Nature, however it may calm the storms that brew within us.

Hi! I'm Kate. I'm from Indiana. Just joined (for the 3rd time) on New Year's Day. This time seems different to me so far. I hadn't planned on joining like the two times prior. I'm very excited this time and am using the resources on this website more than in my past attempts.

I am 42, married and have two little boys who are 4 and 6. I have a few part time jobs that I juggle around my husband's schedule so I can be home with my kids.

This year is off to a great start for me. I'm not sure what my exact weight loss goal is. I have two major events this year that I want to look and feel better for - my 25th class reunion and a trip to Disney with my husband and boys.

I hope to get to know some of you.

My name is LaGonda. I was a member of SparkPeople 6 or 7 years ago. Discovered it when our school system did a Biggest Loser competition. Joined the competion because I got on the scales and weighed 202 pounds. Decided I did not want to weigh over 200. I lost 35 pounds in 12 weeks. Went from a size 18 to a size 8. At that time I worked out 7 to 8 times a week. Zumba, walking, strength training.

I eventually fell off the wagon and gradually gained weight back. Dieted off and on but just couldn't stick to it. weighed between 195 and 198. Never went over 200 though and I didn't go back up to an 18. It was funny. I went back up to a 14.

After being off from work this summer (I work for a schools system) I got on the scales and had gained some weight. Back up to 202. Started losing weight again. It has come off slower as it tends to do as you get older. ;) And it maybe because I am not really big into the exercising like I was. Either way it took me 4 months to lose 32 pounds.

Then Christmas break came along. I only gained back 2 pounds but I am having a hard time getting motivated to get back on the wagon. Thought I'd change it up a little and join back up on SparkPeople.

Ok that's the end of the first chapter of my novel. I apologize for the long windedness.

Hey guys,
I know I'm late, but the new year started crazy already, and with all the leftovers from new years, it was hopeless to start earlier. But well, here am I ready to start.

I'm not sure about you folks but at the end of my week one I am both happy to say I have lost two pounds and shocked to see how many calories a day I've been eating. Why this is a shock shouldn't really be since the weight reflects the input.Ya and then there is the exercise part okay so lifting a fork to my face does not count,to bad I'd be an olympian. So here we are I'm freaked out and excited to get my journey to health and to me. Also I'm learning computer skills here this is the first time I've been on a public forum yikes!! Looking forward to seeing how this works with time and getting to know others better. emoticon

I just joined today and I can totally relate to what you are saying about taking care of everyone but you. I am coming to learn that taking care of me is not selfish, it will make me a better wife and mother. If I am feeling better about myself, I am going to be more relaxed and more willing to do things the kids want me to do, or my husband wants me to do. Hello, I'm Kathy. I'm returning and recommitting to get healthy, active and fit. I am married, have 4 kids (11, 9, 9, 8) and teach high school math. So, I have little time to squeeze into my day, but am working on making small changes, adding in 10-15 minutes everywhere I can to get active and working on helping us all eat more nutritious meals.

Hi My name is Karen and I have just joined Sparkpeople.
I have tried every diet on the market, you name it, I've tried it, and yes... I always failed.
I have always tried to be a great mother and wife, tried to look after everyone, psychologically, emotionally and physically. Hoping my kids would grow up well rounded individuals and that my whole family felt loved and needed. Unfortunately, I suppose I forgot about myself somewhere along the line. By the time I took care of everyone else I never had the energy or the time to look after myself.
My family are fantastic. They alway tell me I am fine just the way I am, but I know Im fat, fatter than I have ever been. I look in the mirror and I really dont like what I see. Its very depressing and it makes you feel desperate.
Then one day while I was searching online for another miracle...... I came across the book "Sparkpeople" I cannot tell you how relieved I felt. I feel like I had finally found the one thing I have been looking for...other people who feel like I feel, people who need support, great tools and information. A place where you can express your feelings and have people who are going throught the same issues and struggles with their weight that I am. I feel like there is hope and that perhaps I can do this, because I don't feel like Im the only one anymore. Im actually looking forward to feeling part of something (selfish it may sound) but I think its time for me now.....Looking forward getting to know everyone!

Scroll your mouse while holding the button down over the 25 questions - this should highlight them in a different color. Go to the top of the page and find the word: EDIT. Click on that and choose COPY. Click on the reply button for that posting, and in the empty window click once then go back to EDIT but this time choose PASTE.

Hello everyone. My name is Sallee; I live in Thompson Station, Tennessee. I had good intentions in 2012 when I joined the first time; however, totally lost it with a house for sale (68 showings B/4 it sold!), a knee replacement, and settling the next house. So, we've met our goal of getting the inside turned around by the end of the year and will attack "the yard?" in the Spring. So, I'm challenging myself to establish healthy eating and exercise habits during the 1st quarter. i need to lose about 27# to give my knees a break and hopefully eliminate some of the meds I'm taking.

I am a positive, forward looking person. I feel like now that I have the decks cleared a bit, it's time to spoil myself.

Hi all.

I'm Cherry and I live in Southeastern Michigan. I've been on SP before, but really didn't have the time to devote to it. For the past 3 years I've been in school double full-time and working part-time, so anything regarding my health was pushed to the back burner.

But I just finished my student teaching, I have a bit more time now, and now that I've turned 30 I'm keen on making my 30s happier and healthier than my 20s. I figure I have at least 75 pounds to lose, so it'll be a long and difficult journey - but it's one that I'm sure will be worth it.

If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you.

hi to everyone I have been contemplating making life changes for along time now and know I need support doing this. My weight is at an all time high which is something I am not proud of, I've been using the nutrition tracker just tracking not filtering this week. It's been shocking to me how things add up I can see this is going to be a tool I can use to help me. I am also not computer savy have no idea what I'm doing right now except I hope joining a group that I can chat with,get inspiration from,and hopefully support as a buddy system. I work full time and am a mother with two kids aged 10 and 25 plus my husband. Look forward to chatting with you folks and learning new things for the new year. Happy New Year emoticon

Hey! It's a new year for me to stay on track. I need to track what I eat and how often I exercise. I am trying to keep the risk of needing more surgery down. I have congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Eating right and exercising helps lower the risk of adhesions. I play the drums and some lacrosse for fun. I used to play volleyball and still practice when I can. I try to invent new ways to stay active so I won't become bored. I cannot wait to get started on the new year with a new goal.

Well it's a new year and I am back on Spark after some time away. I canceled my old account that I created several years ago and created a new one. I' m in a completely different place in my life and wanted a fresh start. My username comes from my love of Disney, Donald is a favorite.

I' m a manager in a department store, so life is just calming back down after 6 weeks of utter chaos. I' m married, no kids, 1 furbaby.

I did really well in the fall on Spark, dropping from 302 to 268 pounds. Letting the craziness of the season distract me from my goals led to a 13 pound weight gain, but I'm getting right back on track!

Hello! My name is Amber. I'm about to turn 19 and I am finally ready to lose this weight I have so easily put on! I'm a college student at Creighton University and I want to use this odd numbered year for something extremely positive. I want to view myself the way every woman should! Hi! Hadra Priestess here.
I live in south central Tennessee and love it! I have not made time for myself for a long time and am now pledging to do so. I have come up with some strategies to help me, will depend on SP to help me make sense of the chaos of learning how to find and keep balance with a healthy lifestyle.

Today I joined a gym and was being oriented when I saw this beautiful red headed gal running HARD on the treadmill. Impressive...well, except for she looked miserable...just gutting it out.I wondered...what is her drive? why is she punishing herself? why does it have to be so hard?

In that moment, I decided I don't want to gut it out. I can if and when I HAVE too, and yet I know to do this lifestyle change, I must find inspiration in what I find out about myself and my resilience and stamina of spirit, my strength and endurance of body, and my humor and grief surrounding food issues.

So! Here I am. I want to be a part of something bigger than myself. Have something (someone) to lean on and learn from in this endeavor. And, I want to reach my goals...short term and long term.

I can do this! I look forward to being with ya'll!

Hi! My name is Lisa and mom of daughter, 12th grade, and son, 5th grade. I have been happily married for 23 years, and adding to my size for each of those. I am done. One does not have to fat to be happy. In fact, It's very confusing to be so happy with everything else in my life, but so unhappy with my body. So, I am here. I am exerting control. I will be working exercising into my routine. I will be eating better. I will be drinking less soda (my biggest downfall) and I will be getting stronger so that in about forty pounds or so, I can start trying to run. I have always wanted to be a runner, and it is time.

My name is Mary Beth. I am new to SparkPeople, however not new to trying to get healthy and loose weight.
I've been overweight for as long as I can remember, it seems.

I have been happily married for 25 years, I am a house wife, mother of 2 girls (ages 22.5 and 20.5) and I have 2 grand children (1 boy, 7.5 months old, and 1 girl, 3.5 years old). I love my family and am working to make the choices to be a healthier me; so I can enjoy being with them for much longer!

Hello all, and happy new year!
I am like many of you here, joining to get motivated for the new year. This year, I have made a committment to stay strong, and stick to this effort.
I originally joined SP about 2 years ago, as I was about to turn 50, and wanted to get healthy. I lost 20 pounds and was well on my way to my goal of losing 30 pounds. I kept it off for about a year, and then I lost my spark and gained almost all of it back.
So, I know I have done it before, and I am determined and committed to do it again, and KEEP IT OFF!
I am a 51 year old ( almost 52!) mom of two girls, ages 20 and almost 18. I am married to a great guy who loves me no matter what I weigh. I work full time, and have a hard time balancing time for myself with all my other responsibiltiites.
Looking forward to finding success on this journey with all of you!

I just graduated college last month with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (K-8, teaching) from an online university. I have been working on getting healthy since September 2012 with the help of several different iPhone apps.
