hey everyone. My name is Nicole. I am 29 yrs old. about 3 yrs ago I lost about 15 lbs doing WW. I had stopped because it was getting costly and instead joined SP. I have been a member on and off since then but since I am getting close to 30 I decided that I don't want to go through this weight lost yo yo anymore and really got serious. I have been exercising everyday and writing everything down even the stuff I wish I didn't eat. I have noticed a difference and feel great. I guess you can say I am food obsessed and I am really trying to break that. I also have a wonderful boyfriend who is the same way. They good thing is I do all the cooking so at least I know at home he is eating healthy.
Good luck everyone

I check out the Spark People website and signed up in November. I am now ready to start making changes to my eating habits. Hopefully I find Spark People website and all the activities encouraging and will keep up with them. This is a big change for me. I should probably be known as FastFoodQueen and maybe some day soon NoFastFood for me.

Hi I'm Stephanie and I want to get healthy and have more confidence and engery! I am a 30 year old mother of two and wife to a military man. I have totally let myself go.... I'm an emotional eater and missing my family has taken it's toll on me. We now live a little closer to family so it is a little better, still 13 hours but better than 30 hrs. I am ready to change and make myself healthy and fit. We will be starting the retirement process soon and I know it will be stressful so I am working on ways to not use food to cope.
I am also a Zumba Addict... I wish I could do a class everyday but I couldn't afford it. Maybe so day I will be leading the group..
Good luck to all of you.

Welcome Kayla,

This is a great week to start, don't you think. We can sit back and enjoy the holiday without being miserable because we ate too much! emoticon To tell the truth, I didn't even think about the upcoming holidays when I joined last week. I guess I was so focused on turning my life around, they just slipped my mind...or maybe it was a SENIOR MOMENT!!!

Good luck on your journey. Ramona emoticon

Hi all! I'm Kayla and I am once again trying to lose the weight (117 pounds to be exact) I put on after getting married and having a baby. My weight has always been an issue, and I have only once succeeded at losing weight (65 pounds)....when I was 19 LOL! It isn't that easy for me any more now that I am 29...I thought it would just melt off like before but boy, was I wrong. I want to set a good example for my three kids by eating healthy and exercising. In fact, my 9 year old son loves working out with me (he tries so hard to keep up, its so cute). This isn't just about losing weight so that I can look good, but I want to have a healthy body on the inside, too, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

hi everyone. i'm new.
i love food. i decided to come to sparkpeople because i need to keep myself more accountable for what i eat, how much i eat, and how much i exercise. i tend to be a stress eater and lately have fallen into the "eating badly--low energy" cycle trap. i have a few pounds to shed.

Good evening everyone! I am looking forward to being a part of the team! Life is about loving what you do but also about being present. Hi there!

My name is Alia, and this is my first time here. After dealing with a rough couple of years, I decided I needed to take control of my health again. I started trying to eat better and be more active at the beginning of September, and I've lost 10 lbs since then. My friend suggested I join this site to help with resources and motivation to keep going.

I currently weigh 150 lbs, and my goal weight is about 130 lbs (or at least that's what my doctor says it should be!) But, my real goal is just to be healthy and fit!

So, nice to meet everyone, and best of luck to you all! :)

emoticon Hi Class! It's my second time on Sparkpeople, I've forgotten my login from 2 years ago. I recently started to work in Germany, but still have the same weight to lose :( I weight 118,5 kg now and I want to go back to 75 as I was six year ago in middle school. I feel like I can control my life now so here I am to be 18 till I die.

Thank you Hillslug.

Yes, thankfully, I can ride my bike, and I've got an exercise bike in my home gym. I used to love cycling, but hadn't done that in quite a while. I'd been walking so much I sort of forgot about my bike, and it's been sitting in the shed unused for too long. I intend to get it ready for use again next spring. Meanwhile, I'll use the exercise bike in my gym. :)

I'm a stress eater, too.

Give yourself some credit. You have willpower. You can make it stronger. Every time I do NOT eat that cookie when I'm stressed, I congratulate myself. Sometimes I go back later and eat the cookie. But the fact I resisted for a while means I probably ate one less cookie than I would have. Will power is like a muscle. Exercise it, a little bit at a time. You can do this.

Pat yourself on the back more often. I'm willing to bet that your inner voice spends more time criticizing you than it does praising you, despite all the good stuff you do. If a co-worker talked to you the way you let your inner voice talk to you, you'd be fuming and you'd never talk to them again. (Okay - I'm guessing, and I'm basing this on my own experience. I spent too much of my life telling myself I'm fat and stupid. I'm not stupid, and the fat part is something I can change. My inner bully has become my inner coach. Sometimes she's mean, sometimes she's encouraging, but she always seems to know what to say to get me moving!)

I see you have a bike on your tracker. I hope your condition allows you to cycle. I'm an avid cyclist. I'm transitioning to walking (and later, running) because of the coming winter. (I commute by bike, and I've discovered I really don't like riding home in the dark.)

I see people riding bikes they pedal with their hands. I admire people who push back against the physical challenges life throws at them. It sounds like you're one of those people. (It's also great that you recognize that being at a healthy weight is not the same thing as being physically fit.)

Good luck!

Hi everyone! My name is Mary. I'm coming up to my 47th birthday soon and want to make this the year I get healthy and fit. I have about 60 pounds to lose, I regrettably took up smoking again in July, and recently found out my cholesterol levels are way too high. o this is the year I'm going to turn all that around!

Hello everyone my name is Val

I just started sparks today.

I decided it was time to change my life today. Today is my birthday and what better time than now. I turned 48 today and by the time I turn 49 in 365 days I would love to be at my goal weight.

I know it is going to take alot of hard work and dedication but I am up for it. It is pretty bad when I cant wait to get home from work and night and take off my pants because they are too tight. LOL And I am just to darn cheap to go by bigger ones. But I am not too cheap to by smaller ones.

I have a real sweet tooth. To be exact cake. It is my down fall.

I have been happily married for 28 years. This December will mark our 29th anniversary. My husband has never said anything about my weight. Only that he will support me full force.

So here I go I am off to make start my 365 day life change. And all for the better.

Val emoticon

With God all things are possible.

Hello, everyone!
I'm Veronica - also Vroni - a complete newbie not only on Sparkpeople, but at weight loss too. I never was on a diet in my life - maybe because I'm still young though.
I finished school this year and moved to Germany for studying. Before I haven't really thought about how much I weight. I have a fantastic grandma who always thinks that the main job in her life is to feed me as much as possible, a mom who never ever said that my love for sweets or walks to the fridge at night are bad. And I didn't have problems - of course, in school a couple of times I heard that I'm fat and all of that, but I was always loved by friends and class, so I didn't really care.
But now, as I moved and had to start over again, I felt horrible. When you have to find friends all over again - it's really hard, especially, when you're not talking on your mother language. So I started eating again. Chocolate was always my best friend and this time was not much different. Then once I looked in the mirror and understood that I'm too fat. Of course, I know that to some my weight problem can seem not so serious, but for me, weighting 84 kilos when all of the people around me weight around 55, if not less, mixed together with the feeling that I can't find myself any friends, is hard.
So, in a hope to start something new and gain more self-confidence, I came here. English - so as German - is not my mother language, so I can sometimes make mistakes, but I really hope that I will belong in this community, inspiring others and getting inspired to move on myself. :)

Hello, i'm Mariann and this is my second time at Spark people. Last time (jan 2011 thru about may 2011), i lost 20 lbs but even better, i started running and ran half a dozen 5Ks last year.

Then all heck broke loose and my job started really stressing me out and taking up all my time -- there went the exercise routine, and started drinking more and eating bad foods galore -- put all the pounds right back on. It all came to a head a few months ago when my hubby decided he'd had enough and wanted out.

Luckily then my company was acquired by another and my job stress was suddenly alleviated. My marriage is now alive again and i actually have time to exercise too.

But life always throws you curveballs doesn't it? Now i've been having trouble running due to calf muscle strains, and my checkup just revealed i have high cholesterol and glucose -- a first for me. Sucks getting old!!!!

I know Sparkpeople works -- i did it before and i can do it again. The only thing is, what a horrible time to start doing this, during the holiday season -- it starts with the Halloween candy and doesn't let up till after the New Years eggnog!! GAAAAH.

"Life is a daring adventure or it is nothing." -- Helen Keller

Finally a day off. I found SparkPeople last week but have been working the last 5 out of 6 days.
I'm over 55, lost 40 pounds last year, started working on my Bachelor's degree in nursing this February and gained all of the weight back. Mindless eating while studying? Stress eating when meeting a deadline? Not exercising because I'm writing papers? ( I average one term paper per 2-3 weeks) All of the above I guess.
So here's the deal. I have a young grandson and I need to be active to keep up with him as he grows more active. I will get his weight down again. Hoping to exercise at least 20 minutes per day and keep my tracking current. Wish me luck!

Slow and steady.. don't need to win the race to succeed.

Hello~

I can't wait to get to know everyone, I'll be honest I'll be the one that needs the most pushing. I just seem to struggle with staying on track and not eating a chocolate bar or 3.

I'm 40 (yuck!), mom to 3 children who most of the time are wonderful but know what buttons to push to get a raise out of me, been married to a great and wonderful man for 17 years. I'm a Canadian living who has been living in Texas for the last 8 years. I need to get off my butt and excerise more and eat healthier. :)

Just sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Snapshots by me. :)

Hi! I hope I'm not late to the party...

I joined yesterday, because I really need to get fit again. Due to Fat Pad Atrophy, I can barely walk, and my physical condition has deteriorated a lot over the last two years. So I decided to find ways to move my tuches and get in shape again, and if I cannot exercise standing up, I'll do it sitting down.

Thankfully, I don't need to lose any weight. I'm probably one of very few people over here who can honestly say that she's never been overweight in her entire life, which is a real blessing.

Hi all!

New to Spark - a veteran at trying to lose weight and get healthy.

I am hoping that I can make friends and create a support system here so if I break a streak or hit a plateau I have many people to help me get back on track and not allow me to fly off the deep end. Will even give my cellphone number to a select few so if I go AWOL I can be found and dragged back to reality of my food addiction. What a bitter reality it is!

Life is a journey worth living.

Hi, I am Terri. This is my 4th SP class and hopefully my last. I need to stick with it this time not just for myself but for my family. I am in my 30's, am a wife, a mother of 2 (3 yr old and 2 month old) and a special education teacher. I am an emotional eater and with a busy home life and a stressful job I find that I am mindless eating far too often. I have had success and lost weight both on my own and with sparkpeople in the past. Right before I had my 2 month old I had lost 24 lbs. I am 7 lbs. away from pre-pregnancy weight but unfortunately my pre-pregnancy weight was not even close to my goal weight. I am hoping to meet some new people, support others, and find a safe place to meet my goals.

Hi everyone I'm Allie emoticon and I'm new to Sparkpeople.
I'm a freshman in nursing college and I'm from Italy. emoticon
Since last winter i lost around 8kg ( 17 lbs) but my goal is to lose an other 17 lbs before Valentine's Day ( i choose a random nice, but reasonable date).
I have a strong sweet tooth, especially when i come back home after 12 hours of nursing school and managing to catch the train in time.
Do you have any suggestion to help me overcome the struggle?

I apologize ahead for any mistake you my find in my post...i'll be happy to be corrected ^^ Thanks emoticon

I joined Sparkpeople this week! Actually I joined Sparkpeople several years ago and joined a gym and enjoyed some successful weightloss! It was the only thing that ever worked for me. But, alas, I let the weight creep back on. I am so frustrated by that!

I decided to start fresh. New goals, new name, new everything! I am on Day 3 and feeling good about it! I am giving up my nightly beer as well. That might not seem like a big deal, but I was at the point where I would drink a couple a night. Again, not a big deal, except that I NEEDED those beers. And on the weekends it was more than a couple. And when you add up all those calories, I can see where my weight gain has come from!

So far this is easier than I was expecting. But I need to do this and I know it! I am almost 42 and have a family history of heart disease. I know I must be careful and I haven't been! I am excited to be here!

The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers.

It's never too late to start again. I found SparkPeople when I was well past 50 and it's been keeping me young ever since : )

As I mentioned earlier: Nutrition Tracker, Nutrition Tracker, Nutrition Tracker and blog, huddle and or post to threads. Keeping your journey out there is a *huge* motivator. Who wants to say they didn't do the best they could do on any given day?

OK, so I went to change my username, and it deactivated my account... so here I go again!

My name is Ashley. I'm 45. I have a LOT of weight to lose. I'm tired of feeling icky all the time. I'm tired of my knees hurting. I've said many times I'm going to do this and stick with it, but I have NO willpower. I stress eat, and well, my life is stressful! Looking forward to getting to know you all better.

Hello! My name is Heather and I'm 33 years old and attempting this for the fourth time. Fourth. And this time I plan to stick to it and not let life or little set backs derail me. I'm horrible at sticking with goals but I've had a scare with two family members passing away within in six months, and only in their early 40s. I am aware my family has poor medical history and I know I need to make positive changes and stick with them. I just suck at it. I have no will power or self control sometimes. Here's to getting this journey off and running and not get derailed!

Wow! Three new Sparkers in a row : ) Welcome, all three of you. SparkPeople can take up a fair bit of time as you learn how everything works, but it's definitely worth making the effort. My best advice? Use the Nutrition Tracker *every* *day*, and post to discussion threads or blog often.

Hi, I'm Heather! I am 25 years old, a certified elementary school teacher looking for a full time position. I currently a substitute teacher. I have tried Spark People before, but I didn't really put my full effort into it. So I deleted my old page and decided to start fresh again yesterday! I'm feeling very excited and confident in myself! My goal is to lose about 60 pounds.

Hi! My name is Andi. I'm also a repeat Sparker like Ashley. I just reset all of my goals and everything. I need a fresh start. I've never really been an active member of an SP Class group but I really want to be involved with this one. I'd love to make a great friend with common goals that will be willing to work with me and keep me motivated on my journey (and it's going to be a life-long journey).

A little bit about me: I'm a 7th grade Language Arts teacher in NC. I'm a Christian. I have a 17 month old son and my boyfriend (his father) lives with us as well. I have always been overweight but, after my pregnancy, I'm really struggling to lose this excess weight. I'm hoping that SparkPeople will help me out! :)

Welcome, GO9ERSJRH. Yep, SparkPeople's Nutrition Tracker can become your best friend for the next while. May I suggest you check out SparkTeams and find a team of folks with whom you have some things in common? That's a really effective way to build a Spark support network.

I'm starting out today. It seems like I've done this many times before. I'm going to use sparkpeople this time for menu planning and tracking. I'll need encouragement.

Hi, I'm Ashley! I'm a repeat-Sparker from years ago but I wanted to start out fresh, so I created a brand new page and go from there. The site has changed a bit from when I last used it. I'm looking to lose weight that I have put on over the last year with being in nursing school. As a student nurse, I find I'm the best example for what I tell my patients that I take care of and therefore, should be a role model for health.

I know weight loss a process and a journey, but I hope that many of stick around for it and not get discouraged :)

Welcome! I echo what Rex says about making good use of SparkPeople.

SparkPeople is a powerful tool in our health/fitness/weight management journeys. Have fun exploring the site, and keep in touch with us and each other using the Discussion Threads, Huddle or blogs. As an added incentive, you garner SparkPoints by being active on the site. Go to the pull-down menu "My Trackers" and scroll down to "SparkPoints" to see how to amass SparkPoints that you can then spend on SparkGoodies for yourself or others : )

Your team leaders (moderators) are Ken (HEALTHIERKEN) and Rex (RG_DFW).

Welcome and thanks for joining this team. You're here because you want to make changes in your life: lose weight, gain fitness, etc. I've got suggestions but to help start you on the path, go ahead and create your Spark Page if you haven't done so yet.

Then you should find our page and 'friend' both of us. That's easy to do, look for links within the team pages for HEALTHIERKEN and RG_DFW. Read our pages, look at our stories, select us as friends.

Next, write about your goals and your current starting point. Put them in print, in public (that's what the 'gurus' say to do and it seems to work).

I leaned that three things helped me lose a ton of weight and regain fitness. Those are Cardio / Calorie Management / Strength Training. I'm not talking about hours and hours every day. How about ten to twenty minutes a day?

The team goals are here to help you remain active and consistent. Join the goals and maintain them weekly! Good luck to you all and let us know when you need advice or assistance.
