Hi, my name is Brenda_50. Actually I joined SP on September 19, 2012, but since they didn't have a class for that date I joined this one. With health problems and having to go to a different state than what I live in to see my mom in the nursing home, I can't always eat like I know I should, therefore I've only lost 20 pounds. I've had surgery on both of my feet and it hurts to even walk, let alone do the exercises I really would love to be able to do. My weight loss is going slow, but I know that if I just keep doing the best I can that eventually I'll get to my goal.

Hi everyone! My name is Sue and I'm so glad to have found you! I was thinking about joining ww online, and somehow stumbled across this site and discovered what I feel will be a great fit for my weight loss journey.

My motivation started because my workplace recently started a wellness program and I decided to give up beer for a while. One thing led to another, and here I am 10 lbs lighter and have been getting out walking about 4x per week.

My challenges are portion control, chocolate, and a hubby that is loving but not interested in joining me at this time.

I would like to lose 50 lbs (to start) and to be able to shop in the non-plus size section.

Ok, Im back from my business trip, Ive weighed and measured myself and Im starting "for real". Ive got out my scale for weighing food and keeping track of calories, I will write it down (but Im using another application Im used to) and limit my intake. Exercising is easy, Im doing it already and a lot. And I definitely want those 10 kilograms to drop for ever. So lets go!

Hello everyone,

I'm new to sparkpeople, but was on weight watchers. I lost weight with weight watchers, but have gained most of it back due to bad habits and severe arthritis in my knee, which makes exercise painful. I need to initially lose 10 pounds so I can be considered for a knee replacement, but then I'd like to lose more and be healthy and active once again. I'm an older mom with 2 young kids and I'd like to be a good example for them. Not sure how sparkpeople compares with weight watchers, but I'd like to give it a try. Kind of tired of calculating points!

Hi Beth
Like you, I get sore aching joints, but mainly from osteoarthritis. Exercise for me is a prescription that I know I need and I too joined this site to help keep me motivated. I sure hope you can find a way to slowly incorporate gentle exercise into your busy schedule as it sure helps.

I too am an animal lover and have 2 dogs, a border collie and an australian shepherd and both are getting on in years.

I look forward to watching your progress!

Hi, I am so happy to have found this site.

I am 57 years old and had a total hip replacement 2 years ago due to osteoarthritis. The hip osteo came on so suddenly and I was shocked as I have walked for many years, have kept my weight down and was surprised when the Dr told me I needed a new hip. The waiting year was a painful one with my mobility slipping away to the point of needing a walker to go shopping.

Fast forward 2 years.. I am very mobile again and this summer gave bike riding a try and fell in love with it after a 40 years absence.. last time I rode was as a teenager!!

My goals are to stay motivated, get stronger and lose those last few pounds that keep creeping back on.

With winter approaching I have a stationary bike and they can be boring so I bought a "spinning" exercise DVD to help vary my program.

I also have lived with and managed Fibromyalgia for over 20 years and exercise really helps with pain control.

I am so taken with site as it's the push I need to keep on going when I start to backslide. Just knowing others are in the same boat and have the same struggles really helps. If others can do it...so can I.

I love the food tracker.. I had no idea I was overeating at each meal until I started adding things up!!!!!

I look forward to becoming a part of this site and communicating more with like minded folks.

I'm Carol and excited to join this team! I have 40 pounds to lose - to some that may not be much but to me it's a lot. I'm only 5'3" so that's just over 20% of my body weight. I didn't have to worry about my weight until the birth of my last daughter 5 years ago. I could eat whatever I wanted and if I needed to lose a few pounds, they seemed to come off pretty easy. Yeah, now I'm 41 years old and that lifestyle of eating whatever I wanted has caught up to me. I don't like being overweight - having to look at myself in pictures, pass by cute clothes in the store, etc. I just want to be healthy. I hope to make some friends on SparkPeople so I don't feel like I'm doing this alone!

Hello everyone, my name is Joanna and I am 25 years old. My goal is to lose 75 pounds. I gained a lot of my weight after getting married 7 years ago. I have trouble staying motivated. I do good for the first week or two. If I make a small mistake I end up giving up and quitting. I have a addiction to sweets and fast food. Hello everyone. My name is Jill and I live in Florida.

My weight has slowly crept up over the years, mostly due to stress and anxiety but also due to the fact that I just plain don't enjoy exercise and I'm not a particularly active person. When I moved to Florida 7 years ago due to my husband's job move, I become even more of a sedentary person, since I just can't handle hot environments. Honestly I just about hibernate from April - November.

As I become more sedentary and heavier, I am also very aware of the effects of these choices as you age. Living in Florida, I see plenty of seniors in their 70s and 80s using mobility devices or shuffling slowly and filling a dozen prescriptions at a time at the pharmacy, while at the same time filling up their baskets with sweets and eating whatever the early bird special is whether it's healthy or not. It's not just a stereotype. I have resolved not to be like that. Up to this point, I have been lucky enough to have normal blood pressure and cholesterol, but I know that I am pushing it. I turn 49 later this month, and my goal is to live the healthy lifestyle I need by the time I am 50.

Welcome and hello all!

I am also a "former Sparker", though I hate that way of saying it, because my weight and being on this site have been going on for YEARS in my life! I turned 40 this year and have gone from being the primary caregiver to my 63 YO Mother... to being a stay at home Mom to two little ones who are still in diapers (1YO & 3YO). I have also moved in to a new house in the sticks, have a full-time boyfriend (whose kids I'm caring for) and have lost most of the communication I had with my own 12 YO Son because he doesnt like the new living arrangements. Suffice it to say, this year has been STRESSFUL for me...
As a result, the fit/healthy body I had built over the past two years went to hell and I've gained roughly 70 lbs back since March!!!
I was lifting 4-5 times a week, walking every day and eating a mainly Protein Diet then... And one of the things I learned was that my body doesn't operate well on sugar. I ate it again anyhow, and here I am again.
I mainly just need a place to rant a little. I have really great willpower once I get past the first 3-4 days of a Diet...
I'm looking forward to being able to tie my shoes without feeling "squished" again!!!
I'm following an Atkin's-esque plan, but will be more or less zero-carb by next week. I started yesterday, having only 50 grams of carbs, but I allow myself to eat as much as I need to (protein and fat with incidental carbs) for a couple days to thwart the sugar cravings.

Hello everyone! I am a lover of adventure, but realize that my next few adventures (moving to Africa in a few years and having children) will go much better if I start healthy fit and at a size and shape that makes my feel like that confident woman that I need to be to succeed at these adventures.

We have all made great first step my becoming spark people. Each one of you seem to have great reasons for making lifestyle changes and I hope I can encourage each of you along the way! emoticon

My life is very busy and I have not been making the time to exercise and cook fresh food from scratch these days. I need to make to time to exercise and I think I need to be more realistic about cooking. I has blessed to have grown up in a household with a stay have home mom that make everything from scratch. I feel guilty when I cook any other way. I need to get over this! I have a job, a home to keep up, a community to be involved in and a hobby or to that I like a lot more than cooking, so I am hoping my new spark team will be partners with me is learning simple ways to find a happy medium between cooking everything from scratch and pizza/wing/take out style eating.

Hello! I'm Leelee, and I am so excited to be starting this journey with you all as my SparkTeammates.

I'm single, and raising my 5 yr old grandson. I'm also quite involved on a daily basis with my 3 yr old and 1 yr old granddaughters. Those kids are the focus of my life.

I work on a hotline, so I sit for about 8 hours a day at work, and probably 2 more hours at home in front of a computer. I am a smoker, but can't smoke at work, so I find myself snacking at my desk all day. I also have an addiction to sugar and love cake, pie, and those kinds of foods. When I was younger, I could eat those things without gaining. I have finally realized that I can no longer rely on my youth to keep me thin. For about the past 10 years, I have noticed that every fall and spring, when it's time to change out clothing for the change in weather, that my clothes from the previous year are too small. I just go buy bigger clothes. I can't continue to do that anymore. When does it stop?

I have an aversion to exercise. I hate it. I will need help in that category.

My main reason for wanting to lose weight is for my wedding next year. I've done weight watchers and slimming world..tried fad diets...celebrity diets but I never stick them out...but hopefully with something bigger to work towards I may have a chance.

Alright girls, we are here! We have ALL taken the incredibly hard first step and JOINED! We have looked at ourselves and decided what needs to be changed. Now we have to figure out what we have to do to make that change happen. For me, it's portion control and making myself accountable for it. Hi my name is Beth. I currently don't have a scale but used my last known weight. I am a former Sparker who fell off the wagon really really hard!! I have gained back over 70 pound that I know of. I work from home but it is a desk job where I am at my computer usually 12 hours or more a day. I am a mother of two wonderful children ages 15 and 11 and have a wonderfully supportive husband. To round out the family are our faithful dogs, a miniture pincher and a doberman pincher, 1 calico cat, 1 ferret, and 2 aquariums. I have joint problems with my hips from a birth defect that was not discovered until I was older and the pain is often my excuse to not exercise when I have the chance. I know my weight is part of the problem and I am hear to help solve that problem. In short my goal is to stop hurting so much!!!

Hi all,
I'm Ashley, a college student who lives with my dad, brother, and my dad's girlfriend but spends about half my time at my boyfriend's and his sit-com/soap opera worthy family. There are always at least 4 different directions that I am being pulled and that leaves me with little to no free time to do as I please. The last 3 weeks have been rough. Because of them I have realized that I have not been putting my health first and have let some family push me around to the point that I didn't stand up for myself and even missed my gym classes that I am paying for. I need some type of support behind me to keep me accountable and help me succeed when everyone around me seems to want to make me fail. The other girls in my gym class are mothers and wives and have control over their houses and pantries and don't really understand where I am coming from. I found SparkPeople a while ago but never really took the time to use it and connect with people that are going through some of what I am while trying to change their lives.

My best friend is getting married the first weekend in November. She lives 800 miles away so I haven't been able to see her much as she is getting ready for the wedding. She sent me a picture today of her and her baby nephew. I was shocked to see that she lost all the 20 pounds she had put on since we had met. She looks amazing. I know that there are going to be a ton of pictures taken at her wedding and I don't want to look horrible next to her. I know that I'm not going to be able to change how I look very much since the wedding is so close but I want to make the biggest change possible from now till then. I also want to feel better. I feel like I have no energy lately and can't play with my 2 year-old niece very long before I get tired and have to stop. I'm in college, I should be able to stay up all night and still be able to do it all the next day but usually I sleep late and still feel the urge to take a nap most days.

Hello

For the first time in my life I am ready to do this slow and steady. Long story short this has been a year of change for me. I left an abusive husband (of 10 years), quit smoking, am working an creating a career (not a job), so, I figured that this was as good a time as any to get healthy.

So, about a week ago I was mowing the lawn, or trying to. Well, I lost my breath, mowing the lawn!!! Truth be told, over the last month or so I have felt short of breath and my clothes have felt tight.

I'm not doing this for any prospective relationship interest, I'm so not ready for that again. I am doing this so that I can have the energy to be there for and with my kids. It's not fair to them to have a mom who can't keep up or who is so tired after a full day work that take-out is on the menu. My kids deserve a mom who is happy, healthy and energetic, and so do I.

Hi,

I am Kay. I am finally really motivated to lose weight - 100 lbs - but I know I need help. I am a widow, my only daughter lives in another state - so I am lonely, diabetic, and have a really bad back. My husband was quadriplegic, 6'5", and I was his sole caregiver for many years. The pulling and tugging necessary for his care injured my back, but I am finally having an MRi done tomorrow and hope to find out that there is something that can be done to correct the problem.

I have been working on changing my life recently by doing things like finally earning a degree and writing a novel, so changing the way I look and feel needs to be a part of this.
