I'm Sara and I'm from Ontario, Canada. My fiance and I joined a weight loss competition at our gym almost 4 weeks ago, and have been making healthy choices ever since.
The competition is 3 months long, and I'm hoping to drop between 40 and 50 lbs in that time. Our official 4 week weigh in is this week - he's down 19 lbs already - and has a newly broken foot, so has been very limited in what he can do at the gym! My weigh in is on Saturday, but earlier in the week I was down 14!
This morning I went for a run with my trainer at 6:30 a.m. (took the dog too - he really enjoyed that!!!), and now am preparing to go on a photo hike with some of my girlfriends today. I've packed everyone's lunches so we're all getting quality food today!! Normally I'd be begrudingly staring at my alarm clock (that just went off as I wrote this) but today I've already put in some cardio, made breakfast, spilled a protein shake all over the white carpet and cleaned it up, and am ready to take on the day!!
I was introduced to spark people a few years ago by one of my friends, and had drifted away, but knew there were so many useful tools and resources that I came right back as soon as we started our journey!

Sue from New Mexico. Never figured I'd still be looking at this 3 weeks down the road, so maybe there is hope for me that this may work and will help me loose some weight. Actually lost 4 lbs this month just by tracking and paying more attention to what I eat. But I may have trouble staying motivated as I go on a vacation next week and then back to work full time in November, so won't have time to check this all out and post/look at this stuff. Any ideas how to make it simpler and less time consuming?

Really having a hard time even maintaining right now. Back up to starting weight + UGH!!!!!

Hello! I'm Michelle, I joined SP on the 8th. So far I've focused on tracking what I eat and it has been a real eye-opener! Knowing I have to log it makes me stop and think before I put it in my mouth. I am trying to be more active but I'm not really exercising yet. I'm looking forward to a healthier future!

Hello my name is Donna. I joined about a week ago and have just started getting to making sparkpeople more a daily part of my life. I have been dealing with other issues and not focusing on what really matters. I am hoping by participating in groups I will get the accountability I need. I have a lot of people around me that want to loose weight but have found the it is easier to accept excuses from each other than to hold ourselves and others accountable. I have read a lot of things in blogs and posts and really feel like this is a great support system. Thank you in advance for your help :)

Hello all, I started two weeks ago and so far so good. I too put the 10 lbs back on that I lost using weight watchers 2 years ago. I have a goal ( a dress to fit back into for a wedding this fall) and am motivated. The hardest part is the weekends when I splurge at social occasions but I am learning how to control that. I am in Florida and the weather is perfect for being active so I have run out of excuses. Here I go!

Hello, I've regained about half the weight I lost 2 years ago and finally decided to put the brakes on before regaining all of it. I'm looking forward to the motivation this community provides as welll as fitting back into my new wardrobe. I'm crazy about the spark phone app with the barcode scanner - sooo convenient not to mention cool. I'm such a nerd but if it helps keep me going, I'll scan anything to track it! emoticon

Hi everyone, I have been on and off Spark in the past few years but always end up putting the weight on plus more. I am the heaviest I have ever been and am hoping that this time I will do it sensibly and healthily so I can change my lifestyle and keep the weight off for good. I stuggle with emotional eating and binge eating

Hi all! This is my first post as a Sparkperson...LOL. Sorry I couldn't resist. I'm Mary, from Illinois. I'm here to get motivated and lose some MAJOR pounds! My current goals are starting small...daily walks with my dog and going to the gym 3-5 times a week for at least 30 minutes. I'm also interested in possibly cutting out dairy and gluten out of my diet, but still researching this topic. Has anyone had any luck going dairy/gluten free? If so, please let me know...the good or the bad! Thanks in advance and good luck to all! I'm excited to get started!

Hello! My name is Lesley and I just rejoined SP after not using it for the past 3 years. I am also a member on MyFitnessPal, but I feel like I've hit a wall on that site and I'm slowly getting bored with it. So I thought I would try SP again!
I have already lost 42 lbs this past year and I have 8 more to go until I hit my mini goal for my wedding! I am getting married on October 13th, and I want to have lost 50 lbs by that point. Again, I'm 8lbs away! :)
But I will be no where near done once I hit that mark. I will still have another 80 lbs to lose before I'm at my ultimate goal weight. I've got my plans in place to hopefully lose all of that by the end of next summer. My fiance has agreed that we cannot go on our Honeymoon (Scotland) OR have kids until I'm at my goal weight. So, I need to work my butt off (literally) so we can go to Scotland next year!

Hey Frankleworth! I was just wondering if your interest in nutrition is a recent development, and if so, how you discovered that you were so passionate about it that you would choose it for your graduate studies. I think the current buzzwords- organic and gluten free- have relatively little to do with nutrition. The nutritional value of food shouldn't be affected very much by either of these labels. Am I right to focus more on low sodium, low sugar, and portion size?

Hello, fellow SparkPeople. My name is Dwayne (the intended pronunciation of my username) and I live in Michigan. I went from working three jobs in college to a career in my field- education- and since then I find myself up and moving around for only about 5 hours a day. The rest of the time I am chained to my computer screen as I tend to the paperwork, grading and planning that make up a teacher's life.

My wife joined 7 years ago and lost 90 pounds for our wedding. Since then I've gained 30 pounds, and she's gained some too. Together we're trying to adopt more healthy living and eating habits. We were in Europe this summer and were painfully aware of how incredibly fat we were compared to most people there. Flying will be much more comfortable if we manage to slim down by ten pounds or more, and we'd like to travel to Mexico this winter to celebrate her college graduation.

So that's me, my journey, and my motivation. Good luck to us all!

Hello all! I am turning 30 in about a month, and the mother of a 3 year old and a 3 month old. I teach full time and am looking to fit into my work clothes! I am currently at 157 and would like to be about 135. I would be pretty darn happy at 140. :) I am also looking to make healthier food choices long term. I am currently breastfeeding, which I know SparkPeople tries to send you to BabyFit, but it just wasn't a good fit for me. I am pretty knowledgeable on what to do to prevent my supply from dropping, so I am not too concerned about that. So anyhow, that's me. I'm hoping to have a good support group here :)
