Hi, my name is Gwen. I live in South Florida with my DH; we have 3 adult children and 2 grands. I have been up/down with my weight for years and I am ready to finally get it off/learn to maintain. Had foot surgery back in October and still recuperating from it. I love brisk morning walks for my exercise, but due to surgery I ride my bike with DH.

The book "8 Min in the Morning," I had years ago and misplaced it; just returned from picking up another copy at Barnes & Noble. Can't wait to get started on it again.

Would love to be a part of this team; I need the accountability. Looking forward to making new friends here

Have a wonderful weekend everyone emoticon

YAY!
The biggest obstacle we face on this journey really is ourselves. Get in the mindset that you can do it, and you will! I do well with that MOST of the time, though am struggling this weekend. That said, I'm not struggling to the point of giving up. It's just not an option!

And yes, I get pretty busy with work too; it gets to be all consuming at times, but I'm really working to find more balance this year and to put my health on the priority list. That's why this little bit of strength training (ST) works for me. I know eventually I'll need to move on to bigger and more challenging, but it's what works for me and my lifestyle right now.

Looking forward to hearing how Day 1 goes!

Yes, thumbing through the book today so will start tomorrow 2/11 and weigh in as well. Guide me along and I am with you. We can be each others cheering squad! I am impressed with your weight loss and motivation. Am really serious about losing the weight and getting more exercise in my day. Because I work a lot....sounds like you do too, I can not devote a big chunk of time, the smaller, frequent ones are better for me.
Thanks! Will check in tomorrow!

YAY! Some company! Welcome!!!!
Have you had a chance to read through it yet?

I saw on the other thread that you're not sure where to start. If you're ready to jump in, I'd start with Day 1 on Monday (tomorrow!) If you'd like to look into it and get your feet wet, take a week or so and read through the book to familiarize yourself with it.

I confess, I'm in a hurry in the mornings. Just doing the two exercises takes enough from my a.m. routine when I'm trying to get ready and out the door, so I don't do the warm up or cool down. Nor do I follow his food plan.

I also confess, my motivation has been waning with this...just having a rough few days. However, doing it regularly I HAVE noticed that I'm more toned than if I did nothing. Now that I have some company you've sparked my motivation again - thank you!!

What do you think, will you start Monday or are you going to give it a week first?

I'm closer to my goal today than I was yesterday!

Oh, I totally get it! It is SO hard to get started, but if you can push through it, it does get easier. Never did I think I'd actually be able to get up early and do this every day before school - I am NOT a morning person, but I'm doing it! It's so much mind over matter.

Come on! You can do it! Commit to a week then post your results!

Are you doing the food plan, too? I don't. I just do the 2 exercises. I don't do the warm up or cool down, either - which probably isn't a good thing.

I'm glad you're finding success in working through some of your emotional issues. It souls like you're really working toward some positive changes in your life!

I'm having a pretty rough week, but getting through it one day at a time. I've been working very hard at trying to find/make more balance in my life.

In addition to all the garbage going on in 'life', the scale isn't budging this week (looking like a possible gain, eek!). I suspect another plateau may be approaching, but I only count Saturday's weigh in. We'll see what that day brings. Until then, I'll just keep on keepin' on!

One positive choice after another. Eventually they add up!

How did your dry run go? Do you think this is something that will work for you/is doable?

Really appreciate your tips. Was out of town for a couple of days but was able to sort out the emotional stuff. Now clear on my motives and the things I want and also finally identified some crucial steps like the power of preparation.

Did my day 1 of the program today. It's a dry run. I'll do Day 1 again on Monday.

Weighed myself today (because I promised to weigh myself every Thursday). As expected, I did not lose any weight. That's alright because I had to clear the emotional stuff. Now ready for the journey, equipped with the right tools.

Thank you for your support.

I see you made up a page! Looks great! This site has SO much to offer, it can be overwhelming. Take it a little at a time, but be sure to explore as much as you can over time. Use the tools that work for you. I'm a bit of a geek and have been focusing on my sparkpoints. (o: I've been logging in every day (even if only for 5 min) just so I can spin the sparkwheel and keep my attendance and consistency streaks going. Hey - whatever it takes to keep us motivated, right?

It sounds like the version of the book you have has a bit more of the reflection exercises than mine does. The way the version I have is set up is there's a brief exercise each day that goes along with each day of exercises. I did them the first time I went through the 28 day cycle, but confess I don't do them anymore. I wrote right in the book at the time (had lines on which you can write right on the page) and I do go back and reread from time to time. At this point I just jump into the exercises quickly and then get on with my day. (I don't do warm up or cool downs anymore, either.)

Glad to have you here! It's so much nicer with some company! (o:

Thank you for the warm welcome and for the tips. Ok, I will try and work on my spark page. It feels good to have a support group. Great to know that someone's got your back.

I just finished Chapter 2 of the book. It's taking me some time to work on the exercises especially the ones on Chapter 2. I've had to do a lot of thinking and reflecting. But I find it really good to clarify my intentions and goals at the start of the program.

Thank you once again.

Hello!! Welcome!

So great to have some company! I've not tried that version, but have heard about it from a former member of the team. I've been doing the version that is shown on the team page and have been having great success.

There are similar messages in the version I have. I, too, found the beginning chapters very inspirational and down to Earth, and I think that is why I continued reading and decided to give the program a try. I do not follow the food plan that is included, but I have been doing the daily exercises faithfully.

Having friends on the journey makes it so much easier! You've come to the right place! Are you new to Sparkpeople? Stick with it and you WILL make it this time! When you're feeling down, this is the place to go. When you're feeling great, this is the place to go! You'll get all the support and encouragement you need from this site. I noticed you do not have a sparkpage, so I sent you a sparkmail. I suggest you make a sparkpage and consider posting a blog every now and then. You'll be amazed at all the kind words and encouragement you'll receive from complete strangers. This site is so full of positive and understanding people. Everyone 'gets it' - since we're all struggling with similar things.

Again, welcome, and post often!

Are you starting with Day 1 tomorrow? Let me know how it goes so I can cheer you on! I'm on week 3, day one tomorrow.

Hi, I am a 41 year old housewife looking forward to shedding 32 lbs. I found a copy of Jorge's book just this week. It's the one with the title "8 MINUTES IN THE MORNING FOR REAL SHAPES, REAL SIZES". The book was published in 2003 and still I find its contents very promising. I just finished chapter 1 which talked about LEARNING TO RESPECT, ACCEPT, LOVE AND HONOR YOUR BODY. I'm now on Chapter 2 which is all about getting a support group.
I've been trying to lose weight all my life. To me the book stands out because it's founded on very sound principles. He went to the heart of the problem when he first wrote about the value of learning to RESPECT and APPRECIATE one's body. To me this is a core issue, when this is addressed, a big part of the psychological issue is solved.
I'm looking for friends in the journey. I want to make it this time.

I found it by search for "Jorge Cruise" on SparkPeople. It showed me various messages where his name came up and it showed me the old group. A pity that it did last...

I always try to do my 8 Minutes in the Morning almost as soon as I get up. I usually eat a piece of cheese before I start because I always wake up hungry. Today's exercises were hard. My legs will feel it for the rest of the day.

When I did 8 orignial MInutes in the Morning, years ago, I used 5 lbs weights. How heavy are yours?

I wonder if that's the one from five years ago! lol! I started that one the last time I did this. After a while I couldn't keep up and someone else took over as leader. Eventually it fizzled out and I think Sparkpeople took it off-line due to three months of inactivity.

I was looking for it before I created this one. How did you find it?

And on another note...did you do your 8 minutes this morning? I got mine in, but today was a bit of a struggle! I had a hard time with the crunches (as anticipated) and the arm exercises today were hard - I think my weights might be too much for that particular exercise.

I was searching on SparkPeople for more info. on Jorge's programs and I found out that there was an inactive group on "8 Minutes in the Morning". I sent out invitations to all the members to join us, so we'll see if anyone is interested. (I've never sent out an invitation on SparkPeople before so I hope it worked.) Oh, well. It doesn't hurt to try.

*Update*
I don't think the invitations worked. I sent one to myself and it never arrived. So, I'm just going to send everyone a personal message.

Hello!!! So great to have some company on this journey!

I'm curious about the version you're doing - I'm going to go look it up online and learn more about it. I was wondering the same thing last night as I was looking through the book - what if I can't do those crunches on Day 2 - ugh!

Thanks for jumping on board and wishing us both much success!

Hi, I just recently discovered "8 Minutes in the Morning for Real Shapes, Real Sizes" while I was exploring my local library. I had tried the original program before, but I had trouble doing some of the exercises. This new book is made for full-figured people and doesn't strain my knees or back.

It's quite a coincidence that you started this group yesterday. That was my first day on this program. Let's cheer each other on so we can reach our goals! emoticon

Hello!
I'm a married, full time working mom of 2 teenage boys. I tried this program about 5 years ago and had success. From what I wrote in the book back then, I lost 5 pound in the first 28 days. The school year then started up and this fizzled out. Life got in the way and I fell off the face of the earth for 5 years as I earned my master's degree.

Well, as I've mentioned, 5 years have passed (and I gained back all of the weight from my previous weight loss journey). I've been working on a summer of finding balance and getting healthy. Since last August, I've lost 43 pounds to date and have been walking/jogging like crazy. However my weight loss progress has stagnated recently. I decided to dig out my old 8 minutes in the morning book and give it a try once again.

Hoping this will jump start my weight loss again and I look forward to sharing the journey with anyone else who is willing to join me!

I'm closer to my goal today than I was yesterday!
