Thank you for all the warm welcomes. I am very excited to be running again and can already tell a difference in how I feel. Today the sun is shining and I'm itching to get back outside. It's supposed to be in the 40's this week so I think I'll do some running outside. I used to love to be outside in the fresh air, just me and my iPod.
Welcome Laura! Congrats on the weight loss so far. That first 5k experience does sound pretty bad, I'm glad your giving it another chance though. I hope that things go better next time.
I pretty much never have family at my races. My husband does not want to get up that early in the morning. Usually there are so many other people cheering along the path that it doesn't bother me any way. I hope your family can be there for you anyway. Also, when you start to really get into it and go to local races you will start to meet other local runners and the camraderie is amazing.
Welcome to the team! I'm pretty new to running, I've only been running since last summer.
I plan on running my first 5-k the end of April.
Hopefully this time around your running experience is much better!! Congratulations on the 7 lb weight loss!
"Our running shoes are really erasers. Every step erases a memory of a past failure. Every mile brings us closer to a clean slate. Each footstrike rubs away a word, a look, or an event that led us to believe that success was beyond our grasp." -John Bingham
The difference between the impossible and the possible Lies in a person's determination
I just wanted to introduce myself. I joined SparkPeople Feb. 2 and have lost 7 pounds. I started running two summers ago at age 41. I worked up to a 5k and had a terrible experience.(unexpected large hill, rain, trained to much before hand and no family at the finish line or for 30 min afterwards) If just left me unmotivated and I stopped running. I just took up running again and am adding 1/4 mile each week. The Race for the Cure run is May 10th and my goal is to be able to run 4 1/2 miles by then so this 5K will be successful. I am excited to be here and am feeling much healthier physically and mentally. I am now 42 and want to be around for my kids weddings and grand kids.
