Hey all!!!

Probably over a year ago, I came back to Spark People to get back on track. Needless to say, I fell off the wagon. I have always want to lose my extra weight, but I also want to do it the right way. I don't plan on doing any diets, or supplements or anything like that. I'm going to eat healthy and start working out again. I don't want to burn myself out by going to the gym too much, so I plan on going 3-4 times a week.

Hi and welcome to the team =] It's nice to meet you and thank you for choosing us!!

I always recommend to new members to just begin by focusing on 2-3 things in the beginning. As those things become more of a habit, add in something else. Keep doing that til it all becomes habit. It's easy to change only a couple things at a time but it's a lot to ask if you change everything all at once.

Another suggestion I have for you since walking had been suggested to you by your Dr, have you tried "Walking with Leslie Sansone"? Pam (PKJONES7) actually introduced me to it and I used it while I was pregnant (and VERY sick from being pregnant that I couldn't do any other exercises). It's easy to learn and it's free on YouTube, PLUS it takes up very little space which was a must at that time for me =]

If you need any help or advice let us know and we'll do our best to help you out or we will point you in the right direction to get the answers you need. Good luck!!

Trina

What's my story? Hmmm Been a member of SP since 2007. Still losing the same 30 lbs., but now it is 50. Figured it is time to get serious. I am 61 1/2. I would like to get in shape and stay there for whatever time is left. Could be a little. Could be a lot. So, to attain this goal of being healthy, I am tracking lots of stuff. Things like calories, sodium (I have HBP.) carbs, fat, protein. I am walking a lot. Doc says that should be 5 days a week. I am up to 3.5 miles on my days off and 2 miles on my work days. This is the first time I have been active in the SP community. That's why I am here. I like the smaller teams. Course, there is the Cat lovers team with 3000 plus members. Guess small doesn't apply there.
I am just working my way through and I don't want to do it alone. Company makes the journey fun and it supports when you have a cruddy day.

Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different outcome.

This is how I've managed to stick with it for so long. Any other time I've quit after only a few months.

Hi! Yep, I joined in that challenge right away =)

Consistency is very difficult. When I first started, I was very strict with myself. I'm trying to get back to how I was... =)

Hi! My name is Christina! I'm 27 yrs old. I live in Iowa. I have a wonderful fiance, Nate, and a daughter, Alaina, who is 6 yrs old. I work as a Paramedic, have been a Paramedic for 1 year. I started SP because because friend in my class mentioned it to me. I have hypothyroidism, which made me gain over 100#, including me giving up because exercise didn't help me lose the weight. I started SP in Jan 2012, but started taking it seriously in April 2012. I lost 62# from April to July of 2012, but had several changes in life....graduated college as a Paramedic, started a new job as a Paramedic( both things happened Aug and Sept 2012). I lost some focus. For injured at work in Dec by rolling my ankle in a ditch. This last year has been on and off. I gained all but 20# back. I recently weighed in on Wednesday and lost 4#. I have never lost motivation, it just got difficult to eat right everyday when I'm constantly on the go and my co-workers always went out to eat.

But I'm done with giving in to easy, I'm putting up a fight and am ready for a challenge!

I joined this team because I love the name...I teach kindergarten and we read the Little Engine That Could in our reading program. It has a great moral. I love spinning, go to a personal trainer once a week and did my first FoamFest 5K 2 weeks ago and LOVED it. I want to do more of those mud/obstacle runs in the future. Remember...what doesn't kill us makes us stronger and exercise will NOT kill us. Kim

Hello all! My name Jolie. Been an off and on member of spark. I got back on to use Spark for tracking but I figured a little inspiration and motivation from others wouldn't hurt. I like your group name. I will try to contribute to the teams as much as I can while I'm at it again. -Jolie

My name is Sandy, I am 53 years old. I live in Louisville, Kentucky am married 31 years in August. I have a beautiful daughter who is 26. I have a few health issues that I am dealing with, I had a Kidney transplant in 2002, due to the anti-rejection drugs, I have developed osteoporosis, anemia, Crohn's disease, I think that is all. Anyway, I am dealing with these issues fairly well. I work at a university and there is always candy and sweets around. I eat them because they are there not because I want them. I am 5'6" and weigh 163, so I am not that big, I am just not where I want to be.

After my transplant in 2002, I weighed 187, which I might add is the same thing I weighed when I went into labor with my daughter in 1987.

I need accountability. Thank you

Great to meet you Maura!!
Glad to be a part of your journey =]

My Mom's health is what pushed me from being serous for a couple weeks, to being serious for life. My health has always mimicked hers and I don't want to be where she is now in 20 yeares.

Congrats on the 20 lbs!! Yes the scale can be a big liar sometimes LOL. I use inches lost, my fitness level, and my energy levels to measure my progress along side the scale. Makes a big difference when you're not just focusing on one thing to measure your success.

So what is your main focus at the moment? I tend to tell people to just focus on changing 2-3 things at a time until it's become habit, then add in another 1-2 things at a time and it helps to make more permanent changes when you're eased into it.

Good morning! My name is Maura and I live in hot as hell Houston emoticon I was recently diagnosed with NASH (fatty non-alcoholics liver) in April along with diverticulitis and high cholesterol. This was a rude awakening since I am only 34 years old. Due to the fatal consequences if I do not change, I have had to change my attitude and approached this change with my own saying...change is no longer an option, it is a MUST. Of course after I met the Dr, I broke down, thought about not being here for my children (5 and 12 year old girls) and my husband of 8 years. And it wasn't the typical pity cry I have always done, it was the WTH did I do cry and then straightened up and started my plan of action. Proud to say since mid April, I am down 20#, lowered my cholesterol and feeling pain free and SO good! Got discouraged watching the scale not move, so instead of giving up like I have before, I have now started measuring myself weekly and THAT is more motivational. I am hoping to lose about 60-80#, but honestly once I reach a size I am happy with, I will stop. I try not to focus on the scale but rather how my body feels. I am an upbeat, positive person who always looks for the bright side of things and here for anyone on this page or site if you need support. emoticon Wish everyone the best of luck and WE CAN DO THIS!

Don't be your worst enemy, be your best cheerleader!

Hi all! my name is Katie. I am a single mom of a 11 year old daughter. I work at home for a paid survey company and am a part time college student. I began my weight loss journey in 1996 when I weighed 250 pounds. I am currently at 176 pounds. I began gaining weight at age 14 when my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer and life was turned upside down. I was taking care of my dad after school. before then I was always active in sports and outside. I was a nice 125 frame. my dad died 1 year later when I was 15 years old and dealing with that plus moving, adjusting to a single parent home was a lot to deal with so I would use food sometimes under eating, sometimes binge eating. before I knew it I weighed 250 pounds. I began doing a 5 k in 2011 and went from a size 22/24 to a size 18W. then I did another in the summer and went from a size 18w to a size 16R. I am currently working to my goal weight of 133 pounds.

my current goals are
1. tame the sweet tooth challenge
2. spark people 28 day boot camp work out
3. to become a positive person.

To an extent yes but my tiredness is much more than I feel it should be compared to the last times I was pregnant.

I'm due April 16th =] but I'll probably go over since I did with all of them LOL (well the twins I went as long as they allowed for having twins which is still 37 weeks).

I may be due the 16th but I bet I won't have the baby til somewhere between the 24-26th since they won't let you go more than 10 days over.

Yes the weekend did go pretty fast this time!!

I've been having sleep issues the last few days and so I was trying to catch up on sleep but I seem to be just sleeping the days away and still end up tired anyways, so it's time to try the opposite and burn some extra energy and maybe that will kick start something to get me awake!!

Litegirl, I dont track my sodium on the nutrition tracker , but we eat mainly fresh vegetables and fruits, a very few canned veggies and processed foods thats where most salt is found. And I dont add any salt to my foods, or use seasonings with salt in them either. Been feeling like crap today and yesterday, sick but still tracking my foods and staying in the bottom of my calorie range since I didnt feel like exercising yesterday, but going to try to get a little in today. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I don't exactly "track" it but I do keep a really close eye on what I buy when it comes to sodium and if it's too high it doesn't make it in the cart.

Hey everyone!! Our house was finally hit by the sick bug that's been going around but we're on the mend now so you'll be seeing more of me again LOL.

Great job on the test!! Your grades rock!! I take it you're excited about becoming a dental assistant then - marks tend to reflect the interest we have in the subject.

I'm so sorry about your sister Mary!! That must've been hard - well I bet it's still hard now even though it's been years without. Sounds like you've got your hands full with taking care of the hubby now too. How's your health??

I'm going to aim for a 30 minute elliptical workout today, I did 50 minutes yesterday.
Welcome all new members emoticon

Hi Everyone!
My name is Mary, I live near Pittsburgh, Pa. I am retired and was a procrastinator, saying I'd do this or that after I retire. Well, I took early retirement, and spent the first 2 weeks of it helping take care of my twin Sister's last two weeks. She was diagnosed with breast cancer which spread through the rest of her body,
That was 5 years ago and since I am an emotional eater, gained weight. I'm happy to say I am working on my procrastination. Since June 26, 2012 I finally quit smoking, I joined Spark people in July, and I have gotten a grip on my emotional eating and have my cravings and binges under control. Its been awhile since I have eaten mindlessly.
Now I am working on staying within my calorie range, although I started this month out changing it I realized I had made it too low., so yesterday I returned it to the original range spark has given me. I also intensified my workouts.
My sidekick's name is Yuki, she talks and clowns around and is very entertaining. My significant other, is Paul, and he is on Oxygen 24/7 so I am mostly homebound with little support.
Trust me, do not put things off, visit friends & family often, work is always going to be there, live in the present and enjoy life to the fullest, become healthy because the older you get the healthier you need to be.
Hope this is where I was to tell my story.

good morning everyone! well I finally did actually make it to the gym yesterday! now to just keep going there. I dont know how some people can be on those steppers or the tread mill for an hour, I think it gets boring! I guess if a good show is on that would help, but I just listen to my music and watch whatever interests me just a little bit.

Welcome to the Team!! It's great to have you here!! I know what it's like to weigh in every day. Yes it's recommended not to but it's all about perspective. If you get upset or too excited about the # on the scale from daily weighing then it's best to stay away. I use it to keep me in check. I also make sure it's at the same time every day so that the fluctuation isn't as great. I generally weigh in right after I get up and go to the bathroom. So not specifically a time but it's still consistent. I find I get off track and have a gain each week if I don't weigh in often. Maybe it's a mind over matter thing - IDK but it works LOL. How did your shopping trip go? I'm going to update our name cheat sheet soon with the new members names on it - what would you like us to call you?

Amber - you're welcome =] I've been watching my sodium too for the same reasons. My mom was actually diagnosed with high blood pressure (level 4 for both top and bottom #'s) almost a year and a half ago and our health seems to be a lot alike.

Yes the other teams tend to fade away. For as many people that join there's probably just as many that quit. I've been one of those quitters many times over. This time I've accepted that it's not about getting to my goal as fast as I can, but instead it's about living healthier then and making smaller changes one at a time. It's not about being perfect...it's about being better then yesterday =] This is by far the longest I've stuck to this and I plan to take it all the way this time. People have strong determination in the beginning but after a while it diminishes and if you can't find the motivation to keep at it, they leave. A lot of times they'll be back - but it takes time. This is why there are so many teams but not many that are very active. When our team starts to dwindle I try and get more people to come join us to keep the ones that are still here motivated to keep going =]

Thank you for replying to my post, I really appreciate the advice. Most of my foods like 99% of what I eat is fresh fruits and vegetables and no added salt to my food. All my seasonings are salt free, I watch my sodium because high blood pressure runs in my family. Another good point you make, yes I have only recently since jan 31st been this active, so it could be me building some temporary weight from muscle mass, and it could be from my period coming up soon. Either way, I'm not giving up. Thank you for taking time to read my post, I've noticed a lot of my teams Im on are becoming very inactive, such a shame as I come here looking for support and advice. Im one of those sparkers that on the weekend's likes to spend a lot of time on here as it distracts me from wanting to mindlessly snack.

Hello everyone, I seen your post on the main message board and so here I am! I also need people to keep me going, its always nice to hear from other people who are struggling or should I say going through some of the same things. I have always been the chunky one in the group, well except for the time I became a bulemic, I was skinny then!! yeah I know totally not the way to do it, but thank god I got pregnant, that took care of that!
I will be checking in at least every other day if not every day. i am starting new tomorrow, going to the grocery store in a few minutes to get what I need.

Yes the food tracker takes into account how much you're burning. As for the time of month, everyone varies but my weight always fluctuated anywhere from 4-8lbs around that time until I got into a regular healthy eating routine. Salt has a lot to do with it especially that time of month. There's a lot of salt added to a lot of foods. I also found I'd have a big loss the week before my period too. So down 2 or more lbs that week, then up at least 4, but overall when I looked at the weight lost over a month's time it always evened out and generally had an overall loss for the month.

The chocolates were probably just bad timing. We're always confronted with temptations especially when there's a holiday coming up - it's all about moderation. It's not the end of the world if you overdid it with sweets as long as you acknowledge it and work hard to make up for it. It's never about being perfect...it's about being better then you were yesterday =]

Something else to think about - how active have you been in the past and how long have you been this active now? A bit of a gain could mean that you're still losing fat but you could be gaining muscle mass faster then you're losing the muscle at the moment...it's a good thing but it looks bad on the scale. That's why it's so important to measure your progress in more ways then one - like measuring inches lost or going by pant sizes or even just looking back at what you weren't able to do before that you can do now. If the gain is from muscle gain you'll know soon enough because you'll be burning your calories faster and you'll feel stronger and soon enough the fat will be melting off and the scale will be showing the results you're already seeing.

As for the fitness tracker - you have the right idea. Keep what you do regularly as the planned activity and if you do more that's a bonus but if you're always doing more than it's compensating for you'll need to make a change because your food tracker won't have you eating enough calories and you're weight loss will stall.

Thank you, I have a question. I have been eating well within the calorie alotment my dr has advised me, and up until today was losing weight. I did overeat the day after valentines (it was a late celebration), got back on track the next day and was up half a pound, no biggie, well exercised like usual yesterday, tracked my calories and drank all my water. This morning im up another pound. I should be getting my TOM this week or next week, I dont like using it as in excuse but just trying to figure out what I can do to keep the weight gain from staying there.

Also when spark gives you the recommended calories to eat each day, is that counting the exercise you say you do each week? I put I exercise 4 days a week and burn on average 400 to 410 calories according to my hrm watch per workout. Some weeks I like working out more than 4 days but I dont wanna change my fitness tracker for these days because I dont want to do these extra days all the time.

Thank you for the welcomes, today was my first day in a long time I tracked my meals for the day, still stayed well within my range of calories that my doctor recommended me on. I have already made changes for my future meals for my coffee creamer and salad dressings to drop several hundred calories each day. I switched from regular thousand island to bolthouse honey mustard dressing going from 145 calories for 2tbs to 45 calories for 2tbs. I went from my coffee with heavy whipping cream at 50 calories at 1tbs to half and half at 30 calories for 2tbs. Plus changing my snacks from starchy snacks to tea with stevia and a piece of fruit.

Well, here I am once again. Things got a little chaotic at home for a bit there with both sisters living with me. Well, the one is now gone. She moved to Illinois. The other one and her fiance are still with me; however, we have all settled into a good routine where I can finally get back to taking care of me. And my little sister has chosen to take this journey with me. And perhaps that is what I need - the enthusiasm of a 19-year-old. Anyway, I'm glad to be back and look forward to taking part in the challenges again. I've missed this place!

Hi!

So, you've always wanted to be a writer, cool. Sounds like you know all your excuses are excuses. emoticon so you have a good start. I started by writing a blog. It was on the first anniversary of my mother's death, so that is what I wrote about. And it has gone on from there.

A year later I went to a workshop called "Shut Up, and Write" by Judy Bridges. She is now my writing coach and she has written a book by the same title as the workshop that I think is one of the best books about writing I've seen. I also like Anne Lamotts, "bird by bird". But regardless, most of the advice really starts with you learn to write by writing.

BTW...my daughter is a writer and has four kids. She's been writing at night when they go to bed and has just finished her book...took her five years. Now she'll spend another year working with a coach and editors and find an agent.

Welcome back Deb =] It's great to have you on our team!!

I'm also a returning member!! Although I've been off and on for about 10 years now LOL. I think this time around I've figured out how to keep my motivation up and to just believe in myself instead of getting frustrated and giving up after a couple months.

If there is anything either of you need - feel free to message Me (MEETSADMAMA), Pam (PKJONES1200), or Lisa (SWEETLUCYGIRL).

Welcome to our team Sharon!! =]

I've always wanted to be a writer but my passion has always taken a backseat. I always say I will do it later in life when it's not so busy but that's just an excuse LOL. I'm famous for making excuses but over the last year I've been getting better at owing up to my issues instead of excusing. I'm on baby #5 at the moment and I'm sure that I could say that I don't have the time to get started but in all honesty, I'm just too lazy to sit and write as opposed to getting caught up on games and chatting when I'm online. How did you get started?

As for your marriage - I don't get people and never have understood people that have a problem with other "races". We don't give preference over colour of anything else, like cats or dogs, bread maybe and some people do about eggs, but I just can't wrap my brain around how people can have an issue with someone who has skin that isn't the same as theirs. Chances are they're the EXACT same as "us" and if not - wouldn't it be great to learn about their culture and their traditions?? How come British people are ok but not other races?? Sorry I ramble a lot. I just don't get it. I'm glad you're the kind of person that married for love and not just because they wanted to get settled down and do what everyone else is doing =]

Hi!

As my name indicates, I am a mime. I've performed for over 30 years, but because of an injury I stopped. When I recovered from the injury, I had lost my motivation. By then I was writing as my creative outlet, and because I adopted the "sit on your butt" life style of a writer, and slid into menopause, I gained weight and lost muscle mass.

Recently a school asked me to do a mime demo. I did and loved it, but was frustrated that my body was out of condition. The principal called afterwards and said the kids wanted me to come back and do a performance. ARRGGHH. If I did, I could injure myself. I told her next year.

I lurked at SparkPeople a few years ago but didn't do anything. On the day I decided to commit myself to getting back in shape, I got a "We miss you!" email from SparkPeople. Coincidence?

Anyway...I am married (37 years to the same beautiful man), we have two kids who married people we love, and we have six grandchildren (soon 7). Everyone is an artist of some sort, so we have wild, fun and loud gatherings. We are an "inter-racial" family though I hate that term. Biologically speaking there is one race with two sub categories: male & female.

I am a free-lance writer, and have been published on "Salon.com" under my real name: Sharon Nesbit-Davis. I also have bogs at a couple sites under the name "mimetalker", which can be found through google. Currently I am working on a memoir about my long term "interracial" marriage. (some said we'd never make it, but we are the only ones in both our families to remain married to the original spouse)

My "day job" is with a Regional Arts Council. I advocate for the arts in schools, train teachers, and create community programs for low income families so everyone has the opportunity to develop their talents. Love it, but am looking forward to retiring to write and mime full time...hopefully soon.

I look forward to working with this team as we help and encourage each other. And perhaps some days, kick each others' virtual butts. emoticon

Welcome to the team Kim =] It's great to have another new member!!

There are also free workout videos available on this site. Under the Healthy Living tab click on Videos and there's tons to choose from. Also watch for workout videos to be tossed into value bins in stores in the next couple months. Once the tread of losing weight dies off you'll start seeing them marked down. I also know a few girls who use YouTube to do Walking with Leslie Sansone and they enjoy it a lot too.

I too have a hard time finding ways to workout this time of year. I bought Xbox Kinect the one year for my older boys for Christmas so I bought a few games for myself for it to help me get some fitness in. I'd love to get a laptop in the future so that I can use the videos I suggested to you since I don't have room where my desktop computer sits to do a workout.

Wow, just read everyone's introductions! I am very new to SP and would love support in any way possible to help me reach my goals. So, my name is Kim and I'm 35. I have 2 girls, ages 2 and 4 and run a home daycare in Victoria, CAN. Mostly, I want to be healthy and a better role model for my kids, but my long term goal is to lose 80lbs. Currently 245lbs. I've always been overweight, but gained 20 after getting married and 15 after each birth. I have cut out sugar and lots of carbs and feel more energy already. I love food so every day is a challenge. I was tracking food but got to busy and lazy over the holidays. Have lost about 5 lbs. Next step is to start exercising! Maybe yoga? Don't really want to walk outside when it is dark and cold. Anyways, hope to be on SP at least once a day and get to know some of you!

Welcome to the team Sam =] It's great to have you here!!

I think it's great that you've already been working on getting healthier, but as you've noticed it is true that you can't just get in shape, you have to eat better too.

A word of advice for you, make sure you're not burning a lot more calories than your fitness tracker suggests. I'm not saying that if you are to cut back exercise, but what I mean is that you need to adjust your tracker to reflect what you're truly burning. This will help your calorie intake adjust for the extra exercise. If you have too big of a deficit then your weight loss will stall out. If you need help adjusting it, let me know and I'll help you out (it can be confusing the 1st time).

I used to love working out too but as I've gotten older and out of the habit it's felt more like a chore. I'd love to hear about how you learned to love exercise =] Maybe start a thread under the 12 Week Challenge Thread (the title of this thread will be changing next weekend) or under the general chat section. I can't for the life of me remember how I began to love exercise. I used to be big on strength training and now I just can't be bothered with it. I might do some cardio but I hardly ever do strength training even though I know it will help me in so many ways!!

Hello group!

I'm Sam, a 26 year old living in the DC area. I've been overweight for my entire life. After my wedding last year, it's only gotten worse. My husband loves to eat out, and like most men, he doesn't have to watch his portions. I, of course, slowly started increasing my portions as well. In the first two months we were married, I gained another 20 lbs of "happy weight."

In 2012, I decided I wanted to do something about it, so I started to hit the gym alone. I have grown to love working out -- in fact, if anyone ever needs advice, or tips for getting on the exercise train, please let me know! Unfortunately, while I'm fitter than I've ever been, I'm still the heaviest I've ever been. I have about 50 pounds to lose now, and I want it gone!

It's said that you can't beat a bad diet in the gym, so I'm here to clean up my act. I definitely need some support, so I thought I would join a smaller group :) I don't want to do this weight loss thing alone anymore! I'm tracking every bite of food that goes in my mouth through the Spark app. My next step is trying to figure out how I can eat at home more -- no more eating sodium-packed take-out.

Aside from working out, I love books, travel, new workout clothes, and shoes. I also love baking for other people.

Welcome both of you!!
We're all here for different reasons but the number 1 thing we have in common is that we're looking for support to get to our goals. Weight loss isn't easy and it's even harder when you have no one to help you at home. Here we can lean on each other when we feel like we're falling and we can help each other build up the motivation we need to succeed.

For me it's also a place I can vent to people who are already biased and a way for me to feel like if I quit, others will too. The accountability of knowing that others are counting on you may very well be one of the couple things that have helped me stick with my weight loss this time.

I'm so glad to meet you both and I look forward to being a part of both of your journeys =]

Good Night my name is Glory. I am 26 years old and am struggling with losing weight. I have always had a struggle to lose weight. In my family I have always been the fat one. In high school my weight was 150lb and to my mom i was still fat so I started trying different weight loss strategies. No matter what I did I was always still too fat. I ended up having a very low self esteem and eating all my feeling. I eat when sad. I eat when happy. I eat when mad. I have been struggling with my weight for so long I don't know what is normal any more. My biggest problem is eating when I don't feel good about my self which is almost everyday. I also don't have much time for my self. I am helping my parents who are both sick and I do all their errands while still trying to manage a full time job, a fiancé, and my own apartment which I am remodeling the kitchen for. I know that this all sound blah blah excuse but I work at a 9-1-1 center work shift and my schedule changes every month. I also try to work as much ot as i can seeing as i need the money to take care of my house hold bills and help my parents with there bills. I started this new weight loss journey in october and i lost 41 lbs. Meaning my starting weight then was 280lbs. That was as much as my dad weight and he is 6-7 inches taller than me. I also don't have much support at home other than my fiancé who loves me no matter how crazy I get he stands by my side. I love my parents but they act as if I don't have a life out of theirs. I am trying to get my life back on track and lose the extra pounds that I have accumulated. I think that my story is horrible and sounds self absorbed but I am trying to do things to help me out, because if I don't help me out who will.

Hey! I'm Trish, recently laid off (YAY!), returning to school in September 2013 and can no longer use the excuse "I'm too busy".
I've been fighting these 40+ pounds for 17 years give or take a few pounds over the years. I am done fighting. Now I'm giving them the knock out punch and they will not be getting back up on me EVER again.
I can say this right now...I'm not hungry, bored, emotional, tired and I'm in a great mood. The past few weeks I've been struggling to be upbeat and positive. (Christmas has never been one of my favorite times of the year) I'm making the changes needed to make my inside and outside match!
~*It's time for the person *I* see in the mirror to come out and match the person my *camera* sees*~ LOL!

~Trish~

Welcome to the team Julie!!! Great to meet you =]

When I started out in January I found myself in the same boat for eating. In fact I've been on and off this site for about 10 years now and eating is my #1 issue. Several years ago I used to love exercise and love weight training (haha not any more!!) but food was everything!! How do you say no to food?? You need it to live so you can't just not have it in the house. I ate when I was happy, when I was mad, sad, bored, tired, I always ate. I figured oh well I'll just up my exercise - I don't mind. But the weight wasn't coming off.

The key is baby steps. For the 1st week or 2 I just logged what I ate. I didn't try and cut back or anything. I just made it a habit to log everything that passed my lips (don't forget beverages!! Your lovely lattes pack some pretty amazingly high calories for what you're consuming).

Once you're comfortable with logging your food decide what you can either live without (I mean pretty much forever unless it's a special occasion) which for me is not very much, OR see what you can manage to cut in half portion wise. I was eating 3 times some of the portion sizes not realizing how much I was putting into my mouth. Don't worry about hitting your calorie target range at first. As long as you're seeing improvement - you'll still see results.

You'll get used to the process after a while and you'll get more and more excited that you're getting within that range as well as time goes on. I always found that if I made big steps - I would revert back to my old habits in a heartbeat. Ya so I'm not losing the weight as fast as I'd like to, but as I've learned over the last 10 years...if I had just accepted the weight I was losing instead of giving up, I would've hit my goal years and years ago. It's better for it to keep coming off then to give up and gain it all plus more.

Everybody is different and you'll find that many different people have many different ways that work for them. The hard part is figuring out what ways works for you =]

Good luck!! We're here for you every step of the way!!

Trina

Hi,
I'm Julie your newest member of this team. I'm not new to SP. I have been around for many years under a different name. Many of my 'friends' are no longer around and I just wasn't feeling it anymore so I started a new page under a new name. LatteMommy comes from I like my latte's, I also have a bearded dragon name Mocha Latte, I am also a mom of 2 boys (and wife of 18 years).

My story isn't anything unique. I was a normal kid, went to college, married and that's when the weight gain started. I am a fat active person. I participate in Triathlons, marathons, cycling rides, swimming etc. Even with all the activities I do, my weight goes up every year. I'm currently at the highest ever 215. I have tried and am trying all things to get my weight back down. I have had my thyroid tested just to make sure that was not the cause. Nope, it just poor eating. I have been to many nutritionist to see if they can help. Nope, gained weight. I have been to therapy to see if I can get my head straight. Nope. I am currently attempting a 21 day cleanse (detox) under dr guidance to try and get the cravings under control. that was 8 days ago and I have not been able to control what I put in mouth. I keep trying to make it past 'day 1' and so far the dinners are my challenge. Sitting down with the family and having only salad or veggies isn't cutting it so I eat what they are having and my day 1 keeps starting over. This isn't as hard as I making it out to be. I know its all in my mind.

My biggest issue is the lack of support. I have none. I am hoping for support from this team.

Thank you for the very nice welcome. I like that the team is small as you don't get lost along the way and can really get to know people and get and give needed support. Thanks for making me feel part of the team.

My name is Connie and my goal is to lose 50 lbs and get off high blood pressure pills

Welcome Connie!! It's so great to have you on our team!! You'll notice that we all tend to pull together as a strong group of friends would. The support here is amazing!! We encourage you to celebrate ALL successes, big or small (even when not weigh oriented) because I believe that keeping a positive attitude makes sticking to the plan so much easier!! Also feel free to vent out any frustrations you have and don't be shy to ask questions. We're all here to help. You'll find that we all have a lot in common but at the same time there is a lot that makes us all different in our situations.

I'm so glad that you have chosen to share your journey with us and even more excited that you've chosen to be a part of ours =]
