Thank you Terrie for that information and no, you wasn't being preachy. I need that advice because i was feeling like I am not getting enough calorie intake. I have changed it back to 1200 calories per day. I try not to eat carbs. If i can avoid them I do. I am motivate and pumped. I switch from the 30 day shred to the Insanity workout. Let just say it is a serious cardio workout. I feel my stomach fat jiggling as I am moving constantly. LOL! I am feeling much better about self and weight. I am more self conscious as to what I want to eat. emoticon emoticon

Hi I joined SP on July 22, 2012 but I just found this team today.
I am trying to get healthier and ease back into exercising.
I love to blog and try to post everyday. I'm very encouraged by
all the supportive people there are on this site.

I am SeniorSwimmer. I joined SparkPeople last Saturday. Behavior wise this week I had a good week. I'm learning to use the tools this website has. They're wonderful. The only one I had trouble with was the page where you can add your own recipe. That was tedious. It would only let me enter basil in tablespoons. So, I had to enter 32 tablespoons of basil, instead of four cups. (pesto) I enjoy most types of exercise. I usually eat healthy. I have problems with portion control. I eat way too much! I have a problem with binging, and when I binge, it is not on healthy food. Chips is the food of choice there. I did not lose any weight this week. emoticon I measured most of my food, and I did not sneak bites while I was fixing meals. I think the problem is with the word "most." I'm chalking it up to learning curve and going on from here.
Obviously, swimming is the exercise of choice. What else? I'm a musician. I play the oboe and the piano. I have an herb garden and flower beds. The herbs are doing great in this heat. The flowers not so much. I love cats. I have 2.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

you can use the nutrition tracker... plan the food you'd like to eat all throught the day and run the total report... it tells you how much you stick or deviate from the ideal nutrition plan. I tend myself to eat too much carbs and not enough fats, I can adjust that with the plan. I also use the trackers to check my salt and fiber intake, to see if I stay in the correct range.
Nutritious food you can include in your meals/snacks : whole grain products (bread, havermout, pasta, rice, ...), fruits, berries and veggies, proteins (eggs, poultry, milk, yogurt, cheese), healthy fat (olive oil, nuts...)...

On my way to an healthy BMI !

Hello Everyone,

My name is Maria. I am 30 years old and live in Easton, PA. I have used SP a few times but never seemed to have been able to stick with it. I am giving it another try because I like SP. I like how it has a group of people doing the same thing you are, it provides you with a large variety of meal options, and it also provides you with workout routines if you don't have any DVD's or want to change things up. I am very determined to make things happen and make it work this time. I'm hoping with the help of everyone here, i'll be able to do just that. I want to change my life for myself, but also for my children. I am currently 215lbs and want to reach my recommended weight of 140lbs. Thank you all for your time and support. Wish you all the best. We can do this.

emoticon to the team! emoticon on the weight loss in the spring! I think you will find this site just a s good as WW and it is free unless you go to a emoticon meeting which is only like 15.00 per month. I find those meetings very motivating but I will not get into that because I do not want to pressure anyone into that. Just take the time to look around the site and if you have any questions please just ask!

I just joined today and love this site so far. I think it's just what I need. I'm 56 and two years retired. I used to work long hours with lots of stress, and my health showed it. When I first retired I lost 40 pounds and have been able to keep it off, but now I want to get rid of the rest of my excess weight. I'm so happy to have found this website.

Hi I'm Scarlett, I'm a 20 year old college student. I just got back from a summer abroad and realized that I'd slowly gotten a little chubbier... so I'm trying to lose about 10 pounds by running and eating healthier. I'd love to find some people here to chat with so we can support and motivate each other!

Hi,
I am new to SP as of today. I joined after talking with my friend Th. I have been going to WW on and off and lost 12-15 lbs this spring. I am a fulltime working mom with a 2 1/2 yr old. My husband switched to a 2nd shift job this spring, which made it very difficult to continue to attend WW meetings anymore after work.
I really think this site will help me achieve my weight loss goals. I am very excited to be here!!

Hi I'm 46, female, married, no child. I work as nurse assistent.
I was pretty shocked to see that my BMI was so high (almost in the obesitas range) to I decided to take control over my weight instead of letting my weight control my life.
I work in healthcare, and it's really time to take care of my own health !

On my way to an healthy BMI !

Hi, I joined SP thanks to one of Coach Nicole's videos that I found on Youtube while looking for workouts to do. I'm looking to lose a lot of the weight I gained while in college (graduated a year ago). I kept putting it off, but I finally forced myself to start this week because I need to live more healthily. :)

Miranda~ Welcome to the team! I personally love SP! SP will be apart of my life forever! I have never done Weight Watchers but from what people have told me SP is better because we actually care about your success and how you are feeling. Good luck on your 5K...I am hoping to do one in November when it is a little cooler in Arizona. If you need anything please just ask!

I completely understand not losing the weight from having kids...me too but mine are 16 & 13! I have lost 50 pounds and have 30-40 to go! Just focus on 10 minutes of exercise. My advice is to put your "sweets" into small, single serving baggies and allow your self a certain number of them. I play a little game with myself i allow myself a treat if only I do this amount of exercise, step a number of steps before I can have this or that goodie i want. Just a thought. In my opinion SP is better than Weight Watchers because you really find people on here that really want to support you and will encourage you every step of the way. I recently hit a period of 2 months of no weight loss but the people here kept me going. If it hadnt been for SP I would have given up. SP is definitely here 24/7!

Hi Adriana~ Welcome back! I do not think of it as a diet...it is a new lifestyle for me. As for the exercise go for 10 minute increments and before you know it you have done 30 minutes or more. Talk to yourself in a positive voice! Positive thoughts=Positive results!

emoticon to the team! You definitely have the workout thing down. The only thing I would say is to make sure you are eating at least1200 calories per day. If you do not get at least that your body will go into starvation and if you are exercising at a high level and burning a lot of calories you will need to increase it even more. If you don keep your calories at 1200 your metabolism will slow and.or start going after your muscles for fuel.I don't mean to sound preachy...I just wanted to guide you so you are super successful! I cannot wait to hear about your success and get to know you better.

I am 36 yrs old with two teenage boys. I have lost 50 lbs so far and would like to lose 30-40 more. I am currently working with Jillian Michaels Shed & Shred and Bob Harper videos. I am starting TurboFire Advanced Schedule on August 13th. TurboFire was the workout I was doing when I lost the 50 pounds.

Hi, my name is LaBrenda and I'm 35 years old with two wonderful kids (15, 5). They keep me busy especaily my little boy. I want to lost 50 pounds withing 9 months. I wear a size 8/10 and trying to get down to a size 2/4 or 4/6 but, healthy. I have started working out for about 2 weeks straight by using the UFC Personal trainer for the xbox kinect and it has worked by strengthening my muscles. I joined LA Fitness as of yesterday and I enjoyed my first workout today. I walk everyday at work for about a mile within 15 minutes. I order the Jillian Micheals 30 day shred dvd for those days I can't make into the gym. I am determined and motivated at this point to get the weight down.
I am monitoring what I eat every daily including on the weekends. I stay below 1200 calories per day. I make sure I don't eat a lot of carbs. I have changed my meal plan by eating fruits, fresh veggies, peanuts, frozen yogurt, protein, egg whites, tea, and plenty of water. No juice No carbs/low carbs, and no junk food.

Hello, my name is Amy. I am 42 years old and have 3 kids (11,9,7). I have always struggled with my weight but now that I reached a point that my BMI indicates that I am obese I have vowed to take action! In the past I found that being part of a weight loss community has been very helpful, so I joined SP after reading a weight loss story in a magazine. Good Luck everyone!

Hi everybody! I scanned several postings and I might be one of the oldest team members. I just turned 67 yrs (young) and can't believe I've gained almost 30 lbs in less than ten years. I can look back on all the dining out I've done (really having a good time), and see what a mistake I've made!! What was I thinking?! I do look younger than my age but feel 20 yrs older! I've joined Spark because I'm determined to get this extra weight off and because I want to feel better. I have clothes that I can't wear anymore and refuse to throw them away because it's in my heart to get back to a healthy weight. Knowing myself, I know I need some structure/support/encouragement to get this job done! From the postings I read, it looks like I have found a good place. I look forward to working with this team for a long time...

Hi, my name is Adriana. I'm back on SP (again) hoping this time I can stick with it. I am 33 and have been trying to shed the pounds FOREVER. I think it's never worked because when I do real well with the diet I slack off on the exercise and vice versa. And of course, as soon as I lose 15 pounds I seem to slack off on everything. Here's hoping this time I can do better!

Hello my name is Paula and I am from Sault Ste. Marie Canada. I have a lot of weight to loose! I have struggled with my weight all my life and have never lost the weight I gained with my girls (who are now 9 and 6). I am a single mom and full time student (at 38) and find it hard to stay active while rushing from one activity to the other! Finding time for me is hard enough, but fitting in exercise is even harder! I also have a hard time not picking at the girls left overs!! I LOVE sweets and cant seem to allow myself just a little, I have to eat the whole thing! I am trying out Spark People because I can not afford Weight Watchers and need more motivation than 1 meeting a week! I am looking forward to getting to know everyone here!

Hi Everyone! Mine name is Miranda and I just switched to Sparkpeople today after dropping Weight Watches because 1) its expensive and 2) I wasn't losing weight any more. Since last summer I have dropped 80 pounds but still have more to go so I'm hoping to do that with Sparkpeople. I live in Texas and just recently started running again and am doing a 5k in a couple weeks. Good luck to everyone!

Hi all, I have just joined the site after needing to make a serious commitment to health. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and hypothyroidism and am trying to stay motivated to eat healthy and workout. I'm a college student who has a serious sweet tooth (but have been sugar free for about 1 1/2 weeks!). I look forward to getting to know other people who are on a serious health journey. :)

Autumnplum~ You can do it! It is just a matter of time. Believe and you will achieve (courtesy of Jillian Michaels)! She says that all the time in her Body Revolution videos. Try to find just one thing everyday that you like about your body and say it outloud. Today I told myself that I like the tan I got over the weekend. Positive thoughts=positive results!

I found it really helpful to do a vision collage, here is the link for that

It's great to be joining SP with all of you - even your introductions are inspiring! I'm 42, and I've struggled with weight since right after college. Two years ago, I lost 50+ pounds, then regained 10. Now, I have 40 pounds to go to a healthy weight. I keep trying hard to think of this as a health goal for myself and my family (my terrific sweetie and our twin girls, age 13), but I'm also vain enough to know that it's a "body in the mirror" goal too. Good luck to all of us as we start this journey together!

Greetings all.Today is day 2 and I am just getting around to posting. I was refereed to a great friend of mine in atlanta. I am living in Raleigh NC and yes, I am an emotional eater. I also have a yogini, triathelete, marathon runner with scoliosis hidden under a layer of fat that I am determined to melt away. I struggle with perfectionism, setting goals that are too large, arthritis, and sports related injuries… Looking forward to the voyage :)

Hi everyone, I'm looking forward to this journey and the challenges. Sort of emoticon I've decided to take off 40 lbs and continue with my lifestyle changes.

Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.

Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

Around the house I can walk ok but when getting up in the morning, and to go for a short walk, I need my polio crutches. My sciatic nerve is damaged, my left leg and hip are extremely weak. My left leg tends to give way so I have my crutches to keep my balance and to push myself up the steps to the porch. Not so much for actual walking.

Hello, I'm Ashley! I'm from Michigan (finally a cool morning!) and I'm 26. I was in excellent shape and was athletic in high school, but once college hit I've slowly gained over the last 6-8 years. I still check out as healthy from my doctor only with a scolding of stay active and eat healthy, but I usually can still scoot by. Well, my annual appointment is early September and I know I've gained a lot in the last year. I got married last fall, finished my Master's Degree, and started a very stressful job where all I did was eat on the go...eat everything! The job is under control now and I won't be getting married again or finishing school...so...what am I waiting for???

So I have about 50 pounds I'd like to lose to get back in shape. I'd like to be fit before I have a baby some day.

Yesterday was my day 1, and I exercised with the EA Fitness Sports Active 2 workout program I bought for our PS3. I am sooooo sore today, but it's a good sore. I haven't felt sore from being active for about 10 years. My muscles are screaming at me, but I like this too much to quit now.

The best part of everything, is that my husband is going to join me on this ride, too. We sat down and had a great serious discussion last night about our goals together. We are going to be completely honest with each other too. He signed up for Spark People as well, but he's only going to use the food and fitness trackers. Even though we're different heights and different body shapes, we weigh exactly the same--so now we've made it into a fun competition!

I really, really like reading the message boards! I don't know if I will have a lot to add, but just know I will be keeping up to date reading!

I just joined after reading the first chapter of Spark the book. I have been struggling with my weight since I had my son.....18 years ago!! I recently realized I am a emotional eater. I was recently laid off and figured I would see it as a blessing in disguise. This is my chance to start a completely new chapter in my life. My goal is to be 40, fit and fabulous! I will be turning 39 this year so I am excited for this new journey! I look forward to chatting with people that are going through the same thing I am! emoticon

Hi I'm Keisha...and I'm addicted to cupcakes. Oh man. Who am I kidding? It's not just cupcakes, it's any sweets. And bread, gosh I love bread. Lol! But I'm 8 weeks postpartum and gained almost 60 pounds with my new son. He's amazing but I've got to get this weight off of me. I learned about this site from a new mommy's chat group and those ladies swear by it. I'm here in Houston, TX and in addition to my son I have a 15 year old daughter and a foster child who's 1. So newborn...check, Toddler, check, Teenager...check. So I know it won't be easy. So far I love this tool and look forward to learning more about it, chatting with new friends, and meeting my goals!!!!

Hi, Chee, Laurie, Keebler32, Sue, Vjmck1818, & Tracy! Welcome to the team! I read all your intros and I can literally associate a little something from all of you! SP is truly a great site and has so much motivation on it!

Some of you may know but I have lost 50 pounds....some with SP and some without. But I can say without a doubt would not kept up on this journey if it was not because of SP! I just went through about 2 months of not losing any weight but as of last week I have started losing again. I was beyond discouraged but my Spark friends kept me going and motivated! The articles and recipes on here are amazing! If any of you need anything please just ask! As of right now i do not have a job but I am looking. So I am available a lot! I am trying to find a job where I work at home...I guess time will tell. I am currently studying to become a persoanal trainer because I Love helping people!!

Good luck everyone on all your goals!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Laurie,
My name is Tracy and when I read your post it was like seeing my own story. I can relate to everything you said. I am just tired of starting all gung ho and then a couple days into it I give up. I am really going to try this time. I am going slow this time. Little changes at a time. Good luck to you.

Hi,
I'm new and have just joined spark people. I would like to make healthy lifestyle changes to enable me to get off the dieting track. I have been overweight for most of my life. I want to stop the emotional and mindless eating and start to eat when I am physically hungry. To that end I have started a hunger tracker in addition to the food tracker. I hope everyone is having a good day.

Hi !

I'm Sue from northern NJ. I recently lost 16 lbs for my daughter's wedding but I am quickly gaining it back. It's become very apparent that I can't diet forever but I can make lifestyle changes and that is why I joined this website.

Would love to share ideas, and provide/receive support and encouragement.

Hi everyone,

My name is Laurie. I have been on this site a few times and like every weight loss attempt I give up after any odd amount of time. I keep telling myself I am sick of being fat but it's usually while eaing a twinkie. I need to start exercising and cooking healthy. I would like to have another baby but I don't want to be obese and pregnant again. My goal is to lose as much weight as I can in 1 year so that I can get pregnant again next summer. I also want to have a more active lifestyle so I can explore the world (our neighborhood) with my daughter.

Laurie

Hi everybody! :) I'm Chee and I'm new to Sparkpeople. My friend recommended this site to me a month ago and I haven't started till today. So far it has been exciting to be on this website when I got to learn how to keep track of what I eat, learn different exercise I can do, and meeting new people! I'm hoping that I can lose the weight and keep it off. I've tried many times before and failed and now I'm at my second highest weight in my life. I've already trimmed off 8 lbs before joining this website, but I need more to go and that's why I've joined this website. Thanks for reading.
