Hello everyone!
My name is Deann. I have always been a little over weight, but this past year I have gained over 20lbs. I am putting this to a stop and am finally going to do this!

Hi all,
I have been on the roller coaster known as Dieting for about 12 years now. In 2010 I got the lap band which did help me lose about 40 lbs but I still need to lose about 70 more. I got stuck so I decided to do something different---the Couch to 5k. It's hell for me because I hate running but I love how I feel afterwards. I also joined Spark because it seems like a great place for support, recipes, and making new friends.

Hi all. My name is Susan, but my childhood nickname was Susie Q...how cliche, but that is my member name break down. Ess Cue can do.

I am an emotional over-eater and I have been on three major diets in my life. None of them worked. (I won't name them but here are their descriptions.)

1. Count the points. I failed at this one because I started to play games with the points. And before long it wasn't about the food or activity, it was about the numbers...and numbers are inedible. Also, this diet triggered gallstones...so when I became emotional about that surgery, and recovery the numbers I counted made me hungrier and more emotional and BAM...I gained back twice what I lost.

2. The one with shakes, bars and soup with under 900 daily calories. I failed at this one because while I was all gung-ho during the 4 month regimen, as soon as food was re-introduced my body and mind responded to the previous deprivation by eating everything in large amounts. I stuck to healthy foods, but I ate 4 or 5 times the amount of calories I should have. I gained back 2.5 times what I lost.

3. Hypnosis with a hunger scale and tapping techniques. This failed because the premise of "no forbidden foods" became a loophole I could manipulate. I lost all trust in myself. I also lost the feeling like I can successfully change my life. And of course the weight returned with a vengeance.

All three of these diets were "prescribed" by my doctors.

So...here I am at age 42 and I am going to use SparkPeople and apply everything I have learned and everything I am learning. And I am going to focus on my whole life...not just numbers, or low-calories, or silly mind games.

Here is my slow and steady game plan:
1. I am going to track everything with honesty.
2. I am going to eat when I am hungry.
3. I am going to keep my goals in front of me and use failure as a a speedbump instead of the end of the road.

My weight loss journey will be approximately one year and I hope to have made some friends doing it. Then in maintenance, I hope to make more friends and help them on their journeys.

Hi, I joined once before too. I lost ten ponds and then slid back into old habits. I have a new mantra, "Only I can change my habits"! I'm hoping that two will be my charm. I've already lost 5lbs in the week since I joined, and 10lbs since I started my "lifestyle change" a month ago...btw how do I add a weight ticker?

Hi there! My name is Samantha and this is my third time using Spark people. I am hoping third times a charm. I won't give up this time and hopefully I can get all the help I need from you guys! I never told myself I would reach over 180 and I did. Just two weeks ago I weighed in at 186, and decided it was time for a change. Today I was 182 and getting down there. Now my goal weight is to be around 110 and fit into a bikini by next summer yay!

Hello! My name is Marilyn. I have been using SparkPeople for some time but my computer messed up and would not allow me to log in to my SparkPeople acct. I had to re-register. I got sick a few weeks ago so was unable to exercise and was having problems eating. I lost about 5 lbs but starting to eat again and gaining the weight back. I am determined to get this weight off. I need to lose about 55 lbs.

Hi Melissa,

It is nice to "meet" you and find someone who is almost the same weight as myself. I also have 3 (older) children and am looking for a buddy online to support my weight loss effort.

I am trying to find my way around Spark, add me as a friend if you can find my page.

Have a great evening,

Caren

Hello everyone! I just joined three days ago. Ten years ago I signed up for the military weighing 130 lb. In 2008 I separated, had three kids, and never weighed myself because I was nursing or pregnant and not wanting to be bothered with dieting and exercise. My baby just weaned recently and I weighed myself for the first time and saw that I'm 180 lb and was honestly shocked! I feel like I've been running around after toddlers for years, but just getting heavier. Now's the time to do something! I've never turned to an online community for support, but I've recently moved to a new area and don't even have a walking/gym buddy. I'm excited to have a forum full of people on the same journey, all offering information and motivation. It's nice to meet you all!

- Melissa

Hi everyone, I just joined Spark this afternoon. I am one week away from my 45th birthday and need to make some big changes in my life. Spark looked like a great place to meet other people who want to lose weight and get in shape. I hope you will add me as a friend and that we can support each other on this journey. Caren

Hi, my name is Catherine. I've been a sparker a few times, and after losing a few pounds, fall off the wagon again. I've still been losing weight, but not as fast as I'd like and not in the right way. (I've been drinking Slim Fast low carb shakes--low carb just because they have a ton of protein and it is easier for me to load up on carbs on my other meal than it is for me to load up on protein). This time around, I am looking to lose about 16 pounds, but I may decide on more or less, depending on how I feel as I go around.

Hey guys! It's nice to meet all of you. I joined Sparkpeople about a year ago and had some success. Since then, I've, well, added a little padding and I think it's time to let it go! I love China (I lived there for a couple of years), yoga, and playing any kind of game emoticon

Hello-
Nice to read your comments. I still drink 1-2 liters of diet coke a day. I drink a lot of water too. Feel free to write me all that you eat on the sly. I will not berate you unless you want me to but maybe just listing it all and being accountable will help. I would be glad to let you know how I am doing also. I have 60 big ones to lose and it is going to take a while. I started with my 3 goals and today is really my first real day. Good luck and I would love to be your spark friend. Sjo

So doing something like this is way out of the norm for me, but I come from a family of fairly unhealthy eating/lifestyles, and want to break the cycle. I'm hoping if I get real heavily involved quickly, it will help with consistency, fast breaks, right?

My name's Nate, and I am a recent transplant from Arizona to Utah. I have a 3 year old who is my life, and I want to make sure I can be active and ready to play at a moments notice. I've deluded myself for a long time that I can take care of myself without tools like this, but my expanding nature shows me I'm wrong. I hope this works, I'm digging into this program!

Hi Beauty, I joined for the first time just last night, really hoping to lose at least 10kg, I've had some health problems in recent years that have caused me to slowly gain weight, but now I know what the problems are (Wheat intolerance provoking IBS) I can now deal with it all a bit better.

Can I ask a question about the food diary part? Can you add your own foods to the list? I was looking for some things to add to yesterdays diary that weren't on the list.

Good luck with your journey's everyone!

Hi there! I'm new to Sparking, actually just heard about it today on an article I read. Have been trying to lose weight on my own for the last year or so, without a great deal of success. I've been pretty good about the exercising portion of losing weight (for the most part) as I enjoy going to the gym and now that my swimming pool is open for business, I'll be doing that daily as well. I've accomplished some pretty important goals as far as food is concerned the last few years - I rarely drink anything but water anymore (used to drink 1-2 liters of soda a day), I eat more fruits and veggies than I used to (you can only go up when you start from zero), but I'm still having problems with the closet eating. When I worked outside the home, it was easier to eat fairly healthy, because I always felt people were judging my food choices and that tempered my choices. But now that I work from home, the closet eating has become a huge problem. I'm hoping that having sparkpeople to help me be accountable on the computer I sit in front of every day will help me to break this habit as well.

If you think you can, or if you think you can't, you're probably right. Henry Ford? (maybe Mark Twain;)

Hello!
I'm a returning sparker. A couple of years back I lost a good chunk of weight but in the past year it has crept back on. I've been stumbling around partially being a sparker but I have decided that I really need to jump back in and engage in sparking completely. I love to read, sew quilts, bake, cook, and walk the beach...oh yeah, I also like to eat!! emoticon Today is the first day of the "new" me! emoticon

Hi, my name is Pam and I will be 65 next month. I like the idea of counting down for a year. I also like knitting. I was a Sparkperson a few years ago; I liked it and I did pretty well. Now I'm happy to be a Sparkperson again and I look forward to working along with you. You are doing great!
