Annette, having been born without a shy bone in my body, I cannot identify with you completely, but being a person who feels deeply for others, I can sympathize and offer support. I would like to PERSONALLY invite you to come to the NFIT FITNESS fair on May 11th. I will hold your hand, stand right beside you, and do all I can to keep your nerves in check. I truly believe that when a person steps outside their comfort zone they get a feeling of empowerment and strength that carries them through and leaves them feeling accomplished and enabled. I think if you came to the event and stood among and were inspired by some of the elite athletes there, as well as the people like you and me who are trying to get healthier, your confidence would get a great boost. It's scary, I understand, but I think you should do this!
Please consider coming. I will most likely be the heaviest person you see there. I'm very short (4'10) have red hair, am in my early 50s, and will be wearing a hot pink shirt that says FITNESS IN PROGRESS. This event is to benefit my friend and former coworker Monica Caban. You may have seen her on the news many times over the last 6 months. She is the IronMan triathlete who was struck by a car while training on her bike for her second triathlon. Her spinal cord was severed and she was told she would never walk again. Guess what? She has taken her first steps! She still has a long road, but she doesn't give up on her dreams...and neither should we! I hope this link works in case you want to check it out. If you are on facebook you can look up NFIT Women's Magazine's page.Let me know if y0u decide to go and I'll send you my number so we can meet up. There will be other sparkers there as well! We can do this! www.facebook.com/events/161702647327 73 9/
Welcome, Annette! I'm so glad you posted on the team message board to say hello. While this site can look intimidating, it is full of friendly people who are happy to point you to whatever information or resources you are looking for. As MJ stated, this team is a lot of fun, and the meetups are a boost of encouragement. I look forward to seeing you on the message boards and hopefully at a team meetup!

Hi MJ. Thanks for your kind words. These meets sound like fun but also scary. You see in a nut shell, I have been living in my hubby's shadow for 22 yrs and lost myself and my voice along the way. I am a nervous wreck when it comes to meeting people. Haven't had a single job in as many years, I have reached a point in my life where I have to do something for myself and learn how to be out in the public sector. I have been seriously thinking of going to school to take up a course in possibly medical coding but in the mean time I have to get back my confidence and self-esteem by losing weight and taking baby steps towards working again. So to lose 35 lbs is something I must achieve for peace of mind, health, happiness. I hope that maybe going to a meeting may start helping me open up. Many Thanks, sincerely...........Annette
Don't let the site intimidate you, Annette! The people are friendly and willing to help, so take your time and learn a little as you go along. We have a meet up in May which you can read about in the meet ups forum on this page. I always say just dive on in and show up for meets and greets. There is no judgement and nothing but friendly fellowship and acceptance allowed on the San Antonio team. We will have a challenge coming up in May as well. In June we will be having a dinner get together. Hope to see you participating and look forward to getting to know you. Welcome!
Hi Annette! Me too, I've been a member for a while but still have physically gotten involved. I would like too! I hope summer will bring more activities, the school year is tough for me. Hope to see everyone soon.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
