I've had similar experiences where my change has been inspirational to some of my clients and helped to motivate them toward taking positive actions...even actions that aren't necessarily weight-related.

It feels so good to see the "Spark" catching on!

kiwi doc -

It's has been interesting how many patients have commented on my "loss" - I remind them that it is my "gain", so to speak - several have said it is time I, and others, "walk the walk" and not just jaw about weight loss and health.

Good Luck

WEEVA186,

I just realized (as I was looking to see if anyone was here from my metropolitan area)that you are showing up as the only member from NZ. And here I was griping because I seem to be the only one from my city. Hang in there, mate!

DDOORN,

I'm sure the behavior modification aspect of SP is obvious to you if it is to me. That's so cool!

Welcome BACK on board!

I'm an Intensive Case Manager for the severe, persistently mentally ill during the day and have a small private psychotherapy practice at night as I also happen to be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

SP is definitely the place for great changes!

Welcome to SP!!! emoticon
I am a Nurse Practitioner and my husband a Family Practice doc in a rural area. Man, it is hard to walk the talk. We both are emotional eaters and so after a day of very difficult patients, heavy responsiblities, paperwork frustrations, and long hours, we just want to come home and eat "comfort foods." Definitely don't feel like exercise--just want to veg. Unfortunately being healthcare providers and especially in a rural area, being a health care provider is more a lifestyle and not so much a job--there is no getting away from your job, although dh is no longer taking any more pregnant patients and will no longer be delivering babies so that will decrease being on call 24/7. Still...you know as a physician the mental strain it is.

We logically know WHAT we need to do, but it is difficult.

Sparkpeople is such a wonderful site! I have to say, I recommend it to my patients all the time. (Maybe I shouldn't do that, but I feel it is such a great resource and so adaptable.) This summer I started a challenge group and I did pretty well. I was accountable to other people and although when I started Sparkpeople, I was NOT interested in the community part of it and only really wanted to use the nutrition resources, I ended up LOVING the contact with other sparkers and I do feel it is key for a successful weight loss.

I ended up loosing 20 pounds and actually started training for running a marathon! I found out that I actually LOVE running! HA!

Well, I got sick and then had bad internet connection (rural area) and so I was "off" sparkpeople. I have suffered. Illness kept me from exercising and now I am back at square one and have to start my training all over and then I have gone back to my poor eating habits...sigh....

But good ole sparkpeople is there for me 24/7 and I am excited about getting back on the band wagon.

I hope that you will see from my example that sparkpeople can be such a nice help and I hope you have lots of success in not only obtaining a healthy lifestyle but also for example for your patients and family! (I do have alot of people curious at how I lost all my weight.)

Good luck to you!!!!!!!! And again WELCOME!

I agree, sometimes I dont get my assignments in on time, definitely don't get anywwhere near the recomended amount of sleep (for me four hour or none is not uncommon. I've become sick because of this and the fact I forget to eat. So I've got to realize I can't save the world. If I'm not well I'm not doing the best job I can.

Super to see countries far and wide joining in the fun here @ SP! You're going to love all the knowledge, wisdom and support SP has to offer.

I'm a psychiatric social worker in upstate (rural, not Big Apple) New York State.

welcome kiwi doc
I guess its good that we're such good caregivers & give our all to patients, but comes a time to be a little selfish, knowing the only way to continue to care for others, if to take care of us first.

Good luck

Hi everyone, I'm just new. I'm a Family Doctor in a small town in NZ. I'm losing weight to improve my overall well-being and try to cope with my stress levels. It's for me mainly, but I hope it will help me be a better role model for my family and community-especially my patients. Best wishes to everyone.
