I have found a terrific Swing Dance club that meets weekly which I try to get to...although the distance (20 miles) and cold, yucky weather keeps me from making it a regular outing. I can "get by" but would like to be better at dancing as it pulls my love of music and moving my body together in one fell swoop! :-)

“There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.”

When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world

I love your question, Don! One of my best friends is actually a (male) Zumba instructor so maybe that's why we have about three guys at our studio who are regulars...and about 40 women, of course. I think it's a combination of the neon and the high calorie burn that the gals like.

As an instructor, I try to tailor my classes to the students who are attending - a little less shaking and shimmying when the boys are around! Maybe you can find an instructor near you who has the same habit?

I also do Latin ballroom, so if you can't find a Zumba class near you that feels friendly (and I know that some ladies can be fierce), you might want to try beginner salsa classes at a dance studio. Many studios offer free intro classes so that you can see the instructor's style, and those classes are a great way to make new friends while still burning 300+ calories per hour.

Worst case, the new Xbox Zumba game is more fun than I would have believed. I recently helped demo the game at our local Microsoft store and gathered a prett big crowd to sweat along.

Welcome aboard! Looking forward to having you share your Spark with us!

Perhaps you have a tip: why is it that Zumba seems to be for women only...love Latin music and have been trying to get into dancing, but am intimidated over the idea of Zumba. I don't mind standing out in a crowd a bit but that seems beyond my tolerance. Is there such thing as sum for couples? :-)

Congrats on the PT certification coming up!

Don

Ps...thx for the kettlebells, good timing, here I go off to ST & spinning!

Hi y'all, I'm Elizabeth and I currently live in Texas. I have been a licensed Zumba instructor for a year and I am sitting for my ACSM Personal Trainer cert in about 2 weeks. My fitness passions are Zumba, TRX, plyometrics, and interval training...but I am always looking for new ideas and formats.

I was obese/overweight for the first 29 years of my life due to a combination of medical and lifestyle factors. Now I've lost the weight and am keeping it off no matter what life has brought (3+ years), and I am so grateful for the opportunity to inspire others to fall in love with their lives!

I have been two-timing Zumba with a corporate job for the last year, but I am opening my own fitness studio this spring for personal training and small group classes. (Wish me luck!) I look forward to "meeting" everyone in this group and continuing to learn together.
