I wear the pedometer whenever I can so the steps can count as my exercise when I cant swim!

Thanks. I know that I walk at least 6000 steps a day at work and always take the stairs. I just have a hard time counting that in my exercise for the day. I also just tried cooking my chicken for the week on Sunday. I break it up into ziplocks and label what day they are for and have a bag to use through the week for my husband to throw in a salad or whatever. Anyway thanks for the suggestion :)

Exercise doesn't have to be a big-deal workout at a gym. Just keep moving, in some way, as much as possible because exercise really is cumulative. Five minutes brisk walking here, ten minutes there, the stairs instead of the elevator, it all adds up.

As for eating, I've stopped buying anything prepared and bring healthy homemade cooking from home. I've got this diet book with many what they call MLAs...make lots ahead meals. They're super healthy, the family will like them, and you can fill & freeze stacks of Ziplocs with the leftovers. Just take 'em out in the morning, they'll thaw during the day, and be ready to just reheat in the evening. No fuss!

This home prep of food has been one of my biggest breakthroughs. Nothing's as healthy as what you make yourself -- you know what's in it. BYW the MLAs are all 1-skillet cooking. You just sautee & throw in frozen veggies. You can also take food to work in plastic bowls. As for soda/drinks, I love Crystal Light Orange. It has just as many vitamins as regular juice without all the sugar.

Hope this helps, best of luck!

I take a WW TV dinner and yogurt or pudding(diet). I keep a bottle of fat-free salad drsg in the fridge at work. Keeping track of what I eat before I go to work helps me to know if I can have a snack on the floors as I make rounds in the evening.

Thanks for the urine image...that could help. LOL. Flavored water may be the key to my soda habit, I'll have to give it a try. Also packing a lunch is a great idea, I am not sure why I haven't, I always packed snacks when I worked nights. I'm sure I'll like getting up earlier to exercise once I can make it my routine. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions/welcome/encouragement!!

GKGHSMITH, I have recently started drinking flavored water. It's much better than soda. I love the strawberry-kiwi. Think of Mt. Dew as urine. I never drank it for that reason. It looks just like that to me. I have read that if you picture favorite foods in a disgusting way, it helps you stop craving them.

I go to bed early and have lights out by 9pm so I can wake early to exercise in the mornings. When I worked days I ALWAYS packed my lunch, caf food was too tempting!

WTG on your weight loss! Keep up the momentum...browse the motivational articles here at SP, check out some of the member's SparkPages and blogs. SP is THE place on the 'net for knowledge, wisdom and support.

I second the idea of bringing your own healthy snacks and food. It is a rarity that I ever drink soda...water water water...I drink whenever I *think* I'm hungry...drown it out...lol!

Welcome!
I totally understand the cafe food deal! I solved that problem by packing my meals to work. This way I don't have to worry about whether my lunch/dinner is going to be healthy or not. Breaking pop is REALLY hard...I went through a withdraw when I took it out of my diet...but I haven't drank any pop for over a year now! I don't even like it now! You just have to figure out what works for you and looks like you are on the right track with the 8 pound lose already. Best of luck!

welcome,GKGHSMITH ...............so nice to meet you........have you tried bring you own food, that way you have some control over what you eat.........you could try those flavored waters as a change from the pop......for exercising, perhaps on your days off you could do more for longer and on the days you work perhaps you could do 10min here and there that could add up daily........worth a try??????
how wonderful is that losing 8 lbs!!!!
kudos to you, keep that momentum up and you well on your way.............lita

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.

When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world

After working L&D on nights for 6 years I got a nice day job in maternal fetal medicine. I thought for sure it would be better for me to be awake and functioning during normal day light hours, and it is better for family time. I never would have thought that I would gain, at least 15 pounds, with the switch. Eating the hospital caf food, where everything is fried, destroyed my already overweight self. I am getting back on track. My largest challenges. Drinking enough water, all those nights gave me an incredible caffeine addiction in the form of diet mtn dew- which I gave up during pregnancy, but took back up shortly after. It is so hard to choose water over soda. Second challenge, finding time to exercise. I have 2 children and work full time, how do people do it? I know that if I could wake up at 0530, that would be ideal..I just really love that snooze button. Anyway, so happy to have joined, I know that my success can be found on SP. Already 8# down. Yeah
