Good morning everyone. I am starting my first day of pulmonary rehabilitation today after a hospitalization for asthma. Wish me luck. I am excited about finding out what I can do safely now and getting some help setting goals. I listed my goal for therapy to be able to do a 5K charity race at the end of therapy, One thing I have learned is that it is important to get help. Just pushing myself too hard has caused me to have large lungs, but the lungs are floppy at the bottom and hold trapped air. I am working on learning to use "pursed lips" breathing now

I don't know if it works for everyone, or just for me as I struggle with dry air, but when I'm exercising and my asthma flairs up, I need to concentrate on breathing through my nose. It helps to humidify the air before it hits my lungs. It might work for you. Good luck.

I was diagnozed with "asthma and allergies" in May 08. It took us several weeks to find the right medicine, advair. Around the same time I began running. My doctor encourage it. I have had very few asthma attacks since the diagnosis. Saturday I ran a competitve 5k in Dearborn, Mi and my asthma flared up. I decided to complete the run. It was hard . By the end it felt like i was breathing glass. But I needed to do this. I ran my best time to date that day. I decided I would join an asthma team too. so here i am 30 yrs old, a single mom, free lance writer, customer service rep in Metro Detroit
