Hello, I am so new I'm still searching through the Spark people site and learning all about it. I missed my journal entry yesterday because I couldn't remember where it was I found it on day 1. Oh well, tommorrow is another day. I am 37, was diagnosised with asthma at age 30, but have probably had it all my life. Both my boys have asthma as well, I like to call them my human barometers as they typically get ill 2 days in a row before we experience significant weather changes. (So this winter was a long one.) I have severe allergies to anything that is outdoors, but I love being outside....so I have frequent sinus headaches and infections. (only thing that's ever helped was the old aersol rhinocort) I am doing some physical activity at least 30 minutes a day...this week I have been able to get more in.

Hello, I'm new here. I'm so glad a group like this exists because weight loss is a different process when you have asthma. I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Alison. I'm almost 23 and I've suffered from severe asthma my whole life. My problem with weight started during my freshman year of high school when I contracted ABPA (see link below) which severely impacted my asthma. Their is not cure for ABPA but to control it I was put on large doses of prednisone that I did not come off of for over 3 years. The prednisone caused rapid weight gain and caused me to be constantly hungry. I gained over 100 pounds in one year. My asthma was also a major problem during this time so I was home bound and had to have a home tutor instead of going to school. Finally after a few years of the prednisone the ABPA went inactive and my asthma improved enough for me to start college.
I should have started to work on losing the weight then but I had become used to a sedentary lifestyle and I was hoping the weight would drop back on its own after I stopped the prednisone. It didn't drop and I've been slowly gaining weight over the last few years.
I decided to come back to sparkpeople and try weight loss again when I got on the scale and saw I almost weighed 300 pounds. I'm here because I want my life back and I'm tired of carrying around all of this fat. I look forward to meeting all of you and hearing your stories and I look forward to us slimming down together.
Hi! I'm new to the group and spark people. I have had asthma for years and have noticed that the heavier I have gotten, the worse my asthma is. I have never been heavier and also never had as many asthma problems as I do now. I am hoping to lose weight to get in all around better health and maybe get a better handle on my asthma. I joined about a week ago and today I weighed and I have lost 5 Pounds Yeaahhhhhhh!
