I made a concoction to use up a large package of chicken drumsticks, and a bottle of Frank's Chile n Lime Red Hot Sauce. Just put the drumsticks in and poured the bottle on.

However when I put it in SparkRecipes the sodium was astronomical. In future I will definitely look at the sauce label before I buy; but this was from old from when I still bought bottled stuff instead of making my own, and, I didn't read or care about the sodium label. In fact the bottle was severely outdated; that's how old it was. Definitely pre-Spark. Before Spark? BS?, LOL.

Frank's is DELICIOUS but the sodium is sky high. One teaspoon is 200 mg sodium.

I batchcooked 2 cups of white rice in 4 cups of water on the stovetop, put some of the finished plain rice in a bottom of a bowl, and ladeled the meat-falling-off-bone chicken spicy chicken on top. OMG it was so delicious I scarfed it down. I ate it with cucumber salad.

Used up Pantry Items rice, chicken, and Frank's Chile n Lime.

This is soooooooo simple and soooooo delicious but the sodium makes it too unhealthy, so I will re-do the recipe next time as something else.

So I'm happy with getting the batchooking of the rice and the chicken drumsticks, even if the recipe didn't turn out to be healthy.

The following is something I've been wanting to try for awhile now, I will let you know how it turns out, and post it on the "Other" Recipe Thread if it's good.

APPLE CINNAMON CROCKPOT OATMEAL
*2 cups of oats - I'm using Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (not steel cut, not Irish) and will let you know what happens.
*1 chopped apple
* tsp. cinnamon
*4 cups of water

Combine in your slow cooker. Cook on low overnight and sweeten to taste. Serves 4.
170 calories, 2 g fat

I'll measure how much this makes when it's done, before I eat any, to quantify how much each of the 4 servings contain.

Yikes, I really need to spend more time with this team. I need to read through this to get good ideas. I have a SP Corn chowder recipe in the crock pot now. I made Roasted Red Potato Casserole earlier this week and it was great. I made it with cesar dressing and followed some of the pointers in comments.. My man asked for left overs last night.

We made pot roast with potatoes & carrots today. We seared the meat along with some sauted onions, peppers and garlic (I've been cutting up onions & peppers and keeping them in baggies with the ounces written on the outside). I also used left over 15 bean stock for half of the liquid. It came out awesome, I was so happy! We each had one serving of everything and there's three servings left for us to use as leftovers. I bought a much larger roast to make next weekend :)

HCARTZ I learned from $5 Dinners blog to add a little vinegar, it leaches calcium from the bones and makes the broth calcium rich. I'm doing it next time.

Today I have chick peas in one crockpot, I'm going to cook up to make hummus, I'm soaking a whole bag. When they are cooked I'll freeze half and make hummus out of half.

Today in the large crockpot I have a turkey breast, it will be done for Sunday's after-church dinner.

The other day I threw a frozen chuck roast in the crock pot with water, intending to make beef stew.

Then found a stroganoff recipe, and decided to use up some sourcream that needed used up.

But when I went to get the mushrooms out of the fridge they were bad. So no stroganoff. I froze 2 containers of beef broth, and decided to make stew again.

I'm just now getting back to making the stew. In my 5.5 qt Rival I have the cubed meat, 1.5 cups broth, flour, carrots, 3/4 of a 16oz bag of pearl onions, celery, and potatoes, with seasonings to taste.

When I did the carrots and celery for the stew I doubled them, then cut half of each big size for stew and half smaller diced.

To the smaller carrot and celery pieces I added 2 chopped onion, 2 cups split peas, and 2 cups frozen ham chunks from the freezer. Am looking forward to split pea with ham soup.

I somehow overlooked that I'm out of chicken and beef stock. It crept up on me. I don't use bouillon as it's not healthy, and it's super simple as well as economical to make beef, chicken, or veggie broth at home so I batchcook and freeze it. I would otherwise buy organic broth, which is expensive.

I put a 3lb, frozen solid chuck roast in my 5.5qt crockpot. Added 2 fresh chopped onions, and water to the top. When the beef had cooked for awhile I fished it out, cubed it and trimmed fat on a cutting board, and put it back in. I intended to make beef stew.

As a result of cleaning out the fridge and finding sourcream that needs to be used up, I didn't do the beef stew.

Tonight I ladeled all the broth into freezer containers, reserving 1.5 cups for the following recipe which I will make with the beef cubes, use broth instead of wine, and for which I can also use up the sour cream:

Crock Pot Stroganoff

Cathie you are more than welcome to ALL my snow!

Okay you guys, the rest of you are making me HUNGRY!! YUM YUM YUM!

Does anyone do my trick: buy a tenderloin when they are having a super sale, less than $1.99 a lb; then bring it home and cut it up with an electric knife into 1-inch thick pork chops? Then freeze in single bags, put the single bags in a freezer bag. So if I need 4 I can take out 4; if I need 1 I can take out 1, etc.

Yums, Leslie! I LOVE sauerkraut,ESPECIALLY over mashed potatoes! However my husband hates it (why did I marry him, again? Hee hee), , and my son will eat about a tsp. of it. Lol. But I think I should make some of that up the next time they go away together!
I ended up throwing mine frozen, in the crock and tossing in a can of cr. of mushroom and cr. of chx soup in with it. We ate it over brown rice. I had to exercise a little extra that night...
Carol, you can send some of your snow over to Oregon! We don't get enough in the valley!!! I love it!

I just cleaned the chili crockpot . . . and made 4 labeled freezer containers. Yum yum yum it's cold here, the chili is very warm and spicey and tasty!

When I do pork chops in the slow cooker, I use the boneless ones, and arrange 3 of them in the bottom of the crockpot, sprinkle whatever seasonings you like on them (I use dry mustard, garlic and thyme), add one onion sliced into rings and top it all with a can or jar of sauerkraut. Cover and cook on low about 8 hours. Delicious with mashed potatoes!
