I lightly oiled my crock pot, then put 2 Cups of water in it. I washed the squash and put a few slits with a paring knife into the squash then put it in the crock pot whole. Cooked it on low for about 4 hours, till it gave a little when pushed on with my finger.
Removed the squash to a platter, cut in half, removed seeds and it came out really tender and delicious.

Hi everyone yesterday I went to the doctor just for my usual 3 month check in and found out that since the beginning of the year I have gained 13lbs back. I told him that I have cut down on what I been eating and said what is next on losing this weight. All he said to me is get up and move around a lot more but be careful.

I thought man that is so helpful so been looking up more chair exercises and found out there is a lot more out there then I thought there was.

Thinking I need to figure out how to get the umph up to get moving knowing that once I get started with a task I stay on it until it is done for that section at least. Then I need the umph to get up the next day to do the same thing.

I told dh that maybe I should just walk around the house a lot to get in 2 or 3 miles a day going in a circle until this rain stops. But that is boring to do that every day several times (I know excuses, excuses). When the weather is good enough to go outside I can take one dog to the corner and back, (since we have three dogs) that would be three trips to the corner and back. the round trip is about 1/2 mile so that would get me 1 1/2 miles a day as long as I keep it up.

Weather here in California is raining, in the summer time it can get up over 100 at times. So need some suggestions on how to make the exercise fun so it would be more like play time so to speak.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

Shirley

I love to use my crock pot and do quite often. For the last two months I have picked recipes, put them together and froze them for later days. Each evening I pull out my bag of food and put it in the refridgerator so it will defrost just a bit. It makes it easier to take it out of the bag in the morning. I put it in the crock pot before work and come home to a delicious smelling house. I have sloppy joes in the pot for tonight. I only have one dinner left in the freezer, so I guess I need to put some more together this weekend.

Last week I used my crock pot 3 times. I made homemade chicken and rice soup in the crock pot, then the next day I made chili a few days later I did split pea soup. It snowed twice in 10 days and we had 14 inches of snow. Great crock pot weather time.

Hi I lost track of me since the beginning of this year. Been going through a lot of things with going to doctors and finding out that on top of my back problems, I have OA in my knee and bone spurs in my left knee.

I been facing a lot of stress, dealing with my second daughter. She decided to move out in the middle of the night and only take what she could easily put in one suitcase, and move to her bf's which we got told is homeless. Plus she changes bf's at least once every 1 to 2 months.

I collapsed at my son's wedding on Jan 4th, while I was dancing with my 3 yr old grandson. after that is when I found out about my knee problem.

My oldest daughter that lives in WA state and I are making a goal to lose 20 lbs by May 26th to help both her and I to have better health. So I asked the dr what I can do and he said to walk, and very low impact aerobics to not put pressure on my knees/back, aqua exercises(I can not afford).

I decided with my health issues, (OA, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and stress) I am going to have a notebook with me and take notes throughout the day every day to keep track of my intake(food), and output (exercise) along with blood test, bp, and stress levels.

Need a drastic changes in my life.

hugs
Shirley

4-6 venison steaks
one can of cream of mushroom (I used cream of mushroom w/ roasted garlic)
2 table spoons butter
1 cup milk
one onion cliced up
salt and pepper to taste.

Place steaks in bottom of crock pot. Mix all ingredients together and pour over steaks. Cook on low for 4 to 6 hours. Mine was done in 4 hours. Even better the second day.

Makes a great gravy to serve over mashed potatoes.

Hi Guys! I found this team off a friend's Spark page in another Spark team and I'm glad I spotted it!

I love the easy convenience of the crock pot! I usually do at least 2-3 crock pot meals a week and lately every Sunday we've had to feed 7-8 people and my crock pots the only way I've been able to do that and stay sane!

So thanks for having me and I look forward to browsing the forum!

Just trying to make it day by day...

I have done a whole chicken in the crock pot using aluminum wrap. You make three balls and place your whole chicken on top. I made a rub to go over the chicken and it was great. Cooking time depends on your Crock pot. I used a 3 pound chicken and cooked on low it was ready in 7 hours. I may need to adjust the time now that I have moved to a higher elevation.

May this be the turning point in your life. Each day opens like a door letting us see the wonders of life. It is up to you to embrace all that is given. Do not regret the wasted moments of the past embrace the future and move forward.

I saw a recipe for banana bread that you put in a loaf pan and then sit the whole thing in the crock pot. The key was to put paper towels in side the lid to soak up the moister. Has anyone ever made this?

Slow but will get there!

Hi everyone. I am a newbie on this team as well as to SP. I think I will really enjoy this team, as I love crockpot meals. Living alone makes it hard at times to cook. I look forward to getting to know some of you, and to learn new recipes for my crockpot.

Foil balls work great.

If you hate the waste of the foil balls, you can use oven-grade small bowls, such as ramekins.

A quick tip I saw on Americas Test Kitchen show. Put balls of foil in bottom of crock pot then set your meat on top of that. I do my pork roast like that after I put the dry rub on it and it get a crust/bark on it while cooking much like when it is put in the oven or on the grill. The meat is not sitting in the fat drippings.

Slow but will get there!

Hi, Crock Pot Teammates!

I am new to this great sounding team & enjoy using the slow-cooker for cooking everything from breakfast dishes to dessert dishes - such as apple pie.

I am looking forward to getting to know the folks on this team & to learning more about slow-cooker/crock pot cooking.

God bless!

It is suppose to snow tonight so I think this weekend is goind to be a chicken and dumplings (The flat ones) weekend. I have never tried to cook them in the crock pot. I wonder how they would be. I use the flat dumplings from the frozen food section. I wonder if they would cook apart to much?

I'm on my way to a temp agency, just input my application, résumé, work history, references, and preferences online (ai yi yi; lots of work and time spent online with them). You are always supposed to take a résumé with you; mine won't print, darn it, I get a print spool message, so I'm going in without the paper copy. They accept walkins in the afternoon, so it's not like a scheduled interview that I'm supposed to have a résumé for. Wish me luck, I hope they have work immediate work available right now.

Posted about alkalinity on my blog. I need to get back to eating more greens on a REGULAR, non-diet basis, and drinking lemon water.

Not using the crock pot today. I am making homemade soup when I get home so I can eat it for lunch this week as well.

I get tired of making the same thing the the crock pot. I always make Roast w/ Potatoe and carrots, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Navy Bean and Ham Soup, Split Pea soup, pulled pork BBQ and BBQ Chicken. I need some new ideas that I can walk away from for 9 hours at a time and not have to maintain it or add stuff to it during the day. I like to start it, go to work and come home to a finished product.

Hi everyone! emoticon

Had a hard but good week. Still fighting The Spring Crud. Has almost calmed down to "just a cold". Which is a vast improvement. Have to eat more fruits & veggies. Today is the first day I haven't had brain fog in 6 weeks, and I also noticed, surprisingly, my vision is much improved. Still hacking up stuff which is sooooooooooooo disgusting, and socially unacceptable.

This morning cleaned the house and kitchen of my host family and did laundry, sorted theirs, folded a load of theirs in the dryer, did mine, and started theirs.

At 1pm had a special treat; community HOA block party. They closed off streets and had grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, all the fixings (cheese for hamburgers, chili for the dogs, lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc.), potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, pork & beans, fresh watermelon, canned pop and juice boxes, and pkged chips and cookies.

I didn't think I was invited so had planned to mop the floors while everyone was gone to it, but I was invited several times, so I went. It was really nice, though I don't eat processed food usually, I did indulge today. It tasted delicious.

Got home at 3pm, did "lay" ministry (zonked out) for a couple hours.

Of course there is lots of screaming and hollering here w/the 3 teens of my host family and their 2 friends, so, just faded in and out and partially rested.

Looking forward to church tomorrow, and serving at the church's bookstore.

I had a very busy week, started off with no sleep due to circumstances beyond my control Sat night / Sun morn, which had a domino effect: slept Sunday during the day after church, so didn't get anything done which made me behind on Monday, which made me behind on Tuesday. Had to punt instead of fix the chicken enchiladas I had planned for Tuesday night life group. Worked 11-3 Mon, 11-3:30 Tues, 12-7 Wed, and 12-6 Thurs, minimum wage at sandwich shop. Wed night & Thurs morning I was able to get some half-started cooking doen, plus reorged the fridge at home and cleaned out and washed 3 crisper drawers.

Last night no sleep again due to circumstances beyond my control, re, the host family I am staying with. My friend said I sounded worse on the phone this morning, than I did yesterday, and asked what happened. I said, no sleep . . .

This morning I did laundry; this afternoon I am going to a govt office (joy) for lots of red tape paperwork. Also have a deep bronchial cough hack and am trying to get over The Spring Crud. The SinuFix is helping; I just should have never went off the SinuFix to begin with and then I wouldn't have gotten this. Sigh. I hate taking pills; just have to take them no matter what. Otherwise I'll be sorry and pay for it.

Have a long list of personal, business, fitness, job hunting and volunteer duty errands and tasks to do today, tomorrow, and Sunday. I hope I am able to get some sleep tonight, for regular health purposes as well as to get over The Spring Crud. I might sleep in my car tonight, if necessary. Will place a blanket and pillow in the back seat ahead of time. Or maybe sleep in the garage. I'm looking forward to church Sunday.

I had a busy day; family drama with the host family I'm staying with, kept us all up last night til 5:30 am. They have 3 teens . . . I made it to 2nd service this morning.

But fell asleep during, so will have to listen online.

Did an errand on the way home from church to conserve gasoline. Then came home and slept til 7p; we all did. Then did laundry, dishes, and cooked a late supper that qualifies for breakfast, lunch, & dinner. Put leftovers in a travel container for tomorrow's lunch. Now trying to get SparkPoints before I put a hem in my work pants, getting ready for tomorrow's 11-4 shift. Such is life.

Have a great week every one!

I have a so sad story about my crock pot. Hubby used it yesterday and actually WASHED it, lol, but he also washed the base of it too. I tried to turn it on this morning and the lights went crazy. I thought that was a bit weird, so I started to pick it up to check it out and a bunch of water came out!!! NO WONDER. I was finally able to get the lights on and it felt like it was warming up. Good thing he will be home with it today... I wanted to strangle him, but all I could think of was, he WASHED it!!! OMG that was a miracle so I couldn't be that mad!!!

Yup! I got strawberries on that carpet this morning. It is starting to look paisley with all the different colors. Oxyclean is great for getting the stains out but what is it doing to the sub-flooring beneath?

We have now been in our new condo for 2 months and I am finding it very hard to cook. Since I have to cook sitting down (prepping the food too), the stove is at chin level for me and I am terrified of getting burned. Not that my face looks that great to start with, LOL So I found a 5 quart slow cooker at a flea market and it seems to work OK and then I bought an oval 6 quart one and I find I use that one more. Still, there are some things that have to go in the oven. There are actually desserts that can be made in the crock pot but DH has to have his pies and cookies EVERY DAY. So I end up baking a lot and that is really hard in a chair. My prep area is also carpeted in a light beige and that has to go. I think I want either laminate or vinyl in that area so I can easily clean it. The carpeting is old anyhow and is getting ruined. I am a good cook but a very sloppy one. Fortunately, I try to always clean up after myself.

Off to physical therapy today. For my condition, they have never tried PT, so this is an experiment for both of us and one that I am NOT enjoying. I'll give it a little more time and see what happens. Ever heard of Ankylosing Spondylitis?

Was your farm fresh turkey pasture raised organic? Just curious. I am wondering how much those cost (planning ahead for next year). They will be sure to be higher then (everything goes up) but just curious.

I couldn't find any good deals on frozen conventional turkeys this year. They'd really went up.

No crockin' today!

Wow, what a day. DH & I got up at 5:00am, got ready, and torched the ST Pete Turkey Trot. This was special as it was our first 5K last year. We only did 22 minutes better than last year!

In any case, came home, got the farm fresh turkey ready for the oven (brined overnight), made the salt free gravy, broccoli, sweet potatoes, Cranberry Orange Pomegranate Relish, and pumpkin pie from scratch, and had my son and granddaughter knocking on the door in perfect timing. Everything was delicious, healthy, and satisfying in so many ways.

Hope everyone enjoys the final hours of Thanksgiving safely. All the best wishes...

Pork chops in the crockpot are really yummy when made with a simple sauce of water, mustard powder, onions and a little sour cream at the end. Brown the chops first for maximum flavor.

I made a pork roast in the CP the other night. It was probably the best pork roast I've ever made! The only things I did to it was put whole cloves of garlic into slits I made in the meat then covered it with salt & pepper and let it go.

Enjoy Life! This is not a dress rehearsal!

I made a pot roast in the crock pot last night for a dinner party of eight. Everyone loved it, I filled up the crockpot with carrots and celery and some potatoes. It was adapted from my better homes and gardens cook book. YUM!

Anyone ever make Mr. Bud's Candy in the Crock Pot? I found the recipe on line yesterday & copied it to Word to print so do not have the site address. Excellent reviews but definitely NOT DIET food!! Would like to make some for the holidays as my large, extended family like sweets. (I do too & will have to be careful and not over indulgence) emoticon

Just had some yummy soup from my crockpot. I don't usually measure, just throw stuff in. Last night's soup consisted of ground elk (2 pounds) that had been sautéed then thrown in the crock pot with cut up carrots, two or three potatoes, cabbage (about 1/3 of the head, 1 can of beef stock, water, onions, garlic, celery, pepper and italian seasoning. Great for a cold evening.

Just a quick tip - I usually will cut up several onions, celery and garlic all at once. I have a mini chopper. I will usually do 1/4 to 1/2 of an onion, one celery stick and one elephant garlic clove in the chopper. I then transfer it to a snack baggy to freeze. I usually end up with about 8-12 baggies. It will last me for a while and I don't have to worry about chopping up every time.

Every day may not be good, but there is good in every day.~Author Unknown
