Hello Hello!
I'm about to sing up for my first marathon and saw this team and thought it appropriate to join in and log some miles with you all!
I've been on SP for several years now, not on every day but active 4-5 days a week on the site. I work out 4-5 days a week with running and bootcamp classes.
Look forward to meeting some goals with a new team!

Hello all,
I'm getting pretty good at this exercise thang and have set my sights on a goal of doing a sprint triathlon next year.

It is all about distance!

Thanks for the welcome. I haven't been on SP since my post. I've been busy with a new job at work. I even have my own office now. I started at the library 7 1/2 years ago as a part timer working 15-19 hours a week. I am now full time and now the circulation librarian. Not bad for someone with no college education. My office is in the basement with the children's books outside my door. I have reports to print every day, however, the printer is located upstairs. You won't hear me complain about that, though. I now make several trips up and down those stairs. I used to average about 1-2 miles of walking but now I have doubled that. It also helps that I try to get on my exercise bike first thing in the morning. Isn't it funny that I can find the time now that I'm working a full day, but seemed to have so many excuses when I didn't have to go to work until noon.

Hi! My name is Debbie. I've been a member of SP for several years now and was just recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I was a member of a virtual walking team, but it seems to have disappeared. Since 2/13/12 I've been walking/cycling (recumbent stationary bike) on my way to Woodbury, CT, from Havre, MT. I only have 146.1 miles left of the 1824.8 miles. My goal is to finish the distance, then pick somewhere else to go.

emoticon ! Good evening, everyone! I responded to Julia's latest Blog about the Rise & Shine Challenge--I missed it in the Daily Spark. Anyway, she pointed me in this direction and here I am emoticon ! I already exercise in the morning because I know I'll NEVER do it otherwise. But I have a really hard time being consistent with my cardio. I'll do ST all day every day but cardio I really have to MAKE myself do it.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here!

Hi Team!

JULIA invited me to this team, and I'm glad she did!

I am trying to lose the laassst 15 pounds or so. I've ramped up my exercise a lot and tried to tame my eating monsters.

I am a former college instructor but quit (too young to retire) last year. Now I'm a kept woman, LOL.

I have a Fitbit so it tracks all my mileage no matter what I'm doing. I've been averaging about 50 miles per week. I'd like to nudge that up a bit.

DH is 66, so we are planning to do our bucket-list hikes this year: we are doing 5 days on the Appalachian Trail in May, will hike 2 weeks in Colorado in August, and in September will hike the Inca Trail in Peru.

Now I am off to explore the rest of the team site!

Hello! I'm Natalie and I'm new to the team today. Thank you to JULIABLEANGER for inviting me.
I have a Master's in Biology and do hemodialysis research at the Palo Alto VA Hospital. I'm married and have two cats.
I have been tracking my running mileage but I also bike and walk and elliptical. I will aim to match the year and get 2013 miles or more. Looking forward to it!

Hi! New to the team today. I have been tracking distance for a while, but did not learn of this team until JULIABELANGER pointed it out to me.

I am currently a full time student finishing up a PhD in civil engineering at UMass, Amherst this spring. I am married with 4 kids (6, 4, 2, and 10 months). When I finish grad school, we will move to West Point, NY where I will teach in the civil engineering program.

I track running and swimming miles. In 2012, I made it to 888 running miles and 120 swimming miles. For 2013, I am shooting for over 1000 running miles and at least 10 swimming miles for the months that I have access to a lap pool. Through 26 Feb, I am at 180 running miles and 25 swimming miles, so I am currently on track.

Hello New to the team today..

Thought that it would give me an extra push to do more..

Currently I'm into walking.. my ultimate goal is to build it up to hiking again and perhaps even some running (depending on if my right knee will allow).

I am a full-time student emoticon , work full-time and have a family and am just learning how to get the distance in with all of my other life stuff. I am also a newer member of the The virtual walk/jog across America team. And I'm walking only about 12 miles per week at present.

I live in the green state of Oregon emoticon Jane

Hello and howdy, New to this site and looking to up my fitness needs and goals! I'm in the Chicagoland area and looking to complete 2 centuries this summer.

While I know 2012 miles is too lofty 201.2 isn't lofty enough for me. I did 30 miles last weekend alone! :)

New to the team but I actually had this goal as a NewYear'sResolution. Forgot all about it until my husband got me an elliptical for mother's day. I got it on thursday night. So far I've done 5miles. I would like to do half of the 2012 by my birthday on 8/29. so my first goal is to get 1006 mile out of the way and use the rest of the year to get the rest of the 1006 miles done.

Hello team! I found this team when I went looking for a cycling team to join, and you all seemed like the right fit, since I also enjoy walking. I started tracking my miles two weeks ago, and I have been aiming for 10 miles minimum a week, so I am going to shoot for the 201.2 goal first, then do it again!

I have sparked since 2008, but was away for the last 6 months, and just got back on track. I have lost many clothing sizes with spark, and walked most of my weight off. Now I am dancing and biking to be healthy!

I am looking forward to this challenge!

Jennifer:)

Hi Sparkers! My name is Daphne I live in AZ, I have a daughter and a husband and a dog. My program is C25K and I know I can commit to the 201.2 on foot, but I a new runner-2012 will need to include some cycling! I am super excited about this challenge and signed up before I realized how many miles a week I needed for 2012! Can that be KM? I also Zumba, used to do alot of yoga but have fallen out of practice and and trying to work in some ST. And way back in the day I used to mountain bike quite a lot, but with family needs and learning to run I just have not made time for it. Oh and I love hiking too! Goal for Jan 2013, hike the National Trail, at South Mountian Park 13 miles from one end to the other. Long Term Goal: Hike Grand Canyon Rim to Rim. Its been my a fitness dream of mine, want to make it reality!

Hello Team!
I am Julia, originally from Quebec city, now living in Ontario (Canada). I am an officer in the Army. I like running (I consider myself a runner - the funny thing is that 10 years ago when I started my career in the Army I could barely run 5km... now I completed a few 13.1M and I signed up for a few races this year.) Last year I tracked my miles (walking, running, elliptical and biking) and I completed 1200 miles. This year I was aiming for 1500 - before I found this team! So let's go for 2012 then!
To know more about me, please visit my sparkpage or take a peek at my blogs!

I have tired the running but it is just getting to hard on my joints. Not as young as I used to be :) My husband has been mountain biking for years and he recently got into the road biking. I figured the road biking would be something I could do. I know I definitely cannot do the mountain biking. A couple weeks ago, my DH bought me a road bike and I have started riding. I am up to 9.4 miles a ride and have been trying to decrease my time. I found this team and hope it will help me cycle off the pounds and tone up what is left from all that I have already lost. I started at 215 and am now down to 155. I look forward to meeting this goal with all of you.

Hi, I'm Renee. I am going for the 2012 miles. Right now some days I have a high amount of miles, other days not so much. I'm working on getting consistent. Come summer my mileage will probably drop some since we will be moving which means a lot of travel. I like to walk so that helps.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi Fearless,

I have been counting elliptical (so I would say arc training would be fine, too). I just put a column on my spreadsheet. There is a thread on this message board called "spreadsheet" or something like that. Near the bottom of the thread is the spreadsheet link and then if you go up a few posts, there is even a discussion about converting other exercises (such as aerobics or whatever) into miles. Up a couple of posts from there is a conversion sheet. Hope that helps! Feel free to let me know if you have other questions. I might know the answers. emoticon

Hi everyone...I'm Melanie (Mel) from Texas and I hope it isn't too late to start this...I love walking and have done well in my past with doing over 120 miles in one month. I am hoping this team and being on here will make me get my tookas in gear to get on my miles. I need a good challenge to keep up with. I know I will have to start slow because of my weight. I am not new to SP but I am to this team. I wish everyone the best of luck and look forward to getting to know everyone and helping on your weight loss journey!!

Hello,

I'm Lisa and I live in Berks County, PA. I'm joining this group on a dare to myself to get me moving more. I am aiming for the 201.2 miles right now but I'll take anymore that I can log. It will be mostly walking and once we get into warmer weather the mileage will increase.

Thanks for having me here!

Hi! I'm Amanda, and I'm undertaking the 2012 mile challenge. I'm a little behind the game, starting in February, but I'm willing to log the extra miles in order to catch up! I plan to achieve my goal through swimming, walking, and running. Primarily swimming, so I'll need to convert my yardage to mileage. I'm really excited and think this a great way to get me motivated to work hard to reach my weight loss and fitness goals as well! Thanks for starting this group!

Hello everyone!!! I'm Sam and I just found this group! My husband and I already have a goal to do a race every month this year so I thought it would be a cool goal to add a number of miles goal too. Since I'm a beginner I'll go for the 201.2 miles and if I start getting better than who knows what I'll be able to do emoticon

Hello! My name is Mary. I LOVE to hike, and am working on a life goal of completing the whole Ice Age Trail by doing at least one county a year. The trail is 1000+ miles long, contained entirely within the state of Wisconsin. I will also rack up miles at the gym (treadmill, recumbent, elliptical) and on the bike trail. I'm going for the 2012 goal - even though I started late and was down 149 miles, I did the math and figured the goal was ambititious but doable. Am tracking on my fitness tracker page. Happy trails!

Hello. My name is Rachel. My goal is to reach 201.2 miles. I would like to achieve more, but I don't think I'm ready for 2012 especially since I am joining the challenge a month late. I plan on getting most of my miles through walking/running, but I will be doing some biking as well.

Hi! I'm aiming for the 2012 miles! I went through my logs and added my mileage to the spreadsheet! I really enjoy working out but I need motivation sometimes to push me through and tracking like this will be a great motivator! I love the Gazelle, Elliptical, stationary bike and doing steps!

Hi. I´m Diana. I live in the highlands of Ecuador, where the weather is temperate all year long, goo for the outdoors, but it does have a moderate rainly season.
I´ll go for the 201 miles, but hope to hit at least 500 this year. (Right now I´m laid up with a bad hip.)
Most of the miles will be on a treadmill; some on an elliptical. I like the idea of tracking our distance TO a place. Will think about that later. Also will put in my miles for January later on.

I'm updating my goal.
I've only run 36 miles this year. I overestimated my goal since that's how much I'd have to do a week to reach my goal....HAHAHAHA not gonna happen!
SOOOO, I'm gonna try to do 201.2 miles each quarter of the year! More doable and I'd rather OVER ACHIEVE! It makes me feel better!

Updated goals, BOOM!

Hi, my name is Ruth Scovill. I'm from Cedar City, a town in southwestern Utah--part of the red rock country. I appreciate the invitation to join. When I saw that your goal was 2012 miles in a year, I first thought no, but then I visited your site and saw that the beginner's goal is 201.2. My actual personal goal is in the middle. I had been working towards 10 miles a week, which would give me 520 miles a year, but because of the dark and cold, I bumped it down to 5 miles a week for the last couple of months. The inclement weather is getting better. I think I can set my goal to 450-500 miles this year. I think that would be fun.

I wonder if there are other beginning to intermediate members who would like to form a small team with the goal of jointly finishing 2012. (No, we wouldn't get a medal, but it would be a fun way to reach the team goal!)

Hi, my name is JoAnn. I have just recommitted to Spark. My exercise has always been on and off. This last year was really bad. Several bouts of severe asthma and a hospital with strep have stopped all activity. I am a SpEd teacher and Special Olympics Coach. Last week, I started walking with my students at recess. (3 miles total for the week) It's a slow process, but I am moving again!!

I don't think I am ready for 2012 miles, but I will do more than 201.2 miles this year.

Thanks for holding me accountable.

HI to everyone. I am so excited to have found this team. It is exactly what I have been looking for.
My name is Naomi (bluebirdsfly) and I own a gym recumbent bike. So I am equipped but I have been looking for incentive and motivation. Think I found me some.

Hi Everyone, I'm Ray. My goal this year is really to just lose some weight and make better choices about what I eat. Right now my plan is to do most of the mileage walking and on the elliptical, but as the year goes on maybe get back into running and biking (it has been a long time since I have done that consistently). I'm aiming for the 201.2 challenge, but want to see how much further I can get. I'm glad I came across this challenge, it's a great idea!

Hi Michelle - I'm Donna. It sounds like you have a great plan going for you. I have stepped up the intensity and duration of my exercise this past week so I am hoping for good results over the next month.

I see where some team members are starting a thread to track their miles. I am doing it on the "Track Goals" page and I assume that is OK, too. I'll keep an eye out and see what everyone else is doing. It would be nice if we had one thread for all of us to track on and we could edit the post weekly, monthly, etc.

Hi Everyone! I'm Michele and I used to bike a lot, but then I had surgery (which prevented me from biking for about 6 months), went back to school, moved 400 miles away, and gained a bunch of weight. So, here I am. I am excited to try for the 2012 miles in 2012! I will be biking, walking, and perhaps I will try some running later on.

Hey Everyone!

I'm Jenn and this year I'm training for my first marathon! So hopefully that should make ticking off some of these miles a little easier. I also swim, bike, walk and will have to figure out a way to track mileage running my butt off on the soccer field. Oooh and skiing, hoping to get some more skiing in this winter.

Yeah for new challenges!

Best of luck to all of you!

I'm Debbie. I plan on doing most of miles via walking/running. But I also will do some elliptical and swimming. How do we count aerobic time if it is not a distance type activity?

I might even have to get my bike out.

Hi I'm Paulette
I do a lot of walking and some running. I am currently training for a 10k in May.

I have done a virtual walk where I walked from Reno NV to Boston MA= 2900+ miles so I know I can do the 2012 miles!! It will be a push but I can do it!

Grebjack, if you would like to use the message boards for your tracking, I would say go ahead and make a new "topic" so we can keep intro's here. I'm so excited to have everyone aboard - I can't believe how much this has taken off!

Get those miles in! emoticon

Hi, all, I'm Rebecca and my normal days are between 2 miles and 5 miles (I don't use a car - just walk everywhere) so 2012 miles is a significant ramp up for me, which is exactly what I need. I'm shooting for about 200 miles swimming, about 600 miles running, about 1000 miles from walking, and a few hundred miles on my bike. I hope there are people here who will call me on it when I get behind. Updating my fitness goals now...

Okay to track by editing this post weekly instead of using the google spreadsheet?

Hello I'm Joe and I'm new to cycling and very much interested in doing 2012 miles in 2012 and hope to see ya'll at the end with our goals met. I've just purchased a stationay bike to keep my legs moving as the weather it gets colder. I already got in 53 miles this week and the weather is supposed to be beatiful this weekend so I will go riding outside.

Hi, Mary Lynn from Georgia.

This sounds like a fun way to track my running. I started a C25K program last April at a local park and started doing 5K's in June. I ran 6 last year and my goal this year is 10! I try to get in at least 9 miles a week, so I think I'll sign up for the 201.2.

Hi :-) I'm Mel from Kentucky.

2011 was my first ever half marathon, I ran the Flying Pig in May and then the Air Force HM in September. I have 2 *paid* for half marathons on the books for 2012 so far! I know I'm not up 2012 miles, I'm signing up for 201.2. But this challenge really goes well with my need to LOG my miles!! I'm interested to see how many miles I *really* do have by year end, especially considering my group fitness class minutes...

HI!
I found this challenge because I stalk Jenn.
Anyway, last year I did a 100 miles in 100 days challenge and more than doubled it, so I'm up for the task!
I'm gonna go for 2012 miles. Even if I don't hit it, I still win so let's try!

Last year, I logged over 500 miles. BUT, that's just what I kept track of. I didn't start keeping track until I started training for a half marathon last August...sooooo, since I plan on doing at least 4 half marathons this year and a few smaller races too, I feel like this is DOABLE!

Hello, my name is Heather and I'm addicted to running.

I will also log walks, bike rides and spin classes.

Super excited to be here!
Make it a great day!
Heather

Hey, everyone!! My name is Kristen and I will be taking on the 2012 mile challenge. One of my goals is to run the Rock & Roll 1/2 marathon in Vegas in December, so this team fits in perfectly!! I ran a few 5ks and other various 4-5 mile races last year and I'm ready to step it up to the next level. I will be getting my miles in by running outdoors and hiking when it's not so cold out and running treadmill when it is. I will also be taking more dance this year, although that won't count towards my miles.

Hey everyone....especially Karen and Jeni! Can't believe we are doing a challenge together again Jeni! You can totally get to you actual 500 mile goal! You can just commit to do the 201.2 twice or 3 times for good measure and a couple extra miles...hehe!

My name is Molly. I am recommitting to spark. I did my first half IronMan triathlon this year and am training for another for 2012. Hope to improve my time. Find a better balance between the 3 sports so that they are more equal.

This challenge will push me I hope and with support I hope to not just meet the mileage challenge but lose at least 20# along the way. I really let myself go last year. People often don't understand how you can train and gain weight but I find it actually very easy. So feel free to nag me about my weight progress along the way to.

Good luck to everyone on their personal goals!

Hi- My name is Haidyn, and I will get in my miles biking, either outside or putting my bike on the trainer in my living room when the storms and rain are really bad. My goal is to do 2012 miles twice. I begin my 6 months of training for a 200 mile bike ride next month, but my problem was that last year after the ride I didn't ride again for a few months. So my goal is to get in the first 2012 miles by 6/10/ and the second between 6/10-12/31 this will help keep me going with a riding goal all year which is what I really want!

I'm Kacie. I am going for the 2012 miles. Right now I am building up my endurance on the elliptical but I hope as my fitness level increases I'm hoping to be able to run most of my miles.

I'm Tonya, nice to meet everyone! I am going for 2012 miles in 2012 and am two miles in ... need to up my mileage ASAP or I'm really going to be behind.

I plan on cycling the majority of my miles and also running about 800-900 miles.
