I am Leanne, single mom of two boys (ages 19 and 14) living in Northern Minnesota. My heritage is Swedish, French and Italian and was pretty much raised on Italian food. I will search for some of my grandmother's healthier recipes to share.

I grew up on a farm and we always did this kind of stuff. We had a dairy farm. Those roots will never leave this girl !! I have always lived in the country and we grow all our own vegetables and fruits. We have a lot of citrus trees too. I bring everything in and it get's canned and what doesn't get canned I prepare for the freezer.
My mother used to be a great one for canning - she didn't do much in the way of preserves or jams, but she canned just about everything going, with her 'specialities' being pickled beets, chili sauce, and hot-dog relish.
I didn't can food in the sense of Ball or Mason jars, but I would fill our chest freezer every summer, with pretty much you-name-it - even the kids would get into the act and help me get all the air out of the veggie packs. But these days I don't, especially since we're downsizing and any of my large pans and 'occasional use' kitchenware is slowly but surely going out of the house.
I love to cook and I to collect Recipe books! I have all of my mama's and grandmama's cookbooks. One thing that I love to do to is canning. I have my grandmama's canning Recipe book from 1949 !! I just made 42 jars of all different kinds of jam ! I will be giving them as Christmas as I do every year.
I'm not necessarily consistent about participating on team message boards, but I'll give this a shot.
I was born in upstate NY, grew up in MD, lived in Gettysburg, PA, for many years, and moved to England in 2000 - must be the wanderer in me, lol...
I was given my first cookbook when I was 10 - it's nearly fifty years old now, and I still have it. That gives you some idea how long I've been cooking, sometimes for just myself, sometimes for a family of four, sometimes for big celebrations where as many as 100 people might attend.
I don't do as much cooking as I used to, but I still enjoy reading recipes, collecting them, and leafing through cookbooks, especially old ones. I'm hoping to put together a cookbook of my own, not for publication, but so that my children and cousins and others in our family will have the traditional recipes used by our mothers and grandmothers.
Hello, I am Leona now from Minnesota but raised in West Texas. Thank you for making me your friend. This looks like a fun site. This is the time of year I think a lot of us use old family recipes. Leona
