Hi. First post on this board. I've signed up for the MCM for this fall. It'll be my first marathon since 1998. I've done the MCM four times previously. It's a great race and they especially try to attract first time marathoners.
It's a very flat, scenic course but for the hill at the very end which you have to do so you can finish while running past the Iwo Jima Memorial. The only other downside are the congested crowds at the beginning which frequently means you won't cross the start line until more than five minutes after the race has started! The shoe sensors compensate for this somewhat but even after you cross the start line it may take another five minutes before the crowd thins out enough to allow you to run full speed.
Still, you get to run past all the sights of DC and the Marines are meticulous about providing all needed support to include Vaseline and Ben Gay stops as well as frequent water/sports drink stops.
My last MCM was in 1997, but I doubt much has changed. Feel free to ask questions!
GOALS FOR 2012
1. Run 1500 training miles
2. Score 270+ on Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)
3. Train and run in Fall marathon
4. Lose average of 8 lbs. per month until target weight is achieved
