Hello Spark friends :) I'm Linda, and I'm here to help me keep motivated by this support group and many tools that this site has to offer, and hopefully motivate others too! I've been fairly lucky with health issues, but know that could change, as I'm getting older. I need to lose about 150 lbs. or so, and it's going to be a long journey, but I'm hopeful that I WILL accomplish this with the Spark community :D My Day 1 starts today!

instead of joining teams just cuz, i deleted 1/2 of them and am going to try to use each team to my advantage. In doing so I saw this one and thought it was worthy of adding. I want to lose 30 pounds; more for my back health than my looks. I went down 10 pounds then got lazy when i broke my tail-bone last year and gained it all back and more. Time to get in the game! weigh-in today 191.8

First time posting here. I am trying to follow weight watchers on my own to save money so thought I'd join this group to hold myself accountable, like the weekly meeting weigh-ins always did in the past. Starting weight will be posted tomorrow in the daily weigh in, and then I plan to weigh in Saturday mornings. We can all succeed together!

Hi everyone!
My name is Brigit and I've only struggled with my weight for the past few years. The most I've ever weighed was 172 pounds which I always tried to talk myself into saying wasn't so bad since I'm a highly competitive athlete and it was mostly muscle anyway. I enter my senior year of high school next year and with that in mind I have to attend numerous camps over the summer to finalise arrangements for playing my sport in college, but I also struggle with mild anxiety and panic attacks, which have stopped me from attending camps in the past and that I'm afraid will stop me in the future. I lost a bit of weight at the end of 2015/ early 2016 using sparkpeople but I put off tracking for awhile due to school/work/practice and I want to start once again so that I can get to my best weight before I have to put myself under the scrutiny of college coaches this summer. I believe that if I take care of my body and focus on improving my health, other goals will fall into place. My goal is to reach the 140s for now, but ultimately I want to be around 125-130, or wherever I'm at my healthiest when I get there (I'm a 5'5" female).
So that's it, I really hope that all goes well and I wish all of you best of luck on your journeys!!

Hi my name is Joyce I am 73 and decided I needed to get my weight down so as I get older the many health issues that hit us as we age will hopefully be less if I lose some weight. I was at one time 216 got down to 190 and starting gaining when my mother came ill and lived with us, it was a very stressful time. When I started again to lose weight I was 213 now 208, but it has taken some time to get here. I only want to lose 1/2 to 1-1/2 lbs a week. Sparks and the teams I am on have been great supporters and always full of encouragement.

I am a chronic yo-yo dieter. I can't even recall how many times over the past 40 years that I've lost and gained the same 15 pounds, never reaching my goal of 25 pounds lost. I am hoping by becoming more accountable, I will finally reach my goal AND maintain it! I have a family history of all the bad health issues including heart problems, stroke, diabetes and cancer. I also suffer with arthritic knees and back whose effects are compounded by extra weight, inactivity and poor diet choices. Now that I'm older, the aesthetic benefits of weight loss are nice but are far outweighed by the health benefits of making better food choices and staying fit. I know that all the tools offered here at SparkPeople will help me to reach my goal but I know I must do my part and commit to the program and become more disciplined.

Hi! I've let problems with my knees make me so less mobile. I've finally had enough and started getting fit. I'm 65 so it's a little bit more of a struggle, but I'm committed. My first goal has been getting to the swimming pool for water walking, jogging and light aerobics three times a week. So far so good. I now need to start working on portion control. Good luck to all as we work to get more fit.

I've decided to stop drinking and start back eating clean and working out. I used to be passionate about weight lifting but after divorcing my husband, I turned to alcohol instead. Huge mistake!!! I'm now in the early stages of recovery and have renewed my gym membership. My starting weight is 176 so I have a ways to go to get to my goal weight of 140 but I'm determined to do it one step at a time. I'm so happy I've rediscovered Spark People. This is an amazing site with the most amazing people.

Good Morning! I've been a member since dec 2010; on & off. I weighed 249 when I first started and I've been as high as 269. I was maintaining 243 until I went to Hawaii last Dec. I gained 13 lbs. Managed to drop 3 without too much hassle. Starting at 253.2; been back a week. 252.8 now.

I plan on sticking this out for at least 1 year. I am also trying a new idea. I am taking a month to write down everything I eat. This will give me better insight on what I really do. So far I discovered I eat well over 2000 calories.

My new goals are: Log everything I eat for 1 month (then evaluate)
Feb. 1st. Start walking the dogs EVERYDAY for 5 to 10 min. to start. By EOM 15-20 mins.
Feb. 1st-7th plan Feb.'s menu.
Feb. 10th follow new food plan. Right now it looks like I could eat 1900-2000 calories and lose weight.
March decrease calories and increase fitness. Do this until I find to lowest calories and best food to keep tummy full. I want to lose at least 100 lbs.
Having problem finding the perfect balance. Some days I have 2000 calories down by noon. Yesterday I was doing great only 1600 calories and then 8-9pm hit and tummy flipped out; ended up with over 2700 calories. This morning I am starving.
Need to find that prefect balance and prefect foods. I hate it when u eat and 2 hours later (or sooner) ur starving!
I WILL DO THIS!

Hi, so about me, I have been trying to lose weight for about three years, but have not been paying attention to my calories. I have really just been paying attention to what not to eat and exercising. I have had some success but reached a plato last December.I started on the 5th of January just getting back to exercise and eating healthy I had added protein shakes to my diet and after a week I noticed that I gained like 6 lbs. One of my friend said she was going to do weight watchers, we discussed it and came to the conclusion it was like counting calories. I personally can't afford to purchase an weight watcher membership. So I started searching online and found this App and now the site. So here I am down 6 lbs and I hope that I am on the right track.

My name is Carla and this is my first time on this site. I have tried many times to lose weight but have been unsuccessful. The year 2016 will be totally different for me. First of all it all starts with a positive attitude. Previously I did not have that positive attitude. Losing wt and improving ourselves starts with our mind.

I need to lose about 30 lbs. My brother and wife lost a lot of weight by change of diet and increasing their physical activity. They have motivated me.

Good afternoon everyone & Happy New Year's!

My name is Ruby J. I'm 44 years old and soon to turn 45 in February. For most of my life, I have always been heavy. I lost 40 lbs. in 2008 and gained it all back. I acutally spent money to lose weight through the Center for Medical Weightloss. Once I lost the weight, I went back to old habits. I also do not have money to pay people to help me lose the weight. I haven't thought about taking the weight off again until now.

I realize that weight-loss can't stay off unless I change some habits. For one, I need to make exercise a part of my life.

I work full-time, which is somewhat a desk job. I'm mobile but not enough to burn calories to lose. So, I'm challenging myself to walk daily (10,000 - 15,000 steps) if I can't make it to the gym. In addition, use weights to strengthen my muscles.

I look forward to weighing in weekly. My first weigh-in was Sunday, which I lost 1.8 lbs. emoticon

Hi, I'm Jenn, from Michigan. I'm 41 and after the holiday indulgences I now weigh the most I ever have - 192. I had lost about 25 pounds four years ago and then weighed 162. I plateaued, stopped paying my membership for the program I was on, and tried to maintain on my own. After 2 1/2 years I had gained the weight back. I had stayed at that weight for a couple of years. Never going over 187 until now. (sigh) I do miss the weekly weigh-in accountability I had with the prior program I was using, so I am looking forward to having this group and posting my progress. I have always been weighing once a week, but didn't have anyone to report it to, so I am happy to have found you all.

Hello! My name is Cynthia. I am at 218lbs...the heaviest that I have ever been. My whole life has been a series of ups and downs when it comes to weight (can you say yo-yo?). I need to loose the weight because it is causing me too many problems medically (back pain and acid reflux). I have been doing a lot of research regarding weight loss and maybe I shouldn't have..hahah. There is so much information out there and all with different ideas. I think I will just do the watch what you eat and exercise method until I have this all figured out. Any ideas?

Hello everyone! My last weigh in on Sparkspeople was on February 1, 2014 BEFORE yesterday of January 1st. I now weigh what I didn't ever want to weigh which is in the 200's. 205.8 Ibs to be exact. On December 28, 2015 me and my family started a weight loss contest and I weighed 210 Ibs. So that was a wake up call for me to get serious about my weight loss again because I don't want to stay in the 200's for very long. 2016 is DEFINITELY going to be my best year yet of my weight loss journey. It helps that my family has a weight loss contest which is MAJOR MOTIVATION! What I have plan for 2016 to get there is this:

-Stay in the 1200 calorie range
-Drink at least 64 oz of h20 every day
-Walk to work and back. It's 3.2 miles one way. So both ways would be 6.4 miles way over the 10,000 steps which is great! I haven't done 10,000 steps in awhile. My average is a little bit over 6,000 steps a day.
-Join the transformations class at Club Sport the second time around. The first go around this year starts on 1/11 and it cost $1,299 to join. So I'm going to save money for the second round.

My name is Shari. Although I begin my weight loss journey, I have struggled to reach my goal. At one point I did obtain weight loss, but was exercising a significant amount and not eating a balanced diet. Shortly after that I became depressed and gained everything and extra back. Hi! I'm Sheri. I WAS doing great. I went from 210 down to a smoking hot 154. The I tore up the ligaments and snapped the main tendon in my ankle. It took a year for the doc to figure it out. Meanwhile all my good habits. . .After surgery. . .so no at 227 I've got to make some changes. I feel like crap. My body has aged. I want the life back I had a few years ago. I wasn't sure I could do it then, And I did! I need another miracle. I need to get motivated.

Hi,
My name is Donna and I am 62 and from Pennsylvania.
My starting weight was 120 and now am finally in Maintenance. 100 to 105.
I am 5 feet tall so I had to drop the 20 because it was all belly fat.
I have been vegetarian for years and my DH joined me 5 years ago after his stroke.
I want to go Vegan and try hard not to eat cheese (My down fall) but I do . emoticon
Now is firm up time and keep active.

I am pretty new to SparkPeople. I had knee replacement on Nov 9th so it is not possible to excessive for now. It is discouraging because I gained weight since the surgery to add to the weight Already need to lose. Hey! I'm Monica, 32 from Ohio. I'm on a long journey to lose 144 lbs. SO far I've lost 46 since May 2015. I'm married, and have 2 children. Those 2 kids push me harder than I've ever been pushed. Keep up the exercise and it will get easier. I found I was seizing up and I too have a problem with balance. Since I have been exercising more it is getting much easier.

My name is "Bobbi" and I soon to be 60 years young and I am 5'3 tall and I have been married for 21 yrs. so far just joined this team a few minutes ago and I wanna,
say I need more encouragement in my life....the more the better to get me where I need,
to be or get and the reason I need to do this is because I am a type 2 diabetic and I want,
to get off of my pills for the better in my life journey and to do that is to get off of my butt,
and exercise and I do plenty of that already as my bed exercises and I drink my water,
everyday and try and walk down the corner on my walker with my hubby who I need,
beside me because afraid of losing my balance and falling ugh.

emoticon Hi all you wonderful losers! I just joined this group this morning as I know I am going to need all the help I can get to keep going.
I have belonged to sparkpeople for years now with no progress. I joined weight watchers on August 30 and for some reason it is working. I think it is the accountability of weighing in each week with witnesses.
I am down 11 pounds so far and I have 50 more to go. I will be going to the ww meetings until the end of November but then I will have to switch to on line for 5 months and that scares me.
So, here I am.

I started with SparkPeople in Dec. 2012. My highest weight has been 234. When I joined SP I was 228. I lost almost 50 pounds and then let a tragedy in my life get me off course. I caught myself at 214 in June of this year. I am back tracking and paying attention to what I eat and I am at 191 now - down 37 pounds from my start weight. My goal is 135-140. I am a 62 year old high school art teacher from Georgia.

Hi! I have been using SP consistently since June and lost around 13 kg since. As many people, I have tried, lost and regained before, but I think this time around I am more educated in nutrition and health in general, and I understand better what it means to make a lifestyle change for good. Weekly weigh-ins have helped me a lot so far and I think it's going to be even better to have a supportive team around, in order to stay accountable. I have not been very active in the social networking areas of SP but so many people says it helps, so I've decided to give it a try. Do feel free to add me as a friend and send me a message. I currently live in the UK and it looks like most users are in the US, but I can always have a virtual chat.

Happy Sunday everyone! It's a beautiful day here in Saskatchewan. I have been a member of SP for a while now but not a member of this team. I fell off the wagon this summer so am getting back on track. I lost 3lbs this week! Woohoo! So doing something right. I'm 51, weigh 234.4lbs. It's just gotta go! Hi my name is Linda, I've lost 2 lbs. this month. We have 3 more days left. I doubt I lose any more. I'm not being negative, but I don't think I will lose anymore in 3 days. Hello! I just re-started Sparkpeople last week. I recently got married and we have a very active lifestyle...being so overweight has never been so uncomfortable. I am determined to lose this extra weight. I'm focusing on getting better eating habits in place first and plan to add more exercise in as I go. My whole family will benefit from this - I love to cook and am using Sparkpeople recipes in place of the traditional (high calorie) ones I have been using. My over-all plan is to go slow and steady so I can make these changes permanent. Thanks for all the inspiration!

Hi I have to lose 100 pounds.I am scared that I will give up.I have been on a great deal of stress.My dad passed away August 5th 2015.I am sad and cry a lot.My father passed away at 85 of a major heart attack.I know he would want me not to give up.
I weigh in twice a week saterday and Monday.

Hey everyone! My name is Christa and I am re-joining Sparkpeople after being gone for... a while. :-) I lost 20 pounds on WW and I loved learning everything from there. I just can't justify the $50 a month anymore. So, I'm back and this time I'm using the forums for motivation, accountability, and making friends. I would like to lose 20 pounds by Christmas and be to goal weight by the first day of summer vacation 2016. My biggest hurdle is time and motivation. I can get pretty down on myself if I don't see immediate results. I would love to learn more about you so that we can motivate one another.

I never did intro myself. My name is Gaye and I did not know there are so many threads...I love the accountability of weighing in (I JUST reached my first goal in Mar of 2015 but my final goal was just set and I plan to STAY at it! I know SHAWFAN and JEANKNEE and hopefully more...I am so busy with spark it seems I pulled back but NOTHING is more important than maintenance to me....I know JEANKNEE knows that!

When I was in weight loss mode I posted weekly on Sunday. Once my transition to maintenance began I started weighing and posting daily. Do what works for you.

My name is Michelle I will be 33 in a few weeks and have gained about 8 lbs in the last two weeks to many birthday parties so now its time to get back and loose as much as I can Spring Break we are planning a trip to Padre Island, Texas. and I would like to be alot smaller than I am now got down to 212 in the middle of July now back up to about 220. Me and my neighbor have been going to the park and walking 2 miles for the last few days just need to keep myself motivated to continue. School starting for myself and the kids later this month I hope I am able to keep it up. Would like to get down to 165.
