I just want to start by saying whatever your goals are, you can achieve them! I'm 18 years old, and I was once 230lbs... I'm 160lbs now and I feel amazing! I still have 30 more pounds to lose, and that's why I'm here! Well..that isn't the only reason. I am also here to hopefully inspire and encourage you as I continue the rest of my journey!

Hi! My name is Laura, I am 45 years old and married. We have a daughter that is 22. I have struggled with my weight all of life. I was tipping the scales at 293 pounds at the beginning of this year. Depressed, miserable,disgusted, and making excuses. I kept telling myself that if I could only get enough money together I could get surgery or Jenny Craig. I went to see my family Dr. and on Valentine's day i started a program of 40 carbs a day, 20 mins of cardio, and a phentermine, and 8 glasses of water per day. It is working. i have lost 30 pounds in 2 months.I am not making excuses anymore. I feel better than I have in a long time, I know I have a long way to go but I feel hopeful and committed to a new way of life.

I'm Alice and I lost 45 pounds over the last 4 years and have maintained the loss. I am stuck at 160 and would like to get to 140 or 145. I am hoping to get some accountability here to finish what I started. I walk just about everyday for 3 to 5 miles. I usually do strength training for 45 minutes 3 times a week. I am also a Silver Sneaker certified instructor and teach as a substitute at my local gym. I also teach a senior exercise class at my church on Mon and Weds morning. I keep active and enjoy being active.

Hello everyone. My name is Dee and I want to lose about 50 lb.....how did this happen? I walk everyday but need to walk longer. Am keeping a journal and using Sparkpeople daily. Need support as I have been needing to lose this weight for years. Am 61, menopausal and want to age in a somewhat healthy manner. Have an office job.....can be more active there but cannot walk out of range of the phone. Need support but will supply it as well. We can all succeed here I am sure!!!!

Hello, I am Paula a 49 year old married mother of two. Jake 20 and Sarah 19.

I have osteo arthritis of the hips which makes exercising very difficult. So am unable to do much of that other than normal stuff like housework, gardening when I am able.

I have interests candles, reading, feng shui, computers, positive thinking, spirituality, new age thinking, Leptin Diet, soccer and gardening to name a few.

I try to eat healthy and organically where possible and avoid all preservatives and additives where and when I can.

I Drink reverse osmosis water from my water filter. We only use Australian made and owned cleaning products that are non toxic and without any harsh chemicals at home.

One thing I do know it's not a diet but a healthy lifestyle!

I will start weighing in every Monday from now on starting next Monday the 13th April.

According to my BMI I am within healthy weight range but my goal is to get down to 52 Kilos. I figure this will be a healthier and lighter load on my hips than what is there at Present.

We can all each and everyone of us do this especially with the help and encouragement we can give each other! Here's to our weight loss. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi, I am starting over for the 100th time, but like any other addiction it takes many times to get it right. It is hard finding time for myself. I really need to. I am heavier than I have been other than one other time in my life. I need support and someone to help keep me accountable.

i've just started back myself and i want to loss 86 pounds. I don't want to be skinny either, just healthier. i have high blood pressure and i want to get off my medicine.

For meals, what i started doing 2 weeks ago and i love it is I make my meals for a few days ahead of time. This is challenging since i work long hours and with my husband and 3 children I'm always tired at the end of the day. My weight loss success has always been with great meal planning. I just spent this evening making meals for the next 2-3 days. One of my daughters helped so that was fun.

the night before I arrange my meals it there containers so i can just drop them in my lunch bag in the morning. I pack everything including snacks. This helps me make wise decisions. When i don't have all my meals and snacks i tend to wonder to the cafeteria and make poor food choices (like nachos instead of a grilled chicken salad).

I"m a single woman,42, 5'6, pediatric nurse and I work the 2nd shift. I have lost weight in the past, but always seems to put it back on. I'm trying to get motivated, so that could finally just go on my weight and getting healthy journey. I'm not looking to be skinny, but healthy, looking to lose about 80lbs. I have always been overweight. Working 2nd shift, I find it hard to eat healthy while at work, and sometimes I don't even get to eat. Any suggestions, would be appreciated, here I go........

I'm Julie. I'm a professional photographer who hates to be in front of the camera because I no longer recognize that woman. I want to feel comfortable in my own body again and be able to dress in clothes that reflect my personality instead of being limited to the styles in the "Big Woman" section. I am hoping to lose somewhere between 60 - 100 pounds. I know that is a big range, but I have failed so many times that even just losing half of what I need to lose will feel like a success.

I'm not sure I actually understand how to use these Forums. I thought I was replying to someone's post but it turned out to be a new post. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Team!!

I am Lynn From Stockton California.
Been apart of sparks since 2008 but never really took is seriously till 2014.
I have been battling weight since a hysterectomy 7 years ago. I have been steadily gaining since.
I now realize that even though I may never lose the weight.. I want to be fit. and so I am back to working out hardcore.
I work out at home 5 days a week.. at least one day at the gym.

I got married on Halloween 2014 to my very best friend.. My Husband Barry is amazing. He is a very big supporter and helps me every step of the way. He works out to so he is a huge help!
I have three amazing kids.. 21,18 and 14. They are my heart and soul. I want to be able to be healthy and fit.. to be around for many many more years to come...

Hi everyone, my name is Jessie and I'm from Ohio. I have been married for 14 1/2 years and have 4 boys ranging in age from 13 to 1 1/2. In my house we have 2 cats, 1 dog, and a 40 something year old (yes the turtle is a older than me) turtle. I took my kids out of public school this year to a virtual academy (big mistake too long of hours) and last month took them out of that to traditional homeschool (best decision ever).

three years ago I was at my heaviest at 309. Then two years ago was at my lowest since I had my first boy at 259. After having my last child and making bad choices I am high again at 297. For the past two years I have also been put on high blood pressure pills. I have been on spark people before and lost 35 pounds. Whenever I stop is when I notice I quit being accountable and all the weight comes back on.

My goals:

This year I want to stick with it and stay with spark people to achieve all of my goals. This would include getting to being just over weight and not obese this year. I really want to get off one of my blood pressure medications by my birthday next February. Getting active and getting my children more active. Just took my oldest son's weight and found out that he just went in to the obese stage so now he is on the spark teen so hopefully we can get healthy together.

Greetings everyone!

My name is Sean and I am from Michigan. My first weigh in in a long time was 342.8, and I almost died looking at that scale. 9 years ago I had unhealthily lost a lot of weight and was down to 185. I had told myself that I would never get above 200 pounds again. Now I have 143 pounds to reach that goal, so I can set my goal for a weight that would make me happy. At 31 years old, I know I can either fix this now, or experience a world of hurt for my personal health. I am grateful that I am suffering minimally because of my weight, but carrying that much extra baggage is eventually going to hurt me.

Not to mention vanity. At 5'6 I need to shop in the big and tall section, to make sure my shirts fully get around my stomach, and that my pant legs are loose enough around my thighs. My staple clothes are black pants and a black polo, I haven't even tried to find jeans that would fit me at this point. When I spend money on clothes, I want to justify it, so I can say I look good.

I have a goal for 250 lbs, at first.

The real goal is 200.

My weigh in today was at 336. But the first week of dieting usually is some intense weight loss just because of the jolt to my system. I am trying not to eliminate all "bad" foods from my diet, but really focus on healthier eating overall, but remember that moderation is the key to the splurges. I am also trying to get soda out of my life, because I can't seem to drink soda in moderation, or so it would seem

I have used Sparkpeople in the past, and it usually helps me to keep held accountable. However, where I fail is when I slip, I slip hard, and often times can't convince myself after a "cheat day" or splurge, that there is any point in continuing on. I know that is a horrible mindset, and even though I know that is wrong, it is hard to convince myself otherwise.

Got a fb message yesterday from my "husband" because I won't give him money...he told me I was going to die all alone..well I would rather die alone than with a him in my life....HOWEVER, I am here to work on a new me and trust me I won't be dying alone , plan on making a lot of new friends...and start having a lot of fun starting out at # 243 but ending up with a new me!!!!!

Hi all! I'm trying to get back on to SparkPeople after an absence and failure managing myself. With the phone tracker I think it will be much easier to stay on board. Ironically another program brought me back to SparkPeople. My work actually has a Wellness department which has every few month challenges for us; most recently starting tracking exercise and food in February using another tracker which isn't as community driven as SparkPeople.

I've determined that having Challenges makes it somewhat easier to manage myself as well being able to track from my phone is awesome. So now I'm doing both the work tracker for work as well as Spark since I find it easier to use and more enjoyable.

Hey guys,

My name is Andrea. I'm a "new" mother to a 5 month old son. Life has been mostly just learning to adjust to having a new baby and juggling yet another demand. I was working midnights up until this coming Sunday when I requested to get put onto day shift. I partially think that working nights and not getting adequate sleep has been part of my problem with losing weight.

I currently weigh 262 and that's after losing the 20lbs I put on with being pregnant. I have medication that I am on to help with my appetite and it does seem to help. My motivation issue comes with working out. I get bored super fast, and even when working out most of the time I'm thinking about when and how soon it can be over with!

My husband is also trying to lose weight and it's been a battle for the both of us, as he is a major junk food junkie. I can go either way, if it's not in my house then I'm not as tempted to eat it, and even then don't really want to buy it. Anywho, hoping that this group can help hold me accountable by weighing in weekly as opposed to weighing monthly at the doctor's office.

Excited to get doing this again and give it a good try again!

Hi All, my name is Kristina.

Today, I weigh 216.

I joined SparkPeople in 2012, however, I only messed around with it for a week or so. I'm back now, and wish to engage more, as I'm able. I have SLE, so I can't always follow through with a team's goals, yet, I am here, and will give it my best. I need to lose weight -- I've been in the worst flare of my life -- I have gained weight with this flare, partly from being on strict bed rest since November, partly due to medication, and the rest is from comfort-eating. Right now, my largest focus is to keep tabs of what I'm eating, plan all my meals, get as much 'blender juice' as I can into my meals. For instance, as a snack right now, I'm sipping a warm mug of soup. I took a bunch of greens and blended them into a puree, and did the same with beets and apples, plus, I made bone broth -- then, I froze all of them in muffin tins. At least once or twice a day, I pop several of them, together, into a mug, and heat. It's really helping with my disease, and with my ability to eat healthier. In addition, this works great for days that I'm too sick to cook. That said, I am starting with 10 minutes of exercise, as I seem to be able to tolerate it again, and will add more as I can. When I increase the exercise I will still keep each session to 10 minutes -- for instance, if I can do 30 minutes a day, it will be three, separate, 10-minute chunks. In the past, during or after a bad flare, this is what has worked for me, to get the ball rolling again. Also, I have started doing the gentlest MELT Method routine (just my hands and feet right now, and even then, I do it seated).

Hi, I'm Lisa. I'm 52, a mother to two grown daughters, and a grandmother to a 3 year old boy and a little girl who's due on June 10th. I was married years ago, was divorced for 25 years, and then married my wonderful husband in May 2011 and promptly gained half of the weight that I had lost and then lost my motivation to lose weight. I have joined the BLC challenge, which weighs in on Thursdays, and want to weigh on here on Mondays so I'm not tempted to have too much junk on the weekend, when my husband is home.

Good morning! I am a 62 year old mother of 2 and grandmother of 5. Life is good and I am blessed. I need to lose around 20-30 pounds and am looking for motivation to do so. Hi, my name is Judy. I've been a SP member since 1/4/15, but just found this team the other day and so here I am. I am 74 and a mother of 3, a grandmother of 6 and a great grandmother of 2. I have had problems with my weight for many years and have been on many, many diets and lost a lot of weight, but, never seemed to keep them off. I am hoping that being on SP and with all the encouragement from everyone here that I will finally be able to keep my weight off for good. emoticon Also I have been smoke free since Dec. 4th 2014 after over 65 years of smoking and it was Hard! but I am doing it emoticon I have a goal to lose 50 lbs by July 19th,2015. I'm Vicki, and a lot of you know me from other teams. I'm 58 yeas old and I have a good bit of weight to lose. My hubby Bob and I have been working since Sept. 13-2014 to lose 60 lbs. each by Sept. 13-2015. So far he's down 30 lbs. and I'm down 28 lbs. Bob has been in the hospital 3 times in the last 5 years due to heart issues and getting the weight off for him is a have to, if he wants to be here another 5 years. For me, I have RA of the spine as well a mildly high blood pressure and I know losing the weight will help me in both areas. And I know it will help my energy level. All support is appreciated.

Hi I'm Ann and I am 38 yrs old. I weighed 326 when I started sparkpeople 2weeks ago and have lost 8lbs so far. I really need to drop the weight to avoid becoming the next diabetic in the family and other health problems so this is what I'm doing. Hey guys, I just joined. I'm Heather, 32, single mom from Hampton, VA. I'm 5'1. My highest weight was 236, which was in March of last year. I am currently at 203, but in the past year I got down to 185, and then, of course, gained back some. Most of my life has been a struggle with weight loss, even when looking back, I wasn't actually overweight. I could kick my 115 lb butt back then for ever complaining about my weight! I am right now training for my 4th half marathon. Of course, that in no way means that I am in good shape. But I really dream of being in good shape, fit, healthy, muscular. I have a long way to go, and consistency is a huge issue for me, and easy to lose motivation.

My name is Amber, I am 35 years old, and I have a 9 year old daughter named Meadow. I had lost a total of 61 lbs over a 3 year stretch and met my goal weight of 128 last February. But while going through a divorce I have not made the most healthy decisions for myself over the past year so I gained back 32 lbs. I am ready to get this weight off (again) and fit back into all my clothes that are in my closet.

I was a big fan of MyFitnessPal for several years but then I found Spark People and decided maybe a change is what I really need to motivate me again and I LOVE it!

Hi all, as dieters I know we all love numbers, so here are my significant numbers:

Im 32, I have 2 kiddies.
Im 5ft 6".
Im a size 14-16 (uk sizes)
I used to weigh 208lbs.
At my lightest I was 136lbs.
Currently weigh 156lbs and hoping to be 138ish for Summer.

I weigh myself daily but my weekly weigh in is on Tuesdays. :)

I have been always wanting to have the best of the abilities to get back into shape. I have attempted a lot of times to do this but I ended up eating and eating. Eating junk foods, eating at fast foods. Now, I had that problem of high total cholesterol, high uric acid, high SGOT and high SGPT.

I am so much worried now and I want to take back track of my diet and start exercising all over again.

I am being worked up to have gastric bypass surgery in the near future but I am required to loose 15-20 lbs before the doctor will perform this surgery. I am 59 yrs old and have many health problems i desperately need to loose this weight for health reasons. I would like to weigh in on Sundays

Hi! I am a 34 mommy to 2 boys under 4. Although I do have a weight loss goal, it isn't as important to me as building muscle. When I first started trying to lose the baby weight, I focused on the scale, which is ok. The numbers didn't budge for me so I researched what I could add or change. I realized that I wasn't willing to eat less and do more cardio, so I started adding strength training (more muscle = higher metabolism). My new goal is to build muscle by lifting heavy weights. No more pink 5lb dumbbells for me, more like barbells and kettlebells. I stopped doing cardio, sort of. I still walk if it is functional like taking kids to school, etc. If I go to the gym, it is for the barbell. I have actually hit my first clothing size goal (which is only one size larger than my ultimate goal) without losing a single pound. Instead of focusing entirely on the scale, I started focusing on how I feel and look in my clothes. I changed my body composition to less fat and more muscle. I may not be as tiny as I used to be, but my arms have no jingle to them and I can now move more like a kid than ever before. My arthritis has improved, and my flexibility is almost like what it was when I took ballet, minus the splits lol.

Anyway, so all I am trying to say is, I use the scale but it isn't as important to me as it used to me :)

Hi all, In October 2013, I had my 59th birthday and decided that the next decade of my life needed to be much healthier, more active and at a lower weight. I have been on a weight loss journey for over a year now. During that time I have lost almost 30 pounds. The holidays were tough and I found myself reverting back to some bad habits. Hello , i am Lorejae and have been here before, but a lot of changes have come in the time I was gone.I have been on this yoyo roller coaster of weight loss and am very frustrated. I have tried different diets and as usual it is up and down.I remarried in '09, my first husband passed away in '05.I have 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children. I work out at a health spa called snap fitness, with my husband. I also walk, and love to ride my bike, and dance.I try to cook and eat healthy, My husband is diabetic and other health problems. Hi! I'm Laura, I've been a member of SparkPeople for many years, took a break during the past 2 years. I lost 12 kg the first time, went from 59kg to 47kg (I'm 5'4''). 2 years ago I sprained my ankle while running. That was actually the beginning of a list of health problems that kept me away from any sports for an entire year. I gained much of the weight back as a result (I was up to 55 kg). The rest of 4 (now I am back at my starting weight of 59 kg) I gained them through emotional eating, mostly frustration I think, because my health wasn't improving and I couldn't workout (I love working out, always have).
Anyway, now I am finally back, at a beginner's pace, 15-30 minutes a day of low impact activity. I wanna go back to my diet. My weight isn't super high, I know, and 47 kg was too low and I don't wanna go back there. My ideal is 54kg, but honestly,right now I am striving for eating healthy and doing my short easy workouts patiently. The weightloss is just a bonus I really hope to achieve,

I haven't been active on sparkpeople for a couple of years now. And lately have been extremely lazy about my fitness. I started my first year of teaching in August and am trying to get adjusted to my schedule. I want and need to get back on track. emoticon

Hi RTCTFIELD - Welcome Back - Keep focused on losing weight and also how you will eat once you get to your goal weight. Having a plan seems to work for a lot of people.

I have been active on SparkPeople for a few years off and on...mostly off. I got serious about losing weight on my wedding anniversary in June of 2013. By Christmas of 2013, I had lost 53 pounds the old fashioned way- moving more and eating less. I let down my guard, gave in to stress eating, and let the weight come back. I way five pounds more today than I did in June of 2013. I currently weigh 380 pounds. Someday I'd like to buy clothes off the rack at the store and weigh 200 pounds. I am again committed to losing the weight again. I'm hoping that involving myself in the SparkPeople community will help.

I have been a member of SparkPeople since 2007. However I have been active for 3 years. I love this site, but life gets in the way. So I decided to take a more active role this time. I have started a couple of challenges and want to be active in a couple of teams.

I joined SP a few months ago and am just realizing all the wonderful resources that are here. I need accountability to make this weight loss goal work. Weighing in once a week will be good for me.

Hello, I'm Zapjac. I think weighing in once a week is a good idea. It will help me relax on the other days. I joined SP on 12/10/2014 and have found it to be a datamine of information on weight loss and health. The more I learn the more focused I'm able to be. It takes focus on health for me to have smaller portions and stick to the exercise routine I've committed to. That routine is 50 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

Hi Stealth -- You mentioned you like to read. I read a wonderful, lyrical book recently called "The Enchanted" by Rene Denfield. Maybe you would like it. I took it out of the library.

emoticon Hi--I am Nancy from Maine--rejoined two days ago after going shopping and coming home with underclothes at least two sizes too small--second time in a month--what a Kodak moment that was--so here I am--if this doesn't keep me on target nothing will.
I am 70, raised three sons, two gorgeous Grand-daughters, live in a very rural area, so internet keeps me in touch--love to read, some tv,music, Granddaughters anything new and exciting--I need to do this once and for all--Nancy
