Hi! I am Carole and have been on Spark a long time. I started back when I was trying to lose my baby weight after having my son 12 years ago. Now that I've hit my 40's it has been more difficult to lose but, mainly because my habits have changed. Getting back to exercising and tracking food again. I've been lax on exercising and eating out has increased. Need to plan better.

Good morning, My name is Trish and I've restarted my journey back to health 3 weeks ago. I've been down this path many times before and had good progress only to quit and gain it all back. So, hopefully this time is the right time for me.
I'm a busy mom of 3. I have an adult son that lives at home, and an 11 yr old daughter and 12 yr old son. I work full time as a financial consultant.
Looking forward to getting to know some people!

Hello! I am PinkGranny....and I have been tracking since July with no progress. Tracking food is one thing but I am learning it is not just the food...but exercise too. At my age I especially need more exercise! So beginning today I am going to focus more on movement.....after that I am going to work on sleep. I hope you will keep me accountable.

Hello everyone!

I am here to lose 40 lbs. again...this time, sustainably!

I've been on SparkPeople on and off since 2000. I've created this new profile to give myself a clean slate - not dwelling on the past but moving forward to my healthy life.

I am making two daily commitments to myself: #1: Journal every day, and write down everything. #2: Drink 8 glasses of water.

Please join me on the SELF Ready/Set/Sweat 28-day challenge, starting October 1:

Hello, SparkFriends! I joined SparkPeople a couple of years ago, but I really started on July 24 of this year. Since then, as of this morning, I have lost 18.5 pounds. My goals are to eat healthfully, drink lots of water, exercise, and make new friends. :) I am thoroughly enjoying the whole experience of being a part of this community. emoticon

I've been on and off (mostly off) SP since 2009. Due to some health issues, I have gained about 20 lbs this year. I had about 30 to lose before that so now I'm way off from my goal. I can do this one meal at a time.

I've been looking for a weigh in team, I didn't know this existed either. Been a member since 2009. Lost 30 lbs with SP and swore I'd never put it back on. Desk job, herniated disc, then having a baby, My weight is out of control, never been this heavy in my life. I am disgusted and want to lose all of it. I have at least 60 lbs I want to lose. In my dream world I'd lost about 80 lbs, but I want to be realistic. My first goal is to get below 200.

My name is Jennifer, I am 43 and a stay at home mom. I have struggled with my weight since I was about ten. I have had times of being thin but for the most part, the past 20 years I have spent overweight. I started my journey in March by first cutting down then eliminating Pepsi, of which I would drink sometimes three cans a day. I now drink seltzer, which I still can't believe, as I always disliked it. I actually find it really refreshing now. I started at 256 and now weigh 227. I still have a long way to go but I think I finally understand it is a journey, not a sprint. I eat decently and have cut down a lot on sugar but I still eat what I ate before, just a little less of it. My favorite thing on this journey has been the walking. Some days, my shins hurt or I feel zero momentum. Other days, I feel like I could walk forever. It has balanced my anxiety and given me a sense of empowerment. I am at a plateau after minor surgery last month. I haven't lost weight since mid July. I would like to get down to maybe 150 or 60, so I still have much work to do.

Hi! I've been a member for a while but I just joined this team today. I am hoping that being accountable for my weight and sharing it with others will help me stay on track and lose the weight that I want to lose. I am 5'2". My largest weight since I've been on Sparkpeople is
149 lbs. I am happy to tell you that as of today my weight is 144 lbs. My goal is to be under 140 lbs. The "books" say that I should weigh about 125 lbs. I don't want to weigh that little. I think I would look sickly. I have never in my life been able to lose any weight. Except for after my 3 pregnancies, I never really had a need to lose any weight. I am over 50 years old, I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I am finding it harder and harder to maintain my weight. My problem isn't exercising. I LOVE to exercise. My problem is that my whole life I have been able to eat what I want and not gain any weight. Now that I am getting older, I am starting to gain weight after eating the foods that I love. I don't want to give up the things that I did not have to give up when I was younger. I'm having trouble balancing my weight and the things that I love( that I do not want to give up). I need help!

Hi I've been a member since 2009 but did not know this team existed until today. I weigh myself every Sunday right now. Last Sunday I reached a good weight of 178.4 which I was very happy to get to.

My lowest recorded weight is from October 2015 around 169 so I would like to reach that goal and get to 150 eventually. My BMI would be out of overweight and I would be in the normal weight! Exciting! So I have about 30 pounds to lose.

I have major depression. I have 2 daughters ages 12 and 9 that drive me crazy at times but I love them lots. I am divorced and a non-custodial parent; he has custody.

Since the end of June 2017 I have switched to a more vegetarian diet. Although not yet vegan! I have seen a difference in my stomach since then. It is less and toner! I think I was measuring my waist wrong but if I did it correctly I lost 3 inches around the middle. I did it correctly tonight and unfortunately my waist to hip ratio is 1.0 because they are the same and it says I am apple shaped and high risk.

Anyways, I do have a physical scheduled at the end of September to get some much needed blood work done for my psychiatrist and I am sure they will want to run some tests as well with the switch to a different diet.

Thank you. Hi EVERYONE!!!!

I've been around SparkPeople for quite a while and need to be more accountable. Starting weight 262 Jan 1, 2015, today 198.4, my new Short Goal is 185, my final weight Goal is 145. I'll take it 1 pound at a time for me. It might be wrong, but I don't put a time limit on my weight loss, just a short goal. When I reach that weight I give myself a new short goal. One day my short goal and my maintenance goal will be the same. Wishing everyone much success on their journey to Better Health.

Hi, I have just joined this team. I am starting this journey (again) as of June 15th. I started at 171 lbs and as of today I am 163.2 My 1st goal is 155 but my overall goal is 145 or better. I have incorporated some running on the treadmill as well as a vegetarian diet because I just couldn't seem to drop any pounds with a regular diet and nightly 2 mile walks. I wish everybody much luck and success on your journey to a healthier you!

My name is Marilyn and I want to lose 30 lbs by Christmas. I am 63 years old and a widow. I am also retired. I am only responsible for myself. I need to get serious about my health. I have a weak heart, Diabetes and Sleep Apnea. I will try to remember to post weight every Monday. I take my weight everyday because I have a tendency to retain water. I take medicine to help get rid of the water but I weigh myself to make sure the medicine is working. I have to call the doctor if I gain more than 3 or 4 lbs in one day.
My starting weight is 189.8 lbs.

Hi, I just joined this team but have been a member of SparkPeople since February 14, 2014. I need accountability so I am joining this team. I can't stop myself from eating sweets and never fill full. That is where I am and I am hoping to get past all of this before summer and start losing again. I lost down to 152 but I have put on 10 pounds. I just can't get below 160. I go back and forth from 160 to 163.

Hello,
My motto is 'just keep swimming' as I just keep trotting along doing my best...Since January of this year I've lost about 5 pounds and to me I feel like saying "only 5 pounds", however, since I've gained like 50 this past year and a half then losing 5 is a big big deal and I'm happy to have lost those and kept them off. The scale does go up and down but it always goes back down. Now I'm ready to take it up a notch and really get used to eating less calories each day - like 1200-1400 and try to keep carbs and protein at 100g each. In my head I get all stressed and nervous when I'm hungry but the truth is that hunger won't kill me. I cannot starve - at the weight I'm at! - I am ready to be healthy and feel better about myself. I'd like to start incorporating a few days of swimming into my weekly fitness plan since I was a competitive swimmer back in the day and it is great exercise. My goal is to go once this up coming week. I've been walking and so I'm going to walk and also try kickboxing video as well.
p.s. I don't know how to fix my ticker...I actually started at 230 and am now at 225.2

Hi, you all sound like a motivated group so I hope you don't mind another person in your group. About me, I was at goal weight for 5 year and then stopped taking care of myself. So I have been around this weight for around three very long years. I rejoined WW as that is what works for me. I lost 1.4 this week and realized I really want to lose 47 pounds. So my weigh in is on Sunday's and my exercise will be the treadmill this week. Good luck to all and here is to a lighter week.

Hello! I'm Lisa and I am 53. I have lost 81 pounds since July 2015, of which I am VERY PROUD. I was feeling a little "bored" and needed something new and refreshing to jump-start my thinking. I joined SP two weeks ago and I really like this app. It's informing and motivating. One thing I have learned since joining is I am a carb-o-holic. I love the way it breaks down your food for you into categories. Very informative. Looking forward to continuing my journey, with about 90 more pounds to go, with SP. :-)

Hi everyone. I am Patti and I am 57 years old. I work for the Dept of Veterans Affairs and will be retiring in 3 years. I have been with Spark People for about 11 years. I was in the habit of going to the gym at work everyday but I just have not been feeling like going down. I went to the gym this past Tuesday and did some ellipticals. I guess I need to get motivated again.

Hi Everyone. I'm Sandy. I'm 72 years old & retired from corporate life. Not sure how I used to have time for it since I don't seem to have enough time to do everything I want to do now. I've been with SP since 3 July 2010 & am the leader of 3 Spark teams - Spark St. Louis, Missourians! & Genealogy. Got out of the habit of going to the Y & find it very difficult to get back to it; however, I do have a Wii Fit which I enjoy I just received 2 new Wii exercise DVDs to try out from a friend who got rid of her Wii. I also have a number of other exercise DVDs so I have no excuse not to be exercising. This too shall pass.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Christi. I'm 56 years old and retired, which means I sit a lot more than I used to! I've been on Spark since 2010 and have had a little success with weight loss. My biggest struggles are with food, specifically pizza and pasta (and diet coke - really makes me crave carbs). Meal planning and cooking are not my strong points. I'd like to change that. I'm okay with working out, drinking water and I sleep fairly well, but I need to get the food under control. I'm open to any ideas, suggestions, shared stories, easy recipes! I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of you and keeping accountable with my weight.

Christi

Be a blessing to others.

Hello! My name is Kim, l'm in my 50s and l have a little over 50lbs to lose. I am self-employed, creating and painting wedding shoes and sit most of the day. I donated a kidney a little over 3 years ago to my husband and have slowly put on weight. I need to take control of this because l cannot afford to have high BP or diabetes at this point. I have lost 17 lbs since Christmas, but need to lose another 55. I appreciate the add and look forward to weighing in each week alongside all of you.

Welcome Melanie! Sounds like you have a challenging but really rewarding job. I was a bus driver for over 15 years before health problems became too much for the safety of the kids. I drove for all the schools all day but had my special ed high school students in the front of my bus for a project in integration with select students. They were wonderful really. It's one part I really miss about that job because I got to work with their parents as well with the special needs they had. One young man was on my bus until the age of 20 when he mainstreamed out and the family was just amazing. His mom was dead set on him being with the other kids as much as possible. He did not let anyone just sit there and ignore him (smile) and just was so endearing. We had to do a lot of extra work and extra time in the afternoon hours for him with the other kids but they all got to just be a friend and advocate for him.

This site is great for becoming more healthy and this team especially helps with accountability. I've done more in the past 9 weeks then I have in 5 years here; and I paid for and tried everything. You'll do great!

Hi my name is Melanie. I'm the mother of a 19 year old daughter and a 30 year old stepson. I work in a high school special education classroom where the children have various disabilities. Spark people has taught me that changing your lifestyle helps keep the weight off instead of just dieting. I've been trying by myself for years with no progress to show for it. Started Sparkpeople in 2011 and left for several years as my life was a mess. Now I'm back and ready to do this.

Have much the same as everyone else I see here. I'm 45, have a wonderful, fun family and love my chihuahuas in pretty much the same level as the family (running joke in here about who I would save first in a crisis lol). So let's see, lost 150 lbs the year I married hubby, kept off for a few years but hit a lot of stress and health problems, medication changes and migraines increasing with menopause (sorry men). Got really scared being in the hospital last time. Went from being so healthy and fit to facing surgery for both knees and other stomach issues (ulcer last issue). Felt horrible and worse felt I wasn't giving my family; especially my really wonderful husband, everything I could. They all deserve much more.

Goal here is to change my attitude from feeling like I have to appear better to feeling like I have to simply live longer and healthier. I know now I need to diet for life. I know I will lose the weight, as it's getting easier every day to feel better and eat better. And I know that when I reach my goal, I will always need to keep support and positive encouragement as well as accountability in my life every day.

That's why I'm here.

Oh, started at 294 lbs on Jan 2. Now 271 lbs. I am feeling better for sure and doing more with my family. I'm really thankful for SP.

I recently gained 30 lbs in 20 days from a medication change. I have never come close to this weight before. I'm very uncomfortable and the weight has greatly exacerbated all of my health problems (I have many). It is difficult for me to work out due to my health problems, but I plan to start small with things like walking, biking and swimming along with a diet change. I technically started tonight, so earlier today I ate horribly. My county is hosting a Mayor's Fitness and Weight-Loss Challenge. I'm participating and I hope between the support hear and peer pressure of the community challenge I'll do well.. My body is unhealthy at this weight. Here's to the beginning of a long hard road. I can't wait until I can say it was completely worth every moment.

Yo, wassup?
I'm Matthew.
My short-term goal is to lose 13 pounds by February 28, 2017 (not dangerous at my weight).
Intermediate goal is to reach 240 by June 15, 2017.
Long-term goal is to reach 180 by May 28, 2018. Hopefully, I will reach 180 and bounce back up to 220 in muscle by that May date, but to reach 190 (as I get closer to my goal, I may find 180 is detrimental to my health) is my absolute, no holds barred goal.

Hello all! Not new to spark in general but new again I guess we could say! I am Linda and I just had my 3rd and final baby on the 17th, and have vowed to take it serious this time. I started changing my eating habits last Monday and plan to start the exercise portion of the journey on the 1st, giving my body some time to recoup before hitting the ground running so to speak. I am always looking for an accountability buddy, and my door is always open so to speak! I am hoping this will help to keep me accountable at least somewhat as I start the journey yet again with a goal of losing around 90 lbs to be at my heights goal weight, but honestly at this point I would be happy to hit 200!

Hi! I am 53, 5'6", live in the UK, am married, have no children or pets, enjoy walking as my main exercise, and also enjoy reading, cooking, gardening, listening to music, watching films, playing scrabble, and doing sudoku puzzles, amongst a lot of other things.

I am a born again Christian, and am currently trying to make my menu more varied and nutritious, as well as cutting out the sugar and additives. My diet is an average of 1500 calories over the course of a week, and I'm almost half way through a 100 pound weight loss. I want to start experimenting with exercise DVDs some time soon, and hope to be at goal weight (150 pounds) before Christmas 2017.

Greetings.

My name is Jason and I am looking forward to beginning this journey again. I have a long way to go, just starting out and being as heavy as I am. I am hoping I will find other people who understand my journey and hopefully other people will be able to help me reach my goals, while at the same time I hope I can help others! I am almost 33. I dream of being at my goal by the time I am 35. To be specific, that is 173 lbs to lose. Then I get to start a new goal... But thats what this journey is about isn't it. Right now 200 lbs seems like a dream, but I know with the right steps I can get there!

Being "scale-aphobic" isn't a bad thing. I think sometimes we get so worried about what the scale says, when often times are bodies are the best judge of how we are doing. Even if the scale doesn't move, our body is doing other things. If clothes are fitting better and you are feeling good, there is a strong possibility that the scale could damage that, for some people.

Hello! I am kind-of scale phobic, usually paying attention to weight by what I see in the mirror and the way my clothes fit.

I will use my scale now to make sure I lose those 10 pounds, instead of guessing.

I look forward to fellowship with you.

One thing... I weigh 160 today. Where do I post? There are a few places to post and I am not sure which one to post to.

Thank you!

This will be a very helpful team for me !! TY Jeanknee because I saw this team on your page and I know it'll be as said, very helpful !!

I had always weighted 115 to 120 until I was in my lower 40s. I had been in a bad car accident. I TRIED SO HARD to keep working, but my body could not do so. I had lost my Mom (breast cancer) in Sept 92, the car accident was in Oct 92, and some trauma in May 92 I was not at all able to process all 3 of these in such a short period of time. My Mom had always been a rockk for me, as most Moms are. I had to stop working when I was 38. I had been cutting back my hours over the years and was told about what disability is n how "courageous" I was. I DID NOT want to stop work, but knew it was time. I saw various Dr's was put on steriods and also depression meds,,, that's how the pounds packed on !! A LOT of these meds have a side affect WEIGHt GAIN !! So HERAH I am !!

I've been with sparks for 6 years,, have gone DOWN and UP and DOWN and UP and UP !! Now though I FINALLY think I have it I NEEDED to work through the emotions and I'm currently doing so. PHEW !!!

Hi.

I'm new to the team.

Starting over after a backslide.

My official weigh in morning will be on Fridays, I've decided. So I plan to post here, as I need the feeling of announcing progress publicly in some fashion. I need to get a grip on this ... and now.

Cheers,

I have lost 50 pounds since Feb.1, I want to lose 10 pounds more, but no hurry. I try to exercise daily with walking or riding the bike at the gym. I have 50% kidney function with my chronic kidney disease and my kidneys have stopped producing the hormone that makes red blood cells so I was given a hormone replacement shot and Iron pills with hemoglobin added for 10 weeks. I had a C.P.K.muscle blood test that was 570 and athletes show 500 because of damage from extreme exercise, the muscle in the blood does not replace every 2-3 days like it is suppose too. It builds up with hard exercise or diseases and gives a high count. It is suppose to be 22-200 maximum. 145 for women and 171 for me,200 means a little stronger muscle and a low number means not enough muscle. Higher then 200 means damage to muscle for everyone. The higher the number the more damage. Mine is wrong from kidney disease, internet says to go to Dr. immediately to get looked after, I will. Also have a blood clot in one lung and a lump in the other but, still exercise.

My weight has been up & down in October, weight listed is October 1, I will update October 28,then it will be accurate. I have chronic kidney disease and low blood pressure & blood clots in both lungs for 3 years..I am 54 years old. I am starting the Fall Challenge ,Firecrackers Team,on P.S.T. My exercise plan is 2400 minutes a month.I do walking, ride the bike at the gym 65 minutes, 3 times a week & go ice skating for 90 minutes 2 times a week for people over 50. My name is Linda.

I do not need a biopsy, no lump. My kidney function is 50% and I have anemia,I have 5% red blood cells and my kidneys are no longer producing red blood cells, I got a hormone replacement shot for this.otherwise o.k. My blood test for muscles showed 568,athletes are 500 and most people 200-250,so muscle is very good. I have leg pain because of blood clots in my arms, legs and lung. I am on blood thinners for this.

I have lost 48 pounds since Feb.1. I have 5 pounds to go. I have chronic kidney disease and will find out soon if it is worse. I might also have a lump on one of my kidneys and need a biopsy. I gained weight because of a blood clot 2 years ago that lasted 8 months when I could not do my usual diet and exercise program. I decided I would get back on track Feb.1 and am now the same size I was in high school. My B.M.I. is 23.8 I eat 1500 calories a day and exercise 10 hours a week.

I haven't yet weighed myself, but the last time I did (weeks ago, and I've been eating trunk loads of sugar and junk since then), I was at just over 82 kg.

Once I have everything ready to track meals (I bought groceries tonight, just need a lunchbox tomorrow so I can take food to work the next day), I'll weigh myself and start tracking my meals.

Hoping to get down to 55 kg.

Glad to be here!

Hi, I'm Sheryl... haven't been on Sparkpeople in months (November was the last weight I tracked)... giving it a try again. I live in Florida and travel quite a bit for my job. I am 40 years old, engaged, and the mother of a 13 year old and 22 year old. I need to get myself back on track. When I turned 40 last year I told myself this was going to be my year... I have a little over 2 months left before my birthday and want to make the last 2 months count when it comes to my eating and exercise habits.

I have chronic kidney disease stage 2 and have recently started the Davita kidney diet to improve my health. They have a daily menu planner with many recipes that are good for my kidney disease as well as a grocery list. I will use their diet plan.I am 3 months on Spark and have lost 44 pounds this year since Feb.1. I have 8 pounds left to lose. I have lost 10.5 inches off of my waist and gone from size 16 to a size 10. I had a blood clot in my lung last year that lasted for 8 months and I called 911 2 times and was admitted in the hospital the first time for a week and then 2 days later 911 for another 2 weeks. I got put on blood thinners for 8 months and went to I.V. treatments for 1.5 hours each time 3 mornings a week. I had extreme pain in my lung and pain down my left arm and was told by the ambulance both times that I was close to having a heart attack. I went to the Dr. a few times before this happened and he said there was nothing wrong. Anything happens again I will use my judgement and call 911 like I did. When my health improved this year I had gained 30 pounds from not being able to walk daily for even 2 blocks as I was in constant pain that got extremely worse if I even walked to the kitchen,so I could not eat properly either. I am now doing quite well and try to exercise daily.

Hi,
Suzanne here-second timer. I turned 62 in June and retired. I live in Northern New Jersey with my DH. Rejoined Spark this week as well as Spark Premium. I need to lose 115 pounds. This time around I will take full advantage of all the Spark People site has to offer. Monday I started a slow (30 minute mile) treadmill walking program - three days a week with a few upper body Strength Training exercises thrown in as well.

Take a deep breath and Smile.

I try to walk daily for 30-45 minutes. Last Tuesday night posted on Face book and asked Clint Eastwood to contact me again, last saw him 5 years ago.He called from California Thursday morning and text me a few times Friday night. He called from his cell phone,I tracked it to reverse trace the number on the internet,it is registered to him at his house in California. This week I will text his cell number and his studio to get in touch with him. I now have his cell number, home number, home address, studio address and number, studio fax number, lawyers address and number and business managers address and number. I walked today and yesterday but have not slept well regarding this. I put a pin number on my phone now that I have all those numbers in it. emoticon

Hi. I've been struggling with my weight for about 3 1/2 years. I have a lot of health conditions that could improve if I could just lose some weight. Right now, I'm starting out small and have a goal to reach 200 by October. I'm at 213.2 this morning.

Hello Spark friends :) I'm Linda, and I'm here to help me keep motivated by this support group and many tools that this site has to offer, and hopefully motivate others too! I've been fairly lucky with health issues, but know that could change, as I'm getting older. I need to lose about 150 lbs. or so, and it's going to be a long journey, but I'm hopeful that I WILL accomplish this with the Spark community :D My Day 1 starts today!

instead of joining teams just cuz, i deleted 1/2 of them and am going to try to use each team to my advantage. In doing so I saw this one and thought it was worthy of adding. I want to lose 30 pounds; more for my back health than my looks. I went down 10 pounds then got lazy when i broke my tail-bone last year and gained it all back and more. Time to get in the game! weigh-in today 191.8

First time posting here. I am trying to follow weight watchers on my own to save money so thought I'd join this group to hold myself accountable, like the weekly meeting weigh-ins always did in the past. Starting weight will be posted tomorrow in the daily weigh in, and then I plan to weigh in Saturday mornings. We can all succeed together!

Hi everyone!
My name is Brigit and I've only struggled with my weight for the past few years. The most I've ever weighed was 172 pounds which I always tried to talk myself into saying wasn't so bad since I'm a highly competitive athlete and it was mostly muscle anyway. I enter my senior year of high school next year and with that in mind I have to attend numerous camps over the summer to finalise arrangements for playing my sport in college, but I also struggle with mild anxiety and panic attacks, which have stopped me from attending camps in the past and that I'm afraid will stop me in the future. I lost a bit of weight at the end of 2015/ early 2016 using sparkpeople but I put off tracking for awhile due to school/work/practice and I want to start once again so that I can get to my best weight before I have to put myself under the scrutiny of college coaches this summer. I believe that if I take care of my body and focus on improving my health, other goals will fall into place. My goal is to reach the 140s for now, but ultimately I want to be around 125-130, or wherever I'm at my healthiest when I get there (I'm a 5'5" female).
So that's it, I really hope that all goes well and I wish all of you best of luck on your journeys!!

Hi my name is Joyce I am 73 and decided I needed to get my weight down so as I get older the many health issues that hit us as we age will hopefully be less if I lose some weight. I was at one time 216 got down to 190 and starting gaining when my mother came ill and lived with us, it was a very stressful time. When I started again to lose weight I was 213 now 208, but it has taken some time to get here. I only want to lose 1/2 to 1-1/2 lbs a week. Sparks and the teams I am on have been great supporters and always full of encouragement.

Joyce K. - Oregon coast - Pacific Time

Even if you lose 1/2 a pound a week you'll still lose 26 lbs by this time next year. JUST KEEP GOING.

I have been overweight about 2/3 of my life. I have dabbled with dieting in the past, but usually end up giving in to temptation. I am in my forties now and decided I need to make a serious change to my lifestyle.

I am a chronic yo-yo dieter. I can't even recall how many times over the past 40 years that I've lost and gained the same 15 pounds, never reaching my goal of 25 pounds lost. I am hoping by becoming more accountable, I will finally reach my goal AND maintain it! I have a family history of all the bad health issues including heart problems, stroke, diabetes and cancer. I also suffer with arthritic knees and back whose effects are compounded by extra weight, inactivity and poor diet choices. Now that I'm older, the aesthetic benefits of weight loss are nice but are far outweighed by the health benefits of making better food choices and staying fit. I know that all the tools offered here at SparkPeople will help me to reach my goal but I know I must do my part and commit to the program and become more disciplined.

Hi! I've let problems with my knees make me so less mobile. I've finally had enough and started getting fit. I'm 65 so it's a little bit more of a struggle, but I'm committed. My first goal has been getting to the swimming pool for water walking, jogging and light aerobics three times a week. So far so good. I now need to start working on portion control. Good luck to all as we work to get more fit.

I've decided to stop drinking and start back eating clean and working out. I used to be passionate about weight lifting but after divorcing my husband, I turned to alcohol instead. Huge mistake!!! I'm now in the early stages of recovery and have renewed my gym membership. My starting weight is 176 so I have a ways to go to get to my goal weight of 140 but I'm determined to do it one step at a time. I'm so happy I've rediscovered Spark People. This is an amazing site with the most amazing people.

Good Morning! I've been a member since dec 2010; on & off. I weighed 249 when I first started and I've been as high as 269. I was maintaining 243 until I went to Hawaii last Dec. I gained 13 lbs. Managed to drop 3 without too much hassle. Starting at 253.2; been back a week. 252.8 now.

I plan on sticking this out for at least 1 year. I am also trying a new idea. I am taking a month to write down everything I eat. This will give me better insight on what I really do. So far I discovered I eat well over 2000 calories.

My new goals are: Log everything I eat for 1 month (then evaluate)
Feb. 1st. Start walking the dogs EVERYDAY for 5 to 10 min. to start. By EOM 15-20 mins.
Feb. 1st-7th plan Feb.'s menu.
Feb. 10th follow new food plan. Right now it looks like I could eat 1900-2000 calories and lose weight.
March decrease calories and increase fitness. Do this until I find to lowest calories and best food to keep tummy full. I want to lose at least 100 lbs.
Having problem finding the perfect balance. Some days I have 2000 calories down by noon. Yesterday I was doing great only 1600 calories and then 8-9pm hit and tummy flipped out; ended up with over 2700 calories. This morning I am starving.
Need to find that prefect balance and prefect foods. I hate it when u eat and 2 hours later (or sooner) ur starving!
I WILL DO THIS!

Hi, so about me, I have been trying to lose weight for about three years, but have not been paying attention to my calories. I have really just been paying attention to what not to eat and exercising. I have had some success but reached a plato last December.I started on the 5th of January just getting back to exercise and eating healthy I had added protein shakes to my diet and after a week I noticed that I gained like 6 lbs. One of my friend said she was going to do weight watchers, we discussed it and came to the conclusion it was like counting calories. I personally can't afford to purchase an weight watcher membership. So I started searching online and found this App and now the site. So here I am down 6 lbs and I hope that I am on the right track.

Hello
u
My name is Carla and this is my first time on this site. I have tried many times to lose weight but have been unsuccessful. The year 2016 will be totally different for me. First of all it all starts with a positive attitude. Previously I did not have that positive attitude. Losing wt and improving ourselves starts with our mind.

I need to lose about 30 lbs. My brother and wife lost a lot of weight by change of diet and increasing their physical activity. They have motivated me.
I am reading books that tells how to eliminate sugar, junk food and processed foods.
I just joined Planet Fitness.

Good afternoon everyone & Happy New Year's!

My name is Ruby J. I'm 44 years old and soon to turn 45 in February. For most of my life, I have always been heavy. I lost 40 lbs. in 2008 and gained it all back. I acutally spent money to lose weight through the Center for Medical Weightloss. Once I lost the weight, I went back to old habits. I also do not have money to pay people to help me lose the weight. I haven't thought about taking the weight off again until now.

I realize that weight-loss can't stay off unless I change some habits. For one, I need to make exercise a part of my life.

I work full-time, which is somewhat a desk job. I'm mobile but not enough to burn calories to lose. So, I'm challenging myself to walk daily (10,000 - 15,000 steps) if I can't make it to the gym. In addition, use weights to strengthen my muscles.

I look forward to weighing in weekly. My first weigh-in was Sunday, which I lost 1.8 lbs. emoticon

Hi, I'm Jenn, from Michigan. I'm 41 and after the holiday indulgences I now weigh the most I ever have - 192. I had lost about 25 pounds four years ago and then weighed 162. I plateaued, stopped paying my membership for the program I was on, and tried to maintain on my own. After 2 1/2 years I had gained the weight back. I had stayed at that weight for a couple of years. Never going over 187 until now. (sigh) I do miss the weekly weigh-in accountability I had with the prior program I was using, so I am looking forward to having this group and posting my progress. I have always been weighing once a week, but didn't have anyone to report it to, so I am happy to have found you all.

Hello! My name is Cynthia. I am at 218lbs...the heaviest that I have ever been. My whole life has been a series of ups and downs when it comes to weight (can you say yo-yo?). I need to loose the weight because it is causing me too many problems medically (back pain and acid reflux). I have been doing a lot of research regarding weight loss and maybe I shouldn't have..hahah. There is so much information out there and all with different ideas. I think I will just do the watch what you eat and exercise method until I have this all figured out. Any ideas?
