I started off great in 2012 when I first joined SP but somehow managed to fall completely off track. I came back for a little while in 2013. Here I am back in 2014 since March. I feel more determined this time than before. I have completed two challenges since returning , which has been major motivators for me. So, here I am back to become a healthier me.

Eme - I know I'm a bit late in posting but wanted to say hi. Don't feel disgusted with the amount you need to lose, feel good about the fact that you are doing something about it. When I found SP I needed to lose 150+ pounds so I know what it's like to be there. You can do it!

Hi everyone, I've been a "lurker" here on SP for over a year now. I've had some really rough patches this past year which ended up with me losing and then regaining about 17 lbs. Currently I need to lose about 160 lbs, and its really difficult to not be disgusted with myself for seeing that number. Lately I have been slowly making changes to my diet again, and starting to take daily walks. I'll see how that works, then build from there. My bf has promised me a gym membership for my birthday at the end of the month and I cannot wait!! Anyways, I am an extremely shy person by nature but am in pretty desperate need of some friends so I thought I would put myself out there. Thanks for reading, and nice to meet you all!!

Hello!
I joined SP on Jan. 1st and I joined this group about a month ago. Actually, I forgot I joined and just realized I hadn't been over to introduce myself or join any challenges...so I thought I should get on that. emoticon

I have recently started training for a 5k (and I'm also virtually training with a SP buddy I met when I first joined). We both do whatever is required of us in the training and then we check in with each other to see how the intervals went. I have to say it does keep me motivated to know that I have to check in with someone...even if it's over the computer.

Well, I look forward to getting to know the team!

I'm not losing weight, I'm getting rid of it. I have no intention of finding it again.

Hello, I joined SP on Jan 4th, but I just found this group today. I would like to lose about 100 pounds or so. I have been overweight my whole life. I am currently 242 pounds, and when I joined SP I weighed 247. In 2008 I was much healthier and active. I ended up changing my environment (literally) moving from one state to another. I grew up in New England but have moved down south a couple times, and in 2008 I moved back to New England. Since then, I had surgery, a bout of the shingles, and enrolled in college to complete my bachelor degree. Over the past 4 years, I have gained 60 pounds. Well I have completed my degree and now I am also married and a step mom. My life has changed dramatically and I am trying to get my health back in check. I was in school for two years and worked full time and went to school full time. This is also when I put on 40 pounds. I am disgusted with myself for this, but I am taking responsibility and moving forward to change and become healthier again. So this is the start of my journey. In January, I exercised two times, and so far in Feb. I have exercised 11 times. I am 30 minutes away from 500 activity minutes for the month. I am getting back on track. My progress is slow, but I have made so many changes and choices for the better. I have made healthy lifestyle choices, and as I increase my activity I am hoping to get my portions under control and begin my decrease in weight. I want to be more fit for this summer to enjoy being outside and hiking and biking and gardening and walking and jogging. I want to take my (new) girls to the park and run around with them and play football and kick ball. I am preparing for success this summer. If you fail to plan then you plan to fail. So I am planning on success and health and fun!!!!

Hi Jodiest and welcome! It's not so bad...here's a little info to help you out...
To get yourself familiar with the sparkpeople site, go to your start page and on the top right corner you will see a tab "how to use this site" click on that and once you're done going through those steps, which will help you navigate the site, you can add teams (that hold similar interests), add friends and post on your team threads.

Hi Everyone,

Finally got to the chat room, a month from when I started with Sparkpeople. The whole website is amazing, there is just so much. Just keeping track of nutrition and fitness is time consuming but fun. I have been walking every morning since 2nd Jan - this is my main fitness method. I have been popping in once in a while to see what is happening, and love the idea of the Trans-Canada Highway emoticon and will join that thread. I've never been to Canada; so this will be great and good thing I don't have to walk to the starting point from where I live. emoticon

With the exception of some major back issues, until May 2001 I was a healthy 130 lbs; loved running; looked the best I had in years. Then..in May 2001, I fell and broke the upper portion of my left femur. In the three months I was on crutches, I gained an unbelievable 45 lbs!! Since then, I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to lose that weight. I swore I would be back to a healthy weight at the ten year mark. That came and went. Now I have my age, increased back pain and heart issues (unrelated to my weight) working against me. Since joining Sparks, I've lost 9 lbs since the 1st of the year. It really helps to have what you're really eating in your face!

Hi everyone. My name is Tessa. I have been on sparkpeople now for close to a month but have been scared to use the message boards for some reason til tonight. I am 21 and am in school to become an EMT and a biology major. I am fairly new to the state I currently live in so I spend most of my time studying and on the computer. I am now trying to spend more time working out so I can be a stronger EMT and also look really good at my sisters wedding.

Hello everyone! I am rather new here - I signed up at the beginning of the month but haven't really done much with it before now. Kind of overwhelmed with everything but hopefully I'll get in the swing of things soon.

Hello everyone! My my name is Amber and I am 31. I have been married to my awesome husband Luke for 11 years and we have 4 children. Gavin is almost 11 he is our oldest and only son. Then we have three girls. Gwen is 8, Gabby is 6 and Gracie is 3. They are enough to keep me busy but I also work as a bookkeeper. I would really like to lose about 30 pounds total but am making small goals for myself. My first goal is to lose 5 lbs by Valentines Day and then 10 by my birthday the end of March. I am hoping this helps me stay focused and motivated. I have been getting a lot of positive reinforcement from people on here and really appreciate it. So far I have lost 4 lbs so I am almost to my first goal. I hope you are all doing great with your goals and have gotten as much from this site as I have.

Hello! I'm Bernadette, I am 22 years old and I come from Scotland. I really want to get fit, lose a little weight and just lead a healthier lifestyle in general. I am a final year medical student and my final exams are in 3 weeks time, so to be honest my life is a little all over the place at the moment, and my main focus in studying. I am doing the best I can at the moment to be a bit healthier because I really notice that my concentration and energy levels are so much better when I eat and sleep well. I also have my graduation ball in May ( if I graduate of course) and I would love to be able to buy a UK size 10 dress by then. At the moment i'm a UK12 so I would like to tone up and lose a little weight by then.

Hi! My name is Heather. I am 28 and I have been married to David for 9 years next month. We have 4 awesome kids Zoe (8) Ryan (6) Katie (3) and Jake (1). I was a member of Spark People a few years ago but quit when I had a miscarriage in 2009. I had a blood clot in my lung in May of 2011 and in October I found out that it was not caused by my birth control, I have a blood clotting disorder. I am learning how to manage my dietary needs for losing weight with the consistant diet I need to regulate my blood. Did I mention I also work full time?? Well...no more excuses! I have been having chest pain for over a year and I would like that to go away so I have no other choice but to take care of myself now. I am proud to say that I have lost 14 lbs so far this month! There is the important part of my story and I wish everyone the best on their journey! :)

Hi! Single mother to beautiful lil 4 yr old girl. Living with my pain in the ass fiance & parents in our new house we bought in April '11. Doing great this month exercising but still need to work on the emotional eating. Starting another semester of night school Monday & stressed about that. But trying to stay positive :) Glad Im on sparkpeople cuz I have zero support in any way from anyone at home. Everyone tells me Im "beautiful on the inside, the outside doesnt matter." Bla!! Im technically obese (BMI 32) but because Im 5'9" it stretches out and I just look very curvy but slightly pregnant looking lol Need to fix if Im going to get married again in year & half and be a good role model to my lil mini me. Was in the Navy so I know I can be skinny again lol Good luck to everyone!! XOXO

Hi everyone!! I joined this team as there doesn't seem to be a team for Dec 29 2011 week, so here I am!! What a big group!! So excited to have found other who started their Spark journey when I did.
Now a bit about myself... I am 28 and live in Canada. I have never been fit and want to get in shape for the first time in my life. I am trying to focus on healthy sustainable habits that I can keep going for life. right now I am doing the January Jumpstart Challenge as well as Jillian's 30DS and hula hooping. Looking forward to seeing everyone's progress and successes.

Hello everyone - for some reason I was not added to the team automatically - but never mind! I'm here finally - and with a HUGE crowd!! Now who has taken this year by it's tail and is shaking it?? I hope to lose 3 stone by August as my son is getting married. I live in the Cotswolds in the UK. I have been on Spark before - back in 2007 - lost more than I need to lose now - and had a great time doing so! Currently have a nasty chest infection (probably like half the country!) and am on antibiotics - but having taken yesterday very quietly am feeling a tad better today - and have been the gym (hmm it's warm there!) Well I had better go and start to think about dinner!

Hi, my name is Joy.
I'm 59 years old and a cancer survivor, I also quit smoking as soon as I found out I had cancer, after my chemo I started gaining weight and shot up to 183. I've managed to loose back down to 155 but still have 25 lbs to go and this has been the hardest to loose so far.
I joined 2 weeks ago and thought I would be able to start right away with walking on my treadmill and tracking my food intake but so far I haven;t been able to so here's to another week of trying.
This program looks every bit as good as weight watchers and it's free so I really want to do my best to get going on this. emoticon

I have been here about 2 weeks, i guess i should introduce myself. I am a 19 year college student. I've struggled with my weight so far for all of my life. I'm done getting made fun of because i am not skinny, being asked if i'm pregant and going to have a baby. I'm ready to make a change. I'm really excited to see what is going to happen. I have now been here a week, so I guess I should say hello. I am 55, mother to 6 and have 5 of the very best and wonderful grandsons possible. I am excited about changing my life to be more healthy and to have more energy to play with those little boys.SP is a great place to get motivation and to keep track of things. emoticon

Hi, my name is Lisa and I am 47 years old, and I have 2 fulltime jobs, a special education teacher and a supervisor at Kohl's. My goal is to lose 55 pounds and to build a healthier lifestyle. I want to be in shape and have more energy because I am finding it difficult to keep with my schedule. I have tried Atkins in the past but depriving myself of certain foods was not the way to go. My son got married on December 3rd and after seeing pictures of myself in my dress I knew something had to be done, plus I am always in pain and I am tired of it. I have been on this plan for 2 weeks and have lost 10 pounds. I love seeing how many. Calories I have eaten as it helps me plan the rest of the day out, what I am struggling with is starting to exercise, and that is going to be my goal for this next week.

After too many years of high emotional stress, bad food choices and lots of weak excuses I am finally in a place to make a difference in my life.

I am 39 years old, mother to two awesome girls (ages 8 and 12) and wife to a great and supportive husband. I've been on Sparkpeople for almost 2 weeks and already I have seen progress just by watching my calories with the phone app. I'll be adding regular exercise this week.

I think that the support that the Sparkpeople community has to offer will greatly improve my level of success. Being accountalble to others definitely encourages me to stick to the plan
