Hey, no problem, Rie. I don't have too much with the recipe calculator either. I haven't figured out how to enter a recipe and figure out the calories w/o making it public. Sometimes I make something that I've been making for years...no recipe, I just make it. When I enter it so that I can had it to my tracker, I have to post it and give it a name, blah, blah, blah. I don't want to write directions, I just want the nutrition info. Oh well, maybe someday I will figure it out.

My weight loss journey has leveled off. We've had a busy couple of months with my daughter graduating from college and moving out of state. I haven't really lost any weight, but I haven't gained either. But my clothes are getting looser and some styles I'm even buying smaller sizes. I'll take that.

I haven't got that book yet. I think I'm going to re-write my goal rewards, and that will be my first reward. That's how I got my SP cookbook. I seem to do better if my reward is something I really want but wouldn't normally buy.

Have a successful week,
Karen

Karen--
I can't wait to hear how they like it! :)

I'm sorry you ended up having to hand write the directions. I must have entered the recipe incorrectly. I have only used the recipe calculator a few times, and I've never had to print a recipe from it, so I might be doing it wrong.

How is your weight loss going? I have had a terrible couple of weeks (nutrition-wise) and I'm trying to get back on track. I keep reading the SparkCoach entries and go away motivated, but I have a lot of stress in my life right now, so I can only seem to follow through with my nutrition goals for half a day at a time. I took some new steps to control the stress today, though, so I'm hoping I've finally turned it around. I'd love to hear someone else is doing well!

Take care--
Rie

Rie,
I copied your recipe tonight. I can't wait to try it on my family next week. I just wanted to let you know, though, I had to hand write the directions to prepare it. I don't know if it was because they were located in the tip section or not. I just thought I'd let you know.

Thanks again. I'll let you know what everyone thought of it.

Here's the new version: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/cookbooks.a
sp?cookbook=784742

Here's the verdict: The flavor is a little different without all the salt and sugar, but it's good! In fact, I brought it to a cookout, and it was very popular. One person even requested the recipe. It keeps well in the fridge, which is good, since the recipe yields so much! I have tired using various flavored olive oils and vinegars when I've been out of flaxseed oil and/or rice vinegar. One of my favorites was Persian lime olive oil. I'm sure squeezing a little fresh lime juice into it would be good, too. I hope you like it!

Rie, I can't wait to see how it comes out. I make that all the time. In fact, it is often requested that I make it. I would love a lower calorie version of it. Please let me know how it comes out.

Hi, everyone!
I'm still new to SP, so I learn more about it every day. I just found out about this Team from Coach Denise's response to a question I posted in another forum. I want to share part of my earlier post with you. It's the story of the roundabout way I found Sparkpeople.com:

"One Thanksgiving, I browsed the web looking for healthier versions of traditional recipes, and found several from "Chef Meg." That led me to the SP Cookbook. I bought one for myself, then I bought fifteen more for my family and friends!

Years later, it's still my go-to cookbook when I have no idea what to make for dinner, but I want something healthy. I tried following one of the suggested weekly menus, but it was too much all at once for me, so now I'm trying to perfect a few of my favorite recipes so I can make them as quickly and consistently as Chef Meg--then I'll go on to a few more.

Eventually, the Cookbook led me to the website, and happily, here I am today."

I love the recipe a friend gave me for Asian Slaw--that crunchy Ramen noodle salad. I have made it dozens of times, trying to perfect a healthier version, but I have not yet managed to give up the Ramen noodle spice packet. Tomorrow I am going to try Chef Meg's version of the spices on my version of the salad. I'll let you know how it turns out. Happy cooking!

Don't let the idea that you are predestine to be obese because others in your family are. You can break the cycle. Eat smarter, don't starve yourself because "that way there be tigers." You will fail if you try to starve yourself. Eat smart. there is no reason for you to be constantly hungry. Lots of fruits and vegetables and water.

And get moving. Do not go out and try to run a 5k this month. Don't be crazy. Get started with walking and some light strength training. But as you do it, build on what you have started. Walk, then walk some more, then even more. Ditto on the strength training start small and build up to more reps and heavier weights.

I start with a walk around the block. 10 minutes! I was exhausted. But the trick was to go out the next day and the day after that. Eventually I was walking three miles! Then I threw in little runs. At then end of the first 18 months I ran a 5k race. A year after that I ran my first and second (and last) marathons. Now I am a regular half marathoner. All from a 10 minute walk around the block.

And don't let the negative Nancies get you down. Mark Twain said "Stay away from those who would belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great will make you feel that you too can be great."

Start small and build on your successes. St Francis of Assisi said "Start by doing what is necessary. Then do what is possible and suddenly you will be doing the impossible."

I lost 90 pounds in 18 months by keeping St Francis's advice in my mind.

You can do it!

Welcome to SparkPeople! I know how hard it is to take on weight loss - do your best to take it one goal at a time. Pick something that is small and sustainable and than build on that. We have a great community here to support you.

Hi Tammy! Welcome to Spark People!
My name is Roxann and IMO this site is such an AWESOME tool in trying to achieve one's weight loss and healthy living goals!
I too, am morbidly obese. It sounds disgusting just to say that, huh? BUT, I TRULY believe that, despite our health issues and physical challenges, with a whole lot of patience, long suffering, and DETERMINATION we CAN and will achieve our dreams and reach our goals!
CHIN UP! Hang in there and think LOTS of positive, happy thoughts. It may not... probably will not emoticon ... be easy. BUT, emoticon !!!
When things feel extra tough (and they will) just emoticon !!!
Good things WILL come!
Best wishes on your journey! emoticon

hi my name is Tammy and I am new here. I have joined a few teams and challenges to get to know the other members and also lose weight. I am very obese. I weigh about 328. My weight discourages me and also I have medical related issues regarding my weight and all my Doctors can tell me is I got to lose weight. That is a downer. Obesity runs in my family so its going to be difficult to lose weight. I am looking for a buddy or someone that I can converse with on a regular basis of my progress as well as their progress for motivation.
