Hi, Samantha and welcome I was on and off Spark several times. Mostly because I wasn't really serious about changing my eating habits and working on a new lifestyle. When I came back this last May, I was determined to get to my goal this time so I have been tracking my food faithfully every single day. I also got smart this time and started studying my daily reports. I quickly found out that I was sabotaging my weight loss by eating way to many starchy carbs. I cut back on bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, etc. and now I'm doing much better. While I don't believe in eliminating any food group from my diet, I know I was the Queen of Portion Distortion - I ate way to much at every meal. At first it was hard to cut back because my body was used to these ginormous portions, but within about 2 months that totally changed and now I can't eat nearly as much as I used to. If you use your nutrition tracker it will keep you honest with yourself and accountable for the choices you make. Take a look at the report you pull on the Nutrition Tracker page - on the right hand side about two-thirds of the way down you'll see "See Today's Full Report". Click on that and you'll get a spread sheet with all your nutrients for the day and there are two pie charts on the bottom - one shows Spark's recommended % of protein, carbohydrates, and fat, and the other shows your actual % based on what you entered in your tracker that day. That is where I found out my % of carbs was way out of line Good luck to you and your boyfriend and let us know when the "engagement" happens

Hello everyone! My name is Samantha and I am 23 years old. I am a vegetarian and I am a paramedic. I work A LOT. I work something called a 24/48. I work for 24 hours straight and have 48 hours off. It makes for a lot of bored eating and days where I can't exercise. I grab a lot of carb food because it's fast. I have put on a lot of weight and I am unhappy. I have started p90x and trying to eat less carbs and better portion control to lose some weight. My boyfriend and I are both trying to lose weight and get in shape. A big motivation for our weight loss is that we plan to get engaged afterwards...it's a good goal to work towards! I Hope to get some messages I'd love to hear people's advice and stories! :)
