Thanks Imavegan. Sorry so late in responding. Just been really busy with tying up loose ends, new will, registering his will, ect., ect.. Will make a serious effort to eat healthier. Trying out almond milk, unsweetened as opposed to sweetened, and trying to do w/o the skim milk which is what we used all the time, not to mention chicken, ground turkey, fish, and some pork. So this will be a new adventure for me.

I am SO sorry about the loss of your dear husband. What a tragedy for you.

Once you give up sugar in your diet for a month except the low sugar fruits - (switch to berries of all kinds, bananas etc for a month) your taste buds will be forever changed and they high sugar fruits will seem SOOOOOO sweet you will eat less of them when you get a chance to eat them because they will seem tooo sweet to you. I promise. When I get the opportunity to eat a plate full of fruit now at a potluck or some such event. I choose strawberries over orange pieces because the oranges seem too sweet, same with the watermelon. I can no longer eat a piece of sweet cake with icing.... ooooooohhh tooo sweet for me... I used to eat icing right out of the can (with coconut dumped in first and stirred around.) Can you believe it? Yuck! That was before I gave up all diet drinks and soda and all drinks but water for a whole month. Artificial sweeteners fool you into thinking things are sweet and fool your body into thinking you need more sugar than you want. Now I drink water, herbal tea with just a touch of stevia or raw sugar, but just a tiny bit because the tea seems sweet on its own. (1/2 teaspoon a cup)

I concur watching FOK the movie is really an important step. If you don't know what to cook, I would suggest maybe buying Happy Herbivore's meal plans for one person. They cost $5 a week but you waste NO food, you learn new (very easy) recipes. And they are very good. Here is the link. Lyndsey Nixon has 3 cookbooks out and they are very popular. I love them for their simplicity and the food is good. Good luck to you. God Bless You!

emoticon I'm in a rush but wanted to welcome you to the team. I'll post a reply to your questions in the next couple of days. If you haven't watched the film "Forks Over Knives," do yourself a favor and watch it. It has been life changing for many, many folks. Here's a link to the film on Hulu www.hulu.com/#!watch/279734 I haven't watched it from that link; it's available on Netflix and Amazon also.

I just purchased the book, FOK yesterday. I had been eating fairly healthy, so I thought, for about 6 years when hubby was diagnosed with cancer at that time.

So even before his diagonsis, we basically went from white to brown, no red meats, healthy oils so we thought such as olive oil, and basically no sugar, at least for him. It was because his trigs and cholesterol were outta sight. He became really healthy but alas, passed away about 8 weeks ago.

We ate bascially the same thing as I made all my own healthy sauces, did veggies, salads, and fresh fruit. Also did lentils, couscous, brown rice, and such like these.

But we did eat salmon, chicken, ground turkey, and lean pork. Which I know is not what FOK advocates. But with hubby now passed, I am willing to give this a go as I really would like to be healthier.

But I will be honest, me, all my teeth are sweet teeth. Once I get the sugar out of my system, I am good. But I wonder about all the fruits that you are allowed to eat? I am concerned about spiking my sugar with the fruits although I do love frozen as well as fresh.

And can you lead me in the right direction now for what to do to get started? I've had a lot of hoops to jump through lately to get things tied up but really need to get started now. So any help is more than appreciated.

What is recommended for quick breakfasts and lunches?

Thanks for any & all help.
