What I love on Spark People is that the support is unlimited! You need motivation, read up on the success stories and/or post a query and someone will be there to help you along. It is always difficult to start something new but Spark People make it so easy for us all to achieve our ultimate goals. Take it step by step: a) study the site, b) incorporate good habits from the beginning, c) start exercising, etc.

I'm from Toronto but know London fairly well. Snowshoeing is an excellent exercise if you can do it because you have to lift your knees so high to make the next step. If you are into Xcountry skiing that's good too. As a matter of fact, any exercise is good. My advice is to fill out the trackers every day to see your progress.
