Hi! My name is Karen and I'm a 30-year old dance and Pilates teacher from Alabama. I'm trying to lose 20 incredible stubborn pounds. Sorry I didn't introduce myself before. I'm just starting to really get into the community. When I started SP, I really just wanted to count calories. But I'm starting to see the value of the community now.

Hi all! My name is Kim and I an from Independence, Missouri. I have used Spark before, but never dedicated the time and effort to the whole program. This time around I am really being honest with myself about what I am eating and how much I am exercising. I teach high school science so I have a hectic life, but I want to improve how I feel on a daily basis by developing long-lasting healthy habits and losing weight.

I sincerely hope everyone is off to a great start in the New Year!

Hi everyone. I was on Spark People a couple of years ago, but only used the food and fitness tracker. This time around, I'm going to try the teams and hudles because after all, you do better when people are cheering you on. Soo... Good Luck to us and hope to reinvent myself with new friends along the way.
If I'm posting wrong, please forgive me...I am computerate illiterate.

Hello,

My name is Julie, I am 43 years old and need to lose 44 pounds to reach the top of my healthy weight range. This is my first time with spark people but definitely not my first attempt at losing weight. I have tried Weight Watchers, but the old Weight Watchers plan had too many carbs that just leave me feeling starved. I have tried, South Beach because it is easy to follow and avoids the corn & soy that l am allergic to. I am currently working on increasing the amount I exercise and am following a low carb diet. Tracking really helps identify where I am spending my calories.

I was a member of spark people a long time ago. I think it was shortly after spark started- maybe 10 years ago? Anyway, I'm back again and recommitting to losing weight.

I am 31 and my starting weight was 150lbs exactly, 1wk, 6 days ago. I'm now down to 145 as of this morning.

Some friends of mine were having fantastic success on the Dukan diet. Since it did offer some vegetarian options I decided to try it too. BAD idea. I turned into one big ball of stress and cravings. I was miserable and after 3 days, I had lost 1lb (compared to the 3-5 most eople seemed to lose). But, this experience gave me the kick in the pants I needed to get back on the weightloss train.

I remembered that I bought a book called "The Instinct Diet" way back in 2008. I liked it a lot at the time and lost a couple of pounds but was traveling a lot at the time, and just couldn't keep it up. I'm home more now so figured this was the right time to restart.

Tomorrow is my last day of the first phase and I'm very pleased with the results. I have been able to stick to the 1200 calorie plan with no cravings or hunger with a little weight shed each day. I really feel the full 8 week plan is feasible for me and can't wait to see how things shape up.

I don't necessarily have a goal # in mind. Initially I thought if I could get to 135, I'd be happy. But spending some time lurking on the boards, and reading more about this eating plan- I'm feeling like that is a very conservative number... so I'm just going to see how things go.

I recently sprained my ankle in a horseback riding injury so I'm sidelined for activity for now. I'm very bummed to be missing out on the hiking, riding, snow shoeing, snow boarding and general walking I'd be enjoying this time of year normally and hoping to get active again soon.

I am looking forward to getting to know my fellow team members!

This is probably my third time trying sparkpeople, and I'm hoping to stick with it this time. My problem (well, one of them) is that I tend to have an all or nothing mentality, where if I don't track every single thing I've eaten or excerise every single day I end up quitting. My new take on this whole process is to just do the best I can, hopefully a little better than the day before, and not beat myself up over it.

All that being said...

My name is Nina, I just turned 31, and I've been married for five years. I'm starting (again) the Couch to 5k program tomorrow. Although I have 75 lbs to lose, I'm concentrating on my first goal of 22 lbs, which is 10% of my total weight.

I'm looking forward to being active on this page and getting to know you all better!

Hi everyone! My name is Erika and I joined last week, posting first time today. I am new to Spark People and have been loving the food and exercise tracker. I've got 2 1/2 hours to go before I'm done at work and my goal for the day is to not eat any holiday snacks that are in the staff lounge. :-)

Hello Everyone, My name is Terri. I was a previous member of Spark and did well but as always life seemed to have gotten in the way and here I am 5 years older and more to lose (on top of what I had before).
But I am not going to dwell in the past. My (Our) health is more important and I know that with all your help this will be a successful venture.
Thank you in advance to the Class of Dec 25-31, 2011. Wishing you all success and if you need a place to vent or cry or just need a good word or support please look me up. I will be leaning on all of you for help as well.
Cheers

I joined last week in preparation to get started today, and I'm really excited but a little overwhelmed. I have done different weight programs before, but have never really had much success. I'm hoping this one will change all of that. My big goal for the year is to lose 100 lbs (will have more to lose next year, as well....but 100 for 2012 is daunting enough), and I know I need to break it down into smaller goals to keep myself on track. I'll work on that. This year is the year, though. I have been through a lot in the past couple of years, from brain surgery to family issues, lost jobs and so on. 2012 is the year I am reclaiming my life for me.

Hi, I'm Karissa. I'm 35 and have 4 boys all in the same elementary school where I teach part time. I'm also finishing my Masters this year. I'm 40 pounds heavier than when I got married 15 years ago, and this year my goal is to lose half of those. I like exercise and hate dieting, but am committed to tracking my food.
I know it's only January 1, but I kept all my resolutions today and I'm proud.

Hello and Happy New Year!

I am new to SP, but I have used a site similar to this in the past.

I am 42 years old and have 20+ lbs to lose. I have been married 18 years to my high school sweetheart and we have 3 kids. My daughter will graduate high school this year and my boys are in 8th and 5th grades.

Losing weight seems to be getting tougher as I age. The boys keeps us very busy and finding time to workout has been a struggle - or at least that's my excuse! :-)

I hate the extra weight so I am ready to get serious - I know SP will be helpful in for accountability and the support I can get from my SP community!

Good luck to all of us!

Hello I have over 150 lbs to lose and this is going to be the year to do it. I have been on Sparks once before but I gave up about 2 weeks in. I am not going to do that this year. This will be MY year.

Hi everyone! I was on Sparkpeople a little over a year ago and (like a lot of us!) I let it fade out, but I still have 17 pounds that need to go away so I'm back and feeling good about my decision to restart and make it happen this time.

Hi all!
I'm not really new to spark, but I had ups and downs, and last year decided to go slow.
My life was a ioio diet, and finally I decided to break the cicle. This ending year I lost and maintained the loss of 10 Kg, so I'm ready to loose another 15 in 2012. I know it's slow, but I can't afford to gain again, so I need to do it right. I'm changing my life, not dieting.

I was reading your posts waiting for the moment to write my own, and SMRTBLONDE77 gave it to me, because... I live in Portugal!
Now you have someone here encouraging you emoticon

Hope we all find our way of doing this, and I know that with Sparkpeople we will. And with the support of each other, of course.
Have a great 2012 emoticon

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to this site, and I guess I'll start by introducing myself. I'm currently at the highest my weight has ever gone, and I want it OFF. I have been slowly gaining weight due to a sedentary lifestyle over the past few years, but I started taking Zoloft a year ago and my weight skyrocketed up about 65 pounds. My career is on the line, as I work in a limelight. I used to be a news anchor... but the weight gain has kind of put that on hold. I was supposed to move to Portugal to do news in english there... but because of the weight gain... they sent me to Kansas instead, where I'm doing more behind-the-scenes work. However, they don't really need me for that, so if I don't lose at least two inches by February I'm fired. And the rest has to come off by the end of the year. Not to mention the fact that I juuuust got engaged, and by god, I want to look good in a wedding dress (I also finally met his sisters over Christmas and they're all half my size). Obesity runs in my family, but I watched my mother spend the last year working her butt off (literally). She lost 70 pounds and just ran a half marathon last month. I have so many reasons to be motivated... but I still just don't think I can do this without help. So I decided to try this site since I've heard wonderful things about it... and everything I've seen so far has been super helpful. So good luck to everyone and hopefully we can all do this!

Hi everyone! I've been reading through some of the intros, and I wish I could respond to each one. There is so much positive-ness here and I'm so happy that all of you have found SparkPeople and decided to change your life.

I saw we have some veterans of SP, as well as new SP friends...regardless if this is your first time trying to regain your self or starting over again, you are here and that is what counts. I've started over several times, but I've gained strength each time, and now I know I'm on the right track.

A little about my weight gain...I was in the Navy and hurt my back. Two surgeries later, I started gaining, little by little. Then I got married, which included four stepchildren (two who lived with us), a father-in-law who had alzheimers, a couple of family deaths later (including my dad and dad-in-law), a miscarriage last year, and there I sat, weighing more than I had ever weighed, and feeling like crap.

I found SP in the midst of all this, and slowly started changing things, little by little. I still have temptations and battle with the "oh crap, it's 6:00 am and I need to get up and go work out", but I do it, most of the time (haha).

I am so excited to see all of you here and starting that journey. It is exciting to see the positive changes within yourself and hopefully those around you. This website is fantastic, and many months later I still am learning new things about it.

Remember that this is a lifestyle change; DIETS DO NOT WORK!!! They just deplete you of what you want, then you overindulge later. Start exercising, even if you feel its not much...a walk to the mailbox when you weren't doing it before is SOMETHING, and that will grow as you get stronger.

And something that I keep in my head: I didn't put this weight on overnight, so I need to realize I can't take it off overnight.

Hugs to all of you for taking this huge step to your healthy future!!!

Hello! I'm new to Spark & am very excited to have found it! I do have a tendency to start strong and fizzle out, though, and I'm hoping all the variety here will keep me going.

My short-term goal is to lose 5 pounds and develop some strength & stamina for a short trip to the Keys I got for a combined Christmas/50th birthday gift from my husband. We're leaving in 3 weeks! Then I want to lose another 15 pounds before my older daughter's wedding in September. (All those pictures!! lol)

I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do, and how I can help others on this journey!
Jen.

Hello all!

I am not totally new to Spark, but am starting over AGAIN today! I joined in Feb. 2010 and lost 20 pounds. My motivation then was my class reunion that fall. But then afterwards I stopped SP and this past year I have gained 24 pounds. I feel totally out of control. Had a dr. appt. today and spent a lot of time talking about my weight. SP helped me so much in 2010 and I'm looking forward to great things in 2012.

Hi, I'm not new to SP either. I got too involved in challenges, over stressed, then was diagnosed with diabetes and IBS. I crashed during the summer and quit life for awhile. I am recovering from a fall and my stress level is slowly getting lower so am back with a strict resolve not to do any challenges. I lost 30 pounds last year on Spark but put 10 back on while I sat around depressed. So glad it was only 10! Anyway, looking forward to a new run with some new and old friends.

About me: I am 61, semi retired Avon rep, owned by a Corgi and 2 cats, and sometimes the hubby gets involved too. I live in northern Saskatchewan beside the Saskatchewan River in the forest area. I like to make web graphics, read books, and play games. The only exercise I like is walking and dancing.

Hi, I am back and this time I will make it. I was active at one point too. I also was a Team Leader. I am going to focus hard and not quit!

Maggie you are not alone. I am at a all time high and I remember telling someone once, and I am sure they thought I was joking, that you know you are fat when you try on your pregnancy pants and they won't go above your knees. A sad tale, but true. emoticon

Eat well, drink in moderation, and sleep sound, in these three good health abound.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am also new to SP and am still figuring out the ins and outs of the site but so far, so good. I really like that I can track my nutrition and exercise, which helps me to see what and where I need to tweak my plan. Good luck to all and I hope to see you on the boards and at the finish line.

Hi

My name is Marilyn and I am not new to Spark. I used to be very active member and was leader of my state team and several other ones. I left spark over a year and half ago. It has been a while and I am back.

I don't want to make the same mistakes I did the first time. So I am taking it slow and see what happens.

I just signed up with Spark People and I am already getting excited about starting the new year with a focus on getting fit and healthy. I have a lot of weight to lose so I am eager to get started. I have a daughter who was born in May 2010. I lived a very healthy lifestyle prior to her birth but since having her my weight has spiraled out of control. I want to be a good example for her as she continues to grow into a young lady. I don't want her to look at me and think this is what a woman should look like. I am ready to get healthy and fit again!! Happy New Year!!

Hi i am new and just trying to figure this all out. I am going to start with my fast break goals and go from there . This is a long journey for me. A marathon not a race as a Dr. told me.

This is my 3rd day on Spark- it is such a lot of information to figure out on the website, but the team that seems the natural place for me to make my first post, is my "Class" Dec, Wk 4 2011.

Hello to all and I hope that we can all help each other achieve our goals. My goal is 49lbs, but I realized on Day 2 (after setting my goals) that I read the doctor's office scale at my gym incorrectly so I may scale that down in time. Here's to hoping I can stick with my Spark team and my goals, one week at a time for now.

Wishing you all the best....

Hey everyone... day 1 and not counting lol... I have a long way to go and realize its gonna take some time to get there... Mostly I want to be healthy and happy from the inside out... I have had to face the fact that I tend to all those around me first and myself not really at all.... Its time to make me a priority.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing our journey's together.

hugs to all Kapri

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I definitely need the kick in the butt to change my eating habits and "exercise" routine. I want to get healthy and feel better without being on so much medication. I feel like my medication is more of a killer to me than a helper. Thank you so much again and I hope everyone continues to do their best to get and remain healthy, active, and positive!

Welcome to SparkPeople! This is a great time to get started on your new healthy lifestyle with a new year right around the corner! It is great to be a part of great team! I'm fortunate enough to have found SP in February 2010, and have made so many positive changes, both with my nutrition and exercise. It is something that I will continue to work on, as we all will, but SP has really changed my life!

I hope you will enjoy this website and our team. Check out the trackers; I tell everyone to use the nutrition tracker...it was an eye-opener for me. Read articles, get involved with message boards and other teams.

It will be great getting to know you and be a part of your fantastic healthy lifestyle journey!

Congratulations on making the decision to begin your journey to health this week. A hard week for most of us - after many occasions for over-celebrating, partying, and making excuses for indulgences - and not the end yet!
