Hi everyone, I have been on this journey for a long time. Everytime I reach my goal, I seem to give myself permission to "celebrate" and then I'm on this same road, again. Praying this time is the right time for me. I am 52, daughters are grown, my first grandbaby is 6 months and I have been married for 33 years. My goal is to lose about 32.7 pounds by October 15th, 2012.

Hello, everyone, and Happy New Year.

I think I am writing in the right box, but I am new to the site and could be mistaken. Please do not be too rough on me if I am posting here errantly.

Anyway, I am obviously new to the site and looking to lose 50+.

I live in Central Jersey with my wife, Christine, and toddie daughter, Jocelyn, plus a couple of cats and a fairly neurotic dog named Falkor (after character from the movie, Never Ending Story).

My field is education (public school administration) and my life's work is with kids.

I enjoy reading, swimming and crisp walks in late fall and early winter.

Thanks for reading.

Hi I'm Cheri and I joined SP because I need to lose at least 26lbs to get to a healthy weight for my height of 5'2. I am sick of having no energy and having most of my clothes not fit me. Its time for a change.

Hi, I am Sophia and I currently reside in NC. I never had to worry about my weight until I gave birth to my son almost 9 years ago. My weight has fluctuated over the years and I am to the point where I am sick and tired of fad diets! I enjoy working out, however, my issue is my caloric intake- I love to eat! My goal is to lose 21lbs by 1 Apr 2012 and to develop and maintain healthier eating habits. Team good luck on your journey. I wish you the very best! WE CAN DO THIS! :)

Hello! I'm 27, and I've been married for almost six years now and I have an awesome little girl who is four years old. I work in the floral department at a grocery store, and for the most part I really enjoy my job and hope to move up to management soon.
A few years ago I managed to gain a lot of weight. I was only five pounds shy of what I weighed when I was nine months pregnant! I managed to lose nearly 25 pounds over about two years, only to have gained 20 of them back over this past summer.
I would like to lose the weight again (hopefully another 20 on top of it) and keep it off this time.

Hi guys,

I just finished Michelle Bridges 12 week body transformation (Michelle is the biggest loser trainer in Australia), and lost 20 lbs! I will probably re-start her program again in Feb., but thought that Sparkpeople might be a good complement, and I can always use the extra support! I'd like to lose another 20 by my birthday in April.

Great to meet all of you. I'm an American living in Singapore so if most of you are in the US I'll be posting in the wee hours of the morning :-)

Hello all, I am returning to Spark People after losing 19kg in 2009, and now having put on too much again. I understand healthy eating and follow a moderately health diet, because I have kids mainly, and I am quite active too, walking and cycling often. My main problem is binge-eating which is responsible for fast weight gain, when I binge on chocolate and cookies in secret, and sometimes for days on end. I've lately been focusing on my spiritual development, and trying to incorporate more presence in my life, which has been helping me to maintain a focus, and keep the binge-eating demon at bay.

Welcome Living_Simple, MaryLiz, Impetus4change, Emilycee, K_Davies, Ghoulfang, Tanandtone87, Wildflower, Smbrink87, Frank, Tessa, and Anncatherine!

You all have very interesting stories and it looks like you have great reasons and motivation to make your goals happen. Lots of you have mentioned hoping to find inspiration and friends. If you havenít found it yet there are teams for a lot of the major cities and all of the states. Those teams can be a great place to learn about events near you and maybe meet someone like you that is closer to home, possibly even a workout buddy!

Good luck on your journeys and visit the Progress message board to let us know of you successes, no matter how big or small!

Hello- I used to be fit & trim but after a stressful move, a new job, and sending both of my children to college...I have managed to gain an unsightly 20 pds. I "will" lose them and my goal is another 5. My whole family is in fantastic shape except me, I sometimes feel out of place, my clothes are tight and 2 sizes more than I want them to be. So, here I am.

Hi Everyone. I'm 46 and have been married to my amazing high school sweetheart for 25 years this past summer. We have 3 beautiful daughters who are 15, 9, and 6 years old. I am involved with a dog rescue, Great Pyrenees to be exact. Though we have 2 permanent dogs sometimes we have as many as 16 at a time, most of them puppies. Yes, my darling husband deserves a medal!!

I've had a very difficult 2011 and am truly looking forward to 2012. I lost 4 close family members to cancer, my father, my step dad, my aunt, and my eldest sister. Then, in August my immediate family was involved in a terrible auto accident which left every member of our family with broken bones. I had the least serious with a broken foot and injured back, then my 15 year old daughter has a broken tail bone and severe deep tissue bruising and calcification within her muscles, our 9year old broke her back in 3 places and broke a rib off her spine, our 6year old had multiple facial broken bones and a broken nose and had plastic surgery and my husband has a broken neck. So, we've been battling to regain our health and our equalibrium.

However, as tragic as all this seems, we, each one of us, is very thankful to have our immediately family in tact. It could have been every so much worse. And, with time, we'll all heal.

I had lost 31 pounds as of the accident and was feeling pretty good but have now gained all but 4 pounds back. And as you might guess, my motivation for losing weight is at an all time low. I weigh 231 pounds and would love to change that number to 135 pounds.

I stumbled onto this site and I'm finding some excitement and some motivation just reading about all of you. Its nice to meet other fellow travelers on this journey...you know, someone to cheer you on or someone to offer you a hand when you happen to stumble.

Hi All,

I've tried many times to eat healthier and get fit. I've never tried a group like this before. I'm hoping that this will work for me.

I play soccer 3 times per week with over-40 teams and I'm sure that shedding the extra 40 to 50 lbs would help me to avoid frequent injuries. I'm really good a sabotaging my my own progress. I'm in the habit of eating an extra meal or high calorie snacks late at night.

I hoping that being part of this group will create a sense of common purpose and accountability. The trackers that I've seen on these pages are certainly inspirational!

Good luck everyone!

Frank

Hello, hope I am doing this correctly- I just joined up last night. I am 34 probably 40lbs overweight. I don't really do anything, I have a very sedentary job and lifestyle that has to change. My boyfriend was in a terrible accident and will be in hospital for many months, but when he comes home I have to be able to keep up with his rehab and be his caregiver. I can not do that if I am fat and tired! I have gained and lost the same 10 lbs over and over but I am no longer wanting to just lose weight and look better, I want to become fit too. I love food (big sweet tooth) and hate exercise so hopefully sparkpeople will be key to keeping me on track.

Hi!
Iím on SparkPeople the very first time and already hooked for hours. Iím doing a lot of weight training, but canít get myself into eating healthily. As I have problems gaining muscle for some time now and Iíd love to lose some body fat, I thought a healthy diet would be perfect. As it turns out, I always fail, if I try it alone at home. Now I hope that the step outside my comfort zone will help me to keep at it. All in all I hope to lose 16 pounds of body fat and gain muscle again.

Hi :) I'm Emily, I'm 19 and live in Australia. Hopefully I post this correctly!
I'm here because I want to look in the mirror and be happy with what I see, and needed some help from people who know what they're talking about, because I sure don't. Looking to increase overall health, fitness and appearance more than focusing on weight loss. Loving the site so far, especially since they have tutorials explaining how to use it. Looking forward to using the site to help me achieve my goals & it's nice to meet others going through the same challenges :)

Hello Everyone!
Over the past several years I have been steadily gaining weight to where I am now need to loose close to 80 pounds. I can't count how may times I started and stopped various diet/exercise plans. I have decided that this is it for me its now or never and the longer I wait to get started the harder it will get.

Hi, I'm also Mary and I'll also be 27 in January! I'd like to lose about 15 lbs but I want to change my habits permanently, so I'm trying to incorporate regular exercise and more cooking/healthier meals. I have a fullt-time job as an IT Project Manager, a boyfriend of over 2 years and a 10 lb terrier rescue who is a total disaster.

I do well with challenges and buddies so I'm looking forward to being a part of this community!

Hello! I am 36 and need to get healthy! I am pretty much a couch potato right now. I like to do things like walks/ cycle/ kayak and such but getting up and motivated to do them is a real chore. I have put on extra weight since I quit smoking 6 years ago and that weight has really bogged me down. No energy! I work full time, have two teenagers and am engaged to the love of my life. Life is really super good to me, and I have very little to complain about. I just need to get off the darn couch and take care of myself. I think spark people may just be the motivation I have been needing and I hope to make some new friends in the process.

Hi! My name is Stephanie and I'm 25 years old. I'm trying to lose weight for a few reasons. One, because I want to fit into my jeans from college and look super hot, but more importantly I NEED to lose weight for health reasons. I've been dealing with back problems for a decade which include spondylolisthesis, degenerative disc disease, a double level lumbar spinal fusion, deep instrumentation removal and fusion repair surgery, and my latest diagnosis consists of degeneration of a different disc and arthritis. BASICALLY, I broke my back, it slid outta place, a few of my discs tore collapsed on themselves, and I had my spine fused... twice. My surgeon gave me a laundry list of physical activities that I will never be allowed to do again, which makes it difficult to work out (and I HATE diets). So this is a challenge. But I'm ready. I'm just going to take things day by day and stay optimistic.

Hi, my name is Mary. I'm 27 (omg I'm 27) and in the past two years I've gotten married, bought a house, and started my MBA. We're planning on making our family bigger in the next two years (beyond our cocker spaniel emoticon ) and I want to make sure I'm a healthy and active mom and happy with myself. While I'd like to lose 20lbs, I feel the best way to achieve my goals is to eat healthier and consistently exercise...the smaller pant size will naturally follow suit.

It's great to meet all of you and I look forward to the support system!

Hi everyone. I'm 31 and I want to loose 15 pounds for my wedding in May! My aunt recommended this sight and she's a total inspiration to me loosing over 50 pounds and staying slim for years afterward. I've been able to loose weight in the past and I know how hard it is. It's even harder to keep it off. After I loose 15 pounds by May I would like to loose another 5 pounds to reach my ultimate target weight. Good luck to the rest of the 'class' of Dec 2011.

Hello everyone! I'm Christine from NC, a 41 year old wife, mom and soon to be grandmother. After many years of killing myself with fast food and a sedentary lifestyle - and many attempts to change - I've finally realized the secret....

I have to put myself first!!

As a wife and mom that's much easier said than done...but for the first time in my life I've started doing it. I've turned my lunch hour into a 1-1/2 mile walk. I've turned my trips to the office restroom into a hike up our three floors (ugh stairs). I've started bringing my lunch and eating throughout the day instead of a big meal twice a day. I've established a routine that puts me first! This time there will be NO starting over on Monday!!!

Christine

Hi everyone.....I just joined the site this morning - I am hopeful that this is day 1 of a healthier lifestyle. My hope is to lose about 50lb, it's time to do it! I am a divorced mother of 2, and I want to get healthier for my kids as well as the man in my life now. But most importantly, I want to be healthier for ME.

Hey I am new to Sparkpeople! I am looking to loose a bunch of weight but at least 25 pounds to start out. I just had a baby about 3 and a half months ago and now want to feel good again! I am trying to live healthier and be active. I am currently at the weight I was a year ago when I found out I was pregnant, but I was at my heaviest back then. I would like to loose about 40-50 pounds in the long run.

Hi! I am Adrien, new to sparkpeople, I've been trying to lose weight my entire life! My best friend from High school recommended this site and it has worked tremendous for her. So I'm going to give it a try and I hope this finally works. I hope to lose 30-40lbs.

Hello

I am Jo. I need to lose at least 50 pounds. I just retired and have more time for me, so I thought this would be a good beginning. I find this sight a little overwhelming and trying to find my way around.
I accidently got on to a sparkpage and pushed someone's team button and found an interesting challenge. It doesn't start for awhile so will have plenty of time to find my way around sparkpeople in the meantime.

Off to find a friend or two.

Hey Everyone! My name is Jessica and I'm BACK on SP for the third (or fourth or fifth...) time. It's time for me to get back at this and stop giving up on myself. Glad to be a part of this team :)

Hey all, my name is Ashley. I have been on the site off and on before but have decided that I really need to kick it up a notch and make it work this time. I got on the scale today and realized that I am 15 pounds heavier than I have ever been in my life. I would like to lose 95 pounds but have to lose around 85 to be in the healthy range for my height.
I tend to let other things and my crazy family get in the way of going to the gym or taking time to prepare a healthy meal for myself (I've tried to get them on board but they aren't interested). I go to school, work, and (like I said) have a crazy family. In the past I have found it hard to stay with a diet and exercise plan. I could really use some tricks and motivation to stay with it this time, since that's where I know I struggle.

~Ashley~

Hello all,

Name's Matt, tried this before, couldn't figure out how to reset my account, so created a new one with an all new approach.

I lack the motivation and will power to do what I know I should be doing, so I really hope to change that aspect and see some real results.

Hi all- This is one of your SparkPeople Team leaders checking in to say hello and welcome you! I have been part of SparkPeople for almost 5 years with being extremely involved the last two years. Within those last two years I have managed to lose approximately 75lbs, go from size 16 to size 6-8, and get my nutrition, exercise, and blood work in check. I am now a little more than 6 months pregnant expecting my first, a little girl, in early March!

Please introduce yourself here by telling us a little about your background.
