I have been having some issues, so going gluten free for a month to see how that helps.

I'm not following any diet right now. Just trying to eat 3 smaller, healthy meals a day plus a couple of healthy snacks. If I stick to it, I know it will help me be healthier if not lose the weight! Gotta stay as healthy as possible!

GREAT!! And Kathryn is doing the diet too and losing weight! If you're on the internet, you can go to the author of that book's site . . . she answers all questions, etc. It makes sense to me, just hope I stay with it. I'm terrible for not following through.

Maybe with you and Kathryn doing it also, it will encourage me to keep it up!!

Yesterday (Jan 26) was my first day on The Every-Other-Day Diet. It is as it says: one day is fast day where you eat 500 calories of healthy food and the next day is eat all you want of any food but I am making that day (today) as a healthy 3 meal & snacks day. I don't intend to eat junk food, pastries, etc.!! I felt okay last night after the fast day . . . I'll stay with this diet to see how I feel and how it works. It would be great to see a few pounds off my body, that would be encouraging.

As it was, I was not making much progress before starting this new diet. Time will tell!

I have used the spark people plan for the last two years and it is great. However, I too am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers from years ago. This year I needed something to renew my "spark", so I am doing Weight Watchers again. However, for support and encouragement, it is all Sparkpeople!! You are the best!

When I was younger, Eat and Reduce was perfect for me.
It was so healthy, although not as many calories, as they say you should have.
It does not work, like it used to, now that I am in my 50's.

Shirley did you win your big pin at weight watchers? I have mine after all of these years. It is still more expensive than TOPS. I became disctrict queen at TOPS for losing the most pounds that year.

Spark is a healthy life style not a diet but I still read some diet books. Some of the recipes on Spark I wonder about. Things like sugar butter, white flour, etc.

I lost weight with weight watchers as well. I quit TOPS last year when I was offered a chance to work Tuesdays (when they hold the meetings). I wonder if I should go back?

I'm sorry that you are retaining water and swelling. Hopefully, the doctors will be able to help you manage the condition.

I still use a lot of weight watchers cookbooks. I really did like the program.

Years ago when I lived in Mexico I became a life time member of weight watchers.
I gained it back.
This time I lost my weight with TOPS and Spark which teach the same thing and I have been more successful. Right now it is difficult as I am swelling so much and retaining fluid.

Instead of tracking, AFTER I eat,( I can't stand doing it) it is more helpful to ME, to plan what I am going to eat and write it down. Then I only need to DO IT!
This thread has spurred me on to doing just that.

I will know ahead of time, what I am eating in calories, protein, gluten and such.
It will also help me have the food, at the ready, not just reaching in and grabbing whatever.

Shirley, when I did South Beach and was successful, I did best when I did the plan, as they had written, day by day, to the letter....at least for the first two weeks.

Shirley, I HATE tracking! I'm tracking my food in a journal and find that so boring and simply don't like doing it. I know I won't track longer than this month, it doesn't really help me. It's a terrible struggle, isn't it?
I cannot plan my meals, although I'd love to. It depends on how Rolly is feeling and what he wants to eat. For instance, he may say he just wants soup for supper when I've planned a nice chicken meal! So he gets the soup and chances are I'll just make me a peanut butter sandwich! That's not good and I will graze later because I'm hungry.

We'll have to put our heads together and come up with solutions to these things!

I struggle with planning and tracking which I think tends to sabotage me. If I get too hungry and don't know what I'm supposed to be cooking I eat incorrectly. Often, I eat too little, get hungry again and graze instead of 3 good meals a day.

I'm just following the spark program . . . to eat sensibly, small portions, exercise regularly.
When I feel it isn't working for me, I take a deep look and see that it is ME that isn't working it! I need to be downright serious or I'm never going to get the weight off!!

I'm no good with specific diets like South Beach, I don't like difficult, I like to be able to eat most things, just in proper portions, but that's just me.

I am trying to follow the South Beach diet. I like how I feel when I am successful following the plan. I love the way I feel when I follow the plan, however I find it challenging sometimes to limit my carbs. Also, I find that I really need the support of my fellow Sparkers as the diet is book based, so you are on your own.

With so many different diet programs from "Clean Eating" to "Weight Watchers", it's interesting to see what diet program you are following. What aspects of the program do you like and what parts of the program do you find challenging?
