The superstition here is that you have to eat a mince pie every day from Christmas to Twelfth Night to ensure 12 months' luck, or happiness or something. Anyway, we try to do it, but often don't get the full 12 months' worth.

Think not. Do.

We're a hispanic family, mostly gearing toward Puerto-Rican. My mom usually makes this drink called coquito which is like a latin egg nog and we have a turkey for thanksgiving but mostly we eat pork shoulder during the holidays. Also my family makes these little pastries, called pasteles, made of mushed plantain with pork shoulder meat, potatoes, chayote and olives during these holidays and we have one pastry (at least) at every meal, lol! We open Christmas presents the day of and we make it an all day affair!

My son-in-law's family has Polish origins, so we all get together for our Christmas meal on Christmas Eve. Presents are exchanged then, and Polish pickled herring is eaten by all who like them at least. Then we sing carols in as many languages as we can manage.

Think not. Do.

What are some things you and your family do for the holidays? Do you sit around the television after Thanksgiving dinner and watch some football? Do you leave that tray of Christmas cookies out for Santa? Tell us here what you do every year when the holidays roll around!
