Thanks for asking about the name - we are "owned" by 16 rescued exotic birds (small parrots, lovebirds, cockatiels and budgies). No children, so we need to keep healthy to ensure a forever home for our feathered family!

Hi 16BIRDIES and welcome to the team! I love your name and am curious about what it signifies! Anyway, as others have already said, we are here to help. When your insurance kicks in and you can make your appointment for a colonoscopy, we will celebrate with you. The recommended age is 50, so hopefully you have no problems at this point. Congratulation on picking a good family who have great genes. Even so, with medical screenings, you may start a new trend for your family of living past 100! Please feel free to ask any of us questions if you have any. We all care and want to support folks any way we can to make sure they get screened appropriately.

Thanks to all for your warm welcomes! For those who asked, our panhandle is Amarillo, Texas. Hot and hot - but lived in Phoenix in my younger days - so not too much a surprise.

You never know when health information can come in handy, either for yourself, your loved ones or friends. I am always up for new info. It's been a while since I had any health issues, but they weren't great surprises either. We must always keep on top of things and not let any fear keep us from taking the best care of ourselves we can.

I am excited to be part of the team!

Welcome 16Birdies! I, too, am glad for your insurance now and your very positive attitude toward screenings and tests. Hope your optimism will encourage others who are still 'on the fence' about this screening.

We're here to answer questions and encourage others on this team.

Do let us know when you schedule your colonoscopy and how it goes.

emoticon 16BIRDIES!

Glad to hear things are going better for you and your family. Also, happy to hear that you have plans to do some health screening when your insurance kicks in.

There are about 15 of us on this panel who are participating in an effort to answer questions and allay fears others may have about colon cancer screening. Since it has apparently been several years since you've had any of this done, I suggest you read our stories and messages (posted on this team under "Colon Cancer Screening Stories from Other Members--Forum 1, Forum 2 and Forum 3. You may be surprised at how much different the various types of screening are now, compared to just a few years ago. If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to ask any or all of us by posting here, on any of our stories/messages, or privately by sending a "Private Message/SparkMail to us.

We would like a "status report" from you when you are able to make arrangements for the testing, etc.

P.S. I'm also curious about "the panhandle"--Texas, Oklahoma???

Welcome, 16BIRDIES! You sound like you have everything in place and that your future looks bright! I'm glad you are keeping yourself informed on screenings in general.

I don't know how long of a lifespan I'm liable to have. My family have died early on, but they made bad lifestyle choices, did not get screened for anything, and did not seek treatment for disorders until they had terminal illnesses. Good for your for your great family history.

Again, welcome! Your encouragement and comfort level will help all the others who are struggling with their decision to get screened.

Margie

Welcome to the team! Glad you have insurance so you can get everything checked out - it sure makes a difference. And, by the way, educate me please - panhandle? Texas?

Greetings! New member - finally got time to intro myself. Am in my late 50's. Have not had a screening in a long time and the last time was for a hysterectomy. Not scared of having it done at all - had both an upper and lower GI for gall bladder issues with no problems.

We recently moved to the panhandle from the northwest, and finally my spouse has a job!!! Which means insurance and the ability to take better care of health. So when insurance kicks in, I can finally get that annual physical that I haven't had in a long time, and then schedule all the things we had to put off. I do a lot of research online for a variety of medical info (and always watch Dr. Oz). So these tests are important. Thankfully my family has no history of much of anything except living into their late 90's :)

Hi to everyone!!
