My doc took off 6 pounds. It is not a lot (and I have gained back more than that, although I am nowhere near where I was when I first started) but the difference still shows. I would have been miserable if it had not been done. The excess skin felt like a scarlet W for weight loss. Of course I am not ashamed of who I was before or anything of the sort. It's more like, sheesh, it's my own business. Why should everyone else be treated to it every time I want to wear a short top?
In my boobs I had a total of 1200 grams removed but because after the surgery you are a bit swollen you don't really seem to lose weight at all!:-) I think in the abdominoplasty I had about 700 grams removed--same thing. I took before pictures, and on days I wonder if it was worth it, I pull those out. Yes, it was worth it, no matter what people may say. I think some of the weight loss shows have shown what excess skin after massive weight loss looks like, though, and that's a good thing!
Thanks to all my SparkFriends who have supported me through this journey to health!
There is also, I think, a pretty large chunk of people who seem to feel that this is * frivolous * an easy way to lose weight (sheesh, it's only a few pounds and surgery is not exactly an easy thing) * cheating somehow
I asked my friend Jes to join, 'cuz I knew she'd had the surgery and was hoping maybe she could help answer some of my questions in a common forum.
Information about this subject is just so rare on SP. I'm amazed that there aren't more people here. It's a common issue!
Instead, I seem to stumble across people here and there who have opted for skin removal, but there was no central place to find them and ask about how it was -- and how they feel about it now, after some time has passed.
Never, ever, EVER give up!
