Hi,

I'm 32 years old, 96 currently after a bad bout of stress and having gradual weight gain after moving to the US. Luckily a lot of it is muscle, but my normal adult weight has always been 91-92 (without much dieting but eating healthy and low levels of exercise. I did not change weight at all when I went on vacation to Europe - when my profile picture was taken -, but the US seems to have a lot of bad food I have to say!). American portion sizes and processed food (even "health" food) have really messed up my eating. I'd simply like to fit my old clothes again and look lean and toned + have my old face again. (Probably odd to taller people but I look kind of "poofy" and round-faced at this weight even if I'm 5'2, and I'm Asian as well.) Besides shedding the extra few pounds I'd like to keep myself on maintenance weight while living here, which is harder than I thought it would be.

I'm 4 feet 11 and weigh around 130lbs atm.

I think 100lbs would be a good weight for me, 80lbs it too skinny in my view.

I read that your frame size can be figured this way:

If you can circle your wrist (at the wrist bones) with opposite hand (touching thumb and forefinger)...if they can barely touch/touch ....you are medium build (me) .....if your fingers overlap you are small build, if your fingers can not touch at all, you are a large frame.

I always guessed I was med. but nice to kinda verify it. I was is great shape couple of years ago doing weights and toned and awesome. I loved my 5'1.5 at 117# . When I was 115# my collar bones protruded too much for my liking and made me look too skinny.

Of corse my tummy is the absolute last place to loose weight on my body. Now starting over at 127# again, I know I can do it, but have to without the gym which is hard. Really tough when people see me and think I'm crazy for "watching what I eat". I only work out 2-3 day week so tested that I needed 1000-1200 to loose weight when I did metobolic testing w/ gym(who brings in hospital nurse w/ machine).

If you don't love yourself....how can you expect others to.

Wow, ladies!

I am 5'0 and weight 108. This is my lowEST! since March 2008 when I reached 111 and that was because I was doing exercise 3 times a day (morning, mid-day, and evening).

After that I went up and down, many many times. The second time I decided to lose the weight I mades to 113 and that was back in April 2009. For my wedding in 2010 I made it to 116 and in matters of 6 months I creeped up to 131. And yes I felt fat. So DH decided to start doing exercise again and get into bikini shape ready for our first anniversary.

Well, in 3 months I lose that and more, made it to 115, which was my goal. And from there I have maintained the weight. For my birthday in December I was 111, wearing a size 0 skirt from Ann Taylor!

Everything right now is motivation and -GOODWILL POWER-, saying no to bad snacks even if they are not bad, and control control control, and of course water water water.

My goal right now is 105, I don't really seen myself going lower than 100, but who knows.

Good luck to all of you in reaching the goal.

Hi -
I think 95 when you're 4'10" is completely appropriate because it's all relative when you're petite. The challenge for me lately is achieving it. I'm 4'11 and was 101-103 last year, but traveling for work has made it hard to keep the extra pounds off, no matter what I've tried to do. I've even gone back to the same eating habits and exercise routine as last year, but still no results.

I've been extremely discouraged because I eat very well - only clean foods and few carbs - and work out 6 days a week and sometimes twice a day. NO RESULTS. So I am almost at my wit's end. I have a new trainer now who has increased my calories, which is frightening, even though most of those calories are proteins. I'm hoping that this site improves my outlook and keeps me motivated because I am starting to want to give up!

Any advice, best practices or tips are greatly appreciated - and I'll be sure to post anything that is working for me, as well!

Well realizing you need a change is a first step in the right direction! Try doing your hair and makeup in the morning each day, you'll feel better about yourself I promise. When I was in school, I had to study a tremendous amount, and for a while I wouldn't get out of my PJ's til noon. I think getting into a routine and "fixing" myself up each morning boosted my day somehow. Keep me updated!

Thinking positive has never been a strong point of mine. I know you're right, but...well that's another story. My biggest problem is learning to put me somewhere 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd. I'm working on that. Before I worked at home so just got up earlier. Didn't have to do the shower, hair, makeup thing until the house was empty. Now I have to make me important.

Stress stinks! I went through a time where I was under a lot of stress, I was heavier, and when I stress now I can tell I gain some weight back. Try to be positive no matter what! I found that helped, if you enjoy your weight loss journey as opposed to turning it into another stress, you will have better success (or at least a healthy outlook). -Think of it a new challenge you will conquer. You're a mother of 4, that's quite an achievement it itself! Good luck! I suggest a huge glass of water in the morning, for some reason, it gets my day going and I feel better through out the day. It takes a few days to get used to the increased water intake, but it's soooo beneficial in the end.

I'm 5' mom of 4 and I went to a 'eating right' course where I work. They did some test (plugged me up to this machine after increased water intake) and the machine suggested my ideal weight would be 130 pounds. Plainly put, I can starve and still gain weight! Seems under stress my body reacts opposite of everyone else I know! I've had a good 3-5 years of increased, incredible stress and gained 20 pounds for it. I'd be thankfully blessed to even reach 130!

Hey there! I'm 5'0, and my goal weight is 90 ultimately, but for now I'm shooting for a solid 92. I had a vacation for a week and gained almost 2 pounds, but since I'm short, I can feel every inch!
Last summer, I alternated p90x Ken-po (kickboxing) and running every day, and was toned and probably around 92--- all muscle!
I'm about 92.8 right now, with minor fluctuations of course.
Since switching from Diet Cokes to water a few months ago, I feel a lot better. I'm trying to increase my water intake every day. I had some peach slices for breakfast, grilled chicken and salad (sans dressing), and 24 oz of water with a squeezed lemon, among other things today (no sweets!).
Some people think 90 pounds is an awfully low weight, but they don't understand how smaller people can get away with that!

I'm 52, USED to be 5' 1/2" (we all know how necessary it is to announce every quarter inch) but am now 5' on the mark ( and always referred to as the runt of the litter.......sibs can be so kind at times)

I weigh 90 lbs and of course to everyone else I look skinny, but I am not; I am toned. When I joined a gym 6 months ago, my BMI was 18.6%. Now its down to 17.8%
I too would like to see it at 15%.

I was anorexic most of my life and rarely weighed more than 75 lbs, but was totally unhealthy, untoned and looked like a walking skeleton. Now,
I am into strength and endurance and muscle instead of starvation.

I rarely reach 1000 calories, even tho I do 3-4 spin classes a week and 2-3 iron pump. What is really strange is that I have gained muscle, lost body fat, but lost 5 lbs (my PT told me I would probably lose inches as I toned up but that it would show up as weight gain.) Still trying to figure out the math on that one.

I dont diet, but I try to eat as clean as possible.
I would love to buy only organic, but our budget just doesnt allow for that kind of luxury. (Especially when you factor in 3 cats, 2 beagles and a G/S wolf hybrid).

I dont want to look like Charles Atlas in a bra with bulging muscles, I just want to look lean and muscular and FEEL strong.

I was always the short, skinny, klutzy kid picked last for every athletic game. When I used to come home in grade school crying, my mother (also a shortie) used to to tell me:

"When people tease you because your tiny, you just tell them that diamonds AND dynamite come in pretty small packages as well."

LOL.........I still use that line even today.

Hey JOONMARIA,

I totally get what you're saying. Being short usually means wearing a smaller size (aside from those who have a large frame). People who are taller never realize that. They think that anything smaller than a 3 or 2 is "anorexic."

I'm 5'1.5 and my goal is under 100. I was 94 pounds last summer, but probably could have stood to lose another few pounds. I never told people my REAL weight because if I did they would think it's a "gross" weight to be. so I always said I weigh "105." The truth is I ate around 2000 calories (sometimes more), ran, and did some home strength training exercises, and pilates. So I was FARRRRR from being "underweight" or "unhealthy."

If you feel that's a good weight for you, then go for it girl! Don't let other people try to bring you down.

Welcome! It all depends on your build.

There is a poster on here (not on this team) who is real petite (4'9 I think) and she weighs less than 90 pounds and is all muscle.

Personally I weighed 95 pounds once but I am not sure if I can back down that low. I would be at happy at 105-115.

Hi Joon Maria! You are doing so well - congratulations - it's such hard work so it must feel great to be reaching your goals. I'm starting to exercise again but slowly to make sure I am ok. I have too many health concerns for my age! Mine aren't related to weight though which is good except that it means these aren't things I can change. But I am starting to exercise and that's the good part! I'm restarting my orginal goal of losing 15-20 pounds. So I am very hopeful I will see some changes over the next couple weeks.

Veroco, Hi!! It's been so long!! I've changed my goal to lower bodyfat. I'm glad you're not gaining any weight.

I eat oatmeal for breakfast with egg whites

Midmorning snack, the same

Lunch, fish like salmon or tilapia, or chicken with veggies, like spinach, carrots, artichoke, asparagus, tomatoes, eggplants and/or avocado. Veggies with balsamic vinegar.

Midmorning snack, whey protein with wheat germ

Dinner, same as lunch

And drink lots and lots of water. I recommend "the eat clean diet". It's a lifestyle diet. There are recipes also.

I'm Joon. I'm 5'.

Hi everyone - I haven't been on here in a couple weeks! I'm having some health issues that have taken up a lot of time and energy.
Joonmaria - you're doing great! In just 9 weeks (?) you're pretty close to your goal - congratulations!
In these couple weeks I haven't gained but haven't lost either. I'm continuing to really try to eat less because I have to be really careful with excercise that I don't overdo.
Would some of you share what your typical daily menu is to keep within 1200 calories? I do well with breakfast and lunch but tend to fall apart at dinner - very frustrating.

I am 4'10". My body fat was 35% but is now down to 30% I have set my goal weight to 120 lbs to begin with and even then I break it down to 7 lb goals. When I get to 120 I'll see what I look like and then review it, but not sure if I will look too skinny as I do a lot of exercise and muscle weighs more than fat.

I think its more important to judge what you look like than the numbers on the scale as everyone is sooo different.

Building lean muscle and getting into the lower end of your healthy weight range are ways to decrease your body fat percentage.
You can also ask this question under the message board fitness area for really good suggestions.

What is the best way to reduce your body fat percentage?

My body fat is 24.5% right now. I am new to SP (one month) and I am sticking to a 1200-1550 daily caloric intake and sticking to a min. of 210 min. of cardio a week. I started out with 2 days a week of strength training (following SP's recommended workout for beginners)...

Hi Mary!
I have a tanita scale that measures body fat percentage. It has an error margin, but it gives me an estimate. I am about 20%. When I began my diet and exercise 9 weeks ago, I was about 27%. I was looking at the message boards and it seems that the body fat calipers are more accurate. Wish you lots of luck with your trainer. You will look great with 18%. See you around!

Joonmaria-
I agree with the body fat percentage. You can't just lose weight and not tone up or else you still look flabby. That's what happened to me when I reached my first goal of 105 in December. I went to Cancun on vacation and still looked flabby and soft in my pictures. So I hired a trainer and have been busting my butt with him 3 times a week for about 5 weeks. I've gone from 19.9% to 19.6% in 4 weeks. So I'm hoping for 18% by summer. Fingers are crossed.

Have you gotten your % done recently?

My goal was 90 lbs, but now I changed it to 94 and my main goal is to have a body fat percentage of 15% which is about what people who look "tight and toned" have. I'm now at 20%. I don't want to be one of those skinny fat people who weigh 90 lbs and shrunk fat and muscle at the same time and look soft. Eating clean is the key, plus exercising most days.

Hi everyone! I'm 5" and at 102 right now. I would like to see under 100 but I'm always afraid that it will be too hard to maintain that weight for long. My thinking is 105 is my goal weight and anything under is bonus.
I'm glad to see a group of women who can understand that on a small body, every pound shows. I get tired of hearing "You're already so small, why are you still working out so much?" Because if I don't, that weight will all come back! emoticon

6/11 Carmel 1/2

I suppose I wouldn't mind getting under 100 pounds...the lightest I weighed was 92 pounds in High School (that was over 20 years ago...I will be 40 this year). I am 5'2" and my current goal is 105...when I reach that, you never know, I may establish new goals. :-)) Lucille

Hi Yummykiwi,

I think if you're exercising you may be getting muscle weight. And if you don't drink water, then you gain water weight because you retain water.

I go below my calorie range some days, but on average for the last 7 days it's about 1100. If I eat 1300 one day, I make it up and eat 900 the next day to meet the average. I believe that diet it's more important for losing faster than exercise. I exercise to tone some body parts and do cardio (15-20 min every day) because it keeps the metabolism going, but the bottom line is that if you don't eat clean you don't lose fat, no matter how much you exercise.

I always measure myself, because there were times that I wasn't losing any weight, but I was losing inches. That's how I know it's working.

Good luck!!!

Hi everyone! Finally found a forum that fits my goal. I'm also 5' and trying to get down to 100 lbs or less. I was at my perfect weight 2 years ago, but recently I've been putting on some weight. I can't seem to understand why since I'm getting more exercise than before. People have been telling me that I'm not eating enough calories which may be the reason for the weight gain.

Just wondering what everyone's daily calorie range is? Are you able to meet the range or do you sometimes eat less?

Thanks for sharing.

You don't necessarily have to lower your cals. That range might work for you - it doesn't really work well for me. Everyone is different! Good luck - you can totally do this!

Thanks for your advice!!! I can identify how you could feel happy being skinny. I love that feeling too. I´m within 1200-1500 calorie range. I guess I will have to go down in calories as my weigth comes off....and wait patiently. It helps me a lot knowing that you did it!! Thanks!!

Honestly, diet is what truly helped me. I actually set my own limits lower than what Spark gave me.. I had been eating no more than 1200 calories but I have since increased that to 1300 and it's easier for me. I eat what I want, just making sure I stay in my ranges. If I want Aunt Jemima pancakes for breakfast, I eat them because I have learned how to fit things into my plan for the day. I've been successful because I saw results and I loved the results I was seeing. Being skinny makes me happy, but don't get me wrong - I do cheat sometimes because food is just so yummy!

Congratulations and good luck!!! You inspire me!! Do you think the diet contributed more to your loss or was it exercise? Please give me advice on being so persistent.

If I´m down to 90 lbs and do not look thin enough, then I´ll see.... What my ultimate goal is having a very low body fat percentage, so I look lean. I had a friend at 4'11" and weight 80 lbs and had no fat.

I saw your sparkpage. That is actually your belly!!! Good job!!!! I will be happy looking like you!!

Hi Tina,
That´s right. I want to keep eating healthy food, mostly fruits and vegetables. It's been 3 days and I´m ok, if I don´t comply 100%. Yesterday, I went to eat Japanese for dinner with my husband and I don´t feel guilty. I´m not on a diet, but just trying to eat more healthy each day. Make the right choices each meal. I didn´t start exercinsing yet, but I will soon. Thanks for your words.

Hi Joonmaria, you are right about having a small body frame. My daughter who is 18yrs. old has your same type frame, she is 5ft. and weighs about 108lbs. and wears between a 0-2 and she doesn't look skinny and is keeping her weight down by doing her best by eating healthy.

The smallest I have ever been (when I was in my teens) was a size 5 at 108lbs.. That's why at my age after having my 3 children, I would probably look sickly. Let's keep encouraging one another to eat healthy whole living foods as a permanent way of eating. Of course, exercise, too. I've got chronic back problems, so I need to be careful.

I was 85 pounds in High School and looked fine. I may shoot for around 90 when I get closer. I was down to 76 pounds after one hospital stay and I did not look good. I do a lot more weight training now though, so I will just have to see. A healthy diet is always a good place to start. Best of luck to you! Leah

Hi ttaylorbear,

I´m glad I found someone who has a goal weight close to mine. I think if you keep eating more fruits and vegetables instead of processed foods, then you will definitely lose weight. Good luck!!

Hi bikinibody,

My mom weighed 80 lbs at one point when she was 37 and she looked skinny. I think 90 lbs for my frame is perfect. I think for petite people is harder to lose weight because you have to eat less than other people to lose something. I remember going on a diet and the only way that I could lose the last pounds was eating 900 calories a day, otherwise, I wouldn´t lose anything. Even eating 1200 calories a day, would not make me lose a pound. However, now I just want to focus on eating more vegetable and fruits than counting calories. Think more about eating the right things.... Good luck to you.

Hi Tina,

I'm 36 with 2 kids. I weighed 92 lbs at 5' 0" when I was finishing college and had muscle tone. And I didn´t look anorexic. People told me that I was normal, not skinny. I have a friend, who is 4' 11" and weighs 80 lbs and she looks skinny. I don´t want to look skinny, just thin. I wear size 4, but at my height I should be a size 0 or 2. I have a small frame, but my weight is mostly fat, I definitely feel self conscious in a bikini. I would like to be thin like I used to.

Well girls, I'm probably a lot older than most of you (48 yrs. w/3 adult children) and at 5" 1' it would be quite difficult to weigh or be healthy at less than a hundred pounds. As you can see my goal is to get down to 121 lbs., but it would be nice to get down to at least 115 lbs..

Cutting down on sugar and breads does help in our weight loss.

Thanks for answering. I am trying to lose by eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting on desserts. I have been up and down in my weight for years and I haven´t lost my baby weight yet. I hope sparkpeople can help me do that. I´m tired of always being near my goal weight and then going back up. I always do that.....I´m hopeful this will work for reaching and maintaining...

Maybe eventually, but I can't think that far ahead right now. Ideally I would like to be around 95, but I know that that's a HUGE goal and it's too overwhelming for me to think about.
