Hello, my name is Tammy. I'm from Delaware and I weigh 338 . I have many health problems including sleep apnea. I want and need to lose this weight that I have been carrying around for most of my life. I will admit that I eat when I am emotional and bored. I just need to learn to stay out of the kitchen. I also would like to have a buddy for motivation.

Helen, welcome. It sounds like you have a lot "on your plate" and a tremendous amount of stress. It's great that you are here to find good ways to take care of yourself and your health going forward.

I had strep that resulted in my having my tonsils removed when I was in my 30's, so I know how extremely painful that is. You have recovered from it now, but I wanted to say that I get that.

Hi there! I'm Hellen. I'm back for round 2 on SP. I am at the biggest I have ever been. When I started this program last week I weighed in at 294. Wow, that's the first time I've said that in public. I have a 2 year old daughter and I am heavier now than even when I was pregnant.

I know how I got here. I'm an emotional eater. My daughter was born in December of 2013. My husband left in September of 2014. Our nasty divorce was finalized in June 2015. I was working for a doctors office and with the stress of the divorce and becoming a single parent (he doesn't want anything to do with our daughter and doesn't pay his support) I ended up with Influenza twice and strep throat 3 times in a 6 month period. I had surgery to have my tonsils taken out in April, 2015. It all seems so petty, compared to the health issues I have seen others posting about on here.

I know it's going to be a slow process, but I'm so thankful I found this site again and the amazing people on here to help push me along!

Hi Everyone
Joined SP quite a few years ago. Lost some weight then using as much of the spark-people tools that I could manage. Since then I have regained weight about 3 times and lost it again. Have not returned to my heaviest weight but am not happy with my current weight due to its threat to my health and wellness - (blood pressure, diabetes threat etc). Weight loss for health and lifestyle change is better motivation than vanity reasons.
Anyway I am attracted to this team as it is active and positive. Quite a few of the teams I joined some years ago and now inactive.
I think I finally accept that tracking my food, keeping active and being mindful is a design for living that suits me. I used to think it was a temporary hardship until weight is lost.

Hi, I'm Deb. I have been on (and off!) Sparkpeople since 2010. I obviously need to stay, since my weight has gone to places it has never gone before. I have come to the conclusion that I need to track my food, at least for the forseeable future. I am tired of being a yoyo. I've already been told there is a complete knee replacement in my future, so I'd like to be in a better place health-wise before that becomes a necessity. Looking forward to joint Spark-ventures!

I am thankful to have found this group!!! I found it through MARILYNS67's SparkPage.
My name is Debra and I started out SP almost one year ago.

A little history:
~ I was injured while doing my job in the western North Dakota oil fields, in September 2013, I weighted around 230 lbs at that time.
~ I was taken out of work in July 2014 and finally had surgery in September 2014.
~ After surgery, my weight gain blew up to 257 lbs
~ In January 10, 2015, I decided I needed to get back down, at least to my pre-injury weight while healing was still a very slow process.

WooHoo, I am proud to announce that on January 8, 2015 (just 2 days shy of one year) I had lost exactly 20 lbs. Today, I am at 234.4, so I have 4 more to go to hit my first big milestone weight of 230 lbs. For the last 5 weeks, I have actually done the best, because I am now doing a Biggest Loser Challenge as part of the Tangerine Team, thus my profile picture. We have 5 more weeks to go, it was a 10 week challenge.

I know I can do it!!!!! I am totally thankful for my friends on SP who have stuck with me and encouraged me when I really wanted to give up and quit.

Thanks you for creating this wonderful team!!!

I recommend YOU ON A DIET as far as a book- a life changer. And my first thing I changed was drinking organic milk instead of regular milk and lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks! I'm a huge milk drinker though and apparently VERY SENSITIVE to the growth hormones they give the cows.

May I ask what type of lifestyle change did the trick for you at first? Do you recommend any books?

Hi , My name is Sunny. I am 65, relocated to Mesa AZ in March 2015. I am married, have 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren. I am on Day 2 of not smoking. I recommitted to the Sparks program on Sept 3, 2015.

I have been overweight for ever. I have tried many "diet" programs, and have spent a fortune to lose 8 lbs in a year. I am an emotional eater and a bona fide member of the clean plate club. My family, mother, grandmother and aunts have always been exceptionally overweight. I just thought it was my destiny and accepted that as I age I would broaden. I know now I don't have to do that. I do lose weight slowly, and I am ok with that, as it isn't the end destination, but the journey that will get me there.

My Dr. said the most important thing I could do to improve my health was to quit smoking, but it wasn't until I had some success thanks to Spark People, that I felt prepared to start that program. And like weight loss, I have tried may ways to quit but always returned to the habit. I know now it is one day at a time, and like my new lifestyle, if I avoid buying the cigarettes, then they won't be available.

I started seeing a registered dietician at the hospital. She was surprised when I told her I wasn't looking for bariatric surgery. I just needed help with getting started.
She recommended at book on habits, and as I read it, I realized that I couldn't change anything about me, until I started the process of changing my habits. I was dismal at logging my food, so
I joined a team and now I am in the habit of logging what I eat. I also plan my meals on the tracker, and then print the grocery list. I am able to have my groceries delivered, so I started doing that, just so I wasn't tempted ( or the bad things just jumped into my grocery cart).

So I have built a month on just for TODAYS. I am eating much more than I ever have, but it is healthier! I am cooking more and enjoying doing recipe makeovers. I try to do at least one makeover each day M-F.

I had a heart attack in 2011, and try to keep my sodium intake at less than 1500mg per day. This isn't always easy. I have found that my cooking most of the time helps tremendously. So if I do go out and go over my allowances, it is ok, because I have good habits in place, so I don't derail if I have an occasional lapse.

I also have my physical ailments, like most. I suffer with Fibromyalgia, lower back stenosis, arthritis. My goal weight is 150, which means I will lose 134#'s. Since I can barely lift 20#, I know that the best gift I can give this body is less to carry around. That could explain part of my continual tiredness! I utilize physical therapy and now I am building habit to strengthen. I like to call it Functional Fitness. I can finally walk ( most of the time) without a walker. I was over joyed the first time I walked down to the community center ( a whole 1/4 mile). But for me it was like winning a 10K race!

My mantra: Make 1 healthy choice, them make another. I use the daily notes on the food tracker to notate food swaps, daily successes. So it has become my little journal. Now that I have been doing it for over a month, it is interesting to go back and see the past and how far I have come.

MAKE ONE HEALTH CHOICE, THEN MAKE ANOTHER.

It doesn't matter how Slowly you go, as long as you no not Stop!
"Nothing in the World Can Make Me Overeat"
1. Eat Real Food
2, Do it because I love myself
3. Make one healthy choice, then make another.
4.Think Positively, Exercise Daily, Hydrate Often, Love Your Body, Sleep Lots,Eat Healthy, Work Hard, Stay Strong, Worry Less, Dance More, Love Often and Be Happy and repeat for Life.
5. Just Keep Going.

Hi, my name is Tammy,I have about 175 pounds to lose. I have been obese since my teenage years. I have told myself enough is enough, I am tired of being heavy or obese. I want to look normal. I also have hypothyroidism and many other medical conditions, I want to get rid of my cpap machine but do it the healthy way by losing the weight and not having sleep apnea. I also have depression and I hope I win this war between my weight and myself .

Take it one baby step at a time.

Hi Newbies! I also have hypothyroidism and a plethora of metabolic mess ups like diabetes, pcos and so on. So feel free to chat in the chat room or vent in the venting room. Guaranteed that almost no matter what you have, somebody here has it too. We have people with RA, MS, bad discs, degenerative disease, depression, bipolar, fibromyalgia... just to name a few.
Sometimes it feels good just to talk to someone who gets how hard it is to lose weight and get healthy with these conditions!

Hi. I'm Bijou and my husband and I are owned by two naughty dogs. I first joined Spark People back in 2008 and have been a member off and on since then. I fully understand how everything on Spark People works, thanks. I'm here looking for commiseration, motivation and encouragement.

Last summer, I jumped on the Weight Watchers bandwagon and lost about 30 pounds in three months time. Then, when we had an out of town guest visit for a while, I got a bit off track. That snowballed and I ended up completely giving up. Over the course of the next year, I gained back the 30 pounds, plus 5 of their ugly friends.

In a little more than 10 months, my husband and I are planning on making a move from one corner of the country to the other. The thing is, when we make our move, I want to be a healthier version of me. I want to be able to enjoy everything that our new home has to offer and I want to be a participant in life rather than a spectator.

I have a massive amount of weight to lose so I know that this has to be about a lifestyle change. I also know full well that if I focus on that one big goal that is way off in the distance, it would be too overwhelming. For that reason, I am setting my big goals 50 pounds at a time then breaking that down into smaller increments for my smaller goals.

One day at a time, one pound at a time, I am worth it and I can do it if I say I can.

I'm Casey! I'm in Clark County Indiana. I am struggling to take off some pounds and I'm actually loving every minute of it. I have been so focused on everyone else in my life for so long and now I'm taking back my life. I can control this, I can do this... well, let me rephrase... I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHICH STRENGTHENETH ME! (Phil 4:13). I am excited and always looking for people to work out with. If anyone else is in Clark or Floyd and wants to get together, shoot me a message on my sparkpage! Would LOVE to meet some new people. Right now a friend/classmate of mine and I get together when we can, but she's not always available. I workout alone most days and while I love the solidarity to a point, I really really love company too!

Michele,

Welcome to the Team. I just joined recently, too. And like you I have let some weight I dropped creep back on again. I feel we are both lucky to have found this team. It is truly an inspiration to have Team Leaders likes the ones here.

Good luck with your weight-loss and getting back out and enjoying life again.

Regards,

Mary

Hi everyone,

I'm Michele. And I'm tired of sitting at home while everyone is out living. So I'm here doing something about it. :) I'm doing what Beth said in her article I read this morning (thank you for inspiring me SO much Beth), and treat this like I would a college class and learn everything I can. And then put it all in practice.

I lost 97 lbs a few years ago with WW and by far the thing that helped the most was the community of support. Unfortunately I went back to my old habits and regained 60 lbs. But here I am, ready to halt the damage and get out of this rut I'm in again. I'm trying hard to feel hopeful instead of a failure.

Looking forward to getting to know you all and being a part of the success.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to Team~Indygirl, but I have been a member of SparkPeople since 2009. I am making a new start on SparkPeople and aim to lose 50 pounds over the next 52 weeks. My starting weight for my one-year Challenge is 250.

My highest weight was about 15 years ago when I weighed 298. That was when I decide I did not want to reach 300 and started on my downward journey. I would lose some weight and hold that weight a while before some of it started creeping back on. Then I would do another round of weight loss, hold it for a while, and put some back on. And so it has gone.

I will be retiring at the end of 2016. My goal is to enter retirement as healthy and fit as possible, and to enjoy the benefits of weight loss and exercise along the way.

Thank you for this team and for having me here with you. I look forward to getting to know you all over the weeks ahead.

Best regards,

Mary emoticon

Hi Everyone,

I'm Beth and I lost over 200 pounds with SparkPeople and if I can do it, I know you can. I am disabled and have many issues. If you read my page, it explains everything. But I went from looking at what I can't do to focusing on what I can, no matter how small. Those small things led to bigger things and a new life.

Keep putting one foot in front of the other and never give up. You got this.

HI, I am Summer. I am recovering from a car accident and trying to lose weight. I had lost about 40 pounds when I was stuck at the nursing home/rehab center post the accident but once I got home I managed to gain most of it back due to having to eat out while I got well enough to cook.

I am starting to cook again and feeling better. The big help is I found a personal trainer who has contact with a chef so I can order (pretty cheap) most of my meals for the week and have them in the fridge. So having healthy food on hand rather than 3 meals a day at the drive through or pizza/Chinese delivery is helping.

I have 130 pounds to lose. I want to lose it slow so I don't end up with lose skin or issues.

Motivation follows action

Hi everyone! I'm Sarah, and I've been off and on Spark for years now, but I'm hoping this time it really sticks! I live in Ottawa, Canada's capital city, with a very supportive husband and a dog who is very supportive, at least when it comes to going for walks!! I have somewhere around 125 lbs to lose and I'm cautiously optimistic that it is possible. Beth is SUCH an inspiration to me, and has been since the first time I joined Spark!

It's not about being better than someone else, it's about being better than you used to be.

Hi Holly! I'm Anna and I can definitely relate to how you are feeling, and I actually have a little more to lose than you. I would love to be spark buddies and be here to give you a virtual hand in the support department. I am going to send you a message.

Official Post- Hello Everyone, my name is Anna and I have 219 lbs to lose, maybe more since I'm 5"2' I figure I'll see how it is when I get down there. I am looking for friends, positive influences and inspirational people to share this journey with and hopefully talk with and become friends. I will try to be as active as I can and check in at least a few times a week. Feel free to send me a message and add me as a friend :)

Hi everyone! I'm Holly. I have about 200 lbs to lose. I'm at the highest weight I've ever been (around 370) and my depression has really gotten worse because of it. I've had increased health issues as well - pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, edema in my leg, asthma. I've really become a homebody and avoid crowds, large or small. I don't really have any sort of support system. No one gets that this is a struggle for me. If it was easy, I wouldn't be where I'm at. I could really use some buddies and accountability partners.

Hi, I have also have been off Spark People for a few years. I did lose some weight but now am struggling to keep it off. Also, I still need to lose over 100 pounds. Back here to try and get some of the encouragement I need to keep going. Tonight I plan on going back to my local gym and signing up again. Then do some swimming.

Hey everybody!

I'm Amy. I'm 41, a full-time student and homeschooling mom to an 11 and 13 year old, with two older kids and two fantastic grandkids. :)

I've been on SparkPeople for a while, and lost 30 pounds a couple of years ago. I managed to keep most of that off, which is great, but I kind of stalled out for quite a while. I've been back on track for a while, and I'm down a little over 50 pounds from my highest weight, coming up on 30 pounds down for this year, but I've got a long way to go, about another 100-120 pounds.

Anyway, I joined the team because I've long been inspired by Beth's story, and I was happy to see an active team.

I've been on SparkPeople for 75 days now (and I was on a few years ago, too, under a different user name). I am doing pretty well with my nutrition, but could use a little encouragement on my fitness. You can check out my page for more info... I need to get off the computer now and go to bed! (I'm working on my sleep, too). I can also be a pretty good encourager myself.

Loving reading this thread with all of the intros I can relate to!

I see several people say it's their "last chance" to lose weight.. I just wanted to encourage you and say it is NEVER a last chance until the day you die.. each day is a new day and an opportunity to give it another go!!

Be encouraged! WE CAN DO THIS! emoticon

Hi, I知 Abby, I joined Sparks last month. I have lost weight before but gained some back. I can no longer do this as I知 66 and live with constant AFib, and each passing year it gets harder to lose weight. I am determined to make the change permanent this time. My husband doesn't need to lose any weight but has pre-diabetes so we both need to watch sugar and refined carbs. I pray that all struggling with weight problems will be successful. I live in northeastern Washington, just 30 miles south of the Canadian border. Away from all the traffic and noise of the big city. The nearest freeway is about 90 miles away. I used to be a big city girl, but now I知 just an old country gal and I love it.

Hello, my name is Diana. I weight 236 as of today, down from 248. I am 5'2" and have fought the fight for years now. I used to yoyo, but now I am constantly up......wow. I have decided it is my last chance to get myself healthier so I might live longer. I am 63 years old and retired from a government job, and now am a retired sub-teacher, which I love. I joined Light Weigh One King a month ago and trying this form of eating, since I finally learned portion control really does have an impact! I love to walk and was doing very well, until broke my right foot this week and now laid up for 4 to 6 weeks so I am looking for exercises I can do that isn't about walking. Any ideas? I love God, people and animals. I have a little dog named Jack, 2 horses, which I never ride now because of my weight and unhealthy ways. My wonderful hubby would love to see me lose weight and get back to my old happy self. Well I am happy whether I am skinny or overweight......why not......you only have one life. Anyway, I am back on SparkPeople and will do my best. Thank you for letting me join here.

Hello... I'm a 48 year old who needs to lose 100 pounds and heal a fatty liver. I joined Spark 5 years ago to lose some weight before my wedding, and I was successful in losing 36 pounds. Unfortunately I lost my focus and regained the weight plus another 20 pounds. I am hoping the support from SparkTeams will keep me motivated to reach my goal.

Hi y'all. I'm Denise. I live in Texas (obviously!) and am 52 years old. I'm also a diabetic (LADA originally misdiagnosed in 2000 as a Type 2) and have used an insulin pump for several years. Ahhh, the pump makes it so much easier to control blood sugar but also makes overeating way too easy and my weight shows it!

Back in November I found and dusted off my Fitbit Flex and have been using it faithfully to keep track of my activity. About a week or so ago I bought a Fitbit Charge HR which I love even more!

I recently won a health makeover from Diabetes Daily and have two professionals coaching me. One is a CDE (but is unlike any CDE I've ever known!) and the other is a Health Coach. They're helping me so much with insulin, exercise, diet and more and I feel so fortunate to have this opportunity. I've lost a few pounds but more importantly I feel great and have increased my activity a lot!

I join Fitbit challenges daily and those help to keep me motivated but I need buddies on SP, also. I'd love to get to know some of you and hopefully learn from you!

Thanks,

Denise

Hello I am Ella and I have been on off and on for the last 6 month. The holidays where not kind to me. I am 45 and I need to loss weight for me and my health. I also want to be around for my kids too. I need to show them that I can do this to be healthy and they can too. I do not do will sometimes because I do not have a lot of support at home and I hope that I can find some here. I know I can do this because I have proved to myself before that I can do this.

Hi Neeta...glad you are here! It is a great place to vent and get support! We all need that at times, it can only help. I too was diagnosed hypothyroid and the scale has not gone in the right direction in over 2 years. I have always joked that I am allergic to exercise, but the cold hard truth is that we all know the weight won't go anywhere without it. Now just to find the motivation to do it..........

Hi, I'm Neeta. I've been around on and off for a bunch of times with little to no success. I keep losing and finding the same 20 pounds the last 5 years. I admit...I cannot do this alone. I need a buddy, someone to help keep me accountable. Patience is not my friend. I am hoping to find support, encouragement and motivation and lose this weight for good! I do not have accountability at home. My husband is over 400 pounds and my oldest daughter (23) is over 300. I have to make changes for my youngest daughter who is 9. She is beginning to mimick their mindset on food and exercise. I feel like I am always the "downer" because I say NO we aren't getting ice cream, No we aren't eating two combo meals each. Sounds ridiculous, but it is the cold hard facts. I also have hypothyroidism and struggle to lose weight without exercise. So I have got to be a good example for her on this front as well! emoticon So, I am glad to be here.

T.G.I.F.
Thank God I'm Forgiven!

Hi Everyone! emoticon

My name is Trina and I'm 27. I've struggled with my weight for a good part of my life. I am also known as a serial dieter. All that changed though this past August (the 30th) when I decided that this was going to be the "real deal time". This marked the day that I was going to get healthy and change my life for good. So far, it's been a day to day struggle but I'm determined to stay positive and keep the momentum flowing. Anywho, I'm glad to have joined the team and I have faith that we will all reach our goals!!

HUGS,
Trina

Hi I'm Debra - life gets so busy and it seems so much easier to just grab something without thinking about it much.
My husband has some major health issues so it's way past time to get healthy. At 58 the body isn't so forgiving.
so I'm here and learning - signed up a long while ago but never posted much. Was hanging out at another site the last couple of years but needed a change since I'm up to all time high weight so I'm back and just wowed by all the hard work the members here have done!

I'm Gloria and I have re:joined this team, used to belong to it quite a while ago. I miss all the good advice and tips. Beth is awesome!

I may not join much on the threads, I find it difficult to keep up to everyone/everything, but I'm here on the team!

I've had lots of health problems this past year and can no longer walk like I used to, I have to use a cane and in some instances, my walker. But I never give up, I'll always be trying and working on getting better health and in better shape. I'll be 80 next year and believe me, I wish I had taken better care of my body years ago!!
