AppleAnnieŚ Welcome. Debbie is right, IndyGirl Beth is SUCH a mentor and power of example, as well as a cheerleader. You should go to her SparkPage and read her story and her blogs, even older ones, to see how she lost over 200 lbs. with just eating and moving, no surgery, pills, liquid diets, mail order food, nothing but healthy food and movement, day by day. It can be done, striving to be healthier.

The best thing is to make small changes that you can stick with. Start with eating 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day, or drinking at least 8 glasses of water and start replacing soda if you drink it. Start with a little movement each day and build on it, but do a little at least 5 or 6 days a week. Find recipes on SparkPeople and try new healthy meals that you like. Keep adding on.

APPLEANNIE ..... Welcome to the team and I am so very glad you are here. Read up on INDYGIRLs page and her posts. She had some of the same issues when she began her battle in healthy living. It's so very difficult to get started and I have tripped so many times during my own struggles. Get active on the team. Post n the daily posts and check all the other pages INDYGIRL has started for fun and knowledge. There are so many individuals on this team that are amazing people and so very encouraging. We all have a story to tell and good advice to give.

Hi My name is Ann and I have been on Spark a long time ago, and lost weight but gave up after awhile. Now, I am back with so much weight to lose and improve many health issues too. I can't even exercise and I use a chair with wheels to get around in the house right now. So I am in a bad place. I have a 19-year-old son in a special education school with multiple challenges, so I can appreciate how hard you work to take care of your DD, SS and students. You can take care of you too at the same time. Beth (IndyGirl) is an amazing role model and mentor.

Hi my name is Melanie. I'm the mother of a 19 year old daughter and a 30 year old stepson. I work in a high school special education classroom where the children have various disabilities. Spark people has taught me that changing your lifestyle helps keep the weight off instead of just dieting. I've been trying by myself for years with no progress to show for it. My name is Janel and I just finished reading Indygirl's bio and I am totally blown away. My Lord the woman lost over two hundred pounds and looks amazing. What an accomplishment. She did it naturally to boot. Are you kidding me? I was just talking to my husband the other day about getting gastric bypass surgery because I am trying to lose about sixty pounds! Not doing it now boy. I am totally going to do it naturally. I dont even have any health problems so exercising hasnt been a problem for me. I am just excited to be a part of this team and get to know Indygirl better and the new team members. Happy New Year 2017!

I'm looking forward to being part of this group and dropping some of these pounds. My health is going downhill fast but I'm making changes to get it together. My long term goal is to lose 159 pounds but I'm focusing on short term goals of ten pounds to start. I hope this helps me but also that I might be able to help others.

I have over 100 lbs to lose now at about 240. I have taken off 50 lbs on my own but really feel like I need some community to check in with and see advice and challenges that others have and overcome losing 100 lbs or more.

Very inspiring and supportive. I am hoping that posting and reading what others post will help keep me on track. This is a long journey and I personally can only take this ONE DAY AT A TIME! Any further ahead than that and I just would get overwhelmed so I will just focus on today and check in as often as possible.

I'm back on SP and tracking my calories and fitness. Hubby and I just signed up at our local rec center. I'm pretty shy, so going to the gym is hard for me. But I plan to workout this winter and also get back to hiking as well. IndyGirl has always been an inspiration. I used to live in Indy, but now I work and travel across the US. I want my fitness level to match my nomadic life, so I don't miss out on adventures!

Hello I am Cara. New to posting but not sparks people. I started 2 years ago weighing 513 lbs. (I joined sp 5 years ago) I lost 140lbs then I got of track and gained 30+back. I started back Thursday weighing 394. My goal is to lose 227. Lbs more ( 353 lbs total). My weight today is 387.

Welcome Nancy! This is an active and supportive team.
I feel your pain... besides RA, I have severe OA Arthritis with bone spurs in my right foot. I have a lot of pain in my right foot and ankle.

Can you get in water to exercise? That takes the weight off your feet. Even walking in 3' water is good, you don't have to swim or jump. Also SP has lots of videos for folks with limited mobility.

Best wishes on your vegetarian diet. I would just suggest trying to get plenty of vegetarian protein, especially as you lose weight, so you lose fat and maintain muscle.

Hi - my name is Nancy, I just joined this team - been a part of Spark for quite some time but I'm changing things up a bit and can use some motivation and advice from people who have lost a lot of weight without going the surgery route or drastic exercise - hate the gym quite honestly, and due to foot issues I've been somewhat limited but hoping to get back to exercise walking soon. I would be thrilled to lose at least 50 lbs but ideally according to the medical community I should be about 100 lbs lighter. Heck, at this point, I'll take 10 lbs off and do a happy dance! Recently became vegetarian and have just started to seriously work on giving up sugar / junk food.

Howdy! I'm Sock, been with SparkPeople for a while and am working again on getting healthy after a few yo-yo attempts. While using the trackers here on Spark, I'm also involved with a weight management program at the medical school here in Denver which has been very helpful for me. I'm not super active on Spark at the moment, other than using the food/exercise trackers, but will be following this group. Looks like a nice bunch of people. I've been following Indygirl for a while now and know she's a keeper.

Hi Everyone. I'm Vicki, and I'm working on being healthier, if not thinner. I have a good bit of weight to lose but I'm trying to focus more on the over all well being and not just the numbers on the scale.

Hi my name is Johnna and I am 52 years old. I just joined SparkPeople 4 days ago and I'm so encouraged by the support and wealth of information that is here. I've been overweight for most of my life and also have clinical depression which doesn't help. Years ago I use to walk everywhere and I loved it but now because of all the weight I am carrying walking has been difficult. With the help of my niece and sister and the challenges on this site I have managed to walk for 10 mins the past 3 days and today I walked even longer. Though I have to admit I had to keep stopping, catch my breath and then walk on but I did it. Anyway I'm glad I found this team.

good evening Well my terrible day is over with out much lingering problems praise the Lord My mower didn't charge because the breaker was off Mower charged and the grass mowed Computer is now working fine I lose 3 # of the 4# I gained last week Next week will be the real test to see if I get of the see saw I usually gain the next week working hard not to do that I will pay more attention to what I am doing
Janet I will pray for you and your family ONe of my favorite verses that I cling to when I am need of the Lord is Isiash 41:10
Karen I am on Thyroid medicine For me to eat healthier I make out a menu for the week It helps with shopping and I don't have to wonder what I am going to eat I can change it around if I want to but at least there is a base to work Hope this will help you
