Good evening. My name is Bob (in real life) and I am an addict. I am addicted to reading, averaging 360 + books/year. I have a natural ability to read very quickly (measured at 600+ WPM with 80% retention) which makes what I do a possibility. As you may have guessed by my icon, I am one of the required 99 male members of Spark. I am semi-active on the Sarcastics team, a couple of political teams and am occasionally active on a few more teams.
I am a kind, empathetic person, but I know that women define "kind and empathetic" differently than do men, so please make allowances for me.
I know "Woman Speak" well enough to recognize it if forewarned, but "knowing" it and actually being able to understand and use it takes great deal of effort. I am the Gordian Knot's Alexander.
Many woman look at me after finding out I have been happily married only once (43 years) to the same woman (still am) and feel that I may not be just the usual guy.
I'm not. I don't claim to be better, just ..... different.
I read adventure in any genre, as well as mystery. My favorite reading runs to action adventure, mystery psychology (Kellerman), historical fiction, science fiction, and fantasy.
I have been a member of Spark as long or longer than anyone. There are a few who have been members longer than I, but they can't prove it. They are stuck in this incarnation of Spark and we all have the same start date - when this format was adopted. I've also been here longer than some of the Spark Coaches have been employed. I was one of the six people who formed the "Dealing with Depression" team and was the team leader until it reached 25,000 members - then I had to get help to keep it going. I'm still a member of the team, but I have retired from my position of co team leader. It is now the largest team on Spark with more than a million team mates.
As a writer, I've always wanted (dreamed, fantasized) about being a writer, but have recently decided to actually try it. I sat down and started writing and in 2 days had 12,000+ words down. At that point, my "muse" decided to play tricks with me and every way the story seemed to go was stilted, artificial, and/or cheesy.
I joined this team with the intention of being stimulated and challenged by other team members. Before I could actually get to the introduction forum, my brain stuff started percolating and I just wrote another 6k words (3 chapters).
Members of other teams would tell you that I am prone to long posts (what better way to practice writing), but that I am sarcastic to the point of being funny, less knowledgeable of facts than I think, but I mean well.
For the other chapters in my life, you will have to wait ..... for the Rest of the Story"!
Nice to meet y'all.
