Hello everyone. Sorry i am so late to posting. I get very shy. my name is Jasmine and i live in whittier,ca. I am 19 yrs old and 4'10". I am starting my second year of college. In the past year i have gained 35+ pounds and because of my height it is very noticeable. Before joining SP i had lost 15lbs and gained 5 back. it was a rollercoaster for me constantly. Now that I have been with SP i have lost a total of 6lbs. and keeping it off. emoticon no more rollercoasters for me!!

Hi everyone -- here I am! My name is Barb, and I'm a 51 (for 2 more weeks!) year old married mom of 1 daughter. My husband and I own a farm and a heavy equipment business, and I work full time in the accounting field. It's been 2 weeks today, and I'm feeling good about everything. I joined SP a couple of years ago, but just started participating. An online search for a free food journal brought me back, and I'm so grateful. I know I would not be doing so well if I didn't have this website behind me. I'm learning to live with Type 2 Diabetes, something I should have done a long time age (diagnosed 9 years ago) Now that medicine is not controlling my blood sugar levels, I have to do it myself. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and feeding off each other!!!

Hello everyone. This to is not my first time on sparkpeople BUT it is my last time!!! Had a very rude awaking after having some medical major problems and the doctor ordered a seris of blood work of which one came back that i was PRE-DIABETES. A real eye opener!! So , the dr. said i must take my b/s 2 times a day, eat a high protein/low carb diet, and of course lose weight!! But that i would not be put on any meds till i bring everything back to her Aug.1,then she will see if my b/s are under control,i have lost weight and kept myself active (exercises) !! My thought went right to sparkepeople where i had received so much help in past.I am going to do this,WILL YOU BE THE TEAM TO HELP ME?? I am 61,married 43 years with two grown children and 3 grandchildren and one very loving bassett hound.Looking forward to getting to know all of you,stop by and visit my spark page anytime. Vickie

I'm Michelle, already 35lbs. lighter and looking to lose approx 30lbs.more ideally by November.

Day five for me. Tracking nutrition and exercise daily, and it feels good to do this. Yesterday I remembered at the end of the day some stuff I had eaten but had forgotten to write down after I had seen the report for the day. No problem. I just added these foods to my list for today. That keeps me accountable, out of the "don't sweat it" frame of mind (actually mindlessness) that got me where I am today. So, I'm learning.

Hello...

Like some others have posted, this is not my first time on SP either. I'm am making a fresh start and I hope it sticks this time. I am 29 and live in New Orleans, Louisiana with my husband and dog. I am a teacher and I am taking advantage of the time I have over summer to try to build some new habits.

I never really had a problem with my weight until about the last two years. I have gained about 50 pounds since January of 2009. It is very frustrating. I think my previous failures with losing the weight have been caused by expecting too much too quickly. If I didn't see progress in a week or two, I would stop putting in the effort. I figured that if it wasn't working, why bother? Well, that strategy of giving up after a week is not working!

That said, I chose a user name that would remind me that slow and steady progress makes big gains in the end. I am going to focus this time on habits and doing what I can each day, and hope that the end result works itself out!

Hello, My name is Alisa.
I started my weight loss journey last year in August, 2010. At that point I was at my heaviest (179lbs) and just finishing graduate school. At that point I wanted to loose weight for my wedding, which was this past June. With working with a trainer and going on a diet I ended up loosing 30 lbs by Feburary. At that point I graduated and got a job, which required me to move.

In moving and starting a job I have fell off the wagon. Lost all my good habits, and I ended up gaining but was able to maintain around 155 until my wedding in June. I still looked great, as I still was way below where I started at.

During my honeymoon, I went all out! I ate cake almost everyday, and stuffed myself with everything I liked. Afterwards I just haven't stated being good or exercising and am at 164.

Now I am starting to work out again. But the hardest thing to get back to is eating healthy. Eating healthy was the hardest thing for me before, and I know it will be now!
I'm hoping to find motivation to get to the gym, and to stay healthier with my food choices. I'm so glad I found this community, as it seems that this place offers all the tools you need. Plus a place where you can get support

Hi all!
My name is Jen and I am 31 years old, living in Oceanside, CA. I started at an all time high weight of 248 lbs in October. Over the last 8-9 months I've succeeded in lowering my weight to 207.6 lbs, but I need motivation to continue. My first goal is to get under 200 lbs by August. Eventually I want to see 149 lbs on the scale so that for once in my life I will be considered healthy on the BMI scale.

I haven't been that weight since I was 11 or 12, so I am not even sure if it is healthy for my body type, but I want to try to get as close as possible.

This isn't the first time I have joined Sparkpeople, but I want it to be the last and the most successful.

Hi, this is my second day on this sight and not sure what I'm doing around here yet, but I'm committed to this process. I want to lose at least 45 pounds. I went to the doctor yesterday and found I gained 20 over the last year. I really want to get off my blood pressure medicine or at least reduce the dosage if possible. I also want to get rid of my back pain which I'm sure my weight isn't helping. I'm only 48 so I have many good years ahead of me and want to be healthy for them. Hopefully being held accountable will make the difference this time.

Hi everybody,
A long loving look in the mirror at my naked body emerging from the shower made me realize that lack of focus was showing. Recently retired, I accomplished a lot that I wanted to do during the first six months, but now I think I've found another focus for the next six. In the past, I was a visitor at Spark People, but now I want to engage in its program for healthy living. Thanks for being here.I hope to draw on your experience of re-focusing. I've been to the gym twice this week, and this is my second day of tracking food, so, "one day at a time."

Hi Everyone,

My name is Chris, I had tried Spark before but it wasn't a time when I was fully committed to making a change in my life. I finally had a wake up call I decided I needed to lose weight last May. So I hired a trainer which was costly and it worked it was hard as hell and very restrictive. I couldn't afford to renew him so he threw me to the wolves with no maintenance for food or workouts I was worried I didn't want to go back. So I had a friend help me out with plans for workouts and again another restrictive diet which worked for another few months I dropped another 10 lbs. Then I was obsessing over food I was tired of eating almost nothing, and always wanting to just be normal. So I have decided to join a group where there are other people like me and people that can help me when I am having a bad day. I need to have someone to answer to other then myself as I am very hard on myself. I look in the mirror and am still not happy with what I see I want to lose at least another 10 lbs I want to have more muscle tone as well. I am going through alot of stress in life and that doesn't help a thing being an emotional eater, I have been good so far and not going back to the dark side I just want to make sure I can make it and have someone when I need it. I have my husband but it isn't the same as a group of other who know what I am talking about and know what I am going through. And if I can help someone along the way I am willing to do that too :)

Just sneaked into this team! I'm Laura, live in London but originally from Scotland. Over the last few years the weight has crept on. Last week I herniated a disc in my back and this has scared me because I don't want to end up with serious spinal issues. I also feel like fat and unfit is not who I am. My name is Lacey and I'm in the Navy. I'm slightly (~10 lbs) over my allowed weight limit, so I don't want to talk about how I'm trying to lose it (plus at least another 10) on facebook in case my leadership finds out (since you can't tell by looking at me), but I still want to someone to know what I'm doing so it will help keep me honest. My initial goals are to add an additional 10 minutes of working out of some kind each day and to make one smarter choice for food at each meal (i.e. water instead of soda, Subway instead of McDonalds,steamed rice instead of fried rice).

Hi all. I'm Babs from NYS. I'm getting close to the half century mark of my life and I'm hoping I can be healthier in my 50's than I have been in my 40's. I've put on so much weight in my 40's that I am now the size of two healthy people. I've always been heavy but never THIS heavy. A short time ago I had abdominal pain that took me to the ER and there I discovered my blood glucose was 500 so I was given insulin by IV to bring it down to a still too high 130....that was my wake up call. I can't do this anymore. I can't do it to me and I can't do it to the people I love. A candy bar and ice cream simply aren't worth it. So here I am...trusting that this time I will not just diet but will make the lifestyle changes...dietary and exercise...that will give me the energy and enthusiasm I need to show those I love....just how much I love them and how important they are to me.

Wow so much friends in our team. This is GREAT !!
I am Hannelie from South Africa. My Teenage daughter and I heard of SP by some friends, so we decide to check things out, and bove of us are amazed to see what a wonderfull site this is.
We have one question... Are the two sites (normal SP and Teenage SP) linked to each other so that I can add her as a friend on MY SP Page ?

Anyway we are both very exciting to start but still exploring alot of SP. I think next week we will be good at the basics..

Please every one is welcome to be my SP friends, it's going to be nice to meet all of you and walk the journey NOT alone..

Hi everyone! I have been part of Sparkpeople for a long time but haven't been on in a while and it really shows. I am basically starting over so I joined this team to have other people around me who are still in the same boat and I can get all the guidance and support that I need to not be in this position again! Looking for a buddy to hold me accountable (makes it harder to skip my workouts or sneak extra snacks). I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all and get healthy together!

I joined yesterday, but just now getting around to investigating the rest of the site. I used sparkpeople years ago, but there's so much more now! =D I really think I'll change my lifestyle this time!!

Hi, I'm a newbie and have been a weight watchers as well, i used to track on line and get weighted in at a meeting. I am looking forward to using this free site as I seldom stayed for a weight watcher meeting anymore and have paid them way too much money.
I have lost 100 lbs over the last 10 yrs but have 50 more to go. I go up and down with the first 25 of 50 always seem that I get off track and back it comes. I really want to do it for good. This program suggests one year. Wish me luck and I am looking forward to meeting some new friends,. emoticon

Welcome to all the other newbies, hope your first week is going ok. I used to use weight watchers online, but finding this site loads better and best of all it's free.

Hello everyone!

My name is Laura and I am from Minnesota. I am 31 years old, a single mom to an almost five year old and a first grade teacher. I am spending this summer at the lake with my son and my goal is to finally get myself into good physical shape. Well, that and a nice tan :) I just purchased the Zumba exercise DVDs and am hoping this will be the exercise ticket for me. My starting weight is 213 pounds and I'm hoping to be down to 195 by the time school starts again in September. I'm excited to got know you all more and would love to find some people to be my accountability partners. There are some great groups on here but it seems there are so many people in those groups and it's overwhelming to me. Have a great day!

Hello everyone! Yesterday (7/4) was my sign-up day and I'm completely overwhelmed by all the help on here! Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but I just have to remind myself to focus on a few aspects at a time...like the Nutrition & Fitness trackers. I signed up yesterday (the 4th) and hope that joining the people on this site will make this my Independence Day from excess weight and bad habits! I currently weigh double what I should and also am recovering from a medical crisis. As soon as I get my strength back, I plan to start going to the gym again. Even if I have to rest every 5 minutes or so, I will work at regaining my treadmill speed!

Looking forward to getting to know all of you...

Hi! My name is Taylor, I joined on July 3, 2011. I feel a little overwhelmed as I am sure everyone feels when they start - at least those with slow computers like mine.
