FIT_ARTIST,

I use coconut oil in the same ways you do and I have no problem fitting plenty of it into my diet. In the morning, I scramble my eggs in it or drizzle it on Ezekial bread. I like to add it to smoothies or drizzle it on a baked sweet potato (YUM!)

Just using it in place of butter and other oils gives you plenty of uses for it. It's so versatile, especially if you like the flavor of coconut. For me, it's always a treat.

Do it for you. Don't ever quit.
Run now. Die later.

You may enjoy the coconut butter off of a spoon over the oil.
I always put the oil in or on something. It is a bit much to just take straight. lol Some people melt it with a bit of honey.
I add it to smoothies, fry something in it or use it in baking.
Coconut butter will also work in baking depending on what you are doing with it.
I would use coconut butter on toast or in no-bake cookies or protein bars or in smoothies. I would use the coconut oil for frying with.

Artisana has some great recipes...

I have the same question about eating a tablespoon of oil. I bought some coconut oil today and have pretty much decided to do the same thing and put it in my morning smoothie. I will probably start with a teaspoon and work my way up. I would also appreciate any tips on how to eat pure oil. Thanks. emoticon

I am looking for Low Carb breakfast ideas. I usually eat oatmeal and friut in the morning. I do work out pretty intense in the morning before work so I need to eat something that will stick with me and last until lunch. I have started to pack snacks usually a fruit and protien to get me through until lunch. Anyway I want to reduce my carbs. I am trying to work the coconut oil into my diet. The last two days i have had 1 tbsp. in my smoothie for breakfast. I tried to eat a tablespoon of coconut oil last night before i went to bed and almost threw up. It didnt taste bad I think it was the texture or that i am not use to eating oil straight. Anyway any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also any ideas for use of Coconut Butter? I just bought a jar of this also. Do you use it in baking in place of butter, I know I have seen it used on toast etc.

Thanks for all the help.

Oh. Ok. Skim milk has more milk sugar in it. So it has a higher GI than 2% or whole milk. Perhaps that's why the pigs get so fat on it.
If you look at any dairy labels in the store, you will see that the SUGARS are higher on the low fat versions.
Hope this helps.

Well. I feel that we all eat far too much grain for one thing...
After doing a lot of research on raw milk, I have realized that it is pasteurized skim milk and grain that farmers feed the pigs to make them fat.
There is also a lot of research of the human body and the food that man has eaten for the last 200,000 years. Grain was only introduced 10,000 years ago. Since then, our bones have deteriorated, and modern day disease was born. Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, cavities, etc.
If we look at the obesity epidemic today and the Food Pyramid I feel it's fairly obvious where the problem lies.
Low fat snacks, skim milk and 6-8 servings of grain per day.
I think we can all live a lot better without (or at least a lot less) grain in our diets.
I could go on and on... but you get my drift.

I try to avoid grain, and even started doing the paleo diet. I found that to be a little bit difficult to abstain completely from grain. So, I will call myself a grain minimalist I guess. lol I still like carbs... so that's not it. Most days I don't eat any grain. Some days I may even have 1-2 servings. I just can't imagine eating it 6 times a day! Seems like a lot of pig food to me.

I find coconut water by the produce section more often then by the drinks in the middle isles.

I just noticed at the end of your post the skim milk + grains = obesity. Why are those so bad? Is it just the combination of the two?

Coconut water is very good for you, but for different reasons than coconut oil is good for you. Coconut water is a great sports drink that contains electrolytes. Way better than a gatorade!

Hello! I love pretty much anything with coconut in it so I decided to join this team. I do use coconut oil on occasion. After reading some of the posts, that amount will be increasing and I'm going to try coconut flour. I like cooking lite coconut milk with shrimp and/or soba noodles too. My newest love affair is with coconut water! It's soooo good! Is it also as good for you as other coconut products?

Coconut flour also contains oil. My flour is 25% fat, so.... not sure what that translates into. But you are getting coconut oil in the flour. Cool! I am loving coconut flour too. I have GOT to make some coconut shrimp over the next couple of days here...

What about coconut flour? I use that for most of my baked products in addition to coconut oil. Coconut milk (the regular kind, not the lite) is my new "dairy" too.

Hi

I am new to the team and very interested in including coconut oil in my diet. I have been using it externally - as my lotion - for several months [love it] and am quite interested in what it will do from the inside out. I am looking forward to giving it a try.

I just read about the recommended dosage, um how do you take it? I have seen some in pill form but most of it is solid and the fact that it is oil makes me wonder if it is hard to get it down. I guess I am asking how does it taste? Or do you just cook with it?

The recommended daily dosage of coconut oil is 31/2 tbsps. If you only eat 1-2 tbsps that is OK. You will still benefit.
If you are looking for ways to get in your daily amount of coconut oil per day, but want other sources other than coconut oil, you can also get it from other coconut products...

Daily Dose Comparison:

3 1/2 tbsps of coconut oil

7 oz fresh coconut meat (about 1/2 coconut)

2 3/4 cups dried, shredded coconut

10 oz of coconut milk
