Just found this team and thought it looked fun! I'm Amy, originally from PA, but now living in FL since December. My dh and I also have a motorhome, so will travel for part of each year. I am 55, retired early from teaching last year (second grade teacher for 30 years,) and am now trying to find what I want to do in this next part of my life (have fun but find ways to contribute!) I have been sparking for several years, but now I have more time to devote to it. I had lost and gained the same 20-30 pounds and now I am focused and determined to get to my goal weight! I look forward to getting to know some new SparkFriends here on this team!

Bear - I do believe in miracles and am so glad God has blessed you and you have shared your story. I was on medication for diabetes - pills - and with the diet and exercise and some weight loss I have been able to lower my A1c and go off of the medication.

Welcome to the team.

hello!

My nickname is bear in real life do feel free to just call me bear!

I am 57 years old, just had my birthday in february.
I have been a TOPS leader for most of the last 30-35 years(would have to look it up to be exact at how long) Some may ask, what is TOPS? Take Off Pounds Sensibly club.

I usually have a blog I call club chat on my blog page on wednesdays or thursdays. It just gives a bit pf a run down on things we discuss in the group, which sometimes helps others along the way as I have a few friends on spark people that enjoy hearing about our club time. I only mention names of people that dont mind being mentioned, and I sometimes share the replies with my club members if the people replying dont mind.

I find I get more and more challenges to overcome as I get older. I am legally blind BUT do not consider myself a disabled nor handicap person. I am also a full fledge diabetic, being on insulin and sometimes off of insulin, and with an overall goal to get permanently off insulin. I have also developed problems with my kidneys in the last couple years.

I have also had a heart attack I should never have survived according to my doctors, but I did! And the most interesting part of that story....I had the heart attack a week before my birthday, when I was 49. I was put on agressive experimental drugs because the doctors could not place more than one stent in my heart without me trying to die on the table on them. I never saw that surgeon again until last year (I was 56) After 7 years, He had lost my file (thanks to computers!) but remembered me, and the only thing he could find to prove that I had been so bad off...was the one stent that he had placed in my heart! All the other damages were gone with no scarring left behind!

I believe in Miracles! I believe that when I asked my pastor to pray for me in the hospital, God through him healed my heart. I believe this because when my pastor laid his hands on my head to pray, I felt an intense heat from his hands traverse my body. Sound phoney to you? That is your choice. I doubted it myself until my heart doctor told me there was no record of me ever being there, but that he did remember me. And when I saw the stunned expression on his face when hew could find none of the scarring, none of the damages, I believed, beyond a doubt, that God was saving me for something special.

You see, that was not the first miracle in my life. My first one was the day I was born! I was born blue. I had been pronounced dead, according to my mother. But when the nurse was walking me down to the morgue, she must have had sensitive hands as she felt me breathe so the story goes.

She took me back to the doctor and they gave me a full blood transfusion, and then I was a normal baby and given back to my mother.

Yup sorry I am long winded here.
I have been battling with weight all my life, my top weight was over 450 lbs.....that was as high as my scale would go. I lost over 200 pounds in the 80s and by the 90s I really started to struggle.

I was told I had neuropathy (from the diabetes) in my legs, and it started to get more and more painful to walk. I had the same doctor for ever it seemed, and this was what he believed. He finally retired and I got a new doctor. At that same time I had read an article that sounded more like me than the previous docs diagnosis of neuropathy...I asked my new doc about it.

She sent me to a doctor in the city and sure enough, my problem was finally correctly diagnosed! I have blockages in 4 places in my legs and require surgery. Not that I needed anything new in my health history, but it was a relief to know this could be fixed! I am currently waiting for the surgery date. I was told 3 year wait and it s been about 1 1/2 years now...so it s coming

So thats my long winded story!

On the lighter side, I started watercolor painting january 1, 2013. I paint most every day. Some pictures have sold for me, which was a pleasant surprise! But the biggest bonus of this hobby? It keeps me out of the fridge! Nor do I snack on other stuff when I paint! So it is my weight loss aid...they are also posted here and there through my blog

I am an open book...I have nothing to hide...if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask emoticon
Thanks for listening! take care God bless

I'm a 57 year old woman that has a total of 92 lbs to lose to reach a decent weight where I can possibly get off of blood pressure pills and also not hurt so much from RA of the spine. I've been told by my doctor that the less extra weight I'm carrying the less stress there will be on my joints. I don't expect to lose it fast. It took me 8 years to put on all the weight. My goal is to drop 2 lbs every month and keep it off til I reach my 92 lb goal.
I am married to Bob and he's just had to get a pacemaker/defibrullator in March, and is still adjusting to having a very weak heart (20% heart strength), so I tend to stress over his health a lot, and when I'm stressing out, I tend to eat more than I should. So I will be working on making healthier food choices over time.

Hello, I was on this team previously as CChef1, briefly left spark and rejoined with new user name and new outlook.

Love this team, especially the Question of the Day. It is such a fun way to start my mornings.

Hi, KW!

I finally made it back home and to the clubhouse. I've been doing just enough Sparking to get a few points and keep my perfect attendance so I haven't been in the threads too much lately.

However, I am back and beating new trails all over the place. Our cyber clubhouse and world is pretty unique. We have a mountain hiker, WendyWitkoski (WW) wo provides us with weekly picktures of her beautification project to our team. She goes hiking every weekend and it's usually in the mountains, but occasionally around the Sound and the Straights of Juan Defuca Washington (my home state). They are spectacular pictures and bring back so many memories for me so I use them to pain pictures (mind paint as I'm a novelist) and they just make our cyber clubhouse and world look beautiful and everyone loves it. Then there is CrazyWoman11 (CW) Leader of the team and the sweetest woman in the world. She gets us started everyday with a cuppa something and a sunny hello! The two of us kinda keep the team together like glue and bailing wire. We have a bunch of other team mates that come in everyday and keep us going, too. We love our team and we love to see others participate on a daily basis. Today, for example, the huddle is full of information and a little fun. CW and I like to get it going with food and beverage. It got started, as I remember, with a hot cup of cyder one cold frosty December day way back when and then it sort of spirled out of control and we started building a clubhouse with our huddles, then we put in mountains, lakes, streams, forests, a pool, a garden, trees with hammocks, chairs, a rubber ducky hit the pool one day, and so one. It gave us something to hang on to and we became pretty good friends. So don't be surprised by our antics. We just love each other and like to make each other laugh.

So with that, feel at home. If you want to add to our cyber clubhouse and world, feel free. There's always a bucket of paint and a brush that could use some help making it over the boards, and some nice hammocks that like to cuddle users with shaddy leaves in the trees above that like to keep the sun off us on hot days. If you get real quiet and comfortable, you might hear WW yodeling from the mountains above. I might be building a little rock dam in the creek so the water talks and laughs to us as it bubbles by and the rubber ducky likes to be pushed around in the pool occasionally, too.

We have lots of threads here, so jump in, poke around, and add as you feel the need. We love to learn about each other and we are always very considerate and kind and loving to all. Enjoy!

Hello! I found this team through GinnJen1974, looks like a great team and I am excited to join you all here! I've been a member of SP since 2009, but only really started to get involved in the community aspect of SP this summer. I have lived in the Midwest US for 15 years but I am still a New Englander at heart. (no connection to New Zealand).

Sorry, a little belated in saying thanks for the welcome. I really am enjoying this team and look forward to the question of the day, although often I don't get to until later in the day.

Woot!

Hi, CCHEF1! I see you've been dubed CC by CW! Hope you don't mind. There's just something about give our friends nicknames that seems to make them closer, which is why we like to give you a shortened version. We're just crazy here. You don't have to be crazy, but it sure does help. We are goofy and fun loving and firmly believe that it helps get us over, under, around, and through some of our frustrations,

I hope you really like this team as much as we do. Check out some of the threads. There is the QOTD thread where we ask some non-invasive question every day. Usually we try to get more than a yes or no question in there, but we do have at least one friend that likes to answer with only a yes or no and I think it's kind of fun to try to figure out ways of asking a question that forces more than yes or no. Its all our mind game. We do advise caution on the info you put on here. When SP first started out it was not a social site. People came here with all kinds of problems and formed teams to find others with like problems and then discuss them without worrying about who was snooping. Now it's a social site and everyone needs to be aware.

Check out the thread on the Team Challenge. It's more or less a game, but we are trying to make a game that evolves and is fun to participate in, but still challenges us to do something we've never done before, or to do something a little different in the hope of breaking through a road block on their journey.

CW has a POSITIVITY thread that helps us become more positive. If you participate on that thread everyday, you will slowly change your attitude from disbelief or negative to one of believing or positive.

So poke around and enjoy. We're glad you are here and welcome to the team!

Welcome CCHEF!...I hope you really enjoy the team...Floridaghost always paints such a great virtual picture of our little clubhouse.

We always abbreviate everyones name when talking...like I am CW...FloridaGhost is FG...so if its ok we'll call you CC.

Have a great time in our clubhouse!

Welcome to the QOTD team, Zacevetob!

CrazyWoman10 is a great leader and I sure like working with her on this team. We have a lot of fun coming up with silly but fun ideas for our small group. Please feel free to join in on any of the threads, the QOTD of the day is the hot one, but we are introducing a new one today, the Team Challenge and I hope you check it out. Right now it is a trial, so we need all the participation we can muster and then some feed back. We're trying to keep it simple and fun, and, yet achieve something besides fun from it. Please check it out and dive right in.

CW (CrazyWoman10) and I are usually first to the team as we really like being here. It's like our little family and we strive to be helpful and loving and encouraging. Our original leader is still with us and still enjoying our team and providing the great and loving, cheerful, encouragement she has always provided. You'll see us call her GJ (GinnJen1974) and we are very happy she is still here with us.

There are others that are usually here everyday, adding to the fun and interesting things and we so love them and appreciate them, too. We are really looking forward to you being with us.

Let us know if you have any questions or need any help, and adopt an attitude of NEVER EVER GIVE UP. Also remember that there is no one-diet-fits-all and your journey is unlike anyone else's. But we've all been down the trails and we are always willing to reach back and help you over, under, around, or through all of those obstacles that get in your way. Keep looking forward, but if you look back to see how far you've come, make it a quick look then face forward and keep going otherwise you'll trip over that next pothole in the road.

We can help you with the site and my crazy humor. But most of all, have fun with it and we all wish you SparklingSuccess in reaching all your goals and dreams, health, wealth, and happiness.

Carrie,
I can relate to what you wrote about losing weight and being uncomfortable with the attention of men. A lot of women would love that, but I was not one of them. I will need to learn that I can handle myself in any situation and keep myself safe. I understand. You're not alone in your feelings.

Thanks for the wonderful ideas and suggestions. I do not mind being a source of info but constantly commenting drives me crazy. I now just roll my eyes at a lady who comes up to me every so often at school. She calls me skinny. I am know I am no where close to being skinny. But also as I type this, I know others thoughts on my weight are different than mine. Hmm, another thing to work on, my image of my true self. :)

Carrie - you are absolutely right. It is a journey we are going to be taking for the rest of our lives. I am still having to train myself to realize that the way I was before is not the way I will be from here on in. I was lucky at the beginning of my new lifestyle, I had a mental picture I saw all the time. Me, at goal. No I was not a beauty queen or a top model - they are unrealistically too thin in the first place and it irritates me when I see them because I know some designer is trying to tell me that if I buy the clothes, I will look like the model. Right!

So I am also having to learn to deal with compliments and the first thing I learned was how to handle them on the spot. "Thank you" is all that is needed. But have a question you can drop into anyones lap to get them past the "adoring attitude" they may have. Apparently people are still looking for the easy way out of being overweight, constantly dieting, and even if they are on the right trail. It's a reality check. "Oh! Carrie! You look great! What are you doing? You lost weight! What diet are you on?" Your reply: "Thank you. Say did you get as much rain as we did last night? I think I woke up several times hearing it pour outside." Now they are thinking about something else, you are out of the uncomfortable zone. It takes awhile to have ready subjects to be able to ask and I've actually stood in front of the mirror and practiced this idea of Thank you and then asking a question totally off subject in order to put them on the spot or change the topic in a hurry and they don't realize what you just did.

If it's one of your friends that you see all the time and you know if she has children, or a pet, you can use that as a topic changer. How's Suesue? people love to talk about their families and pets. Eventually you will have to figure out how to get past the feelings of discomfort. Not everyone is giving an insincere complement. Someone who keeps coming back might have ulterior motives, though.

I don't go to class reunions any more. I went to the 10th and felt like I was the only one that had grown up. I kid you not, they were all wearing the same hair styles from 10 years prior, acting the same way, saying the same stuff. It was like being stuck in a time warp. I have 4 more years to the 50th. I might go, but I don't think I'm going to travel cross country to go see a bunch of people I don't even know any more. Even the school is long gone. I just don't need to go back and visit with a bunch of people that did anything and everything to make themselves feel on top of the heap, regardless of who they hurt in the process. Of course, If I lose all the weight I want int he next four years, I may go just to put my nose in the air for once, but I don't need that. I don't believe in one person being better than others. Everyone has value and worth. EVERYONE! When you feel like you don't it's just as bad as if you feel like you are better than everyone else. Everyone has faults and everyone has value. I don't see a scale on them to determine what their worth is.

Anyway, I hope you reach your goals and dreams and feel good about it soon. You can do it because you really want to. Sometimes fear gets in our way and we have to learn how to get past the fear, too. It's something I work on, too.

Have a Sparkling day!

So I live in NC but originally from a small farm town in Illinois. Married for 10 years now and have twin daughters who are 7 and in the 1st grade. I teach 7th grade science and well that is a craziness in itself.

My journey, well you could say I have been on it since the 1st grade. When I look at old photos I see a bit of a chubby girl but not overweight, just that baby fat hanging around. But then in the 1st grade I ballooned. I am shock to see my photos. not sure what really happened during those years of K-1 that caused it but something happened. My mom is an emotional eater and I think in many ways I picked that up from her to deal with what ever I was dealing with at that time. Recently, I was diagnosed with a disorder that causes you to be overweight. This occurred due to some health issues one of my daughters was having that came to realization that I was dealing with the adult side of her health problem. So some of the my weight gain as a kid may have spawned from that disorder.

So after all that rambling, I have been overwight/obese my entire life. Of course I have tried many fad diets and even dieticians. I have had two successes. One with LA Weightloss where I got down to the 170's and when I first joined spark a few years ago and got down to the 180's. However, each time I reverted back to old ways. When thinking back about those times where I was loosing and getting smaller I realized how I didn't like the attention I was getting. It still unnerves me today even though it happened like 5 years ago when I first lost a lot of weight. I was at my high school reunion and this guy I went to high school came up to me through out the night and told me over and over how good I looked. It gave me the creeps. Soon after I begin to gain my weight back. I blamed it on gall bladder surgery then. But after the second time I lost and gained back, I came to the conclusion that I had no idea how to be thinner. That I had no idea how to deal with compliments without getting uncomfortable.

Since being on spark I have come to learn alot about myself. I am an emotional eater, a binge eater, allow the scale to rule my life (my husband hides the scale from me), and trouble accepting me at whatever size I am. I have a feeling my journey will be for the rest of my life. Instead of looking at being on a diet for the rest of my life. I am looking at my journey being a healthy lifestyle. It will have its ups and downs but isn't that life itself.

Thanks for reading my ramblings and getting to know a bit of my quirky ways. :)

Carrie

Welcome Spiralingup! Hope to see you around the clubhouse a lot!

I hope you like all the fruits and veggies that have been planted. So far, strawberries (big, huge, juicy ones) a grapefruit and an orange tree (HoneyBell). I'm taking requests for other fruits.

Veggies: tomatoes, potatoes, peas, carrots, lettuce, brussel sprouts, corn, wheat, flax, soy, string beans, black beans, scarlet beans, lima beans, white beans, pinto beans, and garbonzo beans. Suggestions being taken.

We have some geraniums, petunias, pansies under the trees. A fountain by the corner of the clubhouse, hammocks and tables and chairs under the trees, The kitchen is fully equiped with Stainless steel everything, a huge refrigerator, an upright freezer, a six burner stove, crock pots, electric deep skillets, toaster ovens, and all the utencils you could possibly need.

We have mountains, rivers, creeks, rocks, valleys, forests, lakes(we stole all of them from Washington State), buttes (we stole those from Eastern Washington), and a covered bridge (that we heisting from New Hampshire or Vermont as soon as we find one we like.)

If there is something you find missing, please let us know - we'll be sure to add it. Oh! I almost forgot, I'm heisting a full size Olympic pool from Florida, which should be arriving to our yard soon. Watch out for the hole and the plumbing out there behind the clubhouse. After I sink the pool in that huge hole, I'll build a deck around it using lumber from our forest.

Hope you like our team and it's eccentric leaders. Okay, we are crazy, but we warned you. emoticon CW - you did warn her didn't you? emoticon Well, you're here now. Enjoy! emoticon
