I bought a juicer years ago and started a daily ritual. I am seldom sick even though I work with children who are often sick

I happened to be viewing TV, and I saw an infomercial for the Montel Williams Healthmaster. I knew that I wasn't eating the amount of fruits and vegetables that I should, so I saw green smoothies as a good way to get them in. I started doing research on the Healthmaster, and saw that a lot of people were saying that they should have gotten the Vitamix or Blendtec instead. So I got a Vitamix, and haven't looked back.

willingness to meet my 7-a-day fruit and veg recommendation. Eating 7 portions of fruit a day can end up in adding plenty of calories while you still need your protein and fat intake to take care of.
I thought I need to eat more greens while I am at work, so no time to steam or cook them. Let's blend them and drink them throughout the day!

I wonder... carrot smoothie, is it still acceptable? :)

Between watching Food,Inc., Fat,Sick & Nearly Dead, Food Matters and the Gerson Miracle, I realized I had to seriously change my dietary habits. Since changing from eating packaged and canned foods & eating more whole foods and starting my day with a smoothie, I feel like a different person in that I do not get sick so often, have more energy, sleep better at night plus I have lost 20 lbs. emoticon

I started a long time ago as I've always had problems digesting produce, so I thought it was a good idea to make refreshing drinks in my blender with veggies. Later, I found that was a very trendy thing to do and suited my fitness needs.

Moving in new directions.

I happen to like most veggies (just not onions - they hurt my stomach) and fruits. But I usually prefer to eat them as opposed to drinking them. Most veggies just are not sweet enough and fruits juices tend to have too many calories. My husband and I had been growing our own wheatgrass, but we have been having trouble this summer getting it to sprout.

When I saw a friend who had lost a lot of weight with the green smoothies, I felt that I had to give it a try. I am amazed at how the smoothie holds me until lunch and the limited number of calories that are in it. Already, my skin is smoother and my hair shinier.

I was told that I had to have Bariatric surgery or I would be dead in a few months! I don't get along with hospitals, so I decided to try nature instead of surgery! I think that TPTB are trying to tell me that I need to watch Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, because it keeps coming up over and over. emoticon

I too had watched Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. Which got me juicing but juicing just wasn't cutting it for me, I knew there was no way I could ever do a juice fast. At the time I was just desperate to have more energy, so I tried a couple of green smoothies, energy went up, and as an unexpected consequence, my weight went down!

The next thing I know I was making a payment plan with Blendtec. And while it still embarrasses me because I think 500 dollars is an obscene amount of money for a blender i have used my blender everyday and still marvel at how healthy I feel.

Bottom line, green smoothies changed my life.

Update. I got to thinking about the cost of my Blendtec and I got to thinking about the fact that as of June my husband and I lost health insurance.....this just might be the best investment I ever made.....

I first started looking into green smoothies when I was looking for ways to get more vegetables into my 3-year old's diet (and mine). There's just so much you can get into your diet this way that you wouldn't be able to (or wouldn't want to) otherwise.

The documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead got me looking into green smoothies and the health benefits and I have since just grown to love them. My middle daughter has had strep throat all weekend long, it is Wednesday and I still haven't gotten sick! I was always the very next person to get ill all thime in my household, now I usually don't get sick or I get a very mild case of whatever eveyone else has. I can't change every member of my family yet but I am working on the kids little by little!

My husband and I started green smoothies about 3 years ago and our whole family loves them. I have allergies and at that time suffered all year long. Now it is a lot better with needed improvement. I am off all allergy meds. My husband quit smoking shortly before his first green smoothie. They helped him get over the nasty withdrawals. My children are healthy and never get the normal childhood illnesses.

Actually, I saw this group as thought it was something for me. I made my first green smootie today after watching one of the you-tube videos posted and finding some chickweed in my garden. Absolutely delicious and filling. I think its going to be my standard breakfast going forward.

I started to drink green smoothies after talking to a stranger in Target who suggested I watch the movie, "Hungry for Change." We were both in the peanut butter aisle looking for natural peanut butter and having a difficult time once we read the ingredients finding a real all natural peanut butter.
After watching that movie I decided to try green smoothies. I had been drinking fruit smoothies for awhile and was introduced to them by "The Abs Diet for Women" book. I knew I did not get enough greens in my diet, so what better way than to drink them?
I fell in love with them the first time I tried one. Ever since I have been drinking them. Just recently I have changed to drinking 2 a day (one for breakfast and one for another meal.) I am not 100% raw, but I am getting pretty close LOL

Angela Liddon of www.ohsheglows.com, got me hooked on Green Monsters. I've done several combinations but I am so glad I found this team. I'd like to start replacing at least one meal a day with a green smoothie of some kind. I also love to juice and have enjoyed using my juicer for a ton of different combos. I drink my green monsters mostly for breakfast and sometimes after a Bikram practice or sometimes I juice after a hard workout day.

Love all things green folks!

I started on the advice of my acupuncturist. I have panic and anxiety problems and she said that I should have kale every day (collard greens would do in a pinch). I was already drinking smoothies in the morning so I put the kale in there. I guess that makes me a green smoothie drinker. I notice a huge difference when I don't have my kale.

I asked her why kale/greens were so important and said it was the chlorophyll. Everyone here probably already knows how important chlorophyll is but I was shocked at the health benefits.

I read something written by someone called the raw foods witch. it looked like a neat way to add some variation, especially greens to my diet. I tried one and i blogged about it and someone let me know about this team. With summer coming, i hope to have more of them.

I work in a dental office and I had a beautiful patient tell me about juicing. I had never heard about it before but the excitement she had in telling me about it caught my attention. I went home that day and researched the topic. She looked so healthy and her skin was glowing, I figured I would give it a try emoticon

I read up on green smoothies as soon as I saw this team for the first time. From what I gathered, I could see no bad side.

Soooo, I introduced them to my children 16,14,13,10 in the morning with breakfast.

I was a periodic smoothie maker so they had had smoothies before. I just added spinach.... alot of spinach.... and made enough for 4 servings in the morning time. Well, they have gotten to the point where they REALLY miss the smoothies when they don't get them in the morning. My oldest has taken over the resposibility of getting them made when I am working and that's working out fine.

Now Me...

I am now in the process of breaking a 30 day juice fast/feast. I will be a major consumer of green smoothies to transition back into solid foods. The greener the better, as I have aquired a major taste for things green.

Glad to be a member of this team....... now an active member.

Victoria Boutenko's charming talks were what got me interested in Green Smoothies. I got the app for my iPhone that her son made, I watch every thing about that family I can find. They really inspire me.

Well first I had gone 80% raw vegan while in the Marine Corps with a good portion of that being juices - starting with carrot-apple juice and moving on to more green juices. Later I started drinking smoothies and then learned of green smoothies. But it wasn't until the Boutenko's really talking about green smoothies that I started making green smoothies. Well, long story short, I fell off the wagon and tried to start again off and on through the years but I it just never lasted too long.

Over the past nearly 5 years my health has taken a drastic turn for the worse and no one could seem to figure out what was wrong with me. This past December I decided to simple eat healthier again. Even if I never lost weight it wouldn't be for lack of eating healthy or exercising. At some point some one would discover what was wrong with me and I'd already have the healthy lifestyle under my belt. While watching Dr. Oz one day he had a green smoothie on there and a light bulb went off - oh yeah, green smoothies! So I bought a bag of kale and started adding it to my smoothies. Since then I've added mustard greens and spinach. As time goes on and my husband gets used to seeing this stuff in the house all the time (I married him while I was off the wagon, but I was definitely eating healthier than he was at the time) I will add more and more greens not to mention I'll be growing a lot of our own (I'm hoping to grow all of our greens this year so that we don't have to buy any!). I do get other greens through our salads with romaine, green leaf, and red leaf lettuces plus more spinach since the kids love spinach. I'll be adding more greens to our salad mix here in the not to distant future as well.

Low and behold a week and a half ago I discovered I was either gluten-intolerant or have celiac's (won't know which for awhile until I can afford the endoscopy ... if I ever decide to really find out). That was a big booster in throwing me head long toward raw. And you know what, the cravings aren't that bad.... I just have to remember what gluten does to me and it's nothing to turn it down. I'm pretty sure the green smoothies are helping in that arena!!!! Every now and then I'll want something but it won't last long and the pull isn't that strong. I'm even finding myself eating the salad course (we eat a salad as a family before the "actual meal") and then not wanting what is cooked. I'm full and satiated. I've noticed a couple of the kids doing similarly lately.

I'm wanting to do more so I was glad to find RawOrganicVegan's page which led me here! But overall that's how I got started! :-)

I started drinking green smoothies several years ago when I read Eat Right 4 Your Type and discovered I was A blood type. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a child so I had always thought the Atkins plan (or something low carb) was right for me... but after eating that way for a long time and not being able to lose weight (on top of feeling like crap all the time), it was a relief to read the blood type book because it explained why eating cooked meat all day long wasn't working. After becoming a Vegan, I dabbled with the raw lifestyle and stayed on it pretty well. But I trained for a marathon and was running all the time, so I was eating like mad... so I wasn't perfect. And when I moved to TX a couple years ago, that is when my healthy living went South.. big time. The food they eat down here is so incredibly unhealthy (Tex Mex and Mexican, etc) so I quickly fell into my old habits. But I'm back on track now. The green smoothies help me feel nourished and energized. And while I'm not completely Vegan like most are on this group (I eat raw fish a couple times per week), I feel AMAZING when I stay raw. And when I eat something toxic, I have terrible headaches and it takes me days to recover.

I watch Dan McDermott the Life Regenerator on Youtube. He mentioned Jamba Juice, and I tried the apple and greens smoothie! HOOKED!!! It is nearly impossible for me to make them properly in my blender which is quite old, but I got a very nice food processor for Christmas which does a better job. Still, it isn't quite right.

I need a blender which works well but doesn't break my budget. I have a feeling that I may still have to break the bank to get a good one!

I love all kinds of combinations of smoothies...but am allergic to bananas and most melons. Soooo....finding recipes is very important to me.

Very happy to have found this group. I will definitely be participating often!!

And it was all going along as usual until she realized she could actually be the thing she wanted most.

I'm a newbie to this list, and a newbie to green smoothies.

I am using Kimberly Snyder's recipes... if that matters.

The reason I'm doing green smoothies - wanting to lose weight and better health. The way I started is because my Dept. at my hospital started doing smoothies. One person started it, then another - until there were four people walking around with green smoothies in the morning. My office mate & I jumped in around the end of the year and here I am.

Now that I'm in my third week the morning routine is becoming much easier. I'm in a routine to hit the store 2-3 times per week to keep the greens fresh & have room to store them. Luckily I work in a town where there is a Costco and they are beginning to carry more & more organic foods.

I do feel better on the smoothies. I can see where eventually meat may become a rare event... so I look forward to listening to all of you and learning.

A friend of ours drinks them and swears by them. I tried hers and made one at home. It was love at first slurp. Now I just need to learn more combinations and not get into a kale rut.

From my experience follow your path. If it is meant for you to do 100% raw you will do it. Never force the situation on yourself nor anyone else. When I begin mentoring others this year as a 2nd business, I am aiding them in transforming their lives from where they are at and gradually changing to a healthier program based on THEIR set of standards

Most of us start this journey coming out the door of our latest McDeath's or worse. We know instinctively that what we just ate isn't good for us. We just need to learn it is harming us and the world and murdering countless animals and destroying the planet.

I got on my soap box again, didn't I? Sorry LOL

I've considered it. Most of what I eat is raw with the exception of beans, some of my lentils (I sprout on occasion and cook some) and a few veggies and the occasional soup. Sometimes I get really hungry for things that are hot so I think going raw I'd wouldn't be as happy.

ETL is a good program for non-raw. Have you thought about going raw vegan? Just a thought.

I doctor recommended the Eat To Live (ETL) program from Dr. Fuhrman when i went on a general visit back in April. I've been having lots of trouble losing weight. I then got on the ETL team. The program recommends 2 pounds of veggies a day, mostly from leafy greens. It is easier to blend it than chew it. I can get a good percent of my daily greens in first thing in then AM, and I can have the really bitter ones and not be bothered (i really don't like bitter tastes).

I still have a hard time losing weight, but at least with this I feel like I have more of a chance.

Sounds like a smart coach! Most start out with a little bit of greens and add to it, like you did.

Congrats! And welcome to the team.

2010 I had a holistic health coach that recommended them as a way to increase my leafy green intake & improve enzymes in digestion. At first I thought they were disgusting. So she didn't push the issue, but suggested that I try only 1 or 2 spinach leaves at first. With each smoothie, try another additional leaf in the mix. It worked! Now I take 2 handfuls in my blender with blueberries, banana, spirulina, kelp, raw cacao and ice. Love 'em!

I saw some friends here on SP that are raw foodies and it all came about from that. I have been hooked ever since. It was just something that evolved from that.
I know having them daily sure has made a huge change in my health. Every time I drink them I know I am drinking a glass full of health!
They also help me with cravings and digestion.

Walk through your journey with a loving open heart and as well mind. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

Hooray! I cannot believe the difference it is making in my own body. Honestly, it was THE key to my success as a vegan. I swear by it.

Thanks for sharing.

I've been reading about it online and in lots of books. The only reason I haven't been drinking too much is the texture well taste too (and laziness). There are alot of raw books and smoothie books that I have checked out from the library and the Eat to Live book is another book I've been reading.

but you have convinced me to drink so I have been drinking some every day for a couple of weeks. You said its the one thing that you have been missing in the vegan diet and it makes alot of sense.

It could have been seeing one of the many Youtube videos by Victoria Boutenko, or Robyn Openshaw. Maybe you have read one of their books and have been inspired by their stories of healing and vibrant health.

Maybe you have suffered from long-term health issues. Perhaps you got sick and tired of being sick and tired!

Whatever the reason we are glad you are part of our team.

Please share with us how you were motivated to start drinking this glorious green drink.
