HI Vicki.

Welcome! And thank you for wanting to lead the team. I haven't had time to spark in several months - and that probably won't change until after August. So, I really appreciate you stepping up to the plate.

Cheers,
Heidi

I'm Vicki and I live in Florida.
I'm working towards making the healthiest choices I can when it comes to taking care of myself.
I want to make exercise a top priority as I have a couple of health issues that exercise would improve. Also it would definately give me more energy.
I am basically trying to keep all my nutritional numbers within a set goal I think will work for me. It's not strictly any one specific program. If I had to push it, I'd be more inclined to say it's a lower calorie plan.
I'm working to lose about 65 lbs but have no set time to lose it in. I'd love to lose it over the next couple of years, but I tend to be a very slow loser. So I'll take it one pound at a time.

Welcome Joanie!

So happy to have you here. The beauty of the 10 minutes extra idea is that it can by 10 minutes extra from a couch potato standpoint (or couch pudding - I love it!), or it can be 10 minutes on top of whatever you are already doing. The idea is to increase activity just a little from wherever you are on your journey to fitness.

I'm glad you've found spark and that you are getting involved! That is part of the key for many people - me included. I love all my sparkfriends!

So, even though the focus of this team is just 10 minutes of activity, we are here to support each other and encourage each other in our journey to health! I wish you the best in your commitment to a new, healthy you! I look forward to reading your blogs!

Cheers,
Heidi

Hi, Joanie! And welcome to the 10 extra team! Spark is a great place and people ARE genuinely friendly and helpful! I'm so glad you like it here. And I hope you enjoy the extra activity. There's one other team you might want to take a look at as you progress on your journey. It's called Quick Fire Challenge team and the concept is to do a specified exercise, for example squats, in sets of 15 or so, broken up over several times during your day. The theory is to periodically through your day get your heart rate up just a little, raising your metabolism so it burns more calories. I haven't really explained it well here, but check it out!

Hi, I'm Joanie!
Nice to meet you all! I'm new to Spark but have struggled with weight issues all my life. I was at a point in my life where I was sick of dieting, sick of obsessively counting points and calories and eating fake food etc., etc., but knew that just trying to casually "watch what I ate" wouldn't get or keep me at a healthy weight. Then I found Spark (oddly enough, via a post on icanhascheezburger.com, the funny cats website) and I feel like this is what I was looking for without knowing it!

I love how everyone here is so genuinely welcoming and helpful here; it has inspired me to "become involved" -- something I'd always avoided in the past...I've even started blogging on my SparkPage, and have even gotten some really positive comments! This is huge for me, because it took a lot to post those blogs! I feel like being active on the site is a big missing piece of the puzzle for me. I've suspected that for a long time, but I've never felt safe to do it!

I know that fitness is another huge, sweaty part of the puzzle too; I've had years where I was a regular at the gym, other years where I was really active in other respects, and years -- like the past couple -- where I was not just a couch potato, I was a couch pudding!!! I KNOW how incredibly important exercise is (not just for weight loss but for ultimate health), and am committed to doing it. I'm starting slowly because I don't want to overdo it or psych myself out and quit, so I thought I'd join this team!

I'm already doing more than 10 minutes per day, but I want to add to my fitness gradually, so I'll share with you guys as I progress!

Cheers and see you here!

Hi, Sharon! I've known Heidi a long time too - as a fellow (former) singer, we share our love of music and just seemed to hit it off right off the bat too!

"Hi, my name is......"

.....Sharon! I've been a Spark Person for about 2.5 years, and sadly I'm not much further along in my journey than when I started. I originally lost 18 pounds and kept it off for quite a while....but then as often happens, stuff came up, and I lost my way a bit. I've been active on Spark almost every day ever since joining and have learned so much, but I just don't always put it into practice. An extra 10 minutes of exercise per day is a great idea!

Heidi was one of my very first Spark Buddies and continues to be one of my very favorites. I don't really know how we found each other, because to my knowledge we've never been on a team together - so this should be great fun!

Hi, Heidi! You know me, but this is for others as they follow!

I'm Laurie. I've been Sparking a little over 2 years now and am poised on the edge of hitting 20 pounds lost. I have a VERY slow metabolism, and until about three months ago I had a 40-hour-a-week sit-on-my-fanny job. Now I'm working at our local Home Depot store and have greatly increased my daily steps. Unfortunately, the change in scheduling has also greatly disrupted my eating and tracking routines, as well as any other (10 minutes extra) type of activity I had been working on. I think this team will help me to be more accountable for the extra we need to do to make any progress on this journey.

Thanks for setting it up, Heidi!

Laurie

Hi! My name is Heidi.

I get into a rut with fitness and get comfortable with what I've been doing. I find that I don't challenge myself. I spend an awful lot of time on my butt (working on stuff online, or just sparking and doing facebook, lol), and sometimes lack the motivation to get up and move.

I generally get about 50 minutes of walking per day - walking 25 minutes to and from the place where I practice my singing. There are days when I get to ski or do something else fun, but I needed to push myself a little on the majority of the days when I don't have something fun like skiing to do. So, I challenged myself to add 10 minutes per day to my general routine.

I hope that others will be interested in joining me in 10 extra minutes a day! I don't have a lot of time to be involved in a group that has a lot of challenges, so this will be a simple one... 10 minutes of something active per day - and be supportive of teammates when you can!

Good luck to everyone!!!

Cheers,
Heidi
